San Chiu Dim in City of London, Westminster

Went last night for a catch up with friends. Ordered meal set b for 2 and meal set v for 2. Outstanding food with perfect portion size. Jean was super friendly and welcoming, as was the rest of the team! Highly recommend and worth booking in advance as it was busy throughout the evening!

Not a great experience at all, my stomach still hurts, I don't understand people who write "excellent cuisine" don't they have a palate? Starter filled with water, bland, the dishes don't even mention it, the word spices must be similar to that of Voldemort and should not be said in the kitchen because there is absolutely none. It's bland my god. The dish ordered is definitely not the same served, full of fat, no meat as written on the description, no honestly didn't go there, there are many restaurants in the area and they can't be worse.

I’ve been here a few times before and I enjoyed it immensely as a child and I’ve recently come back as an adult to purchase Crab (ginger and spring onion) for my family. I cannot express how warm and welcoming the reception was and how quick and accommodating they all were. Everything was outstanding and I fully recommend.

Super packed, managed to squeeze three of us in without a reservation in under five minutes! Good and really fast service and food was steaming hot.

Nice Chinese food, good for a casual dinner out

The only positive was that the food tasted okay. Like a lot of other reviews mention they tried to pressure into giving a tip on top of the service charge that is automatically applied. To top it off, the Ho Fun noodles gave my friend food poisoning to the point where he was being sick that same night.

I've been eating fancy meals every day in London, but there are very few vegetables. My companion said he wanted to eat vegetables. London's Chinatown is located in the center of the city, small, and not dirty. If you want to eat Chinese food, where should you eat it? There are a few shops that are trying to attract customers, but let's avoid such shops. I had a bad experience in San Francisco a long time ago. This Chinese restaurant is famous for having the worst service in London. However, this place only accepts cash. While walking around and looking at the menu, I somehow decided on this place. The first floor was full, but we were seated on the second floor. A clean and comfortable shop. First, tea, jasmine tea. Cold jellyfish. Steamed shrimp dumplings. Stir-fried Chinese vegetables. My companion said he wanted vegetables, but after looking at the menu he changed his mind and ordered a Chinese BBQ mix, along with a Chinese beer. And special fried rice. At British restaurants, the seasoning is simple, probably because they value the ingredients. So you won't feel heavy after eating. All were extremely delicious. 81£ The service staff isn't bad either.

Super quick service and great food! The Peking duck was pretty spectacular, chicken & salted fish fried rice was really tasty too. Ice lemon tea was super refreshing and tastes just like how it’s made in Southeast Asia.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at San Chiu Dim, and I can definitely say it was one of the best Chinese food experiences I’ve ever had! From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted by the owner, Michael, and his amazing staff. Their hospitality was top-notch, making us feel truly welcome and well taken care of. The food was amazing! Every bite was fresh, flavorful and made with care. Michael and his team went above and beyond to make sure we had an unforgettable dining experience. Their kindness and attention to detail truly set this place apart. If you’re looking for amazing Chinese food and exceptional service, San Chiu Dim is the place to go! We’ll definitely be coming back!

Made a quick online dim sum order after a show in the area and despite it being close to close, they were friendly and welcoming. The dim sum were delicious, especially the soup dumplings, and ready super fast. Definitely recommend.

I highly recommend the stir fried Ho fun beef noodles with black bean sauce : simply DELICIOUS. Dumplings were ok. The music however was a bit loud and very "old school romantic". Part of the experience I guess.

Delicious food and great staff ✨️

The dim sum was quite nice. 4 dimsum was definitely too much food for one person. They were reasonably priced. Really liked the Ha Gaw. The prawn inside was big and juicy. Lo bak Go (turnip cake) was fried really nicely. However, I don't believe it was made in-house based on how much rice flour was used in the cake. Char Siu pastry can be a bit better. It was likely due to the fact that I ordered it at 8:30pm, so it was not freshly out of the oven. Can definitely benefit from more char siu filling, though. The deep-fried custard buns were definitely fried to order. They were piping hot when served. They tasted how they should be. The service was not bad. They were happy to make recommendations on what's good. Overall, it's a nice place to have dim sum late evening.

