House Wong Chinese Takeaway in Exeter

We have loved this place since we moved to Exeter but the last three times we have been there we all have had tummy cramps and upset tummy three days after. At first we thought I was a coincidence …. But the third time we are sad to say we will not be eating here again. Also noticed the ribs have had freezer burner

Unfortunately not a very good meal which was a shame. Every dish came with the same tasting sauce and were moist. My mate who is a Chinese takeaway connoisseur, and a veteran of over 40+ takeaways, has rated this one his least favourite! The only redeeming factor was the cheap price but still isn’t worth the money!

Such a shame usually our favourite Chinese so let down tonight only seem to have half of the menu available if you're lucky you must have had trainees working tonight rice was all congealed and in big lumps even the fried rice was the same, prawn crackers burnt , plain chow mein not to its usual tasty standard very plain , mini pancake rolls quite soggy not their usual crispy self . ☹️

Bought chicken curry and the chicken was tasting not very nice . Rang to complain and the reply I got was I was the only one to complain . Not happy with the outcome . I did say I would bring it back for them to and they didn't want to.

One of the best Chinese takeaways in Exeter, well actually the best I've had food from in this country!

Best Chinese around by far, I travel from Crediton to collect one.

The dining experience was mixed. The satay beef, lacking authentic flavor, was overwhelmed by vegetables and tough beef in a thick, brown sauce. The beef chow mein had a notable wok hei, but the beef quality detracted from the dish due to its toughness and chewiness, suggesting the chefs might not be using traditional Cantonese techniques like velveting the beef. The egg fu yong was underwhelming, lacking seasoning, and came off as bland. On a positive note, the shrimp in the sweet and sour sauce was large and succulent, though its breading was disappointingly soggy. The sweetcorn and chicken soup was overly starchy and leaned towards being too salty. Despite these culinary shortcomings, the restaurant offers great value for money with generous portion sizes, and the service received was commendable.

great food nice people, good prices...never been disappointed edit....oct23....prices are up, understandably , quality is still very good....stil lvfm. Edit... I've been coming here for 15 years now and I have never ever in all of that time had a meal that I haven't thoroughly enjoyed. I can't recommend them highly enough there is no one else in Exeter that feeds me as well as these people do

I know it is not authentic Chinese food restaurant, food here actually beyond my expectation. Good value for money. Recommend fried rice and duck.

We come from Crediton to buy from House Wong and have doing so for many years! We have not find any that equal taste and service!! Bravo House Wong! And thank you for our meals!

Good food. Nice prawns fast and very convenient

House Wong is a little gem on Bonhay Road a stones throw from St Davids Station. I go here every Friday night and phone up to collect it,no delivery service unfortunately but doesn't really bother me. I would say only downside is it's cash only but there is a Natwest cash machine outside St Davids Station so not a massive issue. Food is always hot and freshly cooked and staff are friendly and polite been going here for 25 years or so and hopefully will be around for another 25.

Of course this isn't authentic Chinese food (as that reviewer from China so helpfully pointed out). But as Chinese takeaways go, this is above average.

I had a takeaway from here many years ago and remembered that the food was quite good.. has another one today and the the food was excellent and the prices are very good compared to others in Exeter.. 5💫

This place is Cash Only, closest ATM/Cash-Point is at St Davids Station. The lady at the counter was very friendly and helpful with our order. The food was great, no complaints - a standard Chinese takeaway you could get most places, but that's what makes it great. I had the sweet n sour kung po style chicken and it had a lot of meat, making it a fair price too, and the chow mein was very nice too. I also found it was reasonably priced and had a lot of options available.

We have used this Chinese for 20 years or more. The food is excellent 👌 they will accommodate any requests and the staff are very friendly.

i ordered chicken chow mein and veggie spring rolls and the only good thing was the spring rolls (probably because they're not made in house). The chicken was SLIMY and white. not well cooked or seasoned. there weren't even any scallions or bean sprouts in the chow mein, which tasted horrid.

Says on here they deliver rung up and they don't ?? Bit misleading need to update their page !!

To be honest, the best thing that the food is very cheap. You can use a very low price to eat a full meal. The dishes are large, but they are more like American Chinese food, whether it looks or tastes. Totally different from traditional Chinese food.

While working down there recently, this was my place of choice, quick and friendly service.. Salt and chilli chicken is a must!!! And very reasonable in pricing. Highly recommended 👌

The best “take away” restaurant in Exeter. Very huge portion and tasty with the average price at only five pounds. This is relatively cheap comparing to the cost of leaving here. Every duck menu is so special. The sweet & sour is nice, too (but it does not come with rice). If you are just lazy to cook and want some worth-value meal, just grab your phone, order, and come to pick your food. You will not be disappointed.

first and last time we will buy from here, not only did they mess the order up and we didn't find out till we got home, 9 miles away, it was truly awful, tasteless and generally very poor quality would NEVER buy from here again!!
