Sampan in Perth & Kinross

Lovely food. King Prawn Chilli Massala was the cats ass. There is no licence for alcohol, so drank our own wine that we had just purchased from Tescos. A great meal. 🙂 Restaurant could do with some love and care decoration wise, but the food was really tasty.

This is a lovely restaurant. Food really good. Staff are very friendly and helpful, I would definitely go back if I was in the area. Only thing about all restaurants is that they charge over the top for wine.

Got home delivery to kinloch Blairgowrie not a nice meal at all also they forgot poppadoms when I called them they said we are not coming back to deliver your to far away after paying over £60 I thought he was very rude on the phone prawn Buhna was like shrimps very poor also lamb was tough won't be back sorry.

I have eaten here several time over the last 10 years or so. Speaking as an Indian food lover of nearly 60 years standing, I’d say the food is exceptional. The service is really nice from a lovely team but my it’s slow. Always has been, never really been a problem except with guests who are always amazed at just how slow it is but all that is immediately forgotten when the food arrives. The food is great, try the Kathmani Masala or the King Prawn Garlic Chilli, the Lamb Achori or the Butter Chicken but, if waiting for your meal is not your strong suit, get a takeaway, in fact I’m off to call in my order…

Ordered 2 veg buryanis and a nanny to take home, getting home no naan was given and no veg in the biryanis just curry sauce. Terrible and ripped off, never going again

Had to wait 50 minutes on our meal .husband had lamb kababe it was dry and burn. Ladies toilets were are a disgrace I reported them then when leaving mentioned it again girl behind bar says yes to me bit nobody cleaned them won't be back .a group of amer where in and they said toilets were disgusting too .

Was so looking forward to this meal, arrived at restaurant at 5.15pm, there was one waiter working the phone never stopped ringing, which he had to answer their was a family of four, myself and husband, 6 customers in the restaurant altogether. The waiter took our order at around 5.35, 6.45 we were still waiting on our starter!!!!! We asked a couple of times how long it would be, oh just 2 minutes more he said we left hungry and disappointed. The people coming in for take aways all got served b4 us terrible service. Should have had more staff on even one person answering phone.

Food was amazing, loads of meat in each dish, okra very fresh. One of the best we’ve had in a long time. Highly recommend this restaurant

The restaurant is large with quite basic decor. As we were the only guests dining at the time, the ambience was quite soulless. However, the members of staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was gorgeous and I would definitely eat there again.

Thanks to the staff who squeezed us in last minute. Food was just perfect, peshwari naan was delicious and the chicken korma was so so tasty with melt in your mouth pieces of chicken. Wish it was closer to home 😉🙂

Hadn’t been here in ages but had a lovely dinner with my husband. Service was friendly and prompt and the food was tasty and hot. Ordered too much as usual so took home what we couldn’t eat and had it for lunch the next day, still yummy.

Been here an hour and a half and still no food. Apparently it’s not the managers fault. Did get some poppadoms but not the right number.

The Sampan is an Indian restaurant in the heart of Blairgowerie.Bright and open, staff all wearing faceshields or masks.Ordered prawn Puri and lamb Madras with rice and naan.The Puri was serve separate from the prawns, tasted ok and was of reasonable size.Lamb Madras had plenty of meat and a good hot sauce. Again ,plenty of it.Rice portion was a bit skimpy and the naans, while tadty, are on the smaller side.Staff were friendly and efficient. Meal didn't take too long but there were not many in might be different if busy.Enjoyed the meal and would certainly go back.

Long wait ordered at 5.40 told 45-1hr received at 7pm which made our chinnese cold. Some the chicken dishes only had 6 pieces. The quality of the food was fine but expensive for what you got.

Restaurant wasn't overly busy but the takeaway was very busy, sign that the locals like it!! Currys were great and the spice was there, it said it was spicy and it was, not something that happy a very often. Staff were great attentive although busy with takeaways. Restaurant was very cold, the entrance hall was warmer than the actual restaurant, one table had their jackets on. Overall good was great, would go back!

We heard some opposing reviews about Sampan before visiting, so we were curious to see if the food was really Asian style food. We had a truly delicious meal at Sampan. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the spicy dishes actually were spicy. We highly recommend the vindaloo and the saag paneer!

Sorry short review as we walked in to find only two other diners. We are shown to a table to be told that they had no draft lager available and only one bottle of on lager and some Budweiser. We asked to be given time to think and they stood over us but eventually moved away when we said again. We looked at the menu which was quite pricey and were pounced on again by another member of staff for meal order. We said we were still looking. We decided we were not comfortable and left. So poor rating from us but locals did say was nice so could just have been an off day

The Chicken korma, Lamb Tikka was great - Chicken Maryland not so good. The main issue was the length of time we had to wait. Make sure and leave far more time than advised.

We have used this Indian restaurant a few times whilst staying in Blairgowrie. It provides well cooked food. Order in advance.

Visited for an anniversary meal, was well catered for my vegetarian wife. The food came promptly and was tasty, but the wine selection was very limited and overpriced, they only had ice cream for dessert, and only 3 of the 8 on the menu. Finally when they confirmed they did coffee and i asked for a double espresso they advised they only did 'normal' coffee.. i understand that Blair isnt a big city, but it's not that gard to have a reasonable selection of desserts and more than whatever 'normal' coffee is supposed to be.

