A fall from grace I’m utterly disappointed. I’ve been coming here for years, and their nachos were always amazing and is one of the main reason mr and my family keep coming back—until today. Without warning, they’ve gone and changed them to some dreadful gluten-free version which are significantly inferior. Gone is the deliciousness we once knew, replaced with frankly, rubbish. I also got the fish and chips. I kid you not, I’ve seen children’s meals with bigger portions. A handful of chips and a small piece of fish—are we rationing now? For what they charge, I expected an actual meal, which is a shame as they have always been big on portions and good value for money but for nearly £16, I expected more. (See attached photo) - it looks like someone ate them before they reached the table. Equally, the burgers that range upwards of £16 are also a measly portion of- sorry to say but nags head sort it out, chips aren’t expensive and you should be serving more. Such a shame as just before all the food arrived, the table was discussing how nags head have been constantly amazing over the past 20 years or me living here. I think this feedback in vital for them to improve as others in my position would also be equally disappointed. Again, I would never normally put a bad review especially to nags head but this needs to be addressed- never seen a better example of shrinkflation - again, very disappointed and hardly full for £35, wow. p.s. BRING BACK BANGERS AND MASH

Always good food and good service.

This was the best Sunday roast I have ever experienced everything was spot on the beef the potatoes the lot and the chocolate brownie was delicious it was hot and gooey and it was served in a warm pan i also love the art deco design as well I highly recommend it's a shame it only allows you to give five stars I would give it more if I could

I recently visited the Nags Head in Bishop’s Stortford and had a wonderful experience. The pub has a charming Art Deco design and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The staff were friendly and attentive. The highlight of my visit was the great sirloin steak – perfectly cooked and delicious. The menu offers a good selection of British pub classics, and the locally brewed beers were a nice touch. Overall, the Nags Head is a fantastic choice for tasty food, excellent service, and a cozy ambiance.

Art Deco outside, lovely and cosy inside with booths, big tables for groups where needed, open fires, well stocked bar. Food was top notch (had the steak) and better than expected, service really great with no wait at all. Haven’t visited for a few years, most places are keen to race around and take very little notice of customers, not here. Credit to the staff as can’t be easy running pubs these days. Will be back!

We have been here several times for meals with the family. Always had good food. They specialise in 1/4 and half chickens with fries.

The new bbq sauce they serve is horrible, bring back the old one. Otherwise food was good

The food is exactly what it says on the menu. Tasty, good portion sizes and value for money. The staff this evening could not have been more helpful and changed my drink without question when I felt it tasted strange! Quick and efficient service too.

Just had a lovely New Year's Eve meal at The Nags Head. The food was lovely and the staff were all very friendly.

It was first time when we go to Nags Head ... it is a really lovely pub with good welcome staff.. in special Iva who serve us ... the food it was amazing ..we have like a starter home made Cheese Nachos what I thing are best in the town .. and like mains fish and chips, burgers what they use outstanding for the price we pay ... I really recommend this pub and to don't forget the cookie dought is amazing ...

A brilliant choice for Christmas lunch. Well done chef. The meal was excellent and the waiter attentive but not intrusive. I have tried a number of restaurants and pubs in and around Stortford for Christmas meals in the past but the Nags Head tops the list for atmosphere, friendly service, value and delicious food. Thank you to the Nags Head for making our Christmas celebrations so enjoyable

Very disapointed, No chicken dishes available at all. Garden peas hard, and mushy peas cold. The so called skin on fries chips were not and were similar to Mcdonald ones. The music was so loud we were shouting at each other. We asked twice for it to be turned down, but were told that if the management came in, they would be in trouble. We have met up at this pub for many years and it has always been good. We can only assume that it has now been taken over. We shall not return.

Above average pub grub. Nice inside, best thing is the garden, visit in the summer and it's lovely out the back.

Amazing food and hospitality. They were welcoming, friendly and helpful. We have pin dropped on map for for future visits, worth driving past the services for.

Great Xmas meal for 27 people from the local stroke group. Fantastic food and customer service. The staff were excellent, they couldn’t do enough for us! Highly recommended 🙂

I met three old friends here for lunch on Wednesday 27 November 2024. What a lovely find! Really tasty food ( I ordered the signature salad with halloumi, followed by apple and rhubarb crumble with custard and ice cream). Very friendly, professional service. A nice atmosphere with music playing in the background. Surprisingly busy for a mid-week in November but this only added to the atmosphere. Plenty of parking too. I would definitely recommend.

