First visit in a few months. I was really looking forward to some hot, thick toast and a pot of chunky marmalade. Very disappointed, the toast arrived cold and was from a standard thin sliced loaf, tasted like cardboard and the marmalade just the standard Wilkins mini jar. My husbands sausage sandwich was much the same quality, 2 standard thin slices, no butter, not appetising at all. What a shame.

Absolutely vile! Having been here several years ago, we popped in for lunch. We really should have left when we saw the very sad looking sweet treats displayed in a chill cabinet. Hubby fancied a toastie so stupidly,we stayed. Being a store which caters for the Agricultural Trade as well as the general public, you would expect local producers to be show-cased in their cafe. I only the mention of one local butcher and that was in relation to cold meats. You choose a table and then place your order. The table we had chosen was dirty but even though we gave the table number, no one came to wipe it. The two Ham and Cheese Toasties ordered were vile! The cheapest bread - asked for wholemeal and received light beige, cheap cheese very little of it and a very small quantity of ham - the ham was ok (ish). The said toasties were accompanied by sliced iceberg lettuce, chopped cherry tomatoes (one was black, crisps and some ‘slop’ - I think it was supposed to be coleslaw but it had a serious identity crisis! Now to the coffee, we asked for this to be served with the food, which to be fair, did happen. However, it was so strong it was undrinkable! We left, I scraped the ham and what little cheese there was off the toastie, leaving the beige slices calling themselves bread. My husband ate a little more. Please don’t give this place your hard earned cash - it just doesn’t deserve it!

Had breakfast at sammies with the wife. Food as always was very good. The big downside was the background music. It was the most depressing piece of music and they only had one tune which was on a loop. I wasn’t depressed when I went it but was by the time I left.

This is a busy cafe upstairs in the huge Sam Turner’s cafe farm shop. There is a very good array of hot and cold food. We opted for a caramel shortbread and peppermint slice. Both delicious.

The staff are lovely here and they were very welcoming. The choice of food is amazing. I chose the ploughman’s lunch with ham and it wasn’t my best ever decision. There was some tasty cheese, ham, coleslaw and pickled onions with some pickle. There was also a thin and flaccid slice of bread. Most of the other food was green leaves and peppers. There just wasn’t much substance for the price. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her sausage beans and chips.

The whole place was a mess. Toilets disgusting, server walking around wiping tables with a cloth smelling strongly of bleach. No scrambled egg they said, no eggs yet trays of eggs sitting on work top in kitchen. Food burnt so could no eat it, showed it to server who shrugged her shoulders. As we left we complained to a man on the checkout and he said they were short staffed. No intention of going again.

Very poor generally today. Ordered a large americano . It vas very small and not very nice . Cups are radically smaller since my last visit and the coffee was poorer too. Cranberry and brie toasty was edible but just the cheapest sliced bread a few crisps and a small bit of lettuce . Coleslaw was ok. Cutlery was streaky and greasy looking not rectified on complaint . A big drop in standards since my last visit . The cafe was less than half full at lunchtime .. its usually jammed full . Serice was fairly slow too.. table not cleaned . Most vacant tables not cleared . Caramel shortbread wss nice

Was disappointed on visit Saturday, granted it was busy but no excuse for unhygienic tables. Pots were being removed too slowly so people were sitting before tables wiped clean. Sign as you enter says find a tale before you order! Our table had food on chair and floor, table had not been sprayed. I’m sorry it put me off so didn’t matter that coffee was good. Won’t rush back.

Our visit today was a 2nd or 3rd chance, the other visits for breakfast/ lunch being pretty dire too. I had scrambled egg and white toast… not difficult, not haute cuisine. The plate was cold and ultimately so were the eggs. The toast was merely threatened with heat on one side the other remained …well like bread. I ate it, (insert green vomiting emoji here) I was hungry so sue me! Then we get to tea, I find the tea in this establishment quite strong so asked for the tea bag to be left out of the tea pot(so I can decide the strength of my cuppa) it was met with pursed lips… don’t know why, not a tricky thing to master. My husbands food was also cold, not a nice consistency to eat smoked salmon and pancakes ! So in conclusion don’t ask for anything that might tax the kitchen staff such as the food hot when it’s supposed to be and don’t mess with the beverages.Jokey review, but in all honesty it’s very annoying, it used to be such a pleasant place with good food. Shame . End of further visits. End of review.

I have enjoyed meals and snacks here many times but today I was very disappointed. I had to return the chips, served with the chicken and bacon pie, as they were uncooked in the middle. I was brought a bowl of fresh chips but the inedible ones were left on my plate and I had nowhere to put them. The pastry on the pie was stodgy and needed to be cooked for longer.I was also surprised to see a member of staff behind the counter preparing hot drinks wearing her mask on her chin, not covering either her mouth or nose.

