DO NOT BOTHER BOOKING OR GOING THERE. On Monday 29th August I booked a table for 5.30pm Wednesday 31/08/2022 to have dinner with my son and received a confirmation email. I was travelling from Gloucester and he was travelling from Southampton. I arrived at 5.20pm and it was all locked up, in darkness and no tables laid which I found strange as the restaurant should have opened at 12pm. I then rang the phone number and it just kept ringing and ringing. I waited until 5.40pm and it was then decided we would need to find somewhere else to eat, which we did. Imagine my surprise when at 5.44pm I received an email declining my booking that was scheduled to take place 14 mins previously. A long way to drive for no food!!!!

My partner & I got married in Marlborough Town Hall and then had our family & friends in Il Gusto's for our wedding meal. They allowed us to have the restaurant to ourselves, choose our own music to play through their speakers and the food & service was excellent. They made our day and all of our guests thoroughly enjoyed themselves, the environment and especially the food! And was all at such a great price! The wine was also very nice and went down a treat

We are staying in Marlborough for a few nights and love Italian food and thought the menu looked good, particularly as we're vegetarian. There is a lot of competition in Marlborough for pizzas but these were super tasty and enormous! The staff were friendly and the prices were very competitive. We enjoyed it so much that we're going back tonight to try the pasta.

It was my 69th birthday, and I spent the week-end solo in Marlborough. For some walking on the Downs, and to re-visit the town where I was educated from age 13 to 17. After walking to Avebury and getting a bus back, I decided to eat at "Il Gusto d'Italia." Behind the town hall where I took my A level exams, and right opposite the Bear. This restaurant occupies the premises previously called "Sapore d'Italia," a restaurant which judging by TripAdvisor reviews had gone down badly in its last years. The management at "Il Gusto d'Italia" told me that they had re-opened it just three weeks previously. My friends at TripAdvisor, can you please close down the thread for that restaurant, and open a new one for its replacement? Thanks. Initially, I wasn't impressed. Expensive wine, except for the house Sangiovese. As a starter, I ordered calamari without garlic sauce. The calamari were fine, but the rest was just a huge mound of salad. My bad, for failing to get through to them that I didn't want salad dressing, only a slice of lemon on the side. The main course was saltimbocca. I've enjoyed this many times in both England and Italy. This was the first time I've had it with chicken rather than veal. For me, it simply wasn't authentic. But it did taste nice - and the vegetables and potatoes were simple and good, too. And there were other compensations, too. I struck up a good conversation with two people at a neighbouring table. The waiter came to understand me better as the meal went on. He under-charged me for the wine, and when I pointed it out, smiled. And offered me grappa (excellent) and limoncello on the way out. We parted friends. It was a genuinely Italian experience.

We booked a table 6 weeks ago for Christmas week. We planned to visit grandparent and go out for lunch. Turned up yesterday, driving an hour away, to a closed door and a sign saying they are closed until the new year. No phonecall or email! Happy to send an email 48 hours before our booking telling us to arrive promptly or loose our table though

Drinks No Prosecco .. no Merlot … no elderflower gin… (or a number of other gins on the drinks menu) no elderflower tonic.. it wasn’t a great start. Starters We’d asked for the chutney to be in a separate container from the mozzarella and it was still on the plate. Mains the risotto & pasta dishes were seriously lacking in cheese - it was as if the chef had forgotten to add it and none was offered at the table. The lemon chicken was so undercooked it was bright pink - I would have taken a photo if our friends weren’t already totally humiliated and embarrassed that they’d invited us to dinner and it was such a shambles. Desert.. we were told there was no chocolate fondant .. or tiramisu .. so we ordered panna cote .. only to be told that was off the menu too .. we were bought an alternative ( on the house) which was frozen solid and therefore another disappointment.. the most frustrating part was wine shop only being a stone throws away but the staff ’too busy’ ( standing around chatting) to go and get more Merlot, Prosecco & gin and Waitrose being on the high street where there could have sourced some ingredients for making the desserts or bought some ready made Italian puddings! For the first two hours we were there we were the only table upstairs .. so it was very quiet .. had it not been for the fact we’d not seen our dear friends forever we would not have stayed so long. It was terrible.

