One of the best sushi spots in Manchester! Always perfect fast service and the staff and atmosphere are so calm and welcoming. The menu has something for everyone, reasonable prices and the cocktails are delicious. Sushi is always super fresh and delicate, and if you get time I'd recommend having one of the floral teas they offer here!

Absolutely delicious sushi. They seem to be the only place doing crispy salmon skin & spring onion uramaki. (My wife’s favourite but very hard to find). Lovely ambiance, great service, beautiful decor and easy to park on a meter nearby. Love this place!

We travelled to Manchester for a few days and wanted to try some food locations that we'd never had the privilege of going to where we're from. This Japanese cuisine has excellent staff and service, very authentic and delicious food and a lovely atmosphere. We had the 50 sushi platter which was very good value for money. There is plenty choice of food, including many different types of food if you're not so much a fan of sushi. I'd highly recommend this to anyone that is a fan of the Japanese cuisine! Will definitely visit again if we come back to Manchester!

Prices get NO stars. Took a friend here Monday 13th Jan '25 for their birthday. We both ordered Salmon Teriyaki and 2 drinks each - £52!!. I've been coming here since 2013 and their prices have always been reasonable but this made me feel ripped off!

This was my first time posting a Google review. I visited on January 12th at 1:00 PM. The two Japanese staff members, Sayaka and Satsuki, provided excellent service! Thanks to these two, I had a wonderful time. I would love to visit again during the hours when they are working. It was truly amazing. Thank you so much!

Great atmosphere and deco, manager was really friendly, staff all friendly, and food was amazing.

Overall a nice restaurant - some of their portions are not in line with the prices. A cucumber salad as pictured was 7 pounds - it shouldn’t have been more than half that for a cucumber cut up with some sesame seeds.

A gorgeous little gem near to Oxford Road. Delicious food (I had a chicken teriyaki rice bowl), great service with a fab little seating area where you can sit recessed into the floor area, like many restaurants in Japan would do, minus the tatami though. Loved it and would definitely go back.

As my first time trying Japanese in a dedicated Japanese restaurant it was a great experience. The food was excellent and the atmosphere felt very authentic. Service was great. Definitely recommend.

Tenía unos entrantes que estaban sabrosos y bien cocinados (gyoza, tempura y tofu). Y tenía katsu y un misu cuervo. El ramen fue lo más destacado!

I've been coming here for over ten years and it has always been a great place to get some really nice sushi and sashimi, and gorgeous miso soup. It's also about the healthiest place to eat you could find, with teas and other non alcoholic options if you don't want to drink, or Japanese beers or saki if you do. It's great value at lunchtimes, and they have a shop downstairs selling Japanese food and tableware.

The atmosphere and service was good but the food really missed the mark. The gyoza was only 4 tiny deepfl fried dumplings, and the tonkutso ramen was the worst I've ever had. No flavour, the bok choy was slightly cold. Tasted like plain broth that someone poured heavy cream into. Super disappointing as the presentation was really nice.

Still a wonderful place to dine. High ceilings, with two huge shűji at one end of the restaurant creates a wonderful ambiance. Then there's the food - so delicious, and seemingly authentic. Finally the staff are also friendly and welcoming completing a dining experience of superlatives. I've been going here for over 3 years and it's still superb.

Rainbow roll from fridge, and miso soup without tofu... In my opinion, the worst Japanese ever... even one star is too much.

The sushi was 100% yesterday's from the refrigerator, rubber. Mizo soup without tofu, gyosa is also not tasty, and chicken yakitori is not at all clear what it is... and there was also something very unpleasantly buzzing all the time, the table was right next to the kitchen. I can't recommend this establishment enough!

didnt even have the chance to try anything , i booked a table through wowcher as a birthday gift , i followed the instructions as prompted and it said successfully booked. i travelled an hour and a half to get there , only to be told that they wont accept it. why are they on wowcher if they dont do it ? she didn't even try to scan my barcode and i had a confirmation of my booking and the time i got allotted was 1:30-3. very upset and gutted and the manager was very passive aggressive and rude and didn't at least honour the fact it had been paid for and i travelled far even when i had proof and confirmation. will definitely be getting a refund. please sort out your booking system.

