Samuel Jones, Exeter in Exeter

When has cheese been an option on "dirty fries" according to my friend google fries only become dirty when topped with cheese and other ingredients? Ordered from the dirty fries menu for the CHIPS option not fries with chirozo, received skinny fries with chorizo no cheese, queried with waiter who advised that mozzarella was an option! If cheese is an option then £4.50 for a shallow bowl of fries seems somewhat pricey. Have to make sure on my next car purchase I expect a steering wheel to be included.

Great friendly place. Very dog friendly with treats water and dog beds. Friendly helpful staff. Nice food. Great location. Staff are fab but could maybe do with more bar staff leading into summer time.

Startied off really well had drink out side come inside and had starters . This is when it went wrong after starters waited 1.25 hrs starter plates never clear I mentioned if we needed to let bar know starters have finished! Anyway mains come chicken dry couldn’t cut it ! Pasta hard and dry ! Just gave up we did get refunded but manager didn’t give a dam about our complaint didn’t try and rectify situation in fact she could care less ! Happy Easter Monday !!

One of my favourite spots for food and drink on the Quay. The whole place is always clean and well-kept, with a great rustic vibe that feels welcoming and relaxed. It’s a brilliant place to catch live sport too – they usually cover all the big events. The outdoor seating offers a fantastic view down the Quay, making it an ideal place to unwind. Highly recommended!

Rather poor value. Not expensive, but the food just doesn't warrant the price. Very thin fish hiding a small smattering of overcooked chips, a butternut squash wellington with still-raw pastry, and overseasoned chicken (since they'd run out of the beef, the staff letting us know about 30 mins after taking our order, and 2 mins before serving us). There are so many other places in Exeter which are better, so you won't catch us eating in here again!

Great pub on Exeter quay, good atmosphere and lovely outside area, food is good but it does get left in the kitchen serving area for a while so we have had a couple of not so hot meals, hence only 4 stars, but staff are friendly and helpful and it's dog friendly, wud recommend 🍻

Not a complaint. Lovely food. Apart from false advertisement, roast dinner comes with roast potatoes in menu, only it came with dophinoise and i was not informed of this. I mentioned this to a member of staff only she just walked away, hense why i have written a review. Very small portions of veg. £18.50 for roast, not good enough.

Waited over 45 minutes for my burger. It looked liked staff had no idea what was going on. The queue to order drinks is ridiculous. I had to ask for a refund and left.The service here is poor. There is something terrible wrong for such a sought after place.

We went in on a Thursday evening, unplanned, and were pleasantly surprised by every aspect of our visit. The service was attentive and polite, the food was really tasty and came out the kitchen at a good speed. My partner had the vegan burger, and I had the meatiest and we were both equally satisfied with our meal. The fries were excellent too. My only feedback on the menu was that there was no main meal under 600 calories (I think 750 was the lowest), so 1 or 2 healthier options would very much be appreciated. I was visiting on my birthday so went for what I fancied, (which was 1500+ just for the main!) but ordinarily this would have been a problem for me. Also a note for those that don't like cals being on the menu, they're not. And for those that do, they are available on the website. Which i think is the best of both worlds. They were showing the darts on the big screens, and I managed to position myself so I couldn't fully see a screen (having adhd, a screen is very distracting even when I have no interest in what's showing) the sound was down, and my partner quite enjoys the darts so we were both happy! The atmosphere was quiet and very cozy even though it is a large space and there was a good amount of tables taken. We asked for a quiet spot and were offered a booth which was really lovely and cut out a lot of visual distractions as it had tall sides in a semi circular shape. The music wasn't too loud and we were very happy all round. We were in and out in about an hour but could have really stayed longer if we had starter and dessert. Many thanks. We will be back!

Exceptional Experience at Samuel Jones – Sunday, 16th February I booked a table in advance for my husband’s birthday and had an absolutely delightful experience. Upon arriving at the bar, we were greeted by a lovely lady who promptly served our drinks and kindly offered to check our table location. She even took the time to personally seat us—a thoughtful touch that set the tone for the lunch. Having spent most of my career in hospitality, I’ve noticed that genuine customer service seems to be a rare find these days. However, the Samuel Jones team excelled in every way, embodying what true hospitality should be. The staff were attentive without being intrusive, quickly clearing tables and ensuring every guest felt well cared for. It was clear that they genuinely enjoyed their work and believed in the food they recommended, which made our experience even more special. We opted for the roast menu and were blown away by the quality. The beef brisket was beautifully cooked, accompanied by fabulous roast potatoes and perfectly prepared traditional vegetables. It exceeded all our expectations—more like high-end restaurant food than typical pub food. The meal was topped off with a staff-recommended crumble that was simply fabulous. Our whippet was also treated like a VIP! The staff gave her attention too, providing a complimentary dog bed, treats, a water bowl, and even a doggy menu. These thoughtful details truly elevated the experience. Special thanks to Tilly, Mati, and Ryan, who all went above and beyond. We went as a belated valentines meal and had Alfie as our server. We could not recommend him enough as he was more than helpful with wine options and the service from him was impeccable. We will definitely be returning!!

