I took my mum here today for lunch as the pub is only a 5 minute walk from the town centre and the menu looked like the sort of food that she would enjoy. We both ordered fish and chips (pretty standard, I know)! The food arrived promptly and was well presented. The fish and chips were served with mushy peas, tartar sauce, and curry sauce. The fish tasted fresh and not overcooked. The chips were lovely, and the bar staff Charlotte and Amber were brilliant. Will definitely be visiting again. #hiddengem

Charlotte is a gem! Great range of beer, chicken wings and fries were spot on, and a bit of sunshine in the garden whilst playing Jenga was cracking for a Monday lunch. Cheers!

We love The Verulam! Great selection of drinks, tasty food and a lovely beer garden. Charlotte, the manager, is an amazing ball of energy and has, along with her team, created a wonderfully welcoming atmosphere. Kudos for the great tunes as well!

Charlotte and her team are amazing - Louise deserves special mention - always remember my drink and as a celiac there are great gluten free options - siren and jubel on tap. Love the steaks too. Come here for a great atmosphere.

What a cracking little pub in the back streets of Snalbans! Great bar design feels like a proper old pub that has survived into the modern era! Has a wide range of beers check around the corner for the Keg wall. Excellent lighting plus real candles burning. I had a fantastic fish and chips brilliant chips and small but excellent mushy peas and curry sauce, and a very decent ( but exxie ££ ) Guinness. Bar and restaurant staff very warm and friendly. They have a Spotify playlist “The Verulam” which hit the sweet spot for me 70/80/90’s. Highly recommended and will go again.

Food is fine, just average. Lovely courtyard garden and nice people behind the bar.

Lovely pub and friendly welcoming staff however one of the worst roast dinner's I've had. The food came out very quickly and was cold. Meat was okay however the best part of a roast (the potatoes) were not crispy nor fluffy, they were tough and dry. Wouldn't eat again

Enjoyed a tapas and wine evening with a friend, also visited with family for Sunday lunch. Friendly and welcoming, yummy food, generous portions, good value comfortable and calm atmosphere.

We have visited this pub in its various forms over the years and were pleased to see that it has been reinventing by its present owners to a good standard. It offers an excellent choice of beers and ciders with an impressive wine list all reasonably priced. The menu is varied with some very tasty starters and the staff were friendly and welcoming. We would definitely recommend and return.

There is nothing more you would need. Excellent food, great variety of beer to choose from and brilliant staff that really makes a difference!

Went for a Christmas meal as a large group. It was a raucous atmosphere due to the carol singing event that was going on, but this added to the fun. The staff were friendly and efficient, and served us well even though we were a large group and the rest of the pub was so busy!

Very warm welcome by all the staff. Food was a little disappointing as some items were substituted and not mentioned beforehand. Also, our food was quite salty. Lovely quaint pub situated in the lovely St Albans and staff were so polite and courteous.

Fabulous service, we all had a wonderful time

Only went here for a drink, but lovely little pub. The garden was very well decorated, it felt warm and homey, perfect for a drink in the sunshine. The staff were friendly and polite, and they have a wide selection of beers, ciders, ales and soft drinks. I would definitely come back again to try the food as the menu looked delicious. Plus they had a lovely cider which I haven't seen before but may be a little sweet for some.

Really nice range of cask ales and then found the “beer wall” with another 20 odd beers on tap 😋😋😋 Friendly, welcoming staff and a smart outdoor area - I decided to try it out as I remember Charlotte from The White Horse, Welwyn is now running The Veralum since reopening in December.

Had a lovely meal here on a Friday night (April 2023), lovely atmosphere, lovely decor and very friendly landlady. Big selection of IPAs and lagers. Would highly recommend. And our dog was made to feel very welcome!

Clever Madge spotted this pub down a side street. A great Freehouse packed on Good Friday evening....inside and out. Amazed to find Harvey's Sussex Best..the beer I cut my teeth on. Just as the young underage drinker remembers. Absolutely Fabulous. St Albans is a great pub destination...this was not even on my list..and to give The Coup de Grace...there was an empty "reserved table"..Madge asked...free for next hour.( Always worth asking.). Yeah..visit this pub.

This pub is great! The new owner Charlotte is so nice and bubbly and couldn’t do enough. The staff are all lovely. The pub has a great vibe. The only reason I didnt give it 5 stars was the food while decent wasn’t amazing, but it was Mother’s Day and very busy. I will 100% go back.

Popped in on spec and they managed to get 4 of us in for Sunday lunch just before 1pm. Great food, excellent service, really impressed our friends visiting from Czechia and the Netherlands who were eager for a British roast dinner before they left. We needed to be away promptly and they needed the table for a booking at 2pm, so we were all happy. I had meant to visit pre-refurbishment, but never had the time, so was delighted by the opportunity and it did not disappoint.

The service is friendly and the food was excellent value.

A fantastic pub a short walk off the busy high street of St Albans. Was greeted by friendly staff who were happy to help with anything we needed. The beer selection was superb, both keg and cask, and the food we ordered was also great. Definitely one of my favourite pubs in town.

Popped in for a drink for the first time since reopening on Sunday (15th Jan) with my partner and we both loved it so I returned today with my mum and grandma for some food at lunchtime. The man working was lovely and super friendly and welcome as soon as we arrived, an amazing selection of wine, craft beer/lagers and real ale on offer and we also had some food which was incredible! I went for the sausage and mash but my family’s choices of the vegan burger and pie and mash looked equally as tasty, they also have lighter lunch options of sandwiches, jacket potatoes, etc as well as their main meals menu. Will definitely be coming here regularly as it has all the elements of a great local pub! ❤️

Sunday lunch was well above the quality and quantity of nearby competitors. The refurbishment looks good with a great atmosphere. Staff and service are well trained and costs are very fair. 9/10.

Small yet cosy pub with welcoming people. Have Budvar on tap(at the time of writing) which is a rare find. Didn’t have a chance to try food but I bet that’d be good too.

The revamped interior with a Victorian St Albans vibe is great. There is a wide range of beers on tap, including a good gluten-free one. The manager and bar team are friendly, and the pub has a welcoming atmosphere.

Celebrated my 30th birthday in the pub's garden area and Vangjel and his staff couldn't have been more attentive and helpful throughout the evening. They put on a tasty bbq buffet at a very reasonable price, the seating area was well covered for any unexpected downpours, and the team were happy to help with any request we had. Highly recommend - a top local!

Went there yesterday. 6 beers on tab, of which 5 weren't available. Only dishwater Foster's was left . I also expected more in regards to the food served
