Sands Bistro in Ceredigion

Ordered cream tea. Scone fell apart as I picked it up. It had been heated up. Partner took it to counter to explain, very politely, that we didn't want it hot and it had collapsed. Counter staff girl explained she's told to heat them. Partner attempted to explain cream tea scones aren't normally hot as clotted cream will end up melting but it was obvious she was now upset. The next customer had the coffee pot slammed extra hard on the counter. Then the girl, after disappearing out back with another staff member, came back behind the counter and made some reference to 'people shouldn't tear a strip pit of people just because they're disabled' (I'm a stroke survivor in a wheelchair). I was horrified and couldn't wait to get out of there!!

Amazing tasty delicious breakfast - Olympic breakfast and plenty of it. Lovely cuppa and really friendly attentive staff which was so nice. Eaten here many times before (live locally) and never ever been disappointed. Nice clean environment and good toilets. Thank you.

We were here in Borth at this breakfast place. Very busy but unfortunately not a high quality place. The place is suitable for a simple sandwich and a coffee if you don't expect too much from it.

we popped in just after 1120 , i had burger came with skin on chips coleslaw side garnish , was more than enough , my husband had the fish and chips 2 good pieces of fish same chips mushy peas he said it was lovely well worth the money even thou they had forgot the tarter sauce , will go again

Coffee shop in Borth serving acceptable coffee and the usual range of cakes. You can eat their too but we were just there for morning coffee.

We stopped over before our journey home, it was a lovely way to end our weekend away. The staff were really lovely and friendly. They accommodated our son’s egg allergy - delicious food and lovely portions!

Very disappointed, My wife asked the staff member if they did "Decaf" to which the lady said Yes, So my wife had her coffee and was ill all night due to it NOT being "Decaf"......

The service was amazing, all waitresses were extremely helpful and kind. Prices are decent for a holiday seaside town and the coffee and cake was superb. Would highly recommend if you’re passing through or visiting on holiday.

Burgers were greasy and tasteless, and the roast vegetable panini has hardly anything on it. The only nice thing was the chips, and for £35 I was very disappointed as most of the burger went in the bin

Absolutely beautiful breakfast, we ate here twice, once as a large party of 22 and secondly as a family of 7, both times they never failed to disappoint. The food was tasty, and the service excellent.

We stopped here after visiting the beach. The staff were friendly and served us quickly as it was quite quiet. We stayed for cake and a drink and then settled the bill. The toilets were very clean too. I don’t expect we’ll have time to go back before the end of our holiday but I would come back again in the future.

I can not speak highly enough about the staff, friendly and cheerful, and they were rushed off their feet with the Borth Carnival GO there HOT FRESH food and NO fat on the breakfast

Stopped for a coffee and ice cream. The girl who was serving the ice cream was like a snail! There was a queue and she was on her own serving while the other three girls behind the counter were on their phones when they should have been helping her. They really need to focus more on the customer! The pistachio ice cream tasted off… it was the last scoop left in the tray and obviously was past its sell by date! We would not recommend this place at all. Management needs to train their staff properly!

Decided to give this place the benefit of the doubt and try it again. Last time the fish n chips were truly awful, frozen fish from a supermarket and oven chips. This time we waited an hour for pizzas, they'd actually forgotten us, when they did eventually turn up after twice reminding the staff they were ok. However the waitress managed to drop the chips on the floor and didn't even bother to clear the mess up. We sat there trying to eat our food while being pestered by seagulls scavenging the mess. The tables weren't cleared there was rubbish blowing around, all in all not a great experience, we definitely won't be going back. The management need to sort things out and not leave a bunch of young kids on their own.

Looking for breakfast that we could take our big lab and this place was great. Great full English and good coffee at a good price. Plenty of room for the dog. Friendly staff and free off road parking. What more do you need !!

