Food was very tasty, atmosphere lively, and quite loud. Service was not what I'd expect for a higher priced restaurant like this. It took ages for anyone to even take an initial drinks order, even though we were sat right in front of the kitchen. No one seemed to be allocated to oversee our table so service continued to be hit and miss until Cesare got involved. He rectified the errors of his colleagues and was actually really entertaining and left us feeling that it was a fun evening. Thank you Cesare!

OMG. Superb, absolutely fantastic food, amazing surroundings and perfect service. Cannot fault the place and highly highly recommended.

Terrible attitude of waiter completely spoiled family celebration. First time in my life have walked out of a restaurant. This person had an attitude from the point we sat down, from drinks order to questions on the menu he made my wife and I feel we should not be there. Unlike some of the other super people in there he was rude, abrupt and condescending. Left without a drink or a bite to eat as would not subject my family to this very bad tempered man. Maybe should consider if customer service is his area of strength. Will not be back to this restaurant. Have eaten in San Marcos in Liverpool for years and never subjected to this feeling.

La comida del mar es maravillosa, y el restaurante también hace medias botellas de vinos de alta calidad, lo cual es importante para mí ya que mi pareja no bebe. El servicio fue excepcional, con muchos camareros anticipando todas sus necesidades.

My husband, son and I were staying overnight at the airport before an early flight to Venice. We arrived late evening, shortly before the kitchen was due to close. The management were very accommodating and welcomed us to a table in the busy dining room even though we'd explained that we only wanted a light snack (we'd eaten on the train). They could easily have turned us away as inconvenient customers who were not going to spend very much so I was impressed with the courteous service and attention. We had a plate of ribs, a pizza and a cheese and bressaola dish - generally tasty, good and fresh although the ribs were slightly tough. The decor in the restaurant is elegant, typically Italian with a flourish and there are photos of previous celebrity customers on display! Because it was late on a Friday night, the atmosphere was loud and lively and the wine seemed to be flowing freely - perhaps not suitable if you're looking for somewhere quiet and romantic but perfect for parties of friends or families.

Certainly one of the best Italian restaurant in Manchester... very nice traditional Italian Cuisine, good choice of Italian Wine... and Italian Service... maybe a bit "show off" but if you care about good italian food... it will match your highest expectation.

Not much to say here than the title.... One of the best restaurants for good service and fantastic food with no issues... Great wine, the ravioli is awesome and you don't feel like a kid ordering pizza... not as expensive as other places too, good value for good food and wine

The restaurant had a very lively atmosphere and it was really busy when we visited. Service was very brisk, but the waiters were very friendly and courteous nonetheless. Chivalrous too, which was lovely to see. We had pizza and pasta... both were beautiful! Other meat dishes coming out of the kitchen looked amazing too. Everything was so fresh, well-prepared and presented to a high standard. Fresh food and friendly waiters... I'd be happy to come back again.

Arrived for a late lunch, the restaurant was packed full but we were offered a table after only a very short wait. Food did take a little longer to arrive, not surprisingly, but that was expected and not a problem. Very good service, great menu, food delicious. Not terribly expensive for the quality. Would definitely return.

Fui con mis dos hijos (1 de las cuales debo añadir que es el comensal más delicado en el mundo! Para una comida tardía) cumpleaños. Fue increíble. Mi hijo mayor y yo tuvimos la mejor que hemos comido lasaña, Señor exigente tenía una pizza y patatas fritas y compartimos una ensalada. La calidad de la buena era fantástica, así como el precio! No podía creer lo razonable era - sin duda volveremos en nuestra próxima visita a Manchester.

Ate there last night and it was absolutely delicious. I had gnocchi and scampi (no, not in breadcrumbs!) then the most tasty and beautifully presented mille-feuille. I can't wait to go back.

The whole atmosphere is relaxing. The staff are so well-trained and knowledgeable. The food is presented beautifully and is cooked to perfection. Very busy when we visited, but staff and kitchen coped well.

Went for lunch yesterday waiter and waitress both where no responsive. The lady was to busy looking at her self in the mirror and smelled of cigarettes, the gentleman not sure what planet he was on had to ask 3 times for my drink which was missed off the first round of drinks, food was great but I won't be hurrying back tryed to over charge me .

Went their two times in a week. The seating was ok, table too close to each other. Attendant are quite responsive to orders. You have to ask waiter to repeat the order. The pasta dishes are the best, the can serve it both main or appetizer. Dover Fish was the best I ever had in a long time. It's a must as it will remain the memory for a long time.