The best and safest dining out experience we've had in all the long 6 months since we've been suffering under the difficult covid situation. Tables very well spaced and cleaned within an inch of their life after each use as were the chairs, in spite of waitresses saying they were short staffed. Instructions as to what we should do very clearly explained in a friendly and pleasant manner. We were prepared for a long wait because of them being short staffed but our food appeared surprisingly quickly and was delicious with the portions being amazingly generous. Keep up the good work, you're doing everything right and then some !!

This was a visit to purchase Barbour clothing and while there had breakfast in the upstairs cafe, although we go here fairly often we felt this time there was a lack of atmosphere (probably not helped by the Covid situation)the service was a lot slower than usual but we got served and everything was fine We duly purchased the clothing we came for and continued to look around downstairs where we inadvertently strayed past a huge No Public entry sign ( In a world of our own) where we were advised by a very polite and friendly member of staff this area was out of bounds. Due credit to that chap for good customer skills. We always buy much more than we come for as this place is like no other for people like us with excellent prices to boot, I usually say if you can’t get it at Sam’s you can’t get it.

Very disappointed at the lack of staff and care taken to adhere to Covid requirements. People were sitting at tables that were not cleared ( Clearly not heard of cross infection) the reason why they were not cleared was they was no staff to clear 1 poor girl who was trying her best and using the same cloth to clean tables over and over again! Chairs were not wiped down - it was not an enjoyable experience. I will not be visiting anytime again soon. Which is a shame as the staff are always lovely and the food is great - but they are very clearly short staffed and Sam Turners cutting corners and putting clients wellbeing at risk.

I've had a bit of a love/hate relationship with Sam turners cafe. One visit it can be great, the next a bit iffy. We called in on a Saturday morning for some breakfast. Hubby had his usual full English and I went for scrambled eggs and mushrooms on toast. With drinks it was £14.00 which isn't bad. The ladies serving us were great - they were older (sorry!!!) but looked happy to be at work and interacted well with us. It makes such a difference. Visited this venue and loved the old world atmosphere and service apart from the outside garden plants sector. Here we saw lots of neglected dying plants starved of water on a boiling hot day whilst a couple of young members of staff sat in a hut close by chatting together about their private lives. Such a shame that they hadn't the foresight to at least give the plants a drink instead of chatting with each other. It made me feel they were totally unsuitable for the job. So many beautiful plants absolutely flagging under a hot sun whilst they past their time flirting.

Have had a few mediocre meals here recently I was very disappointed today. I ordered a jacket potato with prawns and salad. My issue was with the salad leaves. To say these had seen better days was an understatement. I pulled out the most brown edged and positively slimy and discoloured ones and asked the waitress to return my plate to the kitchen expressing my disappointment. On her return she apologised and assured me the salad leaves were fresh everyday, and she had been told it was due to sweating in the plastic bag. What a load of rubbish! My salad leaves don’t sweat and turn brown within hours of purchase from a supermarket. Why isn’t someone looking at what they are serving??? I won’t be returning here in a hurry.

Visited here this morning, ordered 2 full English breakfasts... £7.60 each..expected the works . Oh my god ! Was going to complain.... But my other half just said 'we won't come back' please don't , I honestly thought they'd made a mistake and they'd forgotten, tomatoes , mushrooms, another sausage, fried bread possibly and hash browns ( for the price) So what you actually get is one sausage, 2 rashers of bacon, a piece of black pudding ( I think !as my other half ordered the breakfast and was asked if he wanted it... Might have cost extra for all we know) and a fried egg... And some beans.. Which I didn't have as I don't personally like them wasn't offered an alternative, nor was the price reduced.....Plus a couple of slices of very underdone toast. What a total rip off, I'm sorry . Doesn't even include your drink. The queue although it was short, was taking a ridiculous amount of time to go through,it's totally disorganised, came here a week or so ago with a friend, the same member of staff was sat once again having her break.... Although she's entitled of course.. think she may be management yet when she did go back to work, dusted the table with something... Left half the muck on the table. Then dissappeared, possibly to kitchen... Yet still no knives, tables dirty, floors filthy, ages waiting in queue.... List goes on... Very disappointed . Needs a def shake up... Reorganising ordering system, staff, etc And def sort the full English out. 1 egg, 1 sausage, 2 rashers of bacon, maybe the1 piece of black pudding, 1 scoop of baked beans, 2 bits of toast... £7.60 !!!!!!! Absolutely disgusting price. Wouldn't bother .

Not visited this cafe for a while so we were very disappointed on a recent visit by how much it’s changed. At 2 pm it was full of people with babies and toddlers we thought we had stumbled into a nursery. The staff are far from friendly just serving seemed to be an effort no smile or welcome. When the food arrived it looked like it had been thrown together my toasted sandwich had ousted cheese stuck on the bottom, the chips we shared were awful can’t determine what the taste was the coffee was disgusting a really tasteless cappuccino. One of us was quite poorly after eating the very greasy meal the other felt dreadful but hadn’t thankfully eaten much. Sam Turners cafe/Restaurant has always provided freshly prepared food at very sensible prices and been VERY GOOD value for money. Unfortunately the prices have been reviewed, inevitably UPWARDS, which for the most part means it is still fairly reasonable, with the BIG EXCEPTION of the pots of jam or marmalade, which have increased from 20p per portion to 35p per portion. There's inflation and down right "Rip off", Sammie's cafe has adopted the later option.