We love this place. I don’t think it was there the last time I was in Borth back in 2004. Friendly staff, love the conservatory as it warms up nicely when the sun shines making a cosy atmosphere. Italian husband loved the pizzas. Teens usually had the breakfast (minus baked beans). Hoping to go back as many times as possible before go back to Australia next month

Great breakfast, heartily recommend The Goliath if you're hungry! I don't do beans or cooked tomatoes so there would have been more on the plate. Staff are wonderful and friendly, one of our 'go to' places as guaranteed a good experience every time.

Lovely place to eat made to feel welcome in there breakfast was excellent very clean and toilet kept clean as well went there a few times we stopped on caravan park opposite really easy to walk to and parking is excellent as well

So good that we visited two days in a row! Great breakfasts with generous portions size. They coped really well with our group of 12 whilst they also had another large group at the same time.

Excellent customer service and lovely food, my partner's cooked breakfast was nice and hot and my pepperoni pizza was delicious and hot and it was home made pizza (not frozen stuff), I also had a breakfast bap aswell on another occasion with egg mushroom bacon...

Fish and chips disappointing, chips were frozen fries. Pizza came burnt and was exchanged for a burger that was pretty grim, cheap tasteless patties, resulting in a greasy, bland burger. Staff were friendly and helpful, so one point for that.

Gone downhill. Chips are frozen skin on fries and used to be chunky chips. Fish was slimey. Told it would be 10 minutes took 45. Used to be favourite place in Borth but wouldnt go again.

I ordered the shrimp in garlic and chilli and it was an absolute rip off. Just 7 small prawns with a cheap small salad and some bread , I would not recommend.

Bought two ice creams from the cafe. £3 each for the smallest scoop ever. Hardly filled the top of the cone. Then bought gifts from the shop attached. On giving someone a stick of rock they pointed out it had a label on for Blackpool....

First time visit, only had a bacon bap and a latte but both were perfect. Great service and the whole team were so friendly!. Definitely recommend it!

We are so happy we came across this place. I have been vegetarian all my adult life and the vegetarian burger is the best I have ever tasted. Highly recommend the gluten free carrot cake too. Staff all helpful and friendly. And the dogs loved...

Visited a number of times during our holiday and the food was excellent every time. Service was always quick too despite the COVID restrictions and busy summer traffic. Happy to recommend Sands to all who visit Borth.

The food was awful and completely over priced, we paid £17 for oven chips and the cheapest supermarket frozen fish. Don't waste your money been fooled that it's fresh fish and chips.

We went to Borth for breakfast and stumbled across this place.It’s clean and covid safe and right on the sea front.We had two breakfast boxes and ate them in the conservatory.Food was warm fresh and matched any other breakfast I have had recently.We decided to go watch the sun go down in Borth so I said why don’t we grab some food from Sands bistro as the breakfast was so good.Wow I picked pizza wife had a panini both freshly made and the pizza had bags of meat and flavour.Would I go back 100% would I recommend 100%.

We had a takeaway pizza to eat on the beach from Sands it was made freshly and tasted great. There was plenty of choice and we all loved it! We also popped in for drinks as it sells good cappuccino and alcoholic drinks too. A nice outdoor seating area when the sun is shining

The pizzas were tasty and the waiting times were as advised. Only issue was one item we ordered not being available, but they apologised and refunded.

We ate here several times. The first was breakfast which was average. We would have liked the bacon to have been crispier. The coffee was very nice and was consistent. The second time was ate very late. We phoned for a take away. We had a pizza, chips and onion rings but the pizza and onion rings were slightly overdone with the pizza being burnt. It was still edible. The third time we had a bacon roll which was delicious. The fourth was a panini and chips which was again delicious. The staff were lovely each time we visited and the cafe was very organised. We would definitely recommend this cafe.

After a braising walk needed a coffee, friendly staff service a little slow good coffee. The cafe is clean and tidy would go again.

