San Giorgio Oakham in Rutland

Nice evening but very Disappointed with the food. Starters were very over priced for what they were we laughed which isn’t good… Lasagne was many layers of pasta with so little sauce it made it heavy and dry . Salads were minimal effort and nothing special at all making them overpriced too. Pizza looked good and the atmosphere is great. Didn’t complain as the chap who is front of house is good and makes a welcome atmosphere but certainly wouldn’t bother again. Shame it could be so much better

We were visiting Oakham recently and chose this restaurant for no particular reason but are really glad that we did. The food was great and the service exceptional - beyond friendly, definitely going the extra mile which made the whole evening one to highly recommend. If we're ever back in Oakham, we will most definitely be returning.

We booked to have dinner on Friday evening & were glad we had done that as the owner had to turn away people who hadn't booked as the place isn't huge. We had salad caprese & mussels as starters, penne arrabbiata & gnocchi main courses and finished with ice cream with frangelico. Great meal, entertaining owner, good service.

We have enjoyed San Giorgio on may occasions and our dinner on Wednesday was another excellent experience. Lello & Josh looked after us superbly and the kitchen supplied super tasty food. Thank you for a great meal.

Once again excellent service, food is always exceptional the chef is something special, Lello the owner is very welcoming and always a laugh thrives on his customer, josh his waiter is brilliant. We love our little Italian restaurant. Please give it a go you will not be dissapointed.

Over priced, over cooked, tasteless, badly presented steak dish. No apology when pointed out not cooked as ordered. Very offhand staff. Never again.

We have not visited San Giorgio for a while and it was a last minute decision to have lunch there today and as usual we had a very pleasant experience with super friendly service from Lello and super tasty food from the kitchen team. My companions enjoyed two different pizzas and (as I am avoiding bread and pasta at the moment) I opted for the mussels followed by Parma ham and melon. All super tasty and beautifully presented. Excellent lunch. We will be back soon.

This was my worst dinner out I’ve ever had, for starter I had calamari, it could’ve been fitted to my car as a new set of wheels it was that rubbery, the main was far from sea scallops and king prawns in shallot sauce with asparagus, the sea scallops resembled an anaemic shrunken marshmallow and 3 prawns that had been bashed around the block a few times with the waste ends of 3 asparagus tips you wouldn’t serve to your dinner guests as it would’ve been embarrassing, the shallot sauce was just sat in the bottom of the giant bowl it was served in like a sad puddle of brown water. Don’t bother with this place you’d be quids up and a lot less frustrated than I am by getting an Italian microwave meal for one.

Have been here many times and absolutely love it. Very chilled and great atmosphere, a nice authentic Italian vibe. The food is always great and the owner is very friendly. Recommend the ‘San Giorgio’ pizza and the seafood linguine. It’s very small so you need to book if you’re trying to go on a weekend or they will not have space.

We had a lovely meal with two friends who weee enjoying their first evening meal at San Giorgio. As usual friendly smiley service from Lello and excellent food and wine enjoyed. It’s not just the food it’s an experience. Go and enjoy!!

Staying in the area for a few days and didn't know anything about the place. Found this on Google, and to say it's a quiet sleepy town during the day this restaurant was buzzing at 7pm. We were lucky enough to get a table, and during the next hour and a half there was an constant stream of customers, many of whom it seemed were regulars. Gorgeous food, great service and a lovely atmosphere. Highly recommend if you find yourself in Oakham.

The atmosphere in this restaurant is lovely, and the staff are very nice. I’m really disappointed to say that the food is below average/average at best. The starters are a bit stuck in the 80s and basic. I genuinely believe I could have made better at home and I am not a great cook! For £12.95 I expected the 6 pieces of calamari to be the best I’d ever tasted (it literally cost more than my main!) but was very disappointed. Why are the starters so expensive? Many of them are more expensive than the main meals. The mains were the best bit of the meal but sadly nothing amazing. The pudding was tasty but again, stuck in the 80s and required a chisel to break up the cheesecake base. I sent the coffee back as it was like weak milky water. Genuinely sad to leave having had to pay so much for an average/below average meal. Nothing I would specifically complain about (except the coffee), it was just really underwhelming and overpriced.

Such a fun place to meet and eat. Went there with my Italian class, and the owner & his team were very welcoming, and was happy to happy to encourage our speaking Italian when ordering food and chatting to his team. Good light atmosphere, with very good original Italian dishes. A real pleasure

I went in at 6.30 on a Friday night. I was met by friendly and efficient staff. It was already starting to get busy. Both my starter and main course were delicious and beautifully cooked. The house red wine was a delight as was the double espresso to finish. I would thoroughly recommend.

A lovely Italian restaurant, with a warm and with welcome from Raffaele, great food - the usual Italian dishes plus some less usual ones such as their excellent fillet steak wrapped in pancetta and with mushroom sauce, a great antipasti plate and brilliant tiramisu to finish! Highly recommended!

Had not booked, was greeted with negativity - have you booked a table - then given a table and ignored - so we walked out, maybe it was because we were not locals, also menu was very overpriced for a basic cafe type feel.

We called in on spec, we hadn’t booked, but we’re looked after in an efficient and friendly manner. The restaurant had a nice feel and atmosphere about it, and service was good, but not great, hence the 4 stars. The food was excellent, I had the seafood pasta and my wife had a pizza. Went to San Giorgio last night for a meal, the food was amazing and the atmosphere very enjoyable. The two waitresses were very friendly and made us feel extremely comfortable. Horrible experience- at least for their take away service. The person who manages this restaurant (at least I assume he is the manager/ boss/ owner) is an incredibly rude man. Rude on the phone, rude to his female staff, appearing stressed and angry and generally unpleasant. It’s possible that he is more friendly for sit-in but definitely not for take away ordering or collection. Very off putting. Terrible customer service, steer well clear!

Having already spent 2 of a 7 night stay around the Oakham area we had been a little disappointed with the quality of the Restaurants we had used. Well The San George Restaurante changed all that. We booked for a Tuesday night without any problem despite the Restaurant being full during the evening. Absolutely delicious food, house red exceptional and service very good. We plan to return before we leave.

All the exuberance and joy from life that you would wish for from a classic Neapolitan Restaurant. From the welcome to the drinks to the food it made us forget about the storms outside and really enjoy a long lunch. Highlights include the bruschetta, scallops, pizzas, a proper carbonara, superb pudds and authentic espresso. The wines were also very good value and high quality.

Booking is essential, skeletal staff, service could be better. The waiter friendly and helpful. Food served was very good & tasty. Service could be better but social distancing could be the reason for fewer staff. The waiter was wearing a face mask.

I visited here for lunch today with my youngest (age 9), and we both had an absolutely amazing meal.My Son had Pizza, which he described as 'the best pizza ever!!'I had Tagliatelle Verde followed by Mille Foglie for desert ... both were superb!! From start to finish this restaurant was great. The manager really looked after us and was the right kind of attentive. Not overly fussy, just making sure our food was exceptional (which it was) all three courses were without fault. Lovely place for a romantic evening out with the beetwr half. You will not be disappointed.
