Had a wonderful 3 courses before a gig at the Bridgewater Hall. Ordered from the set menu for 2 courses then added dessert. The place was rammed with people being turned away, so glad I booked. The staff were amazing even though 3 were new. The manager with his dulcet tones had it running like a well oiled machine. The food was equally as fabulous. We have been before and will be back again.

Lovely Restaurant but overpriced in our opinion We had 2 starters and both were really small. The mains were really expensive (don’t get me wrong, we knew the prices before we went and weren’t phased), but the food has to live up to the pricing. Extras had to be ordered with the steak which was £39, which we felt was a bit of a cheek to have to buy fries or another side, you basically got the steak with a sauce. The veg that came with was very old fashioned. Sliced carrots, some broccoli and green beans. Boiled. Not many of them. The steak was very well cooked, but again, not very big. The veal was chewy and the combo a bit odd. Chicken dish was nice…. Overall, the food was OK, we enjoyed it. But the price for what you got was waaaay over what it should have been in our opinion. But then that is personal choice/experience. The restaurant was very busy and a bit squished, but it had atmosphere. The staff were good, the food was relatively quick. Only complaint really is the food matching the pricing. I would recommend they improve on the offering and keep the pricing, or lower their prices. Plenty of other places close by that are better. Just in our opinion.

Had to send our meals back twice lasagne was cold in the middle asked if it was made fresh was told that morning yes. You can forgive errors with food but the worst part was the treatment from the staff afterwards. After the meal was returned a second time 4-5 mins later after nuking the food the manager and chef came out shoving prongs in the food saying we were lying. For the record the meals were sent back by my 65 and 67 year old parents. We had gone put for a family meal why on earth would they want to sit there and not eat by choice. The manager/ server then proceeded to tell my mum she didn't like the way she had looked at her and would like us to leave. We were gob smacked and tried to reason with her but she started to shout and cause a scene. Another member of staff came over who claimed to be the manager asking what had happened, while we tried to explain the same woman kept coming over to our table shouting in Italian and removing plates from us that we hadn't yet finished with demanding we pay the bill and leave. I asked the manager why he was allowing this behaviour from his staff to continue and he said he was in shock but yet still allowed the mistreatment to go on. Have never in my life experienced anything like it!! Avoid at all costs.

Visited Gio’s for the first time hoping to enjoy the pre-theatre menu advertised on the website. Arrived for our reserved table and told that the set menu was not available only a la carte. Whilst the food was very good, it was very expensive. San Carlo prices in a much more homely style restaurant. The lowest price bottle of white wine £29.50. If you have cash to splash, enjoy! If not, Riva Blu or Gino’s might be better value for your money.

A traditional Italian restaurant set in a prime location (opposite the Midland hotel) for which you will pay, through the nose. In common with the majority of Italian restaurants in Manchester centre, prices have been hiked up well past inflation, e.g. fileto rossini £39.00; a small plate of veg £ 6.50! Their food and the service is usually good, but at these prices simply not worth it. There are dozens of reasonably priced Asian and ethnic restaurants to choose from in Manchester- so fight food inflation with your feet.

As fans of Italy and Italian food, it seemed fitting to book Gio's for my partners birthday. We arrived on time and were taken to a lovely table in the corner with a window. The menu choice was varied, and I opted for a steak and my partner the spaghetti meatballs. The food was superb and not in the English sense of an Italian but in the Italian sense of an Italian. My partner declared it was the best Italian she'd eaten since we were in Taormina Sicily last year. The owner was all about the details, and the customer service was absolutely on point. I can't recommend this restaurant enough, the atmosphere was buzzing, the food was superb and the customer service was welcoming. It felt like a small family restaurant in the hills of Sicily. We booked ahead for a meal on a Sunday evening in November. We were greeted at the door and taken to our table. The menu and prices were all good. The food was served hot and was delicious. We were asked if everything was to our liking; it was. We had wine and coffee to complete the meal, which comprised starters and main courses but we were too full to manage a dessert. When the bill arrived we were told that tips were optional and there was no need to leave a tip if we were not entirely happy with everything. We left a 10% tip. Andreea served us and, at times, her male colleague who escorted us to the table also served us. Both members of staff were polite, friendly and helpful.

