San Giorgio Restaurant in Rutland

We had an absolutely delicious meal tonight! We have wanted to visit on many occasions and it’s just never happened, well we’re SO GLAD it did tonight!! Everything was perfect and Rafael made us feel so comfortable and welcome. For starters, we had a tomato & mozzarella salad, garlic bread and scallops, and for mains we ordered the lasagne and finished with an incredible tiramisu. We definitely can’t forget the most delicious chilli oil ever which was topped up on several ocassion nicely! We can’t wait to return, all staff were very attentive, thank you to all who served us. Had a delicious meal here on a Saturday evening. Nice atmosphere, busy but not too noisy. The food was tasty and staff were lovely!

The four of us had a very enjoyable evening here. The owner/ waiters were very friendly and attentive. The food was delicious from start to finish especially the scallop and king prawn main course. Lovely atmosphere on a Friday evening too.

Four of us had a lovely meal here last night. Food was delicious, service was great, and lovely stmosphere in restaurant. Chicken dishes were really tasty, and the tiramisu,, some of the tastiest we have had. We will definitely be back, and would highly recommend. Thank you

The host amazingly found us a table although we hadn’t booked which is a most important thing to do to be guaranteed a table. Very helpful and hospitable food was delicious and delivered hot without much waiting

Had a great meal last night. As always the pasta was excellent and we really enjoyed the antipasto to start. Staff were very attentive and helpful.

We went here for wife's birthday, had a table booked and thought it would be nice. We never not once was offered any table water, just the crazy expensive drinks list. Then a bread stick in a packet arrived, after waiting for our starters they came, calamari... again not fresh but possibly from a packet. The calzone came, well the pastry did and the 3 pieces of pepperoni inside with tomato sauce and a tiny piece of cheese which was bland.. The price being charged does not reflect in my opinion the quality of the service and food being served, we shall not be going back.The reviews say otherwise that's why we booked, maybe it was a bad night, but it was also not busy.

Delicious penne salmone !! Carbonara was good but could have done with a richer sauce ( a bit bland) Service was exceptional . Will definitely go back .

An excellent find having been to the wool shop nearby. The host is perfect company and the range of dishes puts many Italian restaurants to shame.

What more can I say...it was delicious! We had olives, pasta and then got tempted by dessert!

Delicious authentic Italian food, extremely fresh delicious sauces and great pasta. Reasonable (for oakham!) prices. The owner Rafaele has a playful and extremely sarcastic sense of humour, which we absolutely loved, but may not be to everyone's taste, and explains a lot of the negative reviews this restaurant has. It will be very marmite so BE WARNED! They also have a very small kitchen and make everything fresh so have a limited serving capacity. I would recommend you book as they will turn you away at the door even if there are spare tables. We had a lovely time and they even opened a little earlier to accommodate us on a busy night. I can still taste the utterly delicious seafood sauce which was divine!

Terrible service. Dined in yesterday night and were shocked at the service we received. They told us we weren’t allowed our appetiser (garlic bread) with our mains as sharing sides (we have never been told no to this before elsewhere). The man serving us then told one of us to get off our phone when just talking between us. We thought he was joking but he didn’t say anything after and walked away making us feel very uncomfortable. He came over and removed our mains when one of us hadn’t finished our food and told someone else to eat it for them. He then told us that we wanted us to leave even though we had not finished our meal and had time left on our reservation. Very disappointed with the service and will not be returning.

Friendly front of house and delicious food, you will not be disappointed truly Italian feel. I am French and love my food so refreshing to have such a restaurant on my doorstep 😉.

Well located town centre restaurant with reasonable food. However, our party of 4 experienced exceptionally rude waiter/owner who did not seem to care about our specific queries and requirements. Most of our simple requests were met with sarcastic comments. The waiter then had temerity to slap on a service charge which was not paid. Will not go there again.

Excellent pizza and wine, kitchen was about to close when we arrived but we were welcomed and enjoyed a lovely meal.