First time at this restaurant so did not know what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised. The food was well presented, authentic and tasty. The staff were friendly and helpful, fitting us in on a busy night (We hadn't booked) We had good size portions and the prices were reasonable. If you like Asian food and your in Blairgowrie its well worth a visit.

My wife and I are keen Indian lovers.....so happy if surprised to find one in Blairgowrie. We were also surprised to find how authentic and high quality it was. All the classic dishes were available at reasonable prices along with Indian beers......all above our expectations. It was so good we went twice during our short stay!.

Always come to Blairgowrie for the holidays and always return to this restaurant since it is so amazing. The food is full of flavour and the staff were lovely. Over the years the restaurant only seems to get better!

Me and my partner was down Blairgowrie for few days on a break while we was going past sampan couldn’t resist not to go in for a meal the smell of spices was just amazing! We had the set meal for 2 can’t complain the best Indian by far highly recommend!

Great service, amazing authentic food at a really good price. The wine is also very reasonably priced. Having recently returned from a holiday touring various parts of India, the food at the Sampan is every bit as good as we had in the top restaurants in Delhi, Jaipur, Agra and Chennai. Nan bread is made in a tandoori oven...awesome. This is a must visit if you are staying around the Blairgowrie area.

Super impressed with this restaurant. Fantastic meal served by a very friendly and informative young man. We visit Blairgowrie once a year to play golf in the Scottish Mixed week. We will will most certainly be back here for a meal next year. Highly recommend.

Checked NUMEROUS times that the food ordered was vegan, now been told that non of the sauces are (or have been) due to milk/ghee.

It's so good to have such a great Indian restaurant in town. Varied menu and the food is always delicious.

Not that keen on customers, they do get in the way! They blame the wait time on takeaways but in the 2 hours I was in there 5 orders went out and people were given ridiculous waiting times. Dry rubbery king prawns, incinerated naan, poppadoms OK but not sure they weren't bought in? Dips fine but again, home made? Good for a laugh if you're in the mood ........ but expensive!! Beer OK but no idea of price as I never got a bill. Eaten there before, never impressive but this was the worst!

Food was well spiced and cooked and there was plenty of it. Service was friendly but brisk, but nothing wrong with that. Given the location with river views, it was a bit dark and gloomy inside for my liking.

Simply delicious food. Hard to eat a good curry and this curry would take some beating. I had chicken madras which was a perfect spice level and so tasty.

Great place for a curry, either sit in or take away, after a day on the hills. We have even taken their menu away with us and phoned our order in from the top of a hill. Only drawback is that they usually take quite a while to get the food ready so you are well advised to order about an hour before you need the food.

Food delicious and very relaxed atmosphere. Food did take a little time to arrive but they did advise they were busy before being seated. This actually made the meal / evening more relaxed and enjoyable.

Friendly, welcoming and suitably attentive service at the Sampan certainly floats my boat. We selected the set meal for two, which began with poppadums and dips, followed by a shared starter. We chose vegetable pakoras and they were delightfully light, crispy on the outide with soft flavoursome inside. The two different chicken mains were fine, but the meat had a strange texture and the tikka sauce was rather bland and flavourless. Good buzz about the place and plenty of customers.

Superb dining experience! Has seriously improved in last couple of years. Service is professional and friendly. Food is delicious. Can handle big groups if you call ahead. I wish I could give 6 stars we all had a wonderful night at Sampan.

Having visited the sampan to eat in and sampled their takeaway food, i must say I find the variety, quality and pricing to be just right. I will be back again Thank you Sampan.

Like all good things it takes time to produce food like this so relax and prepare for a wait which is well worthwhile.

I went to Sampan on Friday. I ordered a chicken tikka biriyani and a chicken curry. The curry was not too spicy for me to handle. The biriyani was beautiful. The service was very fast and staff were very friendly. The portions were very large I couldn’t finish it so the waiter packed it up for me and I enjoyed it for the second time when I got home. Defo worth the money.

This must be the best Indian restaurant for excellent food, value for money and great service. I’ve eaten in many Indian restaurants including Sheffield and this place is up there with the best. Well done to all at Sampan.

Visited the Sampan twice in the last two weeks whilst on holiday in Scotland.

Lovely meal with friends. Waiter service was good. Friendly staff and nothing too much trouble. House red wine was nice also. Family are from Blairgowrie and every time I visit we have to make a point of visiting for a curry. Chic pathia no corriander, king prawn pathia, chic tikka masala, 2 nans and rice. I don’t often write reviews about a place but this one is worth the time to type.

40 mins to make a takeaway curry. And pretty expensive for what we got. Tiny nan breads.. Poor value

Als je langer verblijft in Schotland, dan wil je wel een keertje wat anders dan Haggis of pub Food. Wat is het toch met restaurants in Schotland dat ze de beste plekken in het restaurant leeg laten en de mindere plekken toewijzen? Raar fenomeen, ook hier. De bediening was overigens wel ontzettend gastvrij, bijna onderdanig zoals in Azië. Het eten was meer dan prima en zeer redelijk geprijsd.