This restaurant is very obviously not capable of handling the customers it takes bookings from. We arrived an hour and 40 minutes before a concert nearby. We left an hour and 20 minutes later hungry and overlooked, our order not fulfilled. The few staff were horribly stressed, fighting fires everywhere. There was no leadership from the manager when WE discovered we would not be fed, and he fobbed us off with a "Go somewhere else". One waiter was genuinely upset and sympathetic about it all, poor soul. And the toilets were blocked and smelly. And they didn't bring us menus. The owners should be very ashamed of themselves. DON'T COME HERE.

This restaurant appears to have got even worse than described in the bad review we wish we had read before going for a pre-theatre dinner. They kept us waiting (no apology, no attention) for an hour and a half while we witnessed mounting chaos, only to be told rudely when we finally protested that we were going to be late for the show that they couldn't actually feed us, but could offer a dessert instead. The worst part is that it was the theatre itself (Bridgewater Hall) that had sent us there. It was an awful awful night - made worse still when we got to the theatre late and hungry, only to be told we couldn't go in late. We had travelled a long way for what we'd hoped would be a lovely birthday treat. Awful, awful, awful.

Sat watching others eat while the kitchen are shouting at one another is not my idea of a nice evening meal out - especially given the price (£350 for the 6 of us) Nothing offered in way of apology for this. After 1 year apart a meal was planned as a family get together. Gio’s is the place which we choose on each yearly reunion. This time we experienced drastic changes, glum staff/pushing half price cocktails which we hadn’t ordered. A sour faced manager who patrolled the restaurant, which on a Friday evening only had 3 tables of diners. We were asked numerous times how long the rest of our party would be as they were running late. We were being pushed to order before they had arrived, we were told to send them a screen shot of the menu so they could order before arriving… Then it was announced that we had better be quick as the kitchen would completely close at 10!! (Friday night!!) On the last 2 members of our dining party arriving our camaraderie was decimated, we skipped the first course, ordered the main course and started eating. It was observed that the ‘manager’ was still on patrol looking at his watch every five minutes. As the main meal was finished our plates were removed by the staff and all the cutlery, napkins and extra plates were also removed, so avoiding any possibility of ordering a desert. We had only had an hour all together as a party. The manager sat at the till pressuring me with piercing glances to get up and pay, which I did. All of us then heard a comment made behind our backs, about how much we had spent! We gathered outside in the cold to wait for taxis etc, Previously this restaurant was a happy experience with friendly staff who looked content with their work and colleagues. Laughter abounded. Not this time. The question was ‘had it changed hands?’ The receipt totalled £177.93 with added ‘service charge’ of £16.18. WHAT SERVICE? Please avoid this place, there are so many wonderful eateries in Manchester. The rest of our 5 day stay in Manchester had no incidences and we discovered amazing service and food. Wonderful city.

With so many fantastic places to eat in Manchester, service is what can set a restaurant apart from its competitors. So if you are seeking great service and a relaxing environment to have a late night family meal, I would suggest you don’t go to Gio’s. Unsure if the place is under new management but the waitresses looked positively ground down and struggled to muster the enthusiasm to offer a great level of service. When we arrived, our table wasn’t quite ready for us so a man, (who I assume was the manager) shouted at the waitress to ‘sort it out’. I could tell by this point the services wasn’t going to be as good as the previous times we had visited. The whole time we’re we’re there, our party were made to feel under pressure to hurry our meal, almost to the point of intimidation. We weren’t even given the option of a dessert. It was obvious the manager wanted to just count up his takings and close up for the night. Unsure if their automatically added service charge is calculated as a percentage of the bill but we unwittingly paid £16 on a total bill of £177+ between 6 people. We ended up leaving much earlier than intended and stood in the pouring rain just so we didn’t have to ‘inconvenience’ the manager with our presence any longer! I really don’t like to give bad reviews but I was so incensed by the way my family were made to feel during our visit to Gio’s that I want others to have an informed choice before choosing to dine at this restaurant.