Nice place to have some good Italian food. Wild boar was absolutely great and the wine menu was superb. Gladly recommend this place and would visit again

Visited San Marco on 23rd April with the wife for our anniversary meal. While she had been before, it was my first visit. She had been impressed on her earlier visits, and needless to say I was very impressed with our whole experience. The service from when we first entered the restaurant was first class. The nice little touches were all there and it made you feel that you were a valued customer. And all this despite the fact that it was very busy. The food was excellent. My pan fried scallops to start were delicious, as was my risotto, and the wife was equally as happy with her bruschetta and fillet steak. With a nice bottle of Merlot to wash I'd down, it was a very enjoyable meal. It is not a place for cheap eats, but it is a great restaurant for a special occasion.

This is a bright and rather glitzy place that serves good food but has a somewhat over inflated idea about itself. Some of the more senior staff members are rather pompous and I feel that the restaurant is rather expensive, serving sound Italian food at prices that would surprise many Southern Europeans. Certainly not less than good, it is achieves a 'solid, good mark but no more.

It's all about going there and showing off, if you actually take notice of the food it's nothing special. If you want to go and preen and pretend you are one of the elite... this is the place to go - all hype.

Nice atmosphere with attentive staff and top quality food. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for. Hadn't booked so had to wait 20 mins til a seat was available, but we managed to grab a spot at the bar and enjoy a relaxing beer. The food does take a while to arrive and is delivered quite randomly (the menu tells you this, so it wasn't unexpected) but serving the salad last of 6 dishes seems a little odd. Still, that's a minor gripe and didn't in any way spoil the meal. Would definitely repeat the experience.

Started badly when we had a couple of pre-lunch drinks at the bar. Firstly the barman was rather abrupt (didn't say 'thank you' once) and insisted we paid in cash rather than putting the drinks on our tab. Very odd. We were then 'told' by one of the managers that we must go to our table: "Let's go - the table is now ready". Having been rushed away from the bar to our table, we waited another 20 minutes before drinks or food orders were taken. The service from the waiters (white jackets) was fine, but less so from the managers (black suits). Food was okay but nothing special. My main gripe was that we felt that San Marco was interested in our money but nothing else. We were hoping to have a relaxed pre-Christmas lunch but just felt like a number in a large, chaotic and impersonal place. There are better Italians in Manchester.

Great atmosphere although a bit on the noisy side , service and food good although the wine waiters continually fill your glass which I found a bit annoying as did my head the next day as ended up drinking more than I would have done normally

Apart from being a little noisy from Christmas parties the food was excellent, service was attentive. A great range of fresh seafood to choose from and good selection of Italian wines. A good venue to meet but maybe a bit too frantic for a serious business dinner.

De gode, italienske smakene kommer til sin rett hos San Marco. Pizza og pastarettene er alle av det gode slaget. Man føler seg hensatt til Italia. Andre retter på menykartet kan også anbefales. Det samme med vinene, fyldige og velsmakende til en hyggelig penge. Servicen kan til sine tider være noe dårlig i den forstand at det er noe ventetid, men ikke verre enn at dette stedet er et godt alternativ blant mage muligheter i Manchester. Spesielt i helgene er det travelt her, så bestill bord. Sentral plassering teller i positiv retning.

Excellent Italian food with friendly and attentive service, I have been here many times and it has always been excellent.

We went here for dinner. We had to wait about half an hour for the table we reserved. Friendly bar scene and very busy. The sea food looked really fresh. The pizza and pasta are amazing. The tuna tartar was fantastic and they prepare it at your table. The menu is super huge and you have a lot of to choose from. Lots of celebrity pictures on the wall which is a good sign.

The food was fabulous, the portions were quite large. Had I known this I may have skipped the starter.Very buzzy restaurant it got the thumbs up from my man and me!

We went here for a business dinner and the food service, atmosphere and bonhomie were really good. Happy friendly knowledgeable staff made it a pleasure. Not so expensive but do order the veg and potato sides as the dishes are too small if you don't.Advisable to book ahead and do watch out for celebs, especially footballers who like to dine out here. We saw a certain Man city manager eating at the table next to us. The restaurant is up market enough that no one approached him or asked him for his autograph - very civilised.

Visited San Marco in central Manchester on Sunday. It was my first visit but I certainly hope it won't be the last. The ambience and food are superb. A member of staff even explained where the type of pasta I had chosen came from. The service is exceptional, the politeness and pleasantness of the staff is fantastic, it was obvious they took pride in what they did. The whole dining experience in the restaurant was great. I'm really looking forward to my next visit and have recommended it to all my friends.

The ambiance and the food were first class, however, the portion size of the main course was small. The latter is clearly a group standard as I discovered when having from the similar table de hote menu at one of the other restaurants in the chain the Pinnichio. The restaurant was extremely busy having at least 60 covers whilst we were there

Went there on a Monday night and the place was packed. My first time at this restaurant and was quite impressed. Started at the bar for a few drinks with some work colleagues then sat down for a long dinner. Had some decent wine, food was great and service was top notch. I would def try this place again.