We very much enjoyed our meal at this restaurant. The food was delicious and the service was prompt and all of the staff very friendly. They seemed to take dietary/allergy concerns very seriously. Happy to recommend this restaurant.

New to San Chiu Dim. We enjoyed some tasty dim sum - pork har gow, prawn sui mai, prawn cheung fan, beef balls and Vietnamese spring rolls. My son enjoyed tender slices of beef in black bean sauce and fried rice. The roast belly pork had a lovely salty and crispy skin. The only disappointment was the beef brisket and ho fun in soup and wonton noodles which were a little tasteless however that hasn't put us off from returning. Lovely welcoming staff.

Went here for a birthday dinner party of 12. Originally booked for 10 people they were kind enough to accommodate the extra 2 people last minute. The food was very nice. Most of us opted for the set menu b. Everything was well seasoned and tasted beautiful. The portions we very generous and we all left very full and satisfied. China town can be overwhelming with choices for Chinese restaurants so I would highly recommend this place!

We walked in and only waited about three minutes to be seated. The food was delicious; I really enjoyed the seaweed, prawn, and chive dumplings. The staff were pleasant and promptly removed our empty plates. The waiting time for our food was reasonable, taking about five to eight minutes. I would definitely go back and recommend this place to others.

Great Experience with fresh food

Recommend Har Gau(shrimp dumpling), and sun mai (pork dumpling), and the fried custard bun. Offered him some late at night, and excellent service - came in right before they close and they sell seated us and food came out quickly! Great people work there who can provide great recommendations!

Had some great food: the chicken and sweetcorn soup and stir fried chicken with mixed veg were lovely. (the mixed veg was mainly broccoli but still very nice). chinese broccoli in garlic was good too but too large of a portion for two people, so having a half portion as an option would be a good idea. The roast duck with rice was overly seasoned (salty) and came on the bone - this wasn't stated on the menu. But all in all a good experience and we'd come back again

Lovely, friendly and attentive staff. Food was a bit hit or miss. The custard buns were amazing and I would return for them alone. The sweet and sour chicken and egg fried rice was also really good. Unfortunately, the deep fried chicken dumplings and the vegetable noodles were a bit bland and left a lot to be desired.

Everything was great - Michael and Jen were helpful. Great service, food and decorations.

Went as a party of 8. Food lovely and service very good. They even bought out a birthday surprise with a candle for my cousin. Would visit again.

Really decent place to have dim sum. They serve the classics and done well. Not everything is the best I’ve had, but at least they are well made, arrives fresh and hot, tastes good. Very good service, and although not exactly cheap, it’s standard price for the location and very reasonable service charge. Will be back.

After being awake for over 24 hours from a long travel day we stumbled into this restaurant for a much needed dinner. We got a few dishes, including the thai fried rice and sweet and sour chicken and they were amazing! We also tried two different types of dumplings which were also some of the best I’ve ever had. The atmosphere is perfect and service is extremely fast and friendly. Overall would definitely come back!

The best restaurant in London for gluten intolerant people, the waitress explains very well what you can eat and brings you gluten-free soy sauce. The dish has chicken, vegetables, mushrooms and a type of very good noodles. They serve you very well and without rushing. Thank you.

we had a great lunch here- not a huge number of veggie options but what they have is very very good! the sichuan tofu was a particular highlight.

Good dim sum place in London Chinatown. They have all the standard options. We tried most of them. And they all tasted good. They are busy but there wasn’t much wait. The dishes arrive quickly too. This place is typical for a Chinese restaurant when it comes to service if you know what I mean. You won’t feel super welcome. But they get the job done. So depends on what’s important to you it can be a dealbreaker or in my case it doesn’t bother me much. :D We had a big group with some hangry ppl. So didn’t take any pictures of the foods.