Comida increíble, personal amable y un ambiente encantador. Tenía salmón teriyaki y pollo katsu al curry ambos estaban bien preparados, el curry era suave, ligeramente picante y sabroso. El salmón estaba tierno y húmedo y delicioso! Porciones de buen tamaño y una gran relación calidad-precio. ¡Gracias!

Ordered the chicken teriyaki (which doesn’t come with rice or noodles) for around £12 and the portion was unbelievably small it could pass as a side dish. for £12 I’d expect to at least have a dish that slightly fills me or would come with rice or noodles. Everything else was alright.

Ordered a Oyakodon and they forgot to deliver my miso soup. ( still have to pay for it even it wasn’t delivered 😅😅）The meal was too salty and soggy. I took one bite and couldn’t finish the rest. Hope Samsi will improve their quality.

Food is not good. Sushi rice is cold (proper sushi should have warm rice), ramen was tasteless and wasn’t much soup, tempura batter was not authentic. Atmosphere is nice and staff are fine

Today 6.10.2024 I went to this restaurant I ordered Ramen, the meat being very raw... children and my husband do not feel very well even at the moment, they have stomach pains and vomiting 🙁

Went for a celebratory team work dinner, food was amazing and really tasty! We ordered the millionaire platter and a few other bits. Was presented very nicely. The place was large and spacious so we had our own area which was nice. It felt a little quiet but it was a Monday night so maybe to be expected in Manchester. Great value for money.

I've been coming back here every year on my birthday for the last 9 years now and I've never been disappointed. Today marks my 9th annual visit and everything was just as amazing as usual. I never made the staff aware that it was my birthday but my mum did. So at the end one of the waitresses and the manager sang happy birthday and brought me mochi matcha ice cream on a plate with "HAPPY...❤️...BIRTHDAY おたんじょうび ❤️ おめでとう ❤️ written on which was a really cute touch that has made my whole year. The waitress who did it was Japanese and was very polite and pleasant with us all evening, going above and beyond to make it a good experience. I did not get her name but I cannot thank her enough for that sweet touch at the end! I also cannot recommend this restaurant enough! Go there! ありがとうございます！

The Samurai feast set menu, a glass of plum wine — just wonderful close your eyes, and it’s easy to forget that you’re in bloody Manchester

My first visit here, and it won't be the last. The chicken gyoza were crispy, tasty and piping hot, the katsudon (a dish I have wanted to try for years!) was everything I'd hoped it would be and the toffee apple desert was the perfect palette cleanser afterwards. Add in a couple of ice-cold Asahi to drink and this whole meal was just perfect. The staff are friendly and efficient and were happy to explain things to me as a first-time visitor. I highly recommend Samsi.

Staff friendly and helpful as soon as you enter restaurant is very clean and tidy nice atmosphere plenty of seating even has a bit for authentic eating food is really good and tasty would come here again when back in Manchester

I would rate it more but 5 is the most. Great quality food, polite and helpful staff easy to get to and an owner/manager that actually cares if his customers have a good experience. Couldn’t recommend more.

Well decorated location with delicious curry!

We visited Manchester with our young sushi loving family and had looked at the various options for Japanese cuisine in the City. I was drawn to Samsi because of the menu, reviews and authenticity. We arrived and were quickly seated. The restaurant was large and spacious and we felt that we had plenty of room. It certainly isn’t new and shows its age in areas like the restrooms, but that didn’t detract from the experience. We ordered a 40 piece selection, dragon roll, teriyaki salmon, pak Choi, veg and prawn tempura, Karaage and all sparking water. The food was beautifully presented, very fresh, plentiful and made with pride. If you enjoy this cuisine do give them a try. It was very good.

Out in Manchester for the day, I came across Samsi by accident, but had heard about it before. I popped in for lunch and had the most delicious Katsudon Donburi. Perfectly cooked pork and tasty dashi flavouring the rice, egg and spring onions, all accompanied by a dish of Miso soup. I was the first of the lunch diners but more arrived while I was there (including a Japanese family, which is always a good sign!). Staff were very helpful and exceedingly polite -not one thing was wrong

I didn't gone there but I heard a lot about their foods, services and atmosphere. Not bad.

Average decent food. Undercooked possibly freezer burned edamame without enough salt. Miso was decent. Katsu curry sauce a little thin and under spiced. Very very thin katsu. Prefer it with a little thicker chicken myself. Also the musics terrible! Chill out covers of pop songs. Naff. Nice staff.

