Samsi in Manchester

Went here for tea alone, had great sushi and gyoza, with edamame. It was my second visit and will definitely be back. Thanks

Ordered the chicken teriyaki (which doesn’t come with rice or noodles) for around £12 and the portion was unbelievably small it could pass as a side dish. for £12 I’d expect to at least have a dish that slightly fills me or would come with rice or noodles. Everything else was alright.

Ordered a Oyakodon and they forgot to deliver my miso soup. ( still have to pay for it even it wasn’t delivered 😅😅）The meal was too salty and soggy. I took one bite and couldn’t finish the rest. Hope Samsi will improve their quality.

Visited with my wife and we loved it. Authentic Japanese cuisine.

Food is not good. Sushi rice is cold (proper sushi should have warm rice), ramen was tasteless and wasn’t much soup, tempura batter was not authentic. Atmosphere is nice and staff are fine

Today 6.10.2024 I went to this restaurant I ordered Ramen, the meat being very raw... children and my husband do not feel very well even at the moment, they have stomach pains and vomiting 🙁

Went for a celebratory team work dinner, food was amazing and really tasty! We ordered the millionaire platter and a few other bits. Was presented very nicely. The place was large and spacious so we had our own area which was nice. It felt a little quiet but it was a Monday night so maybe to be expected in Manchester. Great value for money.

Lovely restaurant with the friendliest staff and delicious food. We had a sushi platter, Katsu roll and gyoza and it was really tasty ! We will definitely be coming back here.

I've been coming back here every year on my birthday for the last 9 years now and I've never been disappointed. Today marks my 9th annual visit and everything was just as amazing as usual. I never made the staff aware that it was my birthday but my mum did. So at the end one of the waitresses and the manager sang happy birthday and brought me mochi matcha ice cream on a plate with "HAPPY...❤️...BIRTHDAY おたんじょうび ❤️ おめでとう ❤️ written on which was a really cute touch that has made my whole year. The waitress who did it was Japanese and was very polite and pleasant with us all evening, going above and beyond to make it a good experience. I did not get her name but I cannot thank her enough for that sweet touch at the end! I also cannot recommend this restaurant enough! Go there! ありがとうございます！

The Samurai feast set menu, a glass of plum wine — just wonderful close your eyes, and it’s easy to forget that you’re in bloody Manchester

My first visit here, and it won't be the last. The chicken gyoza were crispy, tasty and piping hot, the katsudon (a dish I have wanted to try for years!) was everything I'd hoped it would be and the toffee apple desert was the perfect palette cleanser afterwards. Add in a couple of ice-cold Asahi to drink and this whole meal was just perfect. The staff are friendly and efficient and were happy to explain things to me as a first-time visitor. I highly recommend Samsi.

Staff friendly and helpful as soon as you enter restaurant is very clean and tidy nice atmosphere plenty of seating even has a bit for authentic eating food is really good and tasty would come here again when back in Manchester

I would rate it more but 5 is the most. Great quality food, polite and helpful staff easy to get to and an owner/manager that actually cares if his customers have a good experience. Couldn’t recommend more.

Well decorated location with delicious curry!

We visited Manchester with our young sushi loving family and had looked at the various options for Japanese cuisine in the City. I was drawn to Samsi because of the menu, reviews and authenticity. We arrived and were quickly seated. The restaurant was large and spacious and we felt that we had plenty of room. It certainly isn’t new and shows its age in areas like the restrooms, but that didn’t detract from the experience. We ordered a 40 piece selection, dragon roll, teriyaki salmon, pak Choi, veg and prawn tempura, Karaage and all sparking water. The food was beautifully presented, very fresh, plentiful and made with pride. If you enjoy this cuisine do give them a try. It was very good.

