The Great House at Sonning, Coppa Club in Wokingham

Great food. My Sea Bass was outstanding. My wife's burger was good tasting but could have had a little more sauce. Kids food was great, especially the Mac n cheese. Well worth another visit.

The waiter was excellent! The food was delicious. The singer was amazing.

Booked Copa club for mothers day and it it was very poor. Food was very good, and fortunately it was a beautiful day, however thats where the positives stop. The staff were so poorly organised and mismanaged it was extremely disappointing. There were 4 people behind the bar, but only 1 of them actually serving customers which made ordering food and drinks clunky and very slow. There were numerous waiters standing around chatting and when asking them questions they just wanted to pass us on to someone else asap so they could go back to their conversation. It may not be part of their role, but it seems obvious to me that instead of standing around doing any of the following tasks; collecting dirty glasses from the numerous tables, assisting behind the bar, going round tables outside checking on customers, would have helped greatly. Our table number was not registered on the app making that functionality not possible. Furthermore when food did arrive it was under various different table numbers (which were not ours) causing confusion and frustration. The first food came out in a reasonable time (around 20 mins), which were two dishes for one person. The next item took another 20 minutes by which time the first person had finished eating and there were still 3 of us waiting for food. I understand that we had 2 orders from the kitchen and 3 from the outside bbq, but it seems reasonable to expect to be able to eat all together, but certainly not minimum 20 mins between each person and the next. After 1h 30m we had to go up to the bbq to check on our order, to find out that they didnt have a ticket for our table. This was extremely disappointing and if it hadn't been such a nice day it would have been horrendous. The manager was very kind and understanding, offering compensation and after triple checking with him what we were waiting to receive let us know that the food would be 10 mins which we were happy to hear. We finally got the next dish and 5 minutes later one of the two remaining burgers. This left a final burger and a potato salad. After a further 10 minutes, the chef behind the bbq came over to check if we had everything now, which should have been a glaringly obvious no. Thankfully he was extremely helpful and although he was having to get many tickets done he gave us a burger that I presume was supposed to be for another ticket. We never got the final potato salad, It wasn't worth waiting a further 2 hours for that. The manager gave us a few items off the final bill and was very apologetic. I understand that a place may have bad days and hopefully on a different day it would have all run smoothly. However, I will not be coming back anytime soon and would advise anyone else to probably avoid going here, which is such a shame when the location on a nice day is ideal.

Cute very understated hotel love the rooms and very comfortable! Linked restaurant is coppa club which has a great atmosphere dinning areas but I think over priced for what it provides on the menu.

Very nice hotel next to The River Thames at Sonning near Reading. Ideal for a nights stay if going to The Mill Theatre Restaurant just over the bridge. A good range of rooms of different sizes and prices. We've stayed in a few and all are very comfortable and modern with good decor. The basic rooms are a bit small so worth paying an extra tenner for the next size up. Prices have gone up since last year so shop around on line as you can find deals cheaper than their own website. For the first time I had a bad night's sleep which was due to a feather filled duvet but I discovered you can ask for feather free bed linen when you book. We also ask for a room away from the road as it's a busy route. Service is always good and the Coppa Club Restaurant and bar on the same site is good for drinks and food but it does get busy so book in advance, even for breakfast.

Attended for a wedding. Room was lovely, if not a little smaller than we're used to. Food was great and stay efficient, friendly and helpful.

Stayed for one night (Friday 29th November 2024) because we went to a show at The Mill at Sonning Theatre. Staff were very friendly, parking was easy and our room was cosy, warm, quiet and clean (Room number 40 in The Palace Yard part of the hotel). Dropped one star due to the showers poor pressure.

Highly recommended. Room clean and welcoming. Excellent showers. Staff very friendly. Great food. Recommend to book if you require a table. Came solo this time, no hesitation in coming again with my wife. A prize location

Worst steak ever, instead of medium extremely well done. Return it and got a well done with absolutely no seasoning. First time I dont eat a steak

Expensive. Nice for a meal and drinks by the river. Child friendly but children must be watched as on riverside. Dog friendly.

Staff were not on the ball. They were friendly but not attentive and we kept having to ask for things, like taking our order even though it wasn't busy. Prices are high so you expect a lot better.

I had lunch here for my daughter’s birthday. It’s such a lovely location and the food and service were great. We reserved an igloo which was delightful. There is also plenty of parking. We went for a walk along the river afterwards which completed a lovely afternoon.

Very frustrated with our experience here. We stayed for one night for a friend’s wedding nearby on 31 July. It’s now a month later and we’re still dealing with parking issues. First we were issued a parking ticket even though we followed the instructions for parking and shared our car details with reception. The hotel was able to waive this fee but now our rental car company charged a £46 administrative fee for dealing with the ticket which the hotel will not cover. Do not stay here and risk the ongoing headache and fees associated with parking.

Beautiful place good atmosphere really popular not great for parking but really nice place to go especially the pods in the beautiful garden gets very busy so book a pod or table before you go.

Gorgeous place right on the river

Booked 3 months prior plus paid for room. On arrival didn't have my booking and wanted to charge me again I had email copy stating paid in full. Last minute had to take our dog but had left a message to say that but it hadn't been picked up. 3 emails to say fast registration so booked the car on arrival had to do it again. Some staff quite rude But mostly dog lovers and polite. Wouldn't recommend or stay again This was to celebrate my husbands 60th with family woi had travelled from North of England

Great place to stay especially with the attached Coppa Club. Reception were very efficient and charming, cleanliness of the room excellent and a good shower and bathroom with good quality toiletries. One major problem but fairly understandable was the room was in the top of the building which essentially is attic space. The day was exceptionally hot and the room at night was unbelievably hot, they need aircon the supplied large fan was only blowing the hot air around. Food at the Coppa was super staff excellent and views were brilliant from the gardens etc.

This review is for the restaurant, as my wife and I just made reservations for dinner. We were traveling from Chicago and staying in London, but wanted to include a day trip to Stonehenge. This was a wonderful spot for a special meal to celebrate. I made reservations at the igloo in advance, and it did not disappoint. Despite the rain (English weather...), the staff helped to make the meal a memorable one! I definitely recommend visiting for a meal, especially if the weather is nicer. If you can book and igloo or reserve outdoor seating, the location is beautiful. 5/5 :)

The perfect little weekend away in February - we stayed at The Great House for 2 nights and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Check in was smooth and easy, price was excellent for the facilities, and the bedroom was gorgeous. Will definitely visit again.
