It’s amazing. First time in Bournemouth and staying in the nearby hotel. Being a Malaysian a long long time ago - this place was amazing and am so glad to speak to the owner and reminisce about old Malaysia. Food was amazing and so far it’s been great. Nice to touch base like this as it’s good for the mind. So thank you for the whole package

Absolutely delicious food, welcoming staff and great atmosphere. We had a selection of dishes and came away full and happy. We will definitely return and recommend to our friends and family.

So lucky that we're only a 15 min drive away. We are probably now close to double figure visits in the 5 years it's been open. Another excellent meal tonight. Always aim to ring the changes with our choices but can't beat the sate for starters!

Absolutely loved my visit here with 7 members of family. Such good value too. I had chapati and then nasi goreng. It was all off the charts delicious and I am looking forward to returning here . Really friendly staff and byob and just great. Love it

Authentic and delightful Malaysian food that delivers in a simple and honest manner and makes for a very enjoyable experience. BYOB too so the value is manifested in the form of a light bill at the end. 7 of us paid £120 which is £17 per head for dinner. A hidden gem, not in one of Bournemouth's best areas but nevertheless with nearby street parking, is a great place to visit and enjoy authentic cuisine.

Found this place by accident really while dropping my daughters at uni. We didn't book but thought we would try anyway. The lady was very accommodating and found us a table for 5. The menu for anyone who is fimialar with Malaysian food very good as it has all the dishes you would expect.. We had a selection of starteds who which were excellent. The mains were all good with a very nice prawn laksa my favourite. Go enjoy experience Malaysia.

We have always been to the restaurant and have had a really good tasty meal, so we decided to have a takeaway from there. It was very disappointing, the chicken satay was lukewarm and the roti was very greasy and inedible. My husband’s nasi goreng was bulked out with lots of diced carrots, not something that’s usually in that dish. Definitely would not order another takeaway from there.

Have just returned home to Westbourne having had a meal in this delightful restaurant which is Malaysian Street Food. Our son recommended it and took us tonight. It was pure delight. The menu is vast and there is definitely something for everyone and everyone's taste. My son recommended for me the Chicken soup as it is not spicy. Well it was absolutely delicious. Basically a huge bowl with pieces of soft chicken, noodles,bean sprouts, a beef pattie and vegetables in a lovely broth. It was so tasty and filling. I had started with a deep fried roti with a spicy sauce but I myself found the sauce way too hot for my palate but the roti was different. The staff were friendly and very attentive and I will definitely be going again.

Absolutely incredible experience. The food was amazing. We had the chicken satay and tiger prawns to start, the chicken satay was the best we’ve ever eaten (& it’s one of my husband’s favourite starters so he has it a lot!) Then for main we had the butter chicken and rendang. Both were so so tasty! So authentic, so friendly, really impressive, we will be back! Thank you ☺️

Great lunch - we over ordered so we could take some away!!!! The wings with oyster sauce starter were amazing, in fact all of it- super fresh ingredients and the hosts were really friendly. Fixed my Asian cravings- very authentic especially the sambal. Can’t wait to go back/get takeout.

Been here several times and always leave thinking I can't wait to come back. If you like Malaysian food this seems like the real thing to me; absolutely delicious! The staff are very friendly and happy to help with the menu - it's worth checking as some of the dishes are very spicy. Good vegetarian selection too. Beer, wine etc. can be bought in the shop next door and they are very happy for you to bring them in.

Great last minute decision on a rainy eve to pop in, was recommended locally and did not dissapoint. Food was amazing and so fresh and tasty. Its BYO alcohol but good choice of malaysian mocktails and Teas. The whole team are so friendly with Sheena & Eddie lovely hosts and front of house staff brilliant and chatty and helpful. we will be back.

One of the best Malaysian restaurants I know in England. The portions are big, the taste is immaculate and the staffs are incredibly friendly. My number 1 go-to place to dine in Bournemouth!

