Samuel Jones, Exeter in Exeter

Looking for a dog friendly restaurant in Exeter during a visit I was lucky and very pleased to find the Samuel Jones. The location is the first pleasant surprise just on the quayside with ample car parking just a short walk away and a handy drop-off area just outside the restaurant for those with any mobility issues. Dogs are indeed very welcome and a nice touch was a small jar of treats by the check-in to keep the 4 legged customers happy as well. From the first moment inside the restaurant the staff were friendly, helpful and professional. Drinks orders were taken immediately and food orders were taken promptly as well. There is a good selection of dishes available on the menu and with everything available the only issue was trying to decide which of the delicious sounding dishes to have. The food arrived in good time looked amazing and was beautifully cooked and prepared too. I thought the quality of the food and value for money was superb. The server (didn't get his name unfortunately) was amazing too, friendly yet professional and courteous. I couldn't fault my evening at the Samuel Jones and would highly recommend it to anyone. I suspect during the tourist season early booking would be advisable as with the delightful location and amazing food, I imagine they are very busy.

Had a great dinner here on a Saturday night. Lively without being too loud, great food and friendly service. Our dog also really enjoyed being fussed over by the staff and the other customers :)

Had a really lovely time down at the Samuel jones in late December. I have recently found the bill card the lovely waitress (I believe her name was crystal) left with us after our meal. However I cannot say the same adjectives to describe the woman that was walking around the pub and seemed to be intimidating towards the staff. I did not get the name of this lady but she was blonde in black clothing. When we had arrived she had sort of shrugged her shoulders when we asked for a table. After finding out from the young waitress that they had a table free for us. The woman( who I assume is in a position of power) then huffed under her breath and walked away, making us feel very uncomfortable and unwanted which is not that norm when I have visited Samuel jones before. I really hope the standards improve so we can return again (hopefully!)

Had a great meal at Samuel Jones recently! The food was really tasty, and everything came out fresh and well-prepared. What made it even better was the amazing service from Crystal. She was so friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. If you’re looking for good food and great service, I’d definitely recommend Samuel Jones. We held our wedding reception here on New Year’s Eve and it was lovely. The food was so nice and the staff made it really special for us. It was a quiet reception but it felt really welcoming. We can’t thank Matt and the staff enough for our special day! 10/10 from us ❤️

We love this place! It's one of our favourites on the Quay! So much so, we decided to book for xmas lunch! The atmosphere was really lovely. Food was fantastic and the staff were so friendly and happy. We were served by Alfie. He was really helpful and went above and beyond to make our lunch special and didn't feel rushed. It was a lovely experience, and we would definitely book again for Xmas lunch or any other occasion. We love it as it's dog friendly. It's such a great place to while away the afternoon looking over the river. Great all year round! Thanks to all the staff, especially for a lovely xmas day! We all had a great family Christmas Day dinner, the food was excellent despite the fact that I think I ordered the wrong Ravioli starter which was not to my personal liking but the main and desserts were excellent and the team were great on the day with a really nice festive atmosphere thank you and we could take Mums dog in which was brilliant.

Had a wonderful Christmas Dinner on 25th Dec. My two large setters were made welcome. Every course had something festive added to every course to make it special. Loved the grapefruit sorbet and I don't like grapefruit 🤣. Herbs added to the veg. Even quince jelly and pickled walnut to the cheese and bisc. Have to book again for next year's Xmas.

We had a lunch for 4 of us, plus our small dog, The service was attentive and timely. The food was excellent, 2 of us had the turkey roast, the others had the steak and fish and chips. The restaurant benefits from not being too densely pack with tables and has a really friendly atmosphere. So nice to be able to dine in a restaurant with a dog, (usually we are confined to the bar). We came recently over a lunchtime following seeing an ad on Facebook for a Christmas children’s craft workshop. We came as a family with two children who had an excellent time. There was a large selection of craft available. We had some food and drinks in this time which was great. Nice, family friendly atmosphere. Special thanks to Aaron the Santa and Lucy the elf who helped spread Christmas cheer!

We went as a group of 5 adults for dinner this evening and we're looked after by Oli. We were seated quickly and although it was busy, Oli was attentive and took our orders in good time. All food was delicious and dietary requirements were well catered for. The music was a little loud to accommodate really conversation for the whole group but would highly recommend for food and service. Thanks Oli!

Had a really lovely evening here tonight. Family of four... all our dishes were delicious, the steak pie was to die for and the pizzas demolished quickly. The staff were super friendly and kind, and service exceptional. A great atmosphere throughout. Highly recommended!

Great service. Didn’t book, but we got a table. Ordered at the bar, and didn’t have to wait long for the food to come out. All the staff seemed happy and customer service was great.

Great location by the Quayside. Relaxed friendly atmosphere with Sky Sports for those who like sport. Excellent service by Crystal who was relatively new to waitressing. She was polite and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We had dinner with friends and the steak was fabulous. Delicious cheesecake too. Really enjoyed our dinner to celebrate a big birthday. We will return.

Lovely riverside pub. Great food with interesting flavours - the fish and chips got top marks. Really good service from Crystal, who was polite and helpful. It was a quiet weekday lunchtime so can't comment too much on the atmosphere but it worked for us at that time of day.

Dropped in for lunch in a group of 6. Had incredibly welcoming and accommodating staff, and the food was really great. All the staff were super helpful, but especially Louie really helped us out. It has a great atmosphere, and nice selection of food and drink. Good beers too!

Visited recently with my wife and granddaughter. We all enjoyed our meals, the food was very tasty and the portions were generous. I had the fish and chips and the batter was delicious. The staff as always were friendly and attentive. Good time had by all and we will be visiting again soon.

What a terrific place! A very stylish and wonderfully converted warehouse in quite a lovely location on the quay. I love the atmosphere it has, very comfortable with super friendly, welcoming staff and excellent service. The menu was just the right balance for choice, well priced, good size portions done just right. Really enjoyed this place, will definitely come again and would totally recommend it!

It's essentially a Wetherspoons style food, in a nice part of town. Sunday roast was served cold for everyone and wasn't anything to write home about, although the beef brisket part was nice. Would've be nicer if it was above room temperature

What a great place for my birthday meal, the staff were lovely from the second we walked in, shown straight to our pre-booked table, the food was delicious and Louis was very attentive, making sure we were looked after, he did a fab job. Will definitely return again.

Lovely family dinner at the Samuel Jones. Service was top notch from Louis - he was attentive all night, had a cracking sense of humour and had great energy. The food was great, everything came out in a timely manner and all together. Our steaks were cooked exactly as requested, the pizzas were huge and everything tasted amazing. No one left hungry! We also had a baby in the party and were seated on a lovely table with enough room for the pram to stay close which was really helpful. Definately would come again and an absolute must visit for those heading down the Quay.

This is a lovely place for drinks by the quay and the staff, especially Lewy were attentive and friendly. Furthermore, the food's quite nice and the place has a very pleasant atmosphere with a lot of character to the decor. I would definitely visit again.

A pleasant setting on the balcony overlooking the quay. A nice quiet atmosphere for lunch in the sun. Staff were polite and friendly. However, the cost of a lunch meal was bordering on very expensive and then the portion size exasperated this feeling - Very small portions for the cost. Not once were we asked how our meal was and no care was given about how our visit was. In short average meal and a high end price and very small portions. We won't be back again and will go elsewhere in the future.
