Salty Olive in Wokingham

My friend and I meet up once a month for dinner and a girls catch up. We enjoy food so pick a different restaurant each time, we’ve both been super excited about trying salty olive for ages. Based on the reviews I was expected a taste sensation, I couldn’t have been more disappointed. Firstly the staff are great, place is lovely and spotlessly clean. We also weren’t fussed about the process of going up to the counter to pick your food etc, The food. Underwhelming. Tasteless. Foods that were served cold that should only ever be served hot like tempura prawns, were just yuk! We had about 8 dishes between us and all I ate was some coleslaw that was delicious! The 2 hot dishes, were barely warm and zero taste. We were gutted and would unfortunately not return or recommend. Went to the pub and ordered some chips as I was starving!

The food was very tasty, and the restaurant is modern and the staff seem friendly. However, we found the service was disappointing. We had to go and collect our cold dishes, we had to walk to the blackboard to select hot dishes (no menus), we had to go and ask someone to clear our table, we had to go and ask for drinks and we also had to go and ask for our bill. I prefer to have table service in a restaurant.

Having a late dinner at Salty Olive was overall delightful experience. Food was fresh, with soul and super tasty. Hats off to the staff, they were friendly and attentive. Will definitely visit again. Ps: some more authentic Spanish desserts please.

Booked a table with 5 friends on a Friday evening. Was very busy and a nice atmosphere. I arrived early and asked if it would be okay to have a drink whilst I waited for the rest of the group which wasn’t a problem. Waited approx 10 mins before I was approached to order my solo drink - but it was very busy. When my glass of wine arrived the glass was filthy, covered in lipstick. Brought it to waitresses attention and apology was offered and drink changed - disappointing start. When the rest of my friends arrived we were seated. A waitress took our drink order but nothing was explained to us about ordering food. None of us had been before so were unsure what to do. When we asked it was explained that the cold food was like a buffet to go up and pick yourself and hot food you order and it comes as and when it’s ready - absolutely fine. When the bottle of wine we ordered arrived it was plonked on the table next to us. No offer to taste (not that we wanted it) but even to pour the first glass would have been nice. We had white wine but weren’t given any kind of ice bucket or cooler for it so as the evening progressed inevitably it warmed up. When we went up to get cold food there was very little left so we returned to the table whilst they replenished it. Hot food that we ordered arrived in good time. Overall the food we had was very good - both hot and cold dishes and the restaurant had a really nice buzzy atmosphere. The service on this occasion let it down. Attention to detail with dirty glasses, no explanation of menu and warm white wine. Always happy to tip good service but felt the service charge was a bit cheeky on this occasion as we actually received very minimal service.

I visited for the first time with some friends on a busy Friday evening. I have to say that from start to finish this place was lovely. The staff were so attentive and friendly and the food was authentic and absolutely delicious. I’d highly recommend the patatas bravas, croquettes and mini burgers. It’s so nice to have independent and authentic places like this in Wokingham. I can’t wait to go back.

Came here for our wedding anniversary and was honestly blown away. Our table wasn’t quite ready as we arrived later than planned, and to our delight we were treated to two complimentary glasses of cava while we waited. For dinner we were seated towards the back restaurant end. The whole place is beautifully decorated, modern and stylish. The food was really delicious and loved the relaxed atmosphere. Staff were so helpful and polite, great music. Will certainly return and highly recommend.

The food is outstanding. Flavours are so well balanced and the dishes were simply delicious. Great atmosphere, decor is gorgeous and the service was attentive. Worth every penny. I wish we lived nearer as I’d definitely have my hen night/ wedding party here. An experience not to be missed.

Extortion!! Limited menu part of which you have to go to the counter and pick yourself. Why we were charged £14.50 for service when the first part of the meal you get yourself is beyond me. I had the equivalent of a findus crispy pancake and a piece of bread no bigger than the palm of my hand. Honestly I'd rather eat grass at least that's accordingly priced

I had my baby shower at Salty Olive, Susannah and the team were so so helpful from our first meeting and throughout. The food was amazing, there wasn’t enough they could do for us and I would 100% recommend them to anyone considering an event or just to pop in for a drink! The service was exceptional and Susannah always seemed to turn up every time I was thinking about needing a new drink with great recommendations! We were a large group of over 30 people and this did not phase the team! Thank you so much for making such a special event even better! I am so grateful for everything you have done for us! Food was excellent and the service from Gwen and Kieran was friendly and helpful. We visited mid-week and were very early in the evening on a cold February night so there was no problem getting a table - what we would say is that it deserves to be busier! Well worth wandering away from the main street for.

