Saracens Head in East Hertfordshire

Great food service and people. Atmosphere by the river is relaxing.

Usually The Saracens Head is a 5 out of 5 but on this day it was well below it's normal standards. Had drinks, no problem, ordered food and here's when the problems arose, 2 pizzas and halloumi fries. Waited 30 mins for first pizza and 45 mins for second by which time my partner had eaten their's. Also 6 halloumi fries for £6.75, surely should be more fries for that cost.

Nice cosy place with a simple menu. The food was really good and very well priced.

Well we sat outside watching the river flow past with Geese, Swans, ect, Nice atmosphere, I ordered the Vegetarian nacho dish,with Tortillas, and I think the menu should have said they deep fried the Tortillas , As they were horrible, and spoilt the complete meal, I was there with my daughter, and granddaughter, Who had paid for the meal, I didn't say anything to her, as it would be rude, So please state the Tortillas are deep fried and not just normal, The place is nice, friendly staff, But it ruined my experience, as it was my first visit.

Brilliant lunch, pizza was delicious, nice staff and great place to sit and relax while watching rhe world go by.

The food was really nice and came out quickly even though it was busy. You can order on the app which I like. The music was a little loud for me but maybe that's cos I'm old 🤔

Caomi went above and beyond last night helping me through the wine selection in the Cellar bar last night. She was really helpful and recommended a lovely Sauvignon blanc

Had great service from Caomi last weekend, I’m not a big beer drinker but she recommended I try Asahi and it’s great! 5 stars to her.

We had nice halloumi wraps for lunch. However the coffees were disappointing - no decaf and no alternative milks only cows milk. Coffee also overpriced.

Great place to go for a drink on the weekend or a quiet drink by the river. Lively on a Friday and Saturday night with good music.

Bit hit and miss with the food, but service is good. It has a nice vibe and a good quiz once a week

We had a 21st party at the Cellar Bar recently. Excellent, cool downstairs bar to have a party . We had a dj , food was excellent as were all staff. Would definitely hold a party here again and thoroughly recommend.

I regularly attend the Always Bee You club in the cellar bar where we have a great time. The food is nice and the staff who look after us are lovely.

Oh dear. Our first visit to Saracens and the last. Here's why .... 45 minute wait for only 3 small plates : Nachos, Korean Popcorn Chicken & Cod gougons. Had to chase our order. Food arrived poorly presented. Food was tepid/ cold. Popcorn chicken was overcooked, texture was like bullets. Also missed off sesame seeds + coriander. We checked, no coriander available. No Korean sauce on Popcorn chicken, standard chilli sauce instead. Nachos dolloped on the small plate, plastered in sauces. Small portions. Very expensive for what you get. Manager at bar taking orders: Frosty/ aloof. Positives : Cod gougons lovely. Waitress lovely, polite + friendly. Lovely setting alongside river. Definitely WON'T be back.

The best spot on the river lea for a drink in the sunshine on the patio. Manager and staff very welcoming. Highly recommend the Rivertown Pilsner.

first time visitor, weekday evening. Bar server was pleasant, drinks served efficiently. The interior would benefit from a good deep clean.

The food was all decent, pretty much exactly what you would expect from a McMullens pub. I was there on a nice sunny day and the outdoor seating was very nice next to the river. My only minor complaints were that app to order from your table wasn't working at this location, and the food portion sizes were a bit variable (some dishes looked a bit meager compared to others). I would probably come back here again if I'm passing through Ware.

Haven't been in for a while and it's looking decidedly shabby these days. Staff were very quick considering it was a festival day with a boat parade and a lot of people about

The atmosphere was good the bar staff were friendly but I dont like it when bar staff free pour drinks. I asked for two double vodkas and they poured the spirit for less than a second it was a quick flick of the wrist and I felt ripped off, would probably stay away in future. Shame as the place has a great location. Maybe that's the way the bar staff are taught but personally for me its a no no.

Great place for a beer in the sun along the river, not the greatest beer selection, asahi is a welcome addition, but red stripe should be banned from any bar imo!. The food here is very good, really tasty burgers and loaded fries and freshly done pizzas, can’t go wrong

Fancied a nice relaxed summer evening meal by the river, but didn't get one! We reserved a table, but it was inside as the riverside ones are only on a first come basis. Ordered our food and drinks at the bar, starters and mains. We wanted pizza but there was an issue with the oven (I assume) so made alternative choices. Took a while for our shared loaded nachos to arrive and burnt! Our main meals arrived straight away too which was odd. Portion sizes weren't massive and it looked like my fish & chips came straight from Iceland's freezer, definitely not hand-battered and the chips were cold and again churned out of a frozen bag of French fries. Also although I usually enjoy a live band, the guys playing were so loud especially with the drums and cymbals that we couldn't even talk. All this said, the pub was quite busy, we just didn't hang around after eating. P.S the home made the Sour Cream Coleslaw was actually very nice!

Great pub, lovely staff, food is so so, fine not mind blowing, but pleasant atmos and everyone seemed OK with the kids, decent selection of beer, a d a lovely Malborough sauvignon blanc on the wine list, had a grand time.

We had our Christmas do here on, great atmosphere, staff were happy, smiley and attended to everything we needed. Food came out hot and on time. Would definitely go back. Well done guys have a lovely xmas

Service was terrible. Staff didn’t even acknowledge us when we arrived even though pub was empty. No atmosphere, music was not playing. Food was average and took ages to come out. Staff seemed to not have any enthusiasm to be there. Shame as use to be lovely to go to

very vice pub situated next to a beautiful river full of swans, very friendly staffs, ware train station available for public within 5 minutes walking. Best place for chilling

The staff were amazing and the food was really nice but the layout of the pub could do with some rethinking. The music was too loud, seating was uncomfortable and some of the lights shine right in your face.

I loved this place used it a lot, after this afternoon's food and the service I won't be back terrible you can defiantly tell the management has changed. The only exception was a young lad glasses blond hair top class shame your colleagues and the food don't match up 🥲

Young people pub, outside and inside seating area.steady stream of customers quickly served. No real ale but a nice pint of Guinness and a number of lagers.

I was impressed by how well vegans are catered for here. They have a burger which is really awesome and cluckless straps which are unnervingly convincing. All wine and beer is clearly labelled if vegan on menu. Happy customer

Poor service, a girl whose name it's Ema (work in the bar) refused to served me and my friends at the table. In the main time one of your staff served some other customers to the table. You should not treat some customers different than other.

Mid afternoon coffee ☕ with a shot of something warming. Enjoyable (edit) lunchtime pint with a couple or sharing platters. Not sure how many people are meant to share a platter, but the two platters for two of us ,wa more than enough

Nice bar. Slightly younger croud but good food and great selection of beers on tap. Pizzas are good value. Quiz night was good but everyone involved was cheating badly.