Website said open Monday. Not open. Tried to book Tuesday. No answer. Popped in when opened. Kids looking forward to good food. Asked in a friendly manner. Are you booked or can you seat 8. Met with arrogance. No I can't cook for 8. "Are you booked" No just 8 is a lot. Place has one other couple in it. The lady who worked there laughed nervously embarrassed at the arrogant way we were denied. Avoid.

Cannot rate this place high enough. For me the best meal in rutland. Great food & wine topped off with perfect hospitality.

We visited San Giorgio over a busy weekend when Global Birdfair was taking place in Oakham, taking our team of 10 to the restaurant. Despite the restaurant being packed, throughout the evening Raffaele and his team really looked after us, and everyone had a great time – the food was also fantastic. I’d highly recommend and hopefully we’ll be back in the future when we’re at another Birdfair!

Absolutely amazing restaurant, great staff, authentic Italian food and excellent value money.

I went in at 6.30 on a Friday night. I was met by friendly and efficient staff. It was already starting to get busy. Both my starter and main course were delicious and beautifully cooked. The house red wine was a delight as was the double espresso to finish. I would thoroughly recommend.

We're in Oakham for a three week holiday and this is definitely the best restaurant we've been to. The food was amazing - well prepared and presented, very tasty, just the right portion sizes. The staff were very attentive, the floor manager has a personality all his own! Atmosphere was a little on the noisy side but I generally expect that at an Italian restaurant. We were a party of three, without a reservation, and we were all very impressed.

I’ve eaten in a few Italian restaurants, both here in the UK & along the Amalfi Coast in Italy. The food here was poor & over-priced & the young girl who served us forgot to bring us the starter we had ordered to share. This was a special occasion fir my wife’s birthday & left me disappointed. The staff were lovely & friendly but the food wash certainly nothing special & was far too expensive for food that was barely average & very small portions.

Had my birthday meal there, a first visit. Family feel. Delicious food. Well run. Not a cheap night out but memorable and authentic Italian.

Wow. This was really disappointing. Personally my dish was nice, but it’s the most unwelcome I’ve ever felt in a restaurant. We were a group of 10 adults and 2 young children, we booked 2 weeks in advance and had the super early booking time of 5:30 (because of the children). We pre-booked mains, and were told we could order starters on the night. I couldn’t tell if Rafael, the main server, was trying to be humorous or if he was just plain rude. Instantly rushing us, asking why our party wasn’t all here (trying to find parking) 10mins into our booked time, we were missing 2 chair / places, he avoided understanding this and bringing the extra seating, even though he knows how many mains we’ve pre-ordered. All his comments made me instantly feel like he resented us being there. As soon as we were all in he said our mains were ready to come out, no opportunity to order starters, seemed annoyed at people ordering drinks, when someone asked if there was Parmesan he replied you already asked me twice - I certainly didn’t hear him ask. Two people ordered the grilled chicken main, the menu says it comes with either seasonal vegetables or fries - both came with a plain piece of chicken with a very small salad garnish. They waited a while, eventually I asked if the dish came with anything else - he practically shouted over that they hadn’t asked for anything…. Even though the menu says it comes with it. Who orders dry plain chicken with nothing else?? He might have been trying to be funny, but it was very awkward and uncomfortable, very unpleasant, and we couldn’t wait to leave. I noticed smaller tables of couples who arrived after us weren’t subjected to his “personality”, so I’m sure if you just came for the food and had none of the attitude, you might indeed leave a lovely review. We left as quickly as we could, which is a shame as we were having a family meet up, living several hours away from each other. Had the experience been nicer we would have got starters, desserts, more drinks. As it was we ate our mains, finished our drinks, and left. If your restaurant can’t handle larger groups - don’t accept the booking!! It’s not hard.

Food was brilliant. Service was amazing as well. Good value for money too. Will be back again in the future.

We went for dinner on valentines day, a warm welcome and then the food, was really tasty. My wife had a cocktail as well a cosmopolitan which she said was strong and perfect. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

We love it here because we are treated like family. The food is always fresh, well balanced and tasty. 'The Boss' provides a level of entertainment that makes the atmosphere fun for the monsters (kids) that seem to follow my wife and l when we nip out.