Out in Manchester for the day, I came across Samsi by accident, but had heard about it before. I popped in for lunch and had the most delicious Katsudon Donburi. Perfectly cooked pork and tasty dashi flavouring the rice, egg and spring onions, all accompanied by a dish of Miso soup. I was the first of the lunch diners but more arrived while I was there (including a Japanese family, which is always a good sign!). Staff were very helpful and exceedingly polite -not one thing was wrong

I didn't gone there but I heard a lot about their foods, services and atmosphere. Not bad.

Average decent food. Undercooked possibly freezer burned edamame without enough salt. Miso was decent. Katsu curry sauce a little thin and under spiced. Very very thin katsu. Prefer it with a little thicker chicken myself. Also the musics terrible! Chill out covers of pop songs. Naff. Nice staff.

AMAZING!! The sushi was fresh and made to order and the staff were lovely! You have the option to order and pay online or order with your server which was good. The price for the sushi was exceptional and will 100% be coming back

Nice, very quiet (a rarity in Manchester) place with really good Japanese food. Both the maki rolls and nigiri as well as the Japanese curry were excellent.

Nice sushi I have ever tried, it was fresh and very well put together.

My sister and I went to Samsi restaurant as we were craving sushi and saw all the good reviews. This restaurant definitely meets expectations, the atmosphere was lovely, the food was delicious and the staff were exceptional. We ordered the luxury omakase platter (25 pieces) and an extra plate of sashimi sake (salmon) which were fresh and made to order. Also loved the geisha cocktails, the lychee flavour was very refreshing. A massive thank you 有り難う御座います to Kris who was polite, friendly and helpful throughout and had a lovely smile! We had a wonderful end to our day in Manchester, and enjoyed the food and service at Samsi. We would definitely recommend, and will absolutely return on our next trip to Manchester!

A nice place to experience authentic Japanese. I liked the presentation and as I understand, the flavours were typical Japanese, i.e. without added salt or seasoning. It was an interesting experience although to my westernised taste it was more about texture than flavour. The food was definitely fresh and I enjoyed it for what it was. The one thing this restaurant fails on is the toilets, which are a bit disappointing for a place that prides itself on "fine Japanese dining". But apart from that, I think I will pop in again when in the neighborhood.

Date of visit: 10.06.24. This was my 3rd visit to Samsi. On this occasion, I decided to bring my parents who had never (ever) tried Japanese food before. We just can't say enough about the staff, so kind and friendly. Lovely authentic food, presented well. The quality of the food is incredibly high as if the standard of the restaurant in general. A lovely place to dine in, especially when it's your birthday and they remembered and surprise you with a nice iced cream. My mum & dad loved it so much and talked about it the next day.

TBH, the place is a bit grubby and grimey, especially downstairs toilets. It probably gets away with it at night, but not daytime which is why olit was probably empty. Sushi was good, everything else average, but the salmon dish was crucified and dry. We won't eat here again, so buyer beware.

The environment was fantastic, the food amazing and the staff was just perfect!I highly recomend their sushi its one of the best I've had in Manchester area. I will come back and try the full menu as it's just perfect.

We celebrated my sons 30th birthday and it couldn't of gone any better. Staff are amazing friendly polite and kind. The food was absolutely delicious, we were all extremely happy. I would definitely recommend.

I really liked the tables and the flowers really added to my experience. They had lots of options and I loved my tempura vegetables. The staff were attentive but not too in your face. It was near my hotel and as a solo woman I didn’t want a long walk back. Not too expensive either.

Not worth it. I had a ramen bowl. The noodles were literally spaghetti. I ask the staff about it. They even pretended to be “ramen noodles”. The broth was thin and definitely not properly cooked. Expensive and disappointing to experience. Not recommended!

I went to Samsi with my friend Yvonne. I can't comment on the atmosphere because it was very quiet when we were there. It was about 4.45 on a Thursday. We both had the vegetarian Gyoza to start with and then we had the Salmon with boiled rice and both courses were delicious. The staff were friendly and made us very welcome and the service was excellent. We will definitely go again and would highly recommend Samsi.