My burger was very nice but my fiancées Chicken wrap that had two small goujons and ropey salad was, to say the least, underwhelming. Also, as the staff were walking around in their preferred duds it was difficult to discern staff from punter. The place could do with being a bit sharper for their prices

A cozy place to dine or have a pint with friends or a couple. You will get a view on the quayside. There are tables outside. Good place to stay and chill in summer and even winter time.

Looking for a dog friendly restaurant in Exeter during a visit I was lucky and very pleased to find the Samuel Jones. The location is the first pleasant surprise just on the quayside with ample car parking just a short walk away and a handy drop-off area just outside the restaurant for those with any mobility issues. Dogs are indeed very welcome and a nice touch was a small jar of treats by the check-in to keep the 4 legged customers happy as well. From the first moment inside the restaurant the staff were friendly, helpful and professional. Drinks orders were taken immediately and food orders were taken promptly as well. There is a good selection of dishes available on the menu and with everything available the only issue was trying to decide which of the delicious sounding dishes to have. The food arrived in good time looked amazing and was beautifully cooked and prepared too. I thought the quality of the food and value for money was superb. The server (didn't get his name unfortunately) was amazing too, friendly yet professional and courteous. I couldn't fault my evening at the Samuel Jones and would highly recommend it to anyone. I suspect during the tourist season early booking would be advisable as with the delightful location and amazing food, I imagine they are very busy.

Had a really lovely time down at the Samuel jones in late December. I have recently found the bill card the lovely waitress (I believe her name was crystal) left with us after our meal. However I cannot say the same adjectives to describe the woman that was walking around the pub and seemed to be intimidating towards the staff. I did not get the name of this lady but she was blonde in black clothing. When we had arrived she had sort of shrugged her shoulders when we asked for a table. After finding out from the young waitress that they had a table free for us. The woman( who I assume is in a position of power) then huffed under her breath and walked away, making us feel very uncomfortable and unwanted which is not that norm when I have visited Samuel jones before. I really hope the standards improve so we can return again (hopefully!)

We held our wedding reception here on New Year’s Eve and it was lovely. The food was so nice and the staff made it really special for us. It was a quiet reception but it felt really welcoming. We can’t thank Matt and the staff enough for our special day! 10/10 from us ❤️

We love this place! It's one of our favourites on the Quay! So much so, we decided to book for xmas lunch! The atmosphere was really lovely. Food was fantastic and the staff were so friendly and happy. We were served by Alfie. He was really helpful and went above and beyond to make our lunch special and didn't feel rushed. It was a lovely experience, and we would definitely book again for Xmas lunch or any other occasion. We love it as it's dog friendly. Had a wonderful Christmas Dinner on 25th Dec. My two large setters were made welcome. Every course had something festive added to every course to make it special. Loved the grapefruit sorbet and I don't like grapefruit 🤣. Herbs added to the veg. Even quince jelly and pickled walnut to the cheese and bisc. Have to book again for next year's Xmas.

We all had a great family Christmas Day dinner, the food was excellent despite the fact that I think I ordered the wrong Ravioli starter which was not to my personal liking but the main and desserts were excellent and the team were great on the day with a really nice festive atmosphere thank you and we could take Mums dog in which was brilliant.

The restaurant benefits from not being too densely pack with tables and has a really friendly atmosphere. So nice to be able to dine in a restaurant with a dog, (usually we are confined to the bar). We came recently over a lunchtime following seeing an ad on Facebook for a Christmas children’s craft workshop. We came as a family with two children who had an excellent time. There was a large selection of craft available. We had some food and drinks in this time which was great. Nice, family friendly atmosphere. We went as a group of 5 adults for dinner this evening and we're looked after by Oli. We were seated quickly and although it was busy, Oli was attentive and took our orders in good time. Great location by the Quayside. Relaxed friendly atmosphere with Sky Sports for those who like sport. Excellent service by Crystal who was relatively new to waitressing. She was polite and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We had dinner with friends and the steak was fabulous. Delicious cheesecake too. Really enjoyed our dinner to celebrate a big birthday. We will return.

Lovely riverside pub. Great food with interesting flavours - the fish and chips got top marks. Really good service from Crystal, who was polite and helpful. It was a quiet weekday lunchtime so can't comment too much on the atmosphere but it worked for us at that time of day.

What a terrific place! A very stylish and wonderfully converted warehouse in quite a lovely location on the quay. I love the atmosphere it has, very comfortable with super friendly, welcoming staff and excellent service. The menu was just the right balance for choice, well priced, good size portions done just right. Really enjoyed this place, will definitely come again and would totally recommend it!

It's essentially a Wetherspoons style food, in a nice part of town. Sunday roast was served cold for everyone and wasn't anything to write home about, although the beef brisket part was nice. Would've be nicer if it was above room temperature