A friend told us about this restaurant - great excuse for a date night :) The food was beautifully presented and delicious, as well as reasonably priced and served with a smile. It’s BYOB but they do have a selection of fruit mocktails, soft drinks and teas. We’ll definitely go back soon.

This little place on Holdenhurst Rd is a hidden gem. The most incredible tasty food. I am addicted to the nasi goreng. What a treat of a place for a takeway whilst lockdown has been on.

So we have eaten here a few times and always enjoyed the warm welcome we received.This time we opted for a takeout. The food arrived in good time. And how do I start to describe the flavours. Wow just doesn't do the food justice. We chose 2 sambal dishes the chicken and seafood. Chicken was cooked perfectly. The Sambal has a lovely spicy kick to it and compliments both the chicken and seafood perfectly. We also chose the eggplant dish wish again didn't dissapoint. I really can't fault this food. We will be back

Hibiscus & blueberry Lemonade I tried some of my colleagues drink and it will definitely wake you up as it’s quite sour for me.Starter Sate chicken Nicely chargrilled with a savoury sweet satay sauce.Spring rolls This was crispy and a clean finish. It didn’t leave any oily residue on the plate or lips. MainTraditional Nasi Lemak I honestly don’t know why I haven’t tried this sooner. The coconut milk rice was like eating sticky rice but not as glutenised. You could smell aroma before tasting it which is the best sense when it comes to food. It gave it an extra satisfying meal. This came with egg, anchovies, fried peanuts and their homemade sambal - I have been watching @thefoodranger tour in Malaysia and going on about sambal and I was so happy to finally taste it.Accompanied by:Ayam Goreng Berempah I don’t know what spices they put in there but it's absolutely extraordinary. Theres a hint of spice which adds extra aroma. What I love about the chicken is that it’s not dry and not greasy!!Rendang DagingThe beef was so tender and soft, it was melting in your mouth surrounded by mouthwatering seasoning of shallots, galangal, lemongrass, turmeric & chillies. Sambal Sotong I love this type of squid ( I don’t know what the name of it is but, it’s naturally filled with squid caviar and other substance). It was marinated with amazing samba sauce which filled you with warmth and comfort.Nasi Goreng I tried a spoonful and I would definitely order this next time. It was really well seasoned with a peak of spice. What an incredible dish this is.Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to order dessert because I was so full. I didn’t even finish all my dishes as they gave VERY GENEROUS portions. I would absolutely come here again. This was recommended by my colleague who also thinks its a little gem.

Visité nuevamente el restaurante después de reabrir recientemente para la cena, la comida sigue siendo tan excelente como siempre y el personal siempre es amable y agradable. Really lovely food all freshly cooked authentic Malaysian. One of my favourite places to eat in Bournemouth. The staff cannot do enough for you. I recently took my dad and it did not disappoint. Simple decor but the food speaks for itself.

Been here while on holidays in Dorset and loved the food, the service and the staff. Food was very tasty (I had chicken Nori Goreng but also tried their coconut rice and their butter chicken) and reasonable portions. Happy to recommend this restaurant.

We only ate in the restaurant once before lock down and had a brilliant meal, great food, friendly staff who couldn't do enough for us. We had such a great meal that we continued eating their food by using their take away service. Now one of our favourite places for take away food.

Ordered over the phone for delivery, staff were friendly even though they were clearly very busy. Delivery received without any issues, still piping hot :)Amazing food, really delicious and great value, we'll definitely order again and be back in to the restaurant when we can.

We feel super lucky to have this wonderful restaurant on our doorstep. The food is delicious, authentic and homecooked.. as well as being extremely reasonably priced! The family who run the restaurant will do everything they can to ensure you have a good experience. I have recommended to many friends and colleagues!

