Salt & Vinegar in Glasgow City

Honestly think we were served by nicest waiter ever. Smiley and warm service. The service was super fast and food and drinks came so fast and everything was lovely. Even our dessert didn’t disappoint. Would definitely recommend.

Fish was good but the rest not so good. Macaroni cheese - not good. Chips - definitely on the undercooked side. Atmos - kinda dead. The word search on the kids menu was certainly different! And the guys toilets - neither seat lid stayed up so had to sit down. Then room so small and funny shaped that you're basically under the hand drier while having a sit down wee. Hand drier kept coming on, obviously - which made for a somewhat awkward and hot wee!

Food poisoning! Writing this review after getting sick from here, me and my partner are both sick we ordered the same dish. Restaurant staff were alright but it is very small and just eat drivers in and out every 5 mins right next to where you sit is annoying but getting sick from here is not what I expected when going out for my birthday

We stopped in at this establishment for fish ‘n’ chips and I can honestly say it was very good. The food that was presented to us was freshly cooked and the flavour and freshness of the fish ‘n’ chips was first class ! If like me, you like freshly prepared fish ‘n’ chips then look no further than this establishment. The only negative that comes to mind is their pricing structure for side dishes and drinks. £3.30 for a can of coke, that one can purchase for 50p in a supermarket is very excessive, along with a pot of tea for one, which contains one tea bag. As for bread and butter or indeed pickled onions, remember to take your credit card or “ Gas ‘n’ air “ 😱 I realise that VAT is added when eating in the restaurant and the owners need to make a profit, however at the prices they charge, one would say it’s profiteering ! Come on guys …. Play fair …!

I recently went in for the afternoon special at £10.15 Food was great but was very disappointed that they charged £3.15 for a can of coke. After we finished we were not asked if we would like tea, which was part of the deal. Overall a good experience but not with their drinks pricing. Come on this is Shawlands and not exactly Mayfair.

Muy mala recepción pidió mesa que acababa de terminar contada en una abrumada mansión que tenía que ser limpiada puedo entender pedido realizado esperó veinte minutos para que le dijeran que el pedido se había perdido esperó otros quince minutos pidió salsa en la que arrojada sobre la mesa la comida estaba bien presentada y sabrosa lástima sobre el personal no volverá y no recomendará 😞

The fish is good here, one of the better fish and chips in Glasgow. Nice people serving. Fish and chips is not as cheap as it once was, but they do a good lunch take away deal and fish tea to sit in

This was my first visit today after seeing their haddock in breadcrumbs on the web page months ago. I had the fish tea and was not disappointed. Highly delighted with the whole meal. Service was fine. No complaints about the atmosphere I was the only one in at the time. Look forward to returning sometime. 👍

Lovely sit in restaurant, friendly staff and service was quick. Tidy toilets. Parking is very limited due to the location of property, (on main road).

We had a really lovely - and extremely reasonably priced - meal here. The menu has a great mix of chip shop items and pastas, but I went for risotto which was delicious! It was a piping hot, very generous serving and perfectly cooked, as was my partner's scampi

This review is for the Resturant side only. I have been coming to this place since it opened but never had an experience like this in my life. Before I continue just want to say the staff at the takeaway side are phenomenal and amazing. This review is only for the restaurant side. The male staff members attitude stank, when we arrived, wasn't happy to see us, spoke down to us, only reason I stayed and had a meal there was because my partner said I am just thinking that as I was thinking about leaving just as we sat down. Just as I put my fork down the same staff member comes running over and wants to take my plate away. Just finished pouring my tea and he sent the polite lady over with my bill. So during my meal I had to put my drink down and pay for my meal. Never happened at any other establishment in all my life. After paying my partner said to her do you want rid of us as we are still finishing our meal and the lady knew it was wrong. Other people were not treated like this in the restaurant as we waited to see how others were treated, which was clearly not the case. On leaving the restaurant my partner spoke very quietly to the male staff member and and asked who the manager was, he informed it was himself and my partner just pointed out the same points that I have put in the review. Basically he said if you not happy don't come back here. Racism is a very strong word and not to be used lightly, but on this occasion the first time ever I have experienced racial discrimination in glasgow and we both have lived here all our life's.