We visited here for a birthday meal and it was our first time eating here. The food was incredible! The portions were generous and everything tasted so fresh and had so much flavour. We ordered a mix of ramen and sushi dishes and it was all amazing. The chicken skewers were especially delicious. The staff were also really welcoming. I’ve never experienced such warm and attentive service. We will definitely be coming back!!

The beef rice tastes very average. The beef is a bit chewy.

Quite Good food however, I was charged 10% more for the "service" than the prices indicaded (included taxes). A bad surprise at the end.....

It was bad, both quality and quantity. First of all, the tonkotsu ramen was so bad, the soup literally tasted like water, even tap water tastes better and why was there a pak shoi in my tonkotsu ramen! I did not expect to pay £15 for a bowl of water. Second of all, the salmon rolls were small and overpriced, even kokoro has better quality. Last of all, tenpura tasted so mid, the coating was so thick and the sauce wasn't enough at all.

Food was 95% perfect being the seaweed salad having a very peculiar chlorine taste. The atmosphere only held 4 stars as the entire place smelt of bleach. I get it. Its clean throughout but the smell is not pleasant throughout the entire eatery and the entire time. The rest of the food could almost be outweighed and the service impeccable to say the least as the servers were all attentive, quick and meticulous. Would still definitely go again in future.

Lovely food. My first time to a Japanese restaurant. The food was great. We went for a platter of different items. The only strange thing was the green tea flavoured ice cream for dessert. Would definitely recommend and visit again.

Average. First of all the venue is a strange large room which felt quite cold and had no atmosphere. There was a cool seated area at the back in the corner, but the rest was fairly bland. The menu is varied and seem to be trying to cover all bases. The food was average, nothing to rave about. The service was good. The toilets are a dive. I would hazard a guess that there are better places to go in Chinatown that here!

Using Tastecard to get 25% off made this good value, I opted for sushi & sashimi chef selection and squid tempura and matcha latte! It was all lovely and staff were great. Eating out for a little over £20! Fantastic!

We had a great meal here recently, rounded off with some hot sake. The staff are very attentive, the restaurant itself was relaxing, everything clean. They were able to accommodate some dietary requests with no problem.

Delicious sushi, excellent service.

ordered the sushi and sashimi - rather disappointing. smelt strong when it arrived at the table and we all know the freshest fish (which this should have been) does not. 2 pieces of the sashimi were cooked and didn’t taste very good and only one sushi was really nice. the veg tempura was nice and the chicken katsu; however, we had requested the tempura be served as a starter and the fish came first, followed by the tempura and the chicken, at almost the same time. the waiter whispered and the requested water never arrived. the japanese green tea was incredibly weak. service was definitely not worth the 10% they automatically added to the bill

Beautiful restaurant, with a calm Japanese ambiance. Food was good, friendly staff, happy to help and talk a first timer like myself through the menu. Good selection of Japanese Sake and Whiskey and good value for money in Manchester City Centre. Would definitely recommend, I will be back.

Really great sushi, delicious and u love that they do the platters as I don’t know where to begin and I like to try a bit of everything. They even had rarer seafoods like octopus. It was a real treat. The only thing letting this place down is the instant smell of chlorine as you walk in. Unfortunately the restaurant is above a gym and unfortunately the smell comes up into the restaurant… not sure what they can do about that. But you soon forget about it and I wouldn’t be put off coming again as the sushi was delicious!

Very empty when I visited and whilst the food was pleasant and dishes delicate it did lack flavour I was expecting. Service was excellent.

Service was not bad but overall experience was terrible. Food was far from restaurant quality and could easily of been mistaken for aldi freezer food. Everything was overcooked and bland with literally no taste. The food had come out within minutes of ordering which suggest to me it was not fresh. Very disappointed with everything and will definitely not return to this restaurant.

We dined there for an early dinner on Monday evening. The food was lovely - great sushi and tempura vegetables. Service was ok but our waiter seemed very unsure and nervous. The main let down was the toilets. I can assure you that there was NOTHING Japanese about these. Old, dirty, cubicles with loose catches. Stained floors and doors and the taps all stained and gross. It was a terrible experience. If i had gone to the toilet before ordering I would have left the restaurant. Also, toilets down a steep flight of stairs so poor accessibility. Shame, as the food was nice..