Nice, very quiet (a rarity in Manchester) place with really good Japanese food. Both the maki rolls and nigiri as well as the Japanese curry were excellent.

AMAZING!! The sushi was fresh and made to order and the staff were lovely! You have the option to order and pay online or order with your server which was good. The price for the sushi was exceptional and will 100% be coming back

My sister and I went to Samsi restaurant as we were craving sushi and saw all the good reviews. This restaurant definitely meets expectations, the atmosphere was lovely, the food was delicious and the staff were exceptional. We ordered the luxury omakase platter (25 pieces) and an extra plate of sashimi sake (salmon) which were fresh and made to order. Also loved the geisha cocktails, the lychee flavour was very refreshing. A massive thank you 有り難う御座います to Kris who was polite, friendly and helpful throughout and had a lovely smile! We had a wonderful end to our day in Manchester, and enjoyed the food and service at Samsi. We would definitely recommend, and will absolutely return on our next trip to Manchester!

A nice place to experience authentic Japanese. I liked the presentation and as I understand, the flavours were typical Japanese, i.e. without added salt or seasoning. It was an interesting experience although to my westernised taste it was more about texture than flavour. The food was definitely fresh and I enjoyed it for what it was. The one thing this restaurant fails on is the toilets, which are a bit disappointing for a place that prides itself on "fine Japanese dining". But apart from that, I think I will pop in again when in the neighborhood.

TBH, the place is a bit grubby and grimey, especially downstairs toilets. It probably gets away with it at night, but not daytime which is why olit was probably empty. Sushi was good, everything else average, but the salmon dish was crucified and dry. We won't eat here again, so buyer beware.

Date of visit: 10.06.24. This was my 3rd visit to Samsi. On this occasion, I decided to bring my parents who had never (ever) tried Japanese food before. We just can't say enough about the staff, so kind and friendly. Lovely authentic food, presented well. The quality of the food is incredibly high as if the standard of the restaurant in general. A lovely place to dine in, especially when it's your birthday and they remembered and surprise you with a nice iced cream. My mum & dad loved it so much and talked about it the next day.

Tasty Japanese food, but expensive

I really liked the tables and the flowers really added to my experience. They had lots of options and I loved my tempura vegetables. The staff were attentive but not too in your face. It was near my hotel and as a solo woman I didn’t want a long walk back. Not too expensive either.

Not worth it. I had a ramen bowl. The noodles were literally spaghetti. I ask the staff about it. They even pretended to be “ramen noodles”. The broth was thin and definitely not properly cooked. Expensive and disappointing to experience. Not recommended!

We visited here for a birthday meal and it was our first time eating here. The food was incredible! The portions were generous and everything tasted so fresh and had so much flavour. We ordered a mix of ramen and sushi dishes and it was all amazing. The chicken skewers were especially delicious. The staff were also really welcoming. I’ve never experienced such warm and attentive service. We will definitely be coming back!!

I went to Samsi with my friend Yvonne. I can't comment on the atmosphere because it was very quiet when we were there. It was about 4.45 on a Thursday. We both had the vegetarian Gyoza to start with and then we had the Salmon with boiled rice and both courses were delicious. The staff were friendly and made us very welcome and the service was excellent. We will definitely go again and would highly recommend Samsi.

The beef rice tastes very average. The beef is a bit chewy.

Quite Good food however, I was charged 10% more for the "service" than the prices indicaded (included taxes). A bad surprise at the end.....

It was bad, both quality and quantity. First of all, the tonkotsu ramen was so bad, the soup literally tasted like water, even tap water tastes better and why was there a pak shoi in my tonkotsu ramen! I did not expect to pay £15 for a bowl of water. Second of all, the salmon rolls were small and overpriced, even kokoro has better quality. Last of all, tenpura tasted so mid, the coating was so thick and the sauce wasn't enough at all.

Food was 95% perfect being the seaweed salad having a very peculiar chlorine taste. The atmosphere only held 4 stars as the entire place smelt of bleach. I get it. Its clean throughout but the smell is not pleasant throughout the entire eatery and the entire time. The rest of the food could almost be outweighed and the service impeccable to say the least as the servers were all attentive, quick and meticulous. Would still definitely go again in future.