Always had a good meal previously, the service was quick and efficient. Unfortunately the sandwich in which I had ordered was made with stale bread. That affected the quality of the sandwich.

My wife and I used to frequent this cafe quite a lot in 2016, then by 2017 sadly the Standards had dropped badly.

Sunday morning breakfast: perfect start to the day. Everything cooked perfectly, marvellous fresh bread toasted and sliced how it should be, thickly. Coffee in a good big mug and a good flavour. Lovely friendly staff, who look happy in their job. No better way to start the day. Will we we go back, oh yes and regularly.

Sam Turners is not technically a restaurant. The site on the Darlington road is mixture of Farming, gardening and building supplies. Recently an addition within the building included a very large cafe/restaurant. First impressions, well laid out facilities, very helpful and friendly staff and very clean. You can have a snack, coffee, main meals, soup, salad and other choices delivered to your table. We found the food very good and reasonable prices. It was a pretty good experience.Access easy, an overflow car park, disabled car parking, level floors, lift to cafe/restaurant. We will probably go there again when next in Northallerton.

Every time I am in Northallerton with work I come here for lunch. It has daily specials which are very nice. Honey mustard chicken with chips and salad has to be my all time favourite if on the specials board. The chips and coleslaw are especially nice. Coffees could be better as I do like a good latte. The cakes are top notch - can recommend the cheesecake and lemon meringue pie. Would agree with some of the other reviews that the staff aren't the friendliest at times but I come for the food and not to sit with them.

Decided to call in at the Cafe with my wife and 2 toddlers. We ordered 2 sandwiches. Our food was brought to us by a young dark haired waitress. 2 plates where slammed down on the table with a very curt "enjoy ". Bad enough but the sandwiches consisted of 2 stale chewy dry bread buns . One with two rashes of bacon and the other with 2 sliced sausages. Poor service and poor food. Definitely gone down hill.

The food, choice and service are second to none. Only top grade ingredients are used and portions are "man-sized". This is our first choice for lunch or afternoon snack and the staff work hard to provide an excellent service

We have been eating at Sam Turners in Northallerton for a long time and always enjoyed the food, but on our latest visit today we had Corned Beef Pie ,Chips and Beans, The meal was served very fast and was not really hot , The chips were very scrappy and obviously warmed up. I'm not sure if they have changed the Cook but It has put us off going there again, which is a shame , I would have sooner waited a little longer and had a hot meal and proper chips.

We had heard that Sam turners had a good reputation for food so having taken our granddaughter swimming decided to drive out of our way and give it a go for our lunch. Having ordered chicken and bacon pie for two and sausage for our granddaughter out it came. One sausage on the plate wasn't really enough by any bodies standards but at least it was better than the pile of chips - if you can call them chips. On our plate we're crispy little bits of potato that had obviously been left overs from the day before and warmed up. Being a couple that never really complain we ate what we could, the pie was I have to say quite tasty, along with the tablespoon of peas on the side. As we left a waitress was standing there so I did mention our problem to which she replied ok I'll tell the cook and walked off in the opposite direction not even looking at us never mind really hearing what we had to say. I'm afraid that was our first and last visit and have to agree to previous reviews Sam Turner staff need a lesson in customer service and a lowering of the prices.

Every time we come here, with family or as a couple the food has been amazing. Proper home made food and the prices aren't too high. Would highly recommend to anyone.

Me and my wife stopped here for breakfast. Good tasty food and decent portion sizes. The prices were around what you would pay anywhere else. My only criticism is that the staff came across as a bit numb and not very welcoming. Still good though.

Went in already had booked a table took 30 mins to get sat down. No table service. Took 1.30hours for food once ordered. Food on floor table not cleaned. Once people had left they did not clear up ( there was not many people in there either). Had ran out of most food on the menu. We told them we had a broccoli allergy so when they did not have most of the veg we requested. They piled the plate with broccoli. As soon as we walked in it smelled of fish. Once the food had come we had hard meat undercooked chips and the nana said “it was the worst meal of her life” (she is eighty and bearing in mines she was in an orphanage where they did not give good food back then).

The staff were extremely friendly and went above and beyond for any request we had. Nothing was too much effort.

My husband and I booked in with friends for Sunday lunch today and quite frankly the service and the food was appalling. The young lad who took our order was surly and unfriendly. We waited nearly an hour for our food which was over cooked and horrible when it arrived. The meat and roast potatoes ( which were so overcooked they were dried out and crispy) were served with no veg or gravy. We eventually had to go to the bar and ask for the veg which came in a small square pot which wouldn’t have been enough for one person never mind the three of us who had ordered the roast dinner. The veg was also over cooked and tasteless. Meanwhile the rest of the meal had gone cold. Even the dessert I had of a chocolate sundae was off. Never again…