Having been here a few times and enjoyed the food, we invited a couple of friends to come along with us. The restaurant was freezing cold when we arrived and we then waited around 40 minutes to be served our drinks despite their being only 2 other customers. The starters were very good, but oh dear the main courses were nothing short of abysmal. The beef rendang was so tough and dry it must have been left over from a few days before. It was impossible to swallow the beef without copious water to wash it down. It was chokingly dry. Likewise the chicken was as dry as a bone and totally unpallatable.After a mouthful or two we complained to the owner who quite literally couldn't care less a out the quality of the food. He refused point blank to do anything and insisted the food was freshly cooked where there was no way on earth a chicken could be so dry even if he'd started cooking it an hour before we arrived. After much complaint and not wanting to cause a scene we just asked for the bill and left. The manager grudgingly game us our drinks for free but we still ended up paying £76 for food we xould not and did not eat. The plates remained on the table barely touched. We were so embarrassed that we took our friends to this place and at the appalling behaviour of the owner. We now have to contact our other friends that we recommended Sambal Tukmis to. I have never known a restaurant to go downhill so tragically. If the owner had just held his hands up and said "you know what, we are really having a bad day" it could have been so different, but he was bullish, arrogant and clearly couldn't give a damn as long as he got his money. He even had the audacity to suggest we didn't know Malaysian food not knowing that we have spent much, much time over the years in Malaysia and Singapore.

We visited this restaurant today with our Malaysian family and thoroughly enjoyed every single thing we ordered! You must try the roti, chicken satay and nasi goreng. Very authentic and reasonably priced. Worth the walk up the road from central Bournemouth.

Oh my goodness, this is without doubt some of the best food I've had EVER! Cannot recommend enough. Whether it's a takeaway or eat in, the experience will be just as good. The dhal and nasi goreng is my favourites. Will go back and back again.

Bring your own bottle, great prices - 2 starters, 2 mains and a side for just over £30. Keep an eye on their specials board as well. Service couldn't be better, always friendly and bending over backwards to make you happy. Best place to take friends as we have done on multiple occasions.

I loved the food at this restaurant and have been visiting regularly since it opens. Unfortunately the only thing is that the standard of the food varies a lot. For example sometimes one get a fair amount of the complimentary spicy prawn crackers and other times get 3 pieces in a large bowl. Same with certain dishes , a whole boiled egg reduced to 1/2 portion. The worst is the ice Kachang, a Malaysian dessert. It’s no where near what it should be. 3 times I had it and all it contains were different colour jelly. No cream corn and red beans. Once I was eating it halfway when the staff came to give me the sugar malacca, brown sugar which is one of the essential ingredient.

We regularly get takeaways from Sambal and the food is excellent and very high quality. Having lived in Malaysia for many years I can say this food is authentic and the reviews saying it isn’t are very unfair and obviously don’t know what Malaysian food is like. Absolutely one of the best restaurants for tasty food in Bournemouth!

Drive past this place all the time and was very excited that we had a new reasturant to try in Bournemouth. On a wet and windy evening we decided to order takeaway in.

I've been here as a group and solo. Simple but tasteful decor with friendly, attentive service. Food is beautifully presented and tasty. And with a BYO booze policy I was able to enjoy with wine bit there are plenty of soft drink options also.

Wonderfully friendly people from the moment you enter. The limited menu (a good thing) is absolutely sufficient for non vegetarian / vegans but limiting for those who don’t eat fish / meat. Small selection of starters and sides and main choices of Noodle, Rice, dishes with a slight emphasis on ‘Street Food’. The Roti are the best I have eaten at home or in a restaurant; the Sambal Chicken also the best I have eaten and they willingly made it extra hot for me. We weren’t alone though in our order initially being incomplete; it’s not a language, nor a customer service issue, it is, I think, disorganisation. Despite this I plan to return regularly. National Rail 3 minutes away, taxi next door and on yellow bus route.

The waiter that greeted us was very kind. My friend doesn't like spicy food, and he calmly explained all the dishes to her, even brought us a sample of sweet chili to try. The watermelon juice was refreshing and delicious. We also got positively surprised with the coffee. We just didn't like the fact that the food took a long time. We had waited for around 40 minutes, and a waitress came to say to me that they didn't have any beef, if I would accept chicken instead. At this point we thought the food would be ready! And the place wasn't full.

