Gio's Ristorante in Manchester

The food was poor especially the garlic bread and also left us with bad stomachs, the servers were very shy and were overall not great the worst for me was that when I was charged twice due to an issue with there card reader the manager didn’t offer me a merchants copy of the receipt leaving me paying over a hundred pounds for a extremely subpar 2 courses I would avoid at all costs

There is a store that I pass by every day when I go shopping. Every time I pass by, I am shocked by the number of people in this store. When passing by, everyone would say that they must come to eat next time, so my boyfriend and I finally came to this store. The most amazing thing for me is the Carbonara pasta. The creamy sauce has a very unique flavor. When combined with the crispy bacon on top, it leaves a fragrant aroma on your lips and teeth. Tiramisu is one of the best Italian restaurants I've eaten at in Manchester City. My boyfriend's risotto is also very delicious, especially suitable for Chinese tastes. The soup and chicken wings are average, but you can try them. Overall, it was a very unforgettable meal😍😗

The waiters' organization was crazy, we were only able to order something to eat after asking because the first colleague can only take drinks. Cappuccino is a soup. Pizza is great if you have enough time and patience.

Food overpriced, everything tasted very different to how it should, in a bad way (if you're going to try and improvise on classics, maybe understand the basics first). Bad experience and the garlic bread was terrible, but the servers were very polite. Would NOT come again.

What is the point of online booking when the confirmation is not sent via the method stated. Waited for SMS to come, not email, tried to phone but not answered! So went elsewhere for a sandwich before a concert. Returned later in the evening after the concert as a walk in. Excellent, attentive service with good food. Shame about the booking problems earlier.

Best bolognese I've had! The noodles with the carbonara were undercooked and we got it remade only for the noodles to still be undercooked but not as much. Other than that one minor inconvenience, the overall atmosphere and experience was a good one. Would still recommend to others 👍

The owner and Manager is a very professional gentleman and certainly knows how to run a top establishment like Gio's I had a small issue which has been dealt with in a very professional way. 5 star service Will 100% be going back

Food was microwaved and definitely not ‘homemade’ as it states on the menu; overpriced is an understatement. This place is a tourist trap for those visiting Manchester for an event. Waiters who brought the food were lovely but the manager type figure pressured us into a tip saying ‘service isn’t included, are you going to add one?’ after we had wrong extras on our bill and had to ask for everything after being ignored more of the night.

Went here for Christmas Eve while restaurants were closing, Gio was willing to keep his doors open. The staff was friendly and the food amazing. Cause I needed brown pasta, they bought it for me. The carbonara was delicious and the garlic bread you must try as a starter. The interior is cosy and romantic. If you are in Manchester, you must try this Italian!

Lovely restaurant, delicious food, perfect combination

Ten of us went from work on a lunchtime mid week without a booking and was looked after very well. Food and service were of a high standard, and the overall experience was good value for money. Catered for gluten-free, vegan, and I think Halal. Overall, we all enjoyed the visit.

A lovely restaurant with some excellent food, obviously Italian. Everything we had was delicious and reasonably priced. The restaurant was super busy and attracts a pre-Theatre crowd so earlier or later is better, and arriving at 7pm (even with a booking) was a a bit disorganised with so many tables changing over - but by 7.30 everything was ok, so maybe come or book for 7.30. Great service on top of the excellent food.

Great little spot 👌 brilliant atmosphere and the food was absolutely amazing i got the calzone have to say it was the nicest one I've ever tasted..the wife and kids got pizza that was 10/10 aswell the portion sizes were very generous aswell. The staff were so friendly and very accommodating

Food was cold and tasteless! Restaurant was really busy with theatre goers, not enough staff on. Won't be coming again! Such a shame as its in an excellent location.

Just enjoyed a delicious meal this evening at the restaurant to celebrate my husband's birthday. The service was very good. We were looked after by 2 attentive waiters and were given an ice cream on the house as they knew we were there for a birthday. Lovely evening. Thank you very much.

It was extremely busy when we were there, and we had a slight wait to order, but the food came quickly and was delicious. It is a small space so it is quite noisy, but that makes it a good experience.

Lovely meal this evening at Gio’s. Very attentive staff and gregarious owner. Staff turned the whole restaurant round from pre-theatre to evening covers in the blink of an eye! Food was delicious, highly recommended 😊

Had a wonderful 3 courses before a gig at the Bridgewater Hall. Ordered from the set menu for 2 courses then added dessert. The place was rammed with people being turned away, so glad I booked. The staff were amazing even though 3 were new. The manager with his dulcet tones had it running like a well oiled machine. The food was equally as fabulous. We have been before and will be back again.