We came for lunch at the Salty Olive after running the Wokingham half marathon, and we had such a great experience! Friendly staff that made us feel welcome, took the time to explain the dishes and the food was really outstanding. The ambience is relaxing, a great bar with many dishes on display to help you choose. So different and a more enjoyable experience than going to a restuarant chain - Salty Olive definitely have a more personal touch. Definitely recommend this place!

Lovely new bar/dining experience in Wokingham. Nice to have something a bit different, as well as authentic. A lively bar/restaurant with multiple dining options, serving Spanish Tapas meals. The range of food is very wide, enough to suit all tastes. The quality of fresh produce was very evident, and the tastes of everything we had was very enjoyable. Would recommend.

Thank you Salty Olive for another amazing night this time for a valentines evening with my husband. Fantastic service all round we are always so welcomed by the staff who are so attentive and the food was excellent. Live music was great and a fun atmosphere for couples and groups. A must try at this wonderful restaurant in the heart of Wokingham. Along with a brilliant chef thank you for the tasty food.

I’d wanted to try here for ages and we finally got round to it on our anniversary. I had booked the back room but when we arrived I preferred the bar seating so they were able to move us to here. It seems they are dog friendly in this bit as well as there was a little dog with the couple next to us. We had a lot of food - around 7 cold dishes, patatas bravas, padron peppers, chilli prawns and beef sliders, plus a couple of glasses of wine each and was around £85 including tip which I thought was very reasonable! Definitely will be coming back, excellent addition to Wokingham

I visited the Salty Olive on a whim after wanting to try somewhere new to eat amongst the vast selection of eateries in Wokingham. The food is absolutely delicious - varied and prepared fresh, and with an environment designed for socialising, this place hits the nail on the head. It is relaxed and inviting. If you want fast food where you eat and run, it's not really designed for you, and for that reason I love it! I love being able to sit for periods of time relaxing and socialising with friends and family whilst a steady flow of small plates and good wine feed the conversation. Following the meal I asked if the venue can be hired for private events...and so was born my 40th birthday party at the Salty Olive. Susannah and her team could not have been more helpful and accommodating in the creation of my party. From the planning, the budgeting, the guest list, and the play list, to the bespoke cocktail welcome drink, incredible food and my pyramid of Portuguese tarts, the event went off without a hitch. Everything was as I had expected and planned for, the staff made all my guests feel welcome and we were well attended throughout. Salty Olive is now my go to restaurant in Wokingham, whether I want a low key mid week meal out, or something more special.

What a great New Years Eve. Went for the set menu and there was more than enough food to keep us going over the 4 hours we were there. Lovely to have all the management and staff together at midnight doing a countdown and wishing everyone a happy new year while the band played. Many a year we have been in a restaurant and it would be "is it midnight now" ! Special thanks to our waiting staff who were so attentive and polite, and obviously well trained. Didn't rush us but were there when we needed something. We have been here a number of times with various family and friends and each experience has been great. We come here maybe a two or three times a month. We seem to find different atmospheres within this establishment. It’s never the same every time but after last time there is a rather interesting point. We always enjoy our time here generally however the staff always seem on edge when the older Welsh lady with red hair is on Is on shift and never are as friendly as they were before when she is not there. It really creates a different impression on the atmosphere here.

We held my husbands 50th birthday at the Salty Olive in Wokingham on Saturday evening and it was a complete triumph. From the impeccable service, the gorgeous cuisine and the electric atmosphere, in every possible way it exceeded our expectations. Susannah and her team were incredible, so attentive and my husband had the best time ever! Paul Zarb and his band were playing in the restaurant and the place was absolutely buzzing throughout the evening. I don't think one diner left until the music stopped. I would 200% recommend a visit to this delightful place. Thank you so much to the whole team for an amazing evening.

I went their with a friend after having the place during summer . However being black is not good l dragged my friend after being in leafy elephant. The music was good . However when my friend spoke to different waiter for second bottle we were treated like thiefs what he was told by one waiter was different. We was shown the door as theifs rather than customers who enjoyed the live music being played. Am sorry being BLACK is not good for you will not come whilst l did lovev your olives. Cant believe trying and talking to diffrent waiters had to get us thrown like criminals

We had the bottomless brunch and there was so much food and drinks. The food was so amazing and so tasty. The service was outstanding as well. We really enjoyed our time and will most definitely be back. Thank you.