Personally i really enjoyed the food but my daughter and her partner who have been to Malaysia said it wasn't very authentic for them.

This is a very relaxed informal restaurant serving a variety of very tasty exceptionally good value food, We ordered a selection of dished from across the menu to share which was a good way to try the different types of food (street food, small plates etc). It is a BYO restaurant. Good place for informal dinner which is a bit different from the main stream.

Went for a meal recently during our stay at Christchurch. As a malaysian that have been living in the UK for more than 16 years I think the food that was served here nothing close to malaysian food. We ordered nasi lemak (the sambal taste as if it was not cook properly and was coming out from the blender), the coconut rice doesn't taste coconut rice at all, the rendang taste as if it was cooked days ago and doesn't taste rendang, ordered two different fried rice and taste awful. The drinks were so good. we ordered milo ais, teh tarik and watermelon juice. I will definitely not going back to this place ever again.

I came for a meal here with my partner, who has very strict dietary requirements (AIP diet) and the chef here went far above and beyond the call of duty to cater to him, including working with him through the menu, AIP cheatsheet and ingredients list to create a meal he could not only eat but really enjoy. We haven't been able to eat out anywhere in so long and these amazing folks enabled us to have our anniversary date.

This interesting restaurant offers a taste of Malaysian food, especially street food. The service is warm and friendly; the decor is basic; and the food is not expensive. It makes a fun night out for reasonable cost. There is no alcohol license so it’s BYO if you want a drink with your meal. Worth a try for something different.

My partner & I have been meaning to visit for the last 6 months & we certainly won’t be waiting another 6 to return. Incredible tasty fragrant authentic food in a relaxed environment & you can even take your own drinks in with you (there’s a shop next door). The staff are really accommodating & friendly & were happy to adapt my dish of nasi goreng to be veggie. My partner said his beef rendang was the best he’d had. The mango salad was incredible. If we’d had room to fit in a homemade pudding we would have! We’ll be arranging a trip back with a larger group of friends & also using their takeaway delivery service. A must visit for locals & those on holiday to bournemouth sampling delicious Malaysian food.

My girlfriend and i stumbled across this restaurant randomly and having never seem a Malaysian restaurant before we had to try it.

We had the nasi lemak which is the coconut rice on banana leaf and with fried chicken and another one with the rendang beef.

Been to Sambal Tumis a few times - never been disappointed. Amazing food, great service and charming staff! Generous portions at very good prices. Loved it - firm favourite!! Will definitely be back.

This is a wonderful little family run place which specialises in Malaysian cuisine. The ambience is really pleasant. The staff especially courteous and ever ready to help with explaining the various dishes on the menu. The drinks are different and delicious. The food was fantastic.

We had never tried Malaysian Cuisine before and what a treat! You must like spicy food as they do remind you and it is a cross between Thai, Indian and Chinese I suppose. The owner was so welcoming and helpful, the food was great and the bonus is that you take you own wine! Will definitely visit again when I am in Bournemouth.

Excellent food could not criticise anything about the restaurant and service .. chicken wings to die for and lime and coconut ice cream with a banana spring roll was heaven . Will be returning very soon

We really enjoyed our dinner here - we had the aubergine, nasi goreng and some satay all of which was delicious. Only slight issue was that we did ask the waitress at the beginning of the meal what was mildly spiced and ordered accordingly. Turns out our ‘mildly hot’ is quite different from theirs! Completely fine for me but at the upper end of my husbands’ tolerance. Otherwise helpful service and is BYO with an off licence next door.

We tried this restaurant with friends on a quiet Wednesday evening in the new year.