Lovely Restaurant but overpriced in our opinion We had 2 starters and both were really small. The mains were really expensive (don’t get me wrong, we knew the prices before we went and weren’t phased), but the food has to live up to the pricing. Extras had to be ordered with the steak which was £39, which we felt was a bit of a cheek to have to buy fries or another side, you basically got the steak with a sauce. The veg that came with was very old fashioned. Sliced carrots, some broccoli and green beans. Boiled. Not many of them. The steak was very well cooked, but again, not very big. The veal was chewy and the combo a bit odd. Chicken dish was nice…. Overall, the food was OK, we enjoyed it. But the price for what you got was waaaay over what it should have been in our opinion. But then that is personal choice/experience. The restaurant was very busy and a bit squished, but it had atmosphere. The staff were good, the food was relatively quick. Only complaint really is the food matching the pricing. I would recommend they improve on the offering and keep the pricing, or lower their prices. Plenty of other places close by that are better. Just in our opinion.

We had a trip to Manchester museum and followed it with a really good meal here. Very impressed, food was very very good. Service excellent, staff all very friendly and a really good ambience. Couldn't have been bettered. Great day. We are definitely returning.

We came in on Saturday and it was great :) special thank you to the lovely blonde waitress (sorry, didn’t get your name!) who was super helpful and kind when my dad was having some trouble with his blood sugars as a diabetic, we appreciated it a lot. Would 10/10 recommend!

Attended with an old school friend yesterday. Food delightful, service excellent then closed for afternoon at 2 pm but didn't hurry us. Definitely be back on next visit to Manchester.

A little pricey for us , but excellent service and food quality. We noted the use of top quality ingredients. This was actually one of the best margarita pizza's I have eaten.

Second time eaten here, the garlic bread with tomato is superb, two of us had Cannelloni which was fantastic all washed down with a nice bottle of wine

Had to send our meals back twice lasagne was cold in the middle asked if it was made fresh was told that morning yes. You can forgive errors with food but the worst part was the treatment from the staff afterwards. After the meal was returned a second time 4-5 mins later after nuking the food the manager and chef came out shoving prongs in the food saying we were lying. For the record the meals were sent back by my 65 and 67 year old parents. We had gone put for a family meal why on earth would they want to sit there and not eat by choice. The manager/ server then proceeded to tell my mum she didn't like the way she had looked at her and would like us to leave. We were gob smacked and tried to reason with her but she started to shout and cause a scene. Another member of staff came over who claimed to be the manager asking what had happened, while we tried to explain the same woman kept coming over to our table shouting in Italian and removing plates from us that we hadn't yet finished with demanding we pay the bill and leave. I asked the manager why he was allowing this behaviour from his staff to continue and he said he was in shock but yet still allowed the mistreatment to go on. Have never in my life experienced anything like it!! Avoid at all costs.

I came on 3 consecutive nights this week whilst having a short break in Manchester and am so pleased that I did. Dining on your own can sometimes be an uncomfortable experience but not in Gio's. The welcome there is warm and genuine, the staff are really friendly and the food is delicious.

Visited Gio’s for the first time hoping to enjoy the pre-theatre menu advertised on the website. Arrived for our reserved table and told that the set menu was not available only a la carte. Whilst the food was very good, it was very expensive. San Carlo prices in a much more homely style restaurant. The lowest price bottle of white wine £29.50. If you have cash to splash, enjoy! If not, Riva Blu or Gino’s might be better value for your money.

Stumbled across this place randomly, the Manager was fantastic and the staff were equally as brilliant. Personable service plus fantastic food! We also got a free Prosecco & Garlic bread (for a proven graduation). Not expected but it was delicious! Great quality!

A traditional Italian restaurant set in a prime location (opposite the Midland hotel) for which you will pay, through the nose. In common with the majority of Italian restaurants in Manchester centre, prices have been hiked up well past inflation, e.g. fileto rossini £39.00; a small plate of veg £ 6.50! Their food and the service is usually good, but at these prices simply not worth it. There are dozens of reasonably priced Asian and ethnic restaurants to choose from in Manchester- so fight food inflation with your feet.