Awful food! Don’t be fooled by reviews. Setting and decorations are not overdone, the atmosphere is quite calm. Although that might be due to the fact that the restaurant was empty. The server did their best but was unable to make up for the terrible food. The sushi was bland and cold, the fish had no flavour, the rice is mushy and stale, we did not even eat half of our “Deluxe” platter which costed £55!! You’d get better sushi from a supermarket. The ramen was expensive and also flavourless, heavily seasoned with sesame oil, which overpowered the tasteless broth. There was no garnishing except for green onions, the pork was overcooked to mush. Overall a complete waste of money and when asked they could not offer any explanation. Please save your money and go anywhere else.

Terrible food, the rice was overcooked, everything was overpriced, we paid £55 for a sushi platter that came through very underwhelming and tasteless. Ramen was tasteless as well, customer service was okay.

Das Essen war enttäuschend. Japanisches Curry war absolut undefinierbar im Geschmack. Hatte nach einem Gewürz gefragt und habe ein Mini Schälchen chilli Öl bekommen, was dann aber nit 1 Paund berechnet wurde. Auch sushi Mix ist absolut unzureichend .Sehr kleine Portion, maximal als ein Snack zu betrachten ,Fisch höhstens in Discounterqualität. Preis Leistung stimmt überhaupt nicht.

Dropped in for a late lunch opted for the Sushi, Sashimi & Norimaki 10 piece platter and miso soup. All good.

Great place, great food, great price.

We go here regularly and it is still one of the best Japanese restaurants in Manchester. The updates to the menu (Katsu sushi roll) are truly lovely. The staff are wonderful too. The karage chicken and their ramen is one of the best I’ve tried outside of Japan. We also love their takoyaki!

This was one of the best meals I have had I. A very long time. The sashimi sea bass combined with the superb rib eye skewers were out of this world. I am now spoiled as my previous favourite meal in Jupiter Florida is now second place. Great food, everyone should go here.

Amazing quality fresh food, great hospitality. It was our anniversary and they presented us with a lovely ice cream dessert wishing us a happy anniversary. Overall, great experience, everyone so kind and lovely.

Food’s okay, but a bit pricy for the quality. Had the spicy salmon maki and the sushi rice was a bit hard. The ramen was nice but felt like hong kong instant noodles. The sushi platter’s portion was the most disappointing, would not recommend. Restaurant is very nicely decorated but there’s an odour, very quickly gotten used to tho. Staff are nice overall.

My first review in a while and I am so excited to be writing about my experience at Samsi Manchester. My friend and I came here for our girls weekend brunch and it was better than our expectations too!! Alright so we had one of the 10 piece platters- Sushi, Sashimi, Norimaki 🍣 to start with alongside a warmed bottle of sake 🍶 ☺️to share of course! We could taste the freshness of the sushi and cravings were happily satisfied. From the main menu we decided to go down the path of Donburi! As we had both been craving this particular dish for the longest time. Choosing the Katsudon and Unadon which tasted 10/10… alongside stir fryed udon( s/o to the chef for making this variation for us ❤️) just amazing also came with miso soup which we had after the meal. Of course!!Dessert, cheesecake(New York cheesecake on the menu)at a Japanese restaurant umm? Yes please!!! Also 10/10 Overall, beautiful interior- it really takes you to another world intimately and having the chance to enjoy authentic Japanese in all its entity. One of my best food memories for sure. Be sure to check them out, perfect settings for date nights, weekend brunch!They also offer large bookings for celebrations as well!! I 100% recommend Samsi, and will definitely be back to try the other items on the menu. The customer service was also 10/10 which is really important! Also if you live around the area, you can place an order for your slice of authentic Japanese and have it delivered too!! Convenient, perfect for homeboys and takeaway evenings 💗