After visiting this great restaurant on several occasions I thought it was about time to write a review. Every time we go there the staff are so helpful and friendly, happy to talk you through the menu, even to help you not order too much food but we always do. The food is fresh, tasty and spicey and cooked to order. Good size portions and you can choose a selection of smaller dishes to get a flavour of everything if you want. Good range of meat and vegetarian dishes as well. They don’t serve alcohol but you can bring your own and they supply glasses and no corkage charge so the bill is always reasonable. Would highly recommend this place, get there early as some dishes sell out fast.

We have now visited this place twice and it has yet to disappoint. Staff are very friendly and helpful when choosing from the menu. Food looks great and tastes fantastic. We will definitely return many more times when in Bournemouth. Sorry no pictures we were to busy enjoying our meal

This was my second, and my husband’s first visit to this delightful restaurant. I had been with friends a month previously.

My niece had a takeaway from this restaurant a couple of weeks ago and rated it very highly so the next best thing is to go in and have dinner.

Our friends turn to pick a restaurant this time so we came here. It was our first time. We were welcomed into the restaurant and shown to our table. They don't have a license so we had taken our own drinks. They were happy to get us some glasses and there was no corkage charge. We all had a starter and main. Service was excellent and the staff were very friendly. The food was like nothing I had ever tasted before. Distinctly unique and plenty of it. I had chicken satay to start and it was delicious. For main I had beef rending. It was quite spicy and nice. My wife had a different main course but there was so much of it I had to help her finish. It was also extremely nice. I would have what she had next time. All in all we had a fantastic evening and fabulous food. Can't wait to go back. Would highly recommend

Had lunch there and very impressed with the food served and the friendliness of the waitress. The beef rendang was excellent as was the sambal squid. Could have done with a larger portion of the squid. Some very interesting dishes on the menu. Flavours made me feel like being ion Malaysia. Looking forward to going back to try some other dishes.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that a Malaysian restaurant was opening up in Bournemouth. Being Singaporean myself, I was missing my home cuisine and Sambal Tumis has been a home away from home for me.

Paid £15 for the tiniest bit of chicken, squid rest of the dish was bulked up with plain white rice and tasteless veg with a very watery sweet chilli sauce. Really bad would never go back

We've visited Sambal Tumis on 3 occasions now trying different dishes on each visit. If you've never eaten Malaysian food before check this out - it's absolutely delicious! Lovely cosy restaurant with the nicest possible staff who made us feel so welcome. Really can't fault it - it's become a firm favourite for us. Excellent choice and good prices. A+++

After being recommended Sambal Tumis by a friend I can say it was excellent!! We tried a variety of dishes, service and staff excellent and so friendly - a hidden gem! We were so shocked at how reasonably priced it was !!! A must!!

I was fortunate enough to live in Malaysia when I was younger. The flavours here took me back to my childhood. Loved every morsel. We've since ordered take away from here a couple of times and again haven't been disappointed. Thank You Sambal Tunis 😀

Have visited twice in the past few weeks and can easily say the food is authentic as Malay cuisine comes, between us we have tried the nasi lemak, nasi goreng, laksa (a tip, ask for half and half noodles), mee goreng, char kway teow and two lots of cendol! All highly authentic, fantastic service and staff. Brilliant to see Malay cuisine in Bournemouth and not have to go to London to get our fix! Sedap!

Went there for dinner with my best friend who has never been to Malaysia (I grew up there and just came back from a trip to Penang) and it honestly felt like I was eating dishes straight from a local food stall.

In anticipation of a trip to Malaysia next year we wanted to try this place and are so pleased that we did. Very friendly and helpful staff who are happy to advise and recommend. Clearly had a few local regulars in when we visited though it's only been open a few months and we will certainly be returning soon.

Sambal Tunis really the place to go if you like authentic Malaysian street food. We ordered a chicken satay starter and chicken wings, so yummy. Then had their signature dish Nasi Lemak.everything freshly cooked. Tasty and won’t break the bank.

I am left disappointed after today's visit. The restaurant is as nice as it was my previous visits but it seems that the food is going through a process of adjustment to local taste and I can no more claim that it is authentic Malaysian. It is still tasty but not quite the same. Such a shame.