Myself and Two friends went to Gio’s last. We all had different types of pasta but all agreed that they were the best pastas ever. Plus…. The staff were excellent, attentive, polite without being overpowering. Credit where credit is due. Next time I’m in Manchester you will see us all in Gio’s Thank you guys 😊

Forgot to write this review at the time, but we visited on 18/5/24 and we're served by Randall and Abbi. We had the calamari followed by the penne arrabiata and both were amazing. The staff went above and beyond to make sure the venue was accessible with a wheelchair and the level of service was impeccable - the right amount of care without being overbearing. We went late afternoon, it was a little quieter when we were in but the atmosphere was still great and we will be visiting again!

As fans of Italy and Italian food, it seemed fitting to book Gio's for my partners birthday. We arrived on time and were taken to a lovely table in the corner with a window. The menu choice was varied, and I opted for a steak and my partner the spaghetti meatballs. The food was superb and not in the English sense of an Italian but in the Italian sense of an Italian. My partner declared it was the best Italian she'd eaten since we were in Taormina Sicily last year. The owner was all about the details, and the customer service was absolutely on point. I can't recommend this restaurant enough, the atmosphere was buzzing, the food was superb and the customer service was welcoming. It felt like a small family restaurant in the hills of Sicily. Thanks to Thermios and the team for a wonderful experience.

Great food, brilliant staff! Lovely wine and the owner Theme (not sure if I’ve spelt it right 😂) was brilliant, we ate at a busy evening session but the atmosphere was great! Lemon cello on the house to finish is a lovely touch, will definitely be going again!

Fantastic experience from start to finish. Was very busy when we arrived and we did not have a booking but luckily with only a few minutes, we two were given a table. The Maitre d' organised everything with military precision and first class customer service. Every member of staff was attentive and responsive. The food was divine, from starter through to main and dessert...10/10 would recommend

A wonderful restaurant, we enjoyed it so much we've booked again for another night. The food was well served and piping hot. Our party of six, all received their meals at the same time, and we never felt rushed throughout the whole evening. Nothing was too much trouble for our waitress Andreea, she was extremely pleasant, and was very knowledgeable about the meals.

No attention to detail. Little stock from the red wine list which we chose. Steak undercooked when we asked otherwise. No offer to correct mistakes makes you feel under valued as a customer. Pizza not great.

Lovely restaurant. Food very good, a varied menu, easily accessible via the Metro Link. Usual City Centre prices, but the atmosphere and Service was excellent. I found it difficult to find somewhere to park. Will take the Metro next time. Very handy for the Bridgewater Hall, a 3 minute walk. Going again early next month.

Brilliant Place, staff very attentive. You could dress up a bit and feel comfortable here. Food & drink were fresh and well displayed. Hygiene was excellent.

Don't expect this restaurant to honour your booking. They turned us away after I'd booked weeks in advance. I had picked this restaurant as my 90 year old father can't walk far. They turned us away with no apology or explanation. I am absolutely disgusted by this treatment of customers.

We arrived for a late lunch on a rainy day. We were welcomed and shown to our table. Food and drinks ordered and arrived in quick time. Service was excellent and jovial. As we were late starting lunch, we ended up being the last table left in the restaurant. Never once was there any indication from the staff for us to hurry up and leave. We all felt so comfortable during our meal and have no trouble in giving this restaurant my highest recommendation.

Absolute perfect. Had booked pizza express but on arrival told couldn't seat us for at least another 45 minutes despite booking. What lick as this restaurant sat us and was an absolute gem. Proper old style Italian cooking and flavours and modern decor.

This restaurant is our favourite Italian and we have never had a bad meal. The food is amazing especially the steaks which just melt in your mouth. Special shout out to Andrea who is just the best waitress snd totally attentive to your needs. Try this restaurant and I promise you that you will not be disappointed. We will be back !!!!

This place makes you very welcome with friendly service from the moment you walk through the door. We enjoyed three lovely meals over three days whilst visiting Manchester and received impecable service from all staff, especially Andreea.

Good Italian Restaurant and handy for the Bridgewater Hall

We booked ahead for a meal on a Sunday evening in November. We were greeted at the door and taken to our table. The menu and prices were all good. The food was served hot and was delicious. We were asked if everything was to our liking; it was. We had wine and coffee to complete the meal, which comprised starters and main courses but we were too full to manage a dessert. When the bill arrived we were told that tips were optional and there was no need to leave a tip if we were not entirely happy with everything. We left a 10% tip. Andreea served us and, at times, her male colleague who escorted us to the table also served us. Both members of staff were polite, friendly and helpful.
