Ordered a latte and a toasted tea cake and had to ask the lady who was going to make the coffee to remove or replace her plastic gloves as she had been stroking a dog and feeding it treats in front of the food counter. Went and sat outside and the younger girl brought out my tea cake after I had finished eating I then had to go back inside to ask how long it would be before I got my coffee . I was told there was two drinks in front of me and it would be out soon …… would hate to see how long you would have to wait if it was busy

Decent coffee and loo out the back which is always useful for us cyclists! Tables and bike racks out front and comfy seating inside. Stale cake today which we eat cos we were hungry, but clearly leftovers from the weekend that shouldn’t have been served…… Lindy - it was lemon cake, no complaint needed!

My friends planned a surprise babyshower here recently and the venue did not disappointed. It was beautiful and the staff were just wondering. Nice little coffee stop. Staff very friendly and good coffee but given 3 stars due to oat milk being an extra 50p, even in a small flat white. Given the environmental impact of whole milk and relative price of oat milk I find this very expensive.

Why is it when you take probably very normal nice people and put them in Lycra and call them “cyclists”, do they become obnoxious? We have a very nice coffee shop in our village which is a meeting place for the Lycra set. They turn up from surrounding cities and villages on their bicycles and take over our village, closing roads and even the village common so that they can control the village for their cycling activities. It’s a shame as the coffee shop is really nice. I would love to go here to read a paper and have a coffee with people who cared about my village rather than just used it! Shame on the local council! They should deal with it!

The Hub is a wonderful little place, little being the salient word here, for a pit stop for a coffee and some cake. Often full of cyclists, as it's linked with a cycle shop further up the high street, and caters primarily for that clientele, they always have a lovely selection of home-made cakes and delicious coffee. The staff are wonderful and welcoming even if you're not a cyclist. On a sunny day they have a couple of tables and chairs outside and cyclists can often be spotted taking a break there. Its a perfect use of a small space and a friendly "HuB" to take a break, take the weight off and briefly relax. Highly recommended.

The hub was originally set up by the proprietors for cyclists and you will find lots of cyclist memorabilia in the comfortable seating area. However, The Hub is open to all who wish to pop in for a coffee and cake, and a get-together. Here you will find warm and friendly staff who will make you feel very welcome. Coffee really is premium here, and the best taste for miles around. There is always the finest selection of cakes available to enjoy with your coffee. Dogs and children are welcome and you will often find a mixture of cyclists, walkers, local people and many visitors from outside the area. Because it is so popular, it can be busy at times, but always has a lovely atmosphere and feel to it, as everyone is so friendly! This really is a little Gem and you won’t find anything to rival it! I went to this coffee shop with my baby and a friend. I appreciate that it is very small and cycling themed but it wasn’t very busy and there was enough space for the buggy. Unfortunately I managed to knock over and break a mug with my coat. Obviously I was really apologetic but the cafe staff made me feel really awkward and uncomfortable. Plus one of the other people in the cafe made the comment that ‘some people these days just want to take their baby everywhere’. I left as soon as possible due to the horrible atmosphere and will not be going back. Found the experience really upsetting.

As fast food chains dominate the high streets and folk get hoodwinked into thinking that buying a bucket of coffee and a plastic croissant is part of our heritage, then it is comforting to note that there are still some places out there which hold on to what a café should actually be. This delightful tiny coffee shop was recommended to us when we were walking the river Ver circular walk. It's in REdbourn towards the bottom end of the High Street. It is very tiny and the seating is cramped but well worth a visit. It's full of cycle memorabilia and all the customers seemed to be either cyclists or walkers. Lovely local cafe, which I use quite regularly but I have one gripe. Please come to our table to take orders. It makes no sense for the customer to block the room at the narrowest part to order their coffee/tea. The drinks are brought to the table so why not do complete waitress service. We sat for 10-15 minutes waiting to order this morning. We called down to the two staff members asking if we needed to walk over (it seems to be different every time I go) and they said yes. Why? It wasn't busy. Could one of them not come to us? It's not Starbucks. Other than that, lovely drinks and cakes, and dog friendly. I shall return but please rethink your ordering process - it's too tiny a place for a queue to fit into.

Always have enjoyed my visits to the hub normally after a cycle ride in the Chilterns. It's always a very welcome site and they are a fine coffee and a pot of tea. When they have it in stock also make up a cracking cheese toast i.e. made from the local Mill bakery. Interesting to read a few reviews recently criticising the service. It can be mixed depending on who is on. The younger staff are always cheery and polite. One or two of he "older" team could smile a bit more. There are occasions I feel I am treading in somebody's front room and I should lifer my feet to allow them to hoover under me.

They have all press coffee which is my fav. They serve it hot and it is the way coffee should be, a total treat. The carrot cake is always amazing and when you taste it you know instantly that you will never cook one as good. I saw a previous reviewer expecting some loud egregious greeting. It's not that sort of place. It has a country atmosphere with that special form of quiet hushed and unhurried chatter you expect from Hertfordshire. If they did a toasty cheese sandwich they would have got the five. Sometimes especially in winter I'd love something savoury with the coffee. But likely a toasty cheese maker will accrue large fees from the local council so I understand.

As my Mum, Stepdad and little brother are visiting from up north this weekend we decided to pop to the Red Cow yesterday after they arrived at my house.I honestly wish we hadn’t bothered. We had three children in total with us. One of which is autistic and the other deaf so both can at times be loud but they weren’t overly noisy at all yesterday. Some customers were glaring at us anytime the children spoke and another customer kept tutting anytime a dog barked or our children made a noise. Customers were sprawled out across the bar without moving aside to let my partner order. One staff member with black hair came over to our table snatched the cutlery off and remarked “this table is reserved hence why the cutlery is out”. There was no reserved sign and a lot of pubs/restaurants have cutlery laid out on tables anyway. We just sat there because the children gravitated to it and didn’t think that deeply into it. My son was getting fed up and we weren’t happy with the atmosphere so we packed up to leave. My son who is 2 was crying in his buggy on the way out of the door. The same staff member who snatched the cutlery off our table was standing by the door, my Mum said thank you to her and the staff member rolled her eyes at my son who was crying. I passed her at the door after my mum and I too said thank you, only to be ignored by her. I’m sorry but is this a pub or a library? We’re local and although we don’t visit the pub that often, when we have been there in the past the team have been amazing. Particularly the manager Zoe, who I believe is currently on leave-AND IT SHOWS!! Zoe is amazing with kids and has always been really helpful and kind to our children, also to my little brother when he is down to visit. What a genius way to make people feel so uncomfortable and awkward that they want to leave and not spend more money. It’s an actual joke. Get some manners!

I see a huffy owner response to a previous review that mentions poor service/attitude but it’s a pretty accurate reflection on how this place operates. The service is abysmal with rude staff who treat paying customers like an inconvenience. Yes yes I’m sure it’s all very nice with your regulars, etc but really you ought to treat all of your customers well. Overall an average, miserable little cafe.