Very good typical British cuisine. We stumbled upon it by chance and had a great time. We met Fabrizio with whom we were able to chat in Italian and he told us about the place. We will be back!

Always lovely in here. Great atmosphere, yummy comfort food, and staff always friendly. We had katsu curry. Desserts looked lush but we were trying to be good!

Had cooked breakfast whilst waiting for cat service mot in toyota centre nearby. Nags head open from 10.00hrs so ideal place for this. Service and staff exceptional !! Only downside for me, no alternate for pepper intolrance with their only choice of sausage - being cumberland, notoriously peppery blend. Even vegie sausage has pepper. Love this pub. Highly recommended. They have their own car park also.

The Sunday roast was quite average. The service was quick, and our food arrived in decent portions. We ordered two chicken Sunday roasts, but I was disappointed with the vegetables. The potatoes were hard instead of crispy, and the Yorkshire pudding had a texture just like frozen products. While the chicken portion was generous, it was unfortunately overcooked. I wouldn't recommend it here for Sunday roasts, but their burgers and wings instead.

Food is fine and promptly served. Incredibly noisy on a Sunday evening to the point where we gave up trying to talk. Such a shame. Awful music on and everyone shouting over it.

Sadly the fish pie was served cold, quickly corrected but really shouldn’t have happened. I’d have thought it’s pretty essential to have a food thermometer in the kitchen when serving pre prepared meals.

Visit most Sundays always friendly and helpful just wish there was more choice of hot desserts during the winter months

Love it at the nags head the staff are absolutely wonderful especially joy and angie and gina they are all wonderful people and staff and the food is out of this world brilliant.

Avoid Hunters Chicken, coleslaw and salad - I am the 4th person to get food poisoning from eating this dish. I dread to think what their sanitation is. Should be inspected.

I came here with my family on a Sunday night, straight from Stansted Airport, and we had an excellent experience. The staff were attentive and courteous, and the food was very good. The kids had burgers (impressively large) and the adults had steak & ale pie. The highlight of the food, however, was the sharing plate of houmous, which was delicious and beautifully presented.

Atmosphere is always great when I'm I'm here with family food is always good, Staff go above and beyond, Just had my engagement party recently and the staff were really accondating I would highly recommend!

Had Sunday roast it was awful, have been there many times and have always been happy with our food but this time we were very disappointed, the roast potatoes were extremely hard on the outside and difficult to cut and the Yorkshire puddings were more like American pancakes never again.

Nice food and nice place to go,had scampi and chips few days ago , it was nice ,nice apple juice friendly staff , attentive.

Good value for money, was great to actually sit outside and enjoy the sunshine with a pint. The katsu curry with chicken is must try!!

Great place for a family meal. Food isn’t posh, but plenty of variety, nicely done, tasty and well priced. Service deserves a particular mention as it’s attentive and knowledgeable and caring - they are NOT your usual job centre rejects. They coped faultlessly with my mother in laws endless list of customisations and stipulations without skipping a beat (not easy). It is “chain pub nosh” but at the very top end of the genre - really good hot crisp chips, nice grills and salad garnishes. My only slight down side is that one side (well away from the dining rooms) is a very loud and blokey“ sports bar” which I have to traverse to use the toilets - and carpark is busy - first world problems. Overall love this place for good family dinners in comfortable dining room - and Wowsa - the ice cream sundaes are to die for (maybe via cardiovascular disease - but it’s a risk I’m happy to take - they are huge and delicious)

We visited for a lunch , as we were passing . We were most impressed with the menu choice , the friendliness of the staff and the general ambiance of the place . We both ordered “loaded chips” which were coated in , cheese , barbecue sauce and shredded chicken . Most excellent , I also had Chicken Wings coated in a Korean sauce . The dishes were excellent and the portions generous

Went in for breakfast. Food was over pric3d for what is was. Bacon was almost burnt and too crispy. Service was ok we was offered a free round of drinks due to the food being less than expected.

Staff friendly & welcoming in particular our waitress Chelsey who was very attentive. Great service thank you, we’ll be back!

Only ever been there for food before, this time just went to the bar for a drink, it was okay but nothing special, seemed a bit of a regulars pub and a tad cliquey.