As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by this happy, friendly man. He was so sweet and hospitable throughout the whole experience. It has been years since I've had good chinese food, so I'm happy I came here. The place looks fancy and cosy at the same time. The table areas are so spacious and comfortable. The food was great! We had the chicken skewers, the beef stew, the egg fried rice, the pork belly, the lamb stew and wine. I would highly recommend here. I'm glad I found it amongst all the other restaurants.

Wonderful food and service. We had the mapo tofu, fried noodles, soup dumplings and wonton soup. It was all incredibly tasty!

Lemon chicken very recommended. Service is fast but the place was kind of uncomfortable because of the many stairs. Taxes are not included in the prices.

Had a Christmas meal with friends here. Excellent service, really good value. The poached Sichuan beef - £19 - could have fed about 8 people. We were sure it was a mistake. Recommended.

The lady attending us was very friendly but other than that I’m sorry to say that we did not like this place at all. The vegetarian options weren’t great - I ordered rice and vegetable to go with the tofu sweet & sour. The rice was dry and tasteless and the vegetables were undercooked. It seemed kind of prepared in a hassle and was not seasoned. Below mediocre meal for a high price. Also right after finishing we were brought the bill without asking for it and felt pressured to leave quickly so they could occupy the table with new guests.

Sweet & Sour Chicken. Food was on the table quickly and tasted good. £12.80, rice is £4 extra. The store was well-stocked shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The food is delicious. Knowing a good restaurant in Chinatown is an important tip to save time and money! I recommend trying the dishes over dim sum!

I cannot believe it but yesterday after having a fantastic night with my boyfriend we came to this restaurant. I’m not going to say much apart from, there was hair in the food!!!!!

Excellent experience, all four of us had 2 starters each and one main course. We could not finish it, bottle of wine and water. Average spent 30£ per head. Thank u so much to Michael, O. Ray and Sun. We’ll be back soon!!!

I took my students there for lunch today and was impressed by the excellent service and the friendly staff. Thank you for providing ample space for us to dine comfortably. It was a delightful experience. The food was good. I miss the Golden egg yolk custard bun already. Should have ordered more.

Returned for the fifth time, never fails with good food, good service. The staff very friendly and helpful. Greeted by Michael, a very nice guy, most helpful and welcoming. I had to phone as we were lost, he explained how to get there👍 we strongly recommend this restaurant, that's why we continually return.

I recently visited this restaurant, and unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. I felt misled as I was charged the gratuity twice—once included in the bill and then again suggested on the card machine. The staff bring the payment terminal directly to the table without giving you time to review the bill, and the machine defaults to prompting for an additional tip. This approach feels quite unrefined and leaves a sour impression despite the quality of the meal. Disappointing, to say the least.

Very poor food, not worth the price at all. I ate crispy beef: very thin steaks where only dough and starch; I could not taste the beef; very hard and barely warm. The rice is cold and sticky. Waiter without any smile. You will have to pay +12% on top of the menu price. Very bad

Went in and asked for spicy noodles, they said they could do it but then they weren't spicy and didn't taste any good. They said they would get chili oil but then just got ciracha sauce as they didn't have any chili oil for vegetarians. When asked if it could make it spicier with chili's, they charged us for the chopped chilis. Horrible food and Horrible service. Update: I got an email from whoever was looking after their email account and was provided a 10% discount on my next meal. Absolute waste of time! I do not know how this place has got 4 stars in the first place and would pay close attention to their 5 star and 1 star reviews. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND, DO STAY AWAY!

Lovely food! We tried prawn dumpling, 'crispy shredded beef with sweet and spicy sauce', 'calamary' and 'noodle with prawn'. We liked everything except the beef. it was too sweet. The service was average, they asked to take the plates away several times even though there was still food..