We visited this evening as a part of 6. On arrival asked for a Prosecco, to be told they had run out (Saturday night 6pm and the wine merchant is two doors down), ok, asked for Malbec instead, they had run out, Elderflower Gin….yep you guessed it, run out. I asked if they had thought of popping to the shop a few doors away, but apparently the two people standing around doing nothing did not have time. Starter arrived, we were sharing some bread, olives and a meat platter. No plates. We waited. Still no plates. Asked for plates. Waited for bread….asked for bread. Main course, just awful, tasteless risotto, bland carbonara and supposedly salad with parmigiana- but of course no parmigiana. We mostly left the meal…but, can’t quite believe we carried on for pudding. Of course the did not have panna cotta, and had run out of tiramisu - gave up and thought I would have a cappuccino. It was awful, like something out of a vending machine. Driving home we commented that it was the worst meal we had eaten (or left) in years.

This place has a really good menu, lots of choice so there will be something for everyone. In my opinion it is also very good value… The quality is high and portion sizes are HUGE! The Waitress did a great job. She was running the floor by herself but nobody had to wait long for service. The food itself was excellent. One of the best risottos I have eaten and my Wife's salmon was amazing (she tells me!). Dessert was great too, a lemon cream filled cannoli, I've had a few over the years and this one was up there with those I have had in Italy. Already booked to go back next week.

We arrived with high hopes…..the reviews were good. There were only 3 staff - a waitress, a chef and a young lad (our waitress had to check wether menu items were available - they also ran out of large bottles of Peroni). The starters were ok. My main Trofiete al Pollo, was not done with twisted pasta, had hardly any chicken, and hardly any courgette. My wife ordered Penne con Salmone e Marscapone. It came in a tomato sauce, and contained some sort of fish….but it was not salmon. The bill when it came was hand written. The restaurant only had 3 to 4 tables going when we left, and we saw the waitress turn customers away, We were with friends and felt sorry for the staff - we paid the bill without complaint and even gave the waitress a tip. Clearly however this restaurant has issues.

Unfortunately the bus service is rubbish and we had to go for a lunch-time meal rather than in the evening. We decided upon the Sapore given other reviews and In short, everything was fabulous - the food was great, the service was with a smile (under the masks) and facilities were spotless.Thank you everyone at the Sapore ( including the chef who obviously knows his trade). It’s particularly challenging to leave a food review when the mains never arrived. We sat for dinner at 7.30 pm & walked out in dispair at 10.15pm having waited for 2 hours for the starters of dry bread & olives, (no oil & vinegar) a mixed seafood plate with unopened mussels & a bruschetta which must have been someone else’s because we didn’t order it. (Sorry, that person) Service was chaotic from start to finish. The whole room was wound up, so poor was the experience & as we finally left we followed a table of 6 who HAD eaten (pizza) & declaring it ‘the worst restaurant they’d ever been to’. They were going to ‘negotiate their bill.’ Hand sanitiser: empty Tables: sticky. Ambience:nil. View: brick wall with scaffolding. Music: hard to converse over. We’d bought our friends & were mortified. This was our first visit to this restaurant. We are locals, not tourists. We only booked it based on the reviews. Hopefully this will be a ‘Once in a lifetime experience’

We were staying in the area and came here for dinner. We had the trio bruschetta and stuffed mushroom for starters. Both presented really well and delicious but was expecting several smaller mushrooms from description on menu rather than one large. It was still delicious despite this. For mains we had the chicken in lemon sauce. It was served butterflied and on a bed of delicious vegetables and sautéed potatoes. It was stunning and the nicest we’ve had in a long time. We sat quite near the kitchen hatch and all the food looked delicious. We would definitely come here again and would highly recommend. The one and only thing that spoilt it was several annoying small flies but don’t let that put you off as the good is fantastic and cooked fresh.