Really lovely place. The host was amazing, joking around with my parents and making us feel very welcome. Food was really lovely too, had a mixture of pasta and pizza on our table and all had good reviews. Can't wait to go back

Went here as part of a large party celebrating a friend's birthday. We had to pre-order our main course (starter and dessert were fixed choice) but we had ordered pork fillet and were served veal which is not something we would have chosen ourselves.

The food is nice but it was disorganised with drinks forgotten, bill wrong and dirty desert menu.

Nice little Italian restaurant. Owner works very hard to keep his customers happy.

Amazing restaurant with phenomenal food the best Italian food my partner and I have had and we've been to Italy. The gentleman serving us was very nice and completed the experience for us with his enthusiasm and outgoing personality making this restaurant a fast favourite. Well worth the 250 miles we drove before finding this restaurant 1000% would recommend and go again there's a reason this place has solid reviews

Went on a recommendation from someone,wish I hadn't bothered I had scallops for starter,they were minute,over cooked &gritty,when Rafael asked how were they I told him &he said they couldn't have been because that's how they come!I did ask him if he was calling me a liar from that point he avoided us,then main course monkfish (yuk) tiny pieces which all still had the sineau in it another packet!! We didn't touch it irony was there was a fresh fish van on at the market yesterday which they could have used,this place to me seems if you eat pizza &pasta it's ok by reviews but anyone can cook that,this was a terrible experience we paid for what we had starters,& prosecco (all well overpriced)!!&left &had a lovely meal somewhere else!! This place is all show but needs to concentrate on quality!!

Love this restaurant, fabulous food & great service (most important factor when eating out in my eyes) but you also get a great atmosphere + great value, what makes the whole experience very special is the owner, very welcoming, attentive and wonderfull banter... Try it it you won't regret it..

Four dinners that as Italians fully satisfied us. Very nice manager, even a little folkloristic, really well prepared cuisine.

We managed to get a table at short notice, the staff where so accommodating. Amazing authentic Italian food, great service and clean fresh surroundings. Recently enjoyed a great meal with friends and my wife. Highly recommended and the Lasagne was one of the best I have had at a restaurant in years.

Saturday lunch, 4 of us (two of us that arrived late!). Fantastic food, beautiful wine and brilliant, efficient, relaxed, friendly hosts. The menu should cover all tastes, even though my meal was superb - I felt slightly jealous of the other 3 main meals, which I wasn't allowed to touch (apparently :) ) I would heartily recommend a visit to the San Giorgio, as long as you leave space for me!

I can't comment about the food, I really wish I could.. My 1 star and trust me it would be zero star if I could is for there customer service when trying to book a table. Phone rings constantly, I then emailed and eventually got a reply saying they were fully booked. So I replied asking for a table the next night... No response!! In my mind they don't deserve customers....I gave my time up to try and book they should at least reply...so avoid and try make them work harder for their customers.

Very tasty food, but long waiting for any attention.

Sat 8.15pm table booked but unable to be seated until 8.35, had to wait until someone left. Not as bad as it sounds... it was a pleasant wait, with staff being very apologetic. Once seated and our food arrived... it was divine. Really really good.. I had the sea-scallops for starters and the Linguine, both dishes were superb. We will definitely visit San Giorgio in the future . I knocked a star off because of the wait.

We have eaten there about 4 - 5 times and it has always been a real treat.

Horrible experience- at least for their take away service. The person who manages this restaurant (at least I assume he is the manager/ boss/ owner) is an incredibly rude man. Rude on the phone, rude to his female staff, appearing stressed and angry and generally unpleasant. It’s possible that he is more friendly for sit-in but definitely not for take away ordering or collection. Very off putting. Terrible customer service, steer well clear!

Good food, friendly hosts, clean restaurant. First time we've been to a restaurant in 6 months and we weren't disappointed.