My husband and I stopped here for a late lunch and ordered Brie, Bacon and Cranberry Baguettes with chunky chips plus tea and coffee respectively. The service was friendly. The drinks arrived and a little while later the food followed. The baguettes looked good and were served with colelaw and a salad garnish plus the chips which were superb. I took one bite and noticed what appeared to be a small hair on the bread which I lifted off and put on my plate. I pointed at my plate at which point my husband leaned across and took hold of a hair sticking out of the baguette filling. He putted out about six inches and it was still coming. At this point I summoned the waitress and asked if she would eat what was on my plate. She was clearly very concerned and took it away offering to produce a fresh one. I declined as I really did not want to eat anything in the light of this experience. When we left, the waitress was again apologetic but still charged for my husbands food and coffee and for my tea. She went on to say that she did not understand where the hair came from as it was a different colour to the person who prepared the food (for context, my hair is about a quarter of an inch long and my husband's head is shaved). Far from reassuring me, this compounded the problem since, if the source of the contamination could not be identified, how could it be eliminated?Sadly, there is clearly a food hygiene issue here and I would not eat here again nor would I recommend it to others.

I visited during my stay in Borth & found the staff to be very friendly (to me & my dogs). The cafe was clean & had a great selection of food especially cakes & ice creams. They cater well for those on a gluten free diet.

After decades of avoiding this place because we prefer the other cafes on offer,We popped in over the August bank holiday, Sands was quite busy but still we found a table outside. We found the staff friendly and efficient. The drinks and cakes were bought out to us within about 5 minutes. Cakes were really very good. It was nice to sit outside as the weather was good (we did have to share to terrace with many many wasps). Prices were fair. Toilets were clean, a hand dryer in the gents would be preferable, that’s about the only negative. The car park is extremely handy. This isn’t the most exciting cafe and does feel a bit canteen-like but what it lacks in quirkyness it makes up with space.

Visited Borth area on Sunday. Called in to Sands for a quick breakfast. Lovely position, free car parking, excellent and friendly service. Great food. A very pleasant stop. Lots of seating inside and outside. Visited later in the day for dinner for ten family members. Again staff were brilliant and food was served all together and piping hot. Would recommend. Many Thanks to all the staff. Dog friendly too.

Borth is our favourite stop at the seaside. I wish, we'd stop here before as the food here is very good and not to expensive. We enjoyed the dinner and stopped again next day for breakfast. Very friendly staff.

Nice cafe with very friendly, helpful staff. My son has learning disabilities and they are always extremely welcoming and patient with him. They sell Northern Bloc ice cream and always have a few vegan ones.

We visited Sands Bistro on our stay in Borth. The staff were friendly and apologetic at the wait for our food (it was a busy time and we didn't expect any different). When the food came it was a good portion for all meals, adults and kids alike. We will return!

been to the sands for lunch today very disappointed always come here every week through out the season we live local, but the bagutte today was soft tasted like it was a parbaked one that hadent been in the oven to finish cooking or a left over one from day before that had gone really soft over night , didnt enjoy it, so sorry to say wont be going there for a while ,

Was visiting the area on a camping trip recently and thought I'd treat myself to a cooked breakfast on the last day. Found the Sands bistro through an internet search. The bistro was very clean and tidy and all the staff were very pleasant and friendly. The breakfast was great and one of the highlights of my trip! Highly recommended.

Me and family popped in after a day out at the animal kingdom. Service was quick even offered to grab us a high chair for our daughter. Order was taken promptly. Ordered kids chicken nuggets, cod and chips and huge breakfast. Asked if I could swap black pudding and mushroom for more eggs this was no issue! After we cleared out plates my partner and daughter had 1 scoop of ice cream each and I had the red velvet fudge cake. All extremely delicious and all came to a satisfying price. Would 100% recommend.