We visited this restaurant on a Saturday evening and was our first time here after noticing it for a while. Upon arrival we were informed the online booking system had a major issue whereby it had been accepting all bookings without providing those updates to the restaurant so they were notably inundated. To compound the issue they had a couple of missing staff members and had to draft in last minute, teenage members whose first foray in to waiting tables was this evening. Whilst this is far from an ideal situation and clearly caused delays in the food and orders being taken it must be remembered this is not anything deliberate on the part of the restaurant and the staff involved were working well beyond capacity doing what they can.Noting the above point while some patrons opted not to wait around and depart which is fine and those on upstairs with us did so respectfully, recognising that this error was not the fault of the staff and as such not need to take it out on them. That cannot be said of some other people though who chose instead to act like everyone who worked there should be their subservient slave whilst periodically subject them to abuse they did not deserve. Condescending comments and aggression to someone who has told you this is their first day when they are simply apologising to you for the delay, shame on you. If you're literally that angry you've had to wait whilst sitting with you family and loved ones then I'd suggest the root of your aggression is far deeper than having to wait a while for your pasta. One booking even rocked up 15mins late for their booking and acted mortally offended that they may have to give the staff a couple of minutes to prepare their table. I doubt any of these people have ever worked a service and show any empathy for people in this sort of situation. We've been locked indoors for months so where possible just try and enjoy being out. If the staff were being rude about it then maybe I could understand the agitation but they were all nothing but very polite and apologetic despite the intense stress they were under.Anyway, on to the food. Absolutely DELICIOUS. We had an antipasti board to start which was lovely and fresh and the homemade bread such a delicious highlight. the risotto main was perfectly cooked with asparagus and peas. The pollo saltimbocca was a beautifully moist piece of chicken with tasty vegetables and sautéed potatoes. To finish the cheesecake and tirimisu were delightfully light and a great way to end the meal. We recognised the issues they'd had through no fault of their own on this night and will be back in the future!

The restaurant is a very cosy, charming place but because of coronavirus, we had the place to ourselves in the early evening apart from two or three people caming in for takeaways. However It felt like a clean and healthy environment, with space for self-distancing so no worries about hygiene. We enjoyed our meal very much - very fresh, obviously cooked to order and wonderfully flavoursome. A clear lack of oversight and leadership evident tonight which is a shame when you consider other reviews and our own previous experience. A really poor welcome - thrown upstairs into a starkly prepared room - I expected Jeremy Beadle to pop out from behind the curtain it was such a bizarre environment. In fact if he had appeared it would have at least warmed the room up. The two young, polite waiting staff working the upstairs area were poorly supported by whoever was supposed to be overseeing them. Every table upstairs had issues and the lack of senior presence and concern shown by management was extremely disrespectful. Food was average at best. Very disappointed with the visit and especially with the lack of recognition of this by the invisible management.

We visited Sapore twice in 4 days. Our first visit was on our anniversary. We were vey happy and visited again 3 days later. All dishes were very delicious and truly Italian. The ambiance and tables were not first class but it is okay as the building is very old.We both loved Italian style mussel starter (Cozze). Pizzas were very good. We also had mushroom starter, grilled fish, seafood risotto, triamisu, lemon tart.I recommend mussel starter and pizza more than others. Plates are pretty big and portions are very generous. Pizza can be easily shared by 2 people.I am very happy with service too (yet the service on the second visit was a little slow and the restaurant was a little noisy due to high volume music but it was ok).Prices are moderate. We booked a weekend away in Marlborough and specifically booked this restaurant for our Saturday night (due to the good reviews, the menu and pictures online). Unfortunately, it did not live up to expectations. On arriving at 7.30 we were shown to a table upstairs in what felt a bit like a 'holding room' rather than an extension of the restaurant. It was a cold night and the room was cold, unadorned and lacking any sort of atmosphere. The lighting is also very bright and not quite as you would expect from a nice Italian restaurant. We asked our waiter whether there was actually another table downstairs and he said he would check - he never came back to us with an answer! We ordered our starters and a bottle of wine. Then we watched two other couples arrive after us and do the same. Their starters arrived about 20 mins later (we were still waiting for ours). By the time we had been there 55 minutes, our starters had still not arrived. We asked the waiter about them and he said he would go and check! He came back to us and said there had been a problem and they would be with us soon! My husband then asked to see the manager... the manager arrived and we explained we had now been at the restaurant for an hour with no food and others had been served before us. He said he would look into it for us and from then on, only he served us, not the other waiter! Our starters miraculously came very soon after! They were very nice, I can't fault the food but the time they took was annoying. Our mains arrived around 20 minutes later and again, were very nice (not amazing but nice). The manager then asked if we wanted a dessert but we did not. He discounted our bill by taking off our starters and although this was a kind gesture, it was just a disappointing evening in all and unfortunately, we would not return to this restaurant.