Was recommended by the hotel we were staying in. From the outside, I'm not sure what to expect, but from the moment we stepped inside, it was really good. Nice food great staff

Lovely Art Deco building, which was surprising, given the name of the pub. Very handy for anyone travelling to Stansted airport, and staying over nearby. Food was excellent and service was good. Would definitely go back if we’re in the area again.

A nice pub with a large beer garden; it seems there's more space outside than inside. The prices are reasonable, and the service is friendly. There's nothing particularly special about it. I can't comment on the food as I've never eaten here, unfortunately.

Went here today for a celebratory meal, food was lovely and well presented, drinks were good and the coffee was lovely. Service was very efficient and we were served by a very cheery member of staff and all at a reasonable price. There was a good selection of food on the menu. Overall we were very impressed.

We stopped for a quick lunch. Restaurants look great, and staff are friendly. But my signature wings were not as fresh cook as I expected. Some are very dry and all not hot. But sandwich is nice 👍

I found this pub in the Art Deco guide to the UK. I pre-booked us in on line, which was very easy. We received a warm welcome and were seated swiftly. The waitresses were all very helpful and prompt. There was a slight miss understanding when we asked do they do a side of garlic bread for the main meal. We had just had our starters and they bring out garlic bread as a 2nd starter for us. Never mind, we ate that and then our lunch came. All the food was nice, personal opinion I thought the house slaw could do with a bit more flavour, I had to add salt and pepper, but each to their own taste. We will come back again as the décor is in keeping with the deco theme, some areas look a bit untidy and could do with a paint, but try and do that with a fully working pub.

Four of us arrived at 11.45 16/5 for a quiet lunch. Two of us have severe hearing loss so I requested a quiet table in the conservatory as the entire conservatory was empty. The waitress, however,took us to a table next to the entrance to the kitchens saying that this was laid out and would be ok. I requested that the nearby speaker be switched off but the waitress said this wasn’t possible. I asked her to check and she returned saying they might be able to turn it down but it couldn’t be turned off. ( it wasn’t turned down either). A table of 6 ladies, who weren’t there to eat, just have coffees) were then sat next to us compounding the problem. 60% of the tables in the Nags Head remained empty throughout the lunch but it suited the manager to group everyone together. Unfortunately, two of us were profoundly deaf and I use an additional amplification device which was placed on the table. This amplified the beating music to the extent that I went home feeling very poorly. A thoroughly miserable lunch for us all. Totally unnecessary!

1920's look of the restaurant address to the experience of the whole meal. We ordered halloumi fries with sweet chili sauce. Moist and fresh Chicken fillet skewers with rice and an absolute gorgeous salad made with spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers, nuts, pomegranate, seeds and delicious vinegrete and rice. Katsu curry with fresh peanut sauce, a fresh piece of chicken with crispy panko. For dessert, we both chose a sundae, which ended the meal with excellence. Thank you :) Oh and the staff were welcoming also.

You can't fault the food it's the service that wants looking at menu says free drinks on Tuesday night with a burger that's not the case ask first what drinks are free even a soda and lime is not free don't fall for it

The Sunday roast seems very popular, I have not had one myself yet! It has a nice outdoor area for when the Sun decides to make an appearance. Also they sell varying strengths of alcohol. You can also get a free beer with certain food orders on a Tuesday and Wednesday.

A lovely looking art deco building with a spacious garden and plenty of parking. Dog friendly in the bar side, with lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Good food and lovely staff!

Food quality overall poor. Chicken dried up and tasteless. Scampi tasteless like eating blotting paper, ordered one light and one normal scampi but got the same. Decor awful, tired as is the mishmash of furniture. When compared with Wetherspoons extremely poor and over priced. Never again!

Lovely bite to eat at lunchtime sat outside in the sun

Pretty poor service. They brought out the wrong starter for one of us. My friend ordered a rare steak and it came out charcoal on the top and when cut open it was medium to well done so once again one of us had to sit watching the rest of us eat while they waited for their food. When it did come out it was missing the sauce and onion rings. It felt like we spent the evening chasing after staff rather than catching up with our friends. We will go elsewhere next time.

Service was fine, food was ok, nothing special but overpriced. Had mushrooms that were overcooked and the hunter would have been thrown out of the tribe if he produced a 'Hunters chicken' that small.