Been here many times and always enjoyed the food and service. Tonight though was one of the worst experiences both my partner and I have had. The food was terrible. They seemed very short staffed and no one was checking what was coming out of the kitchen. The chicken wings in BBQ sauce was the warning that worst was to come. The sauce was bland with little taste, more like a weak gravy. Then the chicken risotto, over cooked and tasted burnt but yet cold, far too much salt and garlic, no parmesan cheese or black pepper offered. The spinich and cheese ravioli was more like a soup, watery and foul tasting, far too much salt and garlic and again, no parmesan cheese or black pepper offered. We couldn't eat the main courses. Complained to the waiter who informed us that no manager was in tonight, which I suppose may explain why food wasn't being checked properly before it left the kitchen. We paid for our overpriced wine and left. Maybe it was just a bad night but we won't be going back again.

Sal was a fantastic host, such a nice guy and the staff were so welcoming. Will definitely be back when returning to Manchester.

Dinner for myself and my partner in October. I ordered salmon, and my partner had the chicken milanese. Having seen the price of the salmon at £34.50 I was expecting something really special. The salmon was beautifully prepared and cooked but came with a side of boiled potatoes. The menu offered 'potatoes or fries and vegetables' to me that implied potatoes and vegetables, well for £34.50 of course that's what I expected. I wasn't asked what choice of potatoes and I probably would have chosen fries but I certainly expected vegetables. I had to ask for vegetables and was told it was a choice of potatoes or vegetables but they'd give me a selection as I'd asked. The menu stated AND vegetables so if that's not what you offer please make it clear. If you're going to charge £34.50 for a filet of salmon please make sure the experience warrants the price. Dessert was a tiramisu with ice cream which I didn't think was particularly 'home made'. Again a high price of £8.50 Overall OK food but certainly not worth the price especially when compared with better nearby restaurants like Don Giovani

Mediocre and over-priced. Minestrone soup had a thin stock base and no parmesan was offered. Penne portion was quite small and again parmesan had to be requested. Chicken breast was dry and tough. It was not a breast portion but pieces and looked as though it was processed.

Fantastic restaurant, modern and cosy with a great atmosphere. The staff are efficient and friendly and the food is fabulous. Sal and his team could not have been more friendly and welcoming. We went there 3 nights running on a long weekend in Manchester, I think that speaks for itself. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Not many people in May have been busy pre theatre. Staff were run ragged setting tables putting loads of glasses away etc. food not up to scratch. My fillet steak Diane was not a fillet steak by my standards.

We had the set menu, three courses for £27. The staff were friendly and surroundings pleasant and vibrant. The food was good as was the service however it was very inflated price wise. They then try to say that a £9 tip is suitable (odd as this is my choice). They got zero , the price hike ate it.

Very poor experience in this pizza restaurant, after waiting 30 mins when it was very quiet, we assumed our food would be fresh and worth the wait, very disappointed when we brought it back to our hotel beside it, crispy potatoes were soggy and clumped together so some were still Ice cold, pizza base was thiner than a wrap not cut properly and all the toppings just slide off as it was so thin it was breaking. Chicken portion was 3 pieces and mozzarella sticks was small aswel, would not recommend anyone waste there money here as it was expensive, and by far the worst pizza I have ever had. Should of known by how quiet it was.

Never had any onions for the pizza that I ordered then ordered a drink from the menu not in stock it seemed everything I ordered was out of stock. Service was poor asked several times for a drink only to be ignored.