Duck is very good, and they are very fast in the kitchen. Servers are quick, but seem a bit emotion-less. The atmosphere is very calm.

First time I visit this Chinese restaurant in Chinatown and it was the right choice. They offer dimsum also in the evening and it was great! Very tasty and good portion for sharing! The mixed vegetable noodles also offered a different great taste to the palate! The taste and texture of the noodle is different compared to the other chinese restaurant. A must visit! Great food at an affordable prices! 4 kinds of dimsum and mixed vegetable noodles for £33 including service charge!

I loved their dim sums. We began with the basics and liked every one of them. We were put on the upper floor - warmer and quieter 👍🏻 decent food at a reasonable price without a queue (saturday 1pm)

Recently visited this restaurant and we were all very impressed with the food and service.... especially the crispy pork, and crispy duck dishes....they were amazing!!! The vegetable dish with cashew nuts and asparagus... delicious!!! Seafood fried rice.... delightful....in all, an amazing experience...we will definitely be back... Been thinking and talking about that meal, over and over again.....how tasty it was....thank youuuuuu!!!!

Quiet on a Wednesday lunchtime, we wondered if the dim sum was actually made to order rather than pre prepared as it was so fresh. The atmosphere wasn't buzzing but that's fine, we were there for the food and will return.

Lovely family restaurant and felt food had a homely feel… very tasty

This is one of the smaller restaurants in Chinatown situated in the less crowded Lisle Street. Not withstanding to its size, the restaurant boosts an extensive menu like many of its competitors. We tried dim sums at lunch as that’s the staple for Cantonese cuisine & time of the day. Two of the main dishes like prawn dumplings & chives dumplings were good, but the soup dumplings were quite mediocre. We also had a plate of the three types of barbecued meat. It was actually a disappointment as the meat did not appear appetising. Skins were not crunchy & roasted pork was far too fatty to consume.

Love this restaurant. Me & my partner come back monthly just to treat ourselves, would recommend the travel into London to eat here.

Don't expect too much! Everything is average or below. We ordered stir-fried duck breasts, the taste just too sweet. You can skip the soup dumplings. Don't waste money!

Was recommended this restaurant by a family member so after attending the Leicester Square Theatre we popped in about 9.30pm. Was given a lovely welcome by the lady in there who was wearing glasses. (Sorry didn’t get her name). She was lovely and we ended up having a real laugh with her. Food arrived quickly and was very tasty. Portions are big so we could have shared a few dishes but they offered us a goody bag so that’s hubby’s lunch sorted today 😆 Would definitely recommend

I got 2 roast meats w rice - crispy pork belly and roast duck. Roast duck was ok, pork belly was tasteless hard and fatty. The rice was bland as the soy sauce was just splashed on. The veg tasted bitter and had a black rim on the bottom (visible in my photo). Really disappointing.. Also they bring a card machine with a tip option, the lady stood there waiting to see what I’d press. I stalled and finally when she left I clicked 0 because I saw they already added a service charge to the main bill..

Very well eaten, lots of tastes and flavors, BUT, but, but. ⚠ When we order dim sum (very good) for 2 and there are 3 of us, the homemade hors d'oeuvres for 3, and then 3 dishes, we are not used to having everything on the table at the same time . Which means the noodles were cold before we had time to start eating them! Furthermore, the "service charge" that everyone complains about is listed on the menu but not outside, and it is also clearly stated that a minimum of £15 per person is obligatory. I can assure you that reaching £15 is not difficult! 😁 For the rest, we had different servers, one of whom was much less friendly than the others, and having difficulty understanding the order. However, as said, it was very good. 😁

Popped in there on holiday in London. Me and kids loved it. Food was really good and the service was great. Would go back here again next time in London.

Excellent dim sum for reasonable prices compared to others in Chinatown. Very authentic compared to US SF bayarea.