Let me preface my review with a statement that I have never posted a poor review before, and it’s so much more upsetting because it was nothing to do with the great food. Whether it was a result of the Eat Out scheme, and too many tables were booked, I’m not sure; but the experience we had was because of woefully poor service. There were 2 of us dining. 1. It took 40 minutes for one of our starters to arrive; the second arrived 2/3 minutes after my wife had finished hers. (Having brought this to the waiter’s attention, we were told this would not be charged for. Not the point!). 2. Main course arrived, and my wife asked for Parmesan; it took 9 minutes to arrive. 3. My mussels dish should have arrived with bread but didn’t and had to be requested. 4. On delivering my mussels, I was told a bowl for the shells was on its way; which didn’t arrive. We chose to eat here based on the reviews and menu and our whole experience was marred by what was possibly an over booking situation. We really don’t mind waiting - if we are advised why and how long! But to have the waiting staff excusing the kitchen for being overstretched, yet still not providing an adequate service suggests that internal communication needs to be improved. To conclude, it didn’t fulfil the ‘Fine Dining’ experience advertised on the website.

Considering the post-lock-down rush and the fact they were slammed to the walls the food and the service was second to none. I went with two kids under 10 who both said they never wanted to eat “chain store” pizza ever again now they’ve tasted “real” pizza! Meanwhile I had mixed grilled fish and hubby had an enormous and perfectly cooked fillet steak and they were both wonderful! An added bonus was the bill and not realising there was the ‘eat out to help out’ discount. I would have happily paid full price and more... support this lovely local business and their wonderful staff!

The starter was good, the pizza was good, the lobster and crab ravioli was mediocre, too thick, too dry and little sauce.

Called in here after checking the menu. Restaurant is bigger than it looks from the front. Staff were lovely. Service was very quick and the food was amazing. Large portions so if you've got a small appetite like me you'll struggle to eat it all. We would definitely recommend and would visit again if we're in the area.

We came out to celebrate a birthday in the family, the food was outstanding and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, they helped my Nan put her coat on as she’s on crutches so that was really sweet. Gabi was our waitress and you can’t get any better, she was amazing with my youngest nephew and she also put a candle in the dessert, thank you so much for the amazing food ❤️❤️

Booked a table for four having previously eaten here. We were shown to a table at the top of the small flight of stairs directly opposite the bar area. Not a great table and the wall immediately next to the table was dirty. Drinks order: lemonade and mint unavailable (they were all out of mint); the Pinot Grigio was not chilled and we were brought (and charged) for a large glass, as opposed to the small one ordered. There was no ice in the water jug. Starters: the mozzarella was unavailable but the chilli prawns and the calamari were very tasty. Mains: they too were very good (be warned the smoked sausage on the Fungi e Salsicce Pizza is very smokey!) All four desserts were all lovely, although we had to ask for another spoon because one was dirty. None of the three courses arrived together - rather three arrived and we waited for the fourth ...and waited. The coffees came before the desserts (?!) The restaurant was busy, the atmosphere was lively and the staff very friendly. But service was far from slick and at times a bit embarrassing. Worst of all was continuous 'crash' of cutlery being thrown into storage behind the bar - it was like being in a school canteen and given where we were seated, we found ourselves having to 'shout' over the constant crashing. The staff were entirely oblivious to the impact on customers seated at the front of the restaurant. So I agree with many of the reviews in that the food is great, but the customer experience could be so much better. A real shame.

Went here as a family of 6 and was disappointed. The first four bottles of red wine weren't available. Or mushroom starter. Had aubergine parmigiana to start and 3 thin slices. Three mouthfuls and gone! Told head waiter and he brought me another. The food was ok but not anything special. It was at the end of the meal we were astonished. He brought us a shot of limoncella and told us it was on the house. He said if we had another we had to pay. We drank these and a couple of minutes later he said I give you another on the house. We weren't that bothered to have another but accepted. Then he took our bill away and added a charge of £24 extra. I was shocked and wanted to complain but my husband said not to!! I find this behaviour very underhand.

We had heard reasonable reports of this restaurant but we were not so lucky on our visit. We felt that it was overpriced and whilst our waiter was polite we felt that we were not really the centre of his activity - he was 'just going through the motions' of service.