This is just an average Italian restaurant catering for the English palette. Nothing bad about it but nothing outstanding. Average food with decent service in your average surroundings.

We booked a table to celebrate with family my daughter's graduation that day. From the moment we arrived it headed downhill. We ordered drinks at the bar and pouring something from a bottle was about all they could get right. When the time came to move to the table I had to ask a waiter to carry the wine bucket, stand and bottle to the table. Reluctantly he did so slamming it down next to the table so hard that ice and water splashed out of the top. Food and drinks were ordered, they took ages and several things had to be sent back and so the evening went. We spoke to several waiter and managers. One seemed to understand and take control of the problem but then, when another thing went wrong and I asked to speak to him, I was informed he had gone off duty.Eventually they agree that we would be served dessert at their expense. Even that was so bad that we sent back some of the gratis dishes.We ended up refusing to pay for the food and settled the wine bill only. They did not argue because one waiter even agreed that it has been horrid throughout.And, if you look at the menu carefully, it is very basic English food given Italian names. The biggest niggle was the sense that because there are a few pictures of celebrities they have the arrogance to serve up the dross that they did.DAUGHTER IN TEARS, EVENING RUINED - NEVER EVER AGAIN.

It's popularity remains intact, so I guess they must be doing something right, however the busy nature of the atmosphere sometimes appears to get in the way of the accuracy of the bill !'Stray' bottles of wine appear on your bill, and also glasses of 'digestiv' (lemoncello etc.) which are brought unrequested to your table at the conclusion of the meal are then charged at £7 ! When this is brought to their attention, there is the faux-shock at their 'mistake'. I guess they're happy to delete this inclusion for the few who realise/query it, if 100+ other diners each night are blissfully unaware they're being fleeced ?

a fathers day treat . Food and restaurant fab but the staff very poor. they are all good at waltzing arournd ignoring you. Trying to get there attention no way once you have orderd. My desert had a drink with it, Oh I' sorry I forgot it !!!???. my wife also should have had a drink with her desert, when we orderd coffee my wife seeing as you missed my drink with desert I'll have my coffee instead, Oh no you cant do that the tills wont allow it !!!???. watch your bill they put on 10% for a tip, we told them to take it off because the service was very bad, so they got no tip from us. I know we are only another customer but, wake up we pay your bills and we will not be going to you again.

We had lunch here recently and enjoyed the experience . Although the food is very much geared to the English palette and they serve all the usual - it is really very edible . The ambience and atmosphere are good and the service is very attentive . Price wise it is a bit on the high side for what you get - but as a choice for lunch in the centre of Manchester - you could do worse. Predictable - but all worth eating , with very good service.

Had a Friday night out with some friends and decided to see if San Marco lived up to ir reputation.No need to worry there! the food was terrific, feggatini followed by the best sea bass I have ever tasted,. The house wine was excellent and the atmosphere lively without being overpowering. The menu is to say the least extensive and even the most difficult client would find a dish that suits. Would recommend to anybody! It is a bit more expensive than the average but well worth it

Popped in for a meal for the first time having known about this restaurant for many years. We were tempted in by a A Board advertising a £12 early bird menu, but we were given the al a carte and had to ask for the EB Menu. This was brought but it actually had the same dish as a starter and main, out of a choice of two for each, so we reverted to the A la carte, but not the best way to start a relationship! It used to have a solid reputation and be always busy, not sure if we picked a bad time (early Fri evening) or things have gone south but it was very quiet, and also quite cold. The food was all acceptable but without any wow factor - just traditional Italian fair. My ribs starter were delicious, but the main course of carbonara was nothing special to be frank, almost bland. My partner had a pasta with a tomato source, which again was perfectly acceptable, but ordinary. I would hope for home made pasta in such a restaurant and price bracket and to taste the difference, but if it was house made, we were not advised.We were bothered by a couple of tiny flies throughout the meal that wouldn't go away, and we mentioned this to the waiter at the end of the meal, but to our surprise, he said ' yes we know, can't get rid of them, they have been here all summer'! That left me flabergasted. If it were my restaurant, I'd be on a mission! Other than that our waiter was perfectly friendly and attentive, and did a good job. Sorry San Marco, but you need to up your game if you want to compete. Get that EB menu sorted, get the flies by the tree in the corner sorted, and turn up the heating.

visting from work with overseas visitors, we had the most amazing evening. The food and wine was faultless and the service was second to none,although we did not book a table, the restaurant accomodated us on a very busy night. From chicken to lobster to steak to pasta, a table of 10 actually tried almost everything and we all agreed it was the best Italian in Manchester if not one of the best in the UK from our foreign friends. Highly recommended.