We visitied Sands cafe everyday whilst staying in Borth. The staff are friendly and very welcoming of children. The coffee, breakfasts and homemade cakes were delicious and suited a range of tastes and allergy requirements. Would highly recommend

Fantastic little seaside cafe, My wife daughter and I ate here and I have to say the quality of the food was exceptional valve. Dog friendly and the staff made us feel very welcome. We ordered puddings and forgot to ask for no nuts on our banana split, the staff didn’t hesitate in offering to remake it without nuts even though it was our error.

We visited here whilst on holiday. We had previously been on another holiday and it was great, we were soaking wet and apologised for the puddles and the staff we fine and joked about the weather. This time it was very different.

Very over priced cafe, I have visited a number of times. And gets more and more expensive compared to the quality of the food. I visited most recently on mothers day - the guy who took my order had terrible english and rushed my order which was very rude to not only my table but other members of staff. Perhaps he is the manager??! resulting in the wrong food arriving to the table. its shame as if it was better priced and better run it could be a great cafe by the beach.

What a place, Such nice people running the cafe and gift shop, Lots to chose from with the menu and the food is so reasonably priced. The ice cream is lush. Cakes also very tasty. Very clean. Loos also very clean. Will be back real soon

We popped in here on an early November afternoon whilst on Holiday. The staff were friendly, and the food was nice. It’s a little pricey, but so are the other similar establishments in the area. It’s table service, but you can be left waiting to pay your bill. Still, I enjoyed my cheese and gammon style ham sandwich with chunky chips, washed down with a strawberry milkshake. Nice to see the remnants of an old ‘It’s A Gift Arcade’ machine in there too. The Sands is licensed as well. Hope to try some more of the menu next season.

Another happy visit to borth love this bistro the girls are always pleasant never too long to wait for food which is always spot on. See you in February hope your open.

Very nice food, the menu was unclear however the staff were good and the scones were delicious! The view from the front of the restaurant is a beautiful sea scenery, perfect for a light lunch or breakfast as not open in the evening, also perfect to nip in and grab an ice cream, they also own a car park dead opposite that’s free parking permitting you buy something from their or the shop next door to it.

Surprised to find such a good cafe, food was good and fresh, with a great deal of choice. Great to let in dog's and I think that could be a good way forward

Ordered 1/2 oz bacon double cheeseburger - the exact description from the menu. When the burger arrived it had onions on which is not stated on the menu and I can not eat - I spoke to waiter who said they could make another with no onions however shortly after a lady who I assume is the manager / owner came out very abruptly to say not only does it come with onions but the burger is a steak and onion burger, she spoke in a very rude matter of fact manner to say this is in the description on the menu and she knew for sure as she wrote the menu. Obviously we showed her her own menu and in black and white the description is as above no mention of onions! Even with the menu clearly in front of her she continued to argue that it was obvious onions were in and on the burger and her tone was as if to say I was stupid for not realising! I have visited The Sands a number of times and have usually had a good experience but the attitude of the manager / owner was awful, she even expected us to pay for the burger which I declined to do seeing as what was brought out to me was not as described. The whole thing should of been handled differently, I don’t often complain but I really don’t expect to be spoken to like I am idiot. The waiter and waitresses were brilliant and very polite it’s a shame the manager / owner isn’t.

Probably the best prawn Mary rose sandwich I have ever had. Lots of filling on lovely fresh bread, with a few tortilla chips. Lovely clean premises and friendly staff and a good choice of food from ice creams to fish and chips, cakes and sandwiches. Will definitely drive the 20mile journey to eat here again in the future.

Need a drink with your dog no problem here take them in with you, nice food good cup of tea and good price, clean toilets

Met a party of friends and decided to eat in. I ordered the steak baguette with chips, the latter double cooked. It was ok. My friend had the cod in batter, which was ok. Our party of friends had the daily breakfast and left some of it on their plates. The speciality tea was stale and the tea pot had a lid that did not close, which meant the tea got cold. The crockery had seen better days and did not match! For the prices charged, I expected better. Service was ok, but one had to chase things up. I would not be returning to this establishment, other than it's a good place to meet, being a good land mark.