Me and my friends have visited here a few times now and on each occasion it has been just as special as the last! The staff are so friendly and attentative, even on the busier nights we have visited. The food is always hot, fresh and full of flavour. This time I had the calamari to start and shared a pizza with my friend as they are generous portion sizes, I didn't quite finish the whole one the last time ( however they provided me with a pizza box to take it away!). We also had some good wine recommendations from the waiter who always makes me laugh. I look forward to returning for another wonderful night!

We stopped in Marlborough & thoroughly enjoyed our meal in this restaurant. We hadn't booked, but it was an early midweek evening around 5.30, so it was quiet & we were able to get a table. I had Chicken with Dolci & Spinach. It was divine! My husband had a Ravioli with Ricotta & Spinach. Both of us agreed we had a first class meal.

This was the first time we visited the restaurant and we had a very nice evening. The atmosphere was lively and the staff were very warm, welcoming and efficient. They offer a special lunch deal for pasta or pizza at a fixed price.

This is the first time that we have been here. We were meeting friends for lunch. We received a lovely warm welcome and were seated at a great table near the window. The restaurant had a lovely atmosphere and although we were the only ones there initially it quickly filled up. The service was efficient and friendly. There is a lot of choice on the menu. My husband chose mussels for a starter and said they were the best he had ever eaten. Our pizzas were huge and tasty and we ended up taking some home. We were not rushed and had a thoroughly enjoyable lunch. Would definitely go again

First time at this restaurant. A most enjoyable evening and food was good. Could not believe how busy the restaurant was - we arrived at just before 7.30pm on a Saturday evening and there seemed like a coach load arriving after that for about an hour so you can imagine the staff were stretched to say the least and therefore service slipped a bit and perhaps the staff were not so attentive as they should have been because they had so much to do. They were very nice though when they had the time. The restaurant had character and was well laid out and we had a nice meal. We will hope to visit again sometime in the future

Finding a rare evening without children is pleasure enough. However, when adding a spur of the moment trip to a gem of a restaurant like this made it a genuine, unexpected treat. Super food, generously portioned and service to match, this is a credit to all involved.

So after a little drive out Avebury way, then a cut through Hackpen Hill we ended up in Marlborough, hungry and needing to eat. Saw the A board outside and so glad we did. Attentive service including a great recommendation for the main course, we shared the sea salt and rosemary Focaccia for starter (no pic sorry, smelled so tempting we devoured it), then Sam had Pollo al Limone con Asparagi with seasonal veg, I had Linguine al Frutti di Mare (and yes, Parmesan on top as I love most cheeses), then Sam had Profiteroles and I had a Panna Cotta for dessert. All washed down with a nice Pinot Grigio (Sam) and a Peroni/Lime and Soda (me). Really tasty, great portion sizes, yummy all round. Great grub and around £26 a head for starter, main, dessert and 2 rounds of drinks. As Arnie would say, I’ll be back. Grazie mille

Excellent service with bargain prizes at lunch time compared to the very large pizza sizes. My only minus point came from the rather long waiting time but that is OK if you are not in a hurry.

Four girlfriends and I came here on a weekend away , we knew nothing about the place and were very happy with our choice!. One of my friends asked for a cocktail that wasn't on the menu , the waiter was very helpful and produced a perfect 'White Russian' which was apparently just right. Our food was piping hot and very tasty. We had Risotto. The service was attentive but not overbearing. Thank you Sapore D'Italia Marlborough bellissimo !

The meal was disappointing in several ways, firstly my partner had booked table number seven. But when we arrived we were not shown to table seven by the young female waitress. This was mistake number one and we had only just arrived. I ordered minestrone soup. The soup consisted of very large pieces of broccoli, courgettes and other vegetables placed on top of a small amount of broth. The large vegetables were too large to fit on the spoon. The chef had simply put a side order of vegetables in a bowl of broth. The soup was nothing like how a Minestrone soup should taste which normally includes diced vegetables and pasta, which was what I expected. This was lazy cooking and not authentic classic Italian. The dish of mustard that was served with my main course did not contain a spoon to serve. The lemon cheesecake that we ordered tasted like mousse and was disappointing.I will not be returning to this restaurant for the soon because the standard of service and food served does not match prices charged.

Great menu as well as lovely food. Good variety for vegetarians and vegans in particular. All the food is made from scratch which means that even if a particular item on the menu cannot be ordered as a vegetarian or vegan, it can always be made to be! That is why my daughter was actually able to taste her first vegan lasagne and she made sure to eat every bite.