Just had an online delivery via Uber- haddock supper & single sausage £19.60. Delivered very quickly, but sausage not hot and NO chips. Rang S&P. Really sorry but can't now send chips. You'll need to contact Uber-Eats.NOTHING TO DO WITH US! Go into app and get a refund. Uber refunded just over £4. Salt & Vinegar customer service non-existant. Will never order from them again.

Service is what this plaice (gahaha) does so well, always a friendly smile when you enter. That and the fish suppers, sausage, haggis... Whatever you want is cooked to order so it's always hot and fresh. Yum.

Excellent fish & chips, very nice staff. The only reason why I didn’t give it 5 star is that I asked for salt and vinegar and was barely any on it. Also the sauce is the cheap kind. For over £10 for fish and chips a decent sauce should be offered, like HP or Heinz. Or even the option to buy a packet like blue lagoon does.

Visitamos la semana pasada y nos dieron la hora del té especial. Consigues un pequeño pescado unas patatas fritas, salsa tártara, una rebanada de pan y una olla de té por £ 10. 50 . La comida era agradable, aunque en porciones no va a llenar a un hombre adulto, pero se adaptará a su abuela. Si vas después de las 5 pm, honestamente diría que los precios son demasiado altos para la comida que obtienes. Cobran 3 libras. 30 para su promedio de 330 m lata o coca o bru y eso es simplemente ridículo! Obviamente saben que la mayoría de los niños y adolescentes beben esto, por lo que la mayoría de las familias lo pedirán sin consultar los precios. Solía estar muy ocupado, pero no tanto en estos días y debido a cosas pequeñas como esta. El hecho es que a la gente no le gusta que la estafen.

Recientemente he estado en una comida y estaba bien, pero tenía comida para llevar de aquí unos días después y las patatas fritas estaban mal cocinadas, lo que es decepcionante. Algunas de las fichas eran bastante duras. El bateador tampoco estaba tan crujiente como de costumbre. No sé si tienen una nueva persona allí que no está cocinando las cosas durante el tiempo suficiente, pero no es una comida para llevar barata, así que espero que sea mejor en el futuro.

Glasgow has the best Fish&Chips, and this place is in the top spot for Glasgow. Fresh, non greasy fish with homemade perfectly cooked chips.

Placed order through uber food never arrived. Phoned twice to be told nothing they could do as its ubers responsibility and just apologised not good customer service as they chose to hire uber as there delivery partner.

Great meals great value for money would recommend

Went in for a lunchtime deal of roll and sausage and chips. Never got the sausage for the roll. Just all chips.

He estado un par de veces desde que abrió, me gustaría visitar más a menudo si el aparcamiento no era tan difícil. Creo que es el mejor chippy de Glasgow. Tengo un solo bacalao rebozado para llevar y fue excepcional. Bien vale la pena la espera y el valor brillante para lo que obtiene.

Sal y Vinagre es uno de mis lugares favoritos para comer. El mejor pescado con patatas fritas y comida de lubina increíble. El personal aquí es siempre acogedor y amable, y es nuestra familia ir a su lugar. Hace poco traje a mis 2 vecinos y no pueden esperar a volver. Hoy, me atendió Anthony, que era servicial y amable y cortés. Después de leer a través del menú, pedí uno de mis favoritos, como se ve en la foto. Hasta pronto.

I had that Haddock in Batter. The fish was fresh and flakie. The batter was oh so nice and crisp. Even stayed crisp after adding some malt vinegar.

Friendly & welcoming staff, food lovely, always hot & freshly cooked, worth the wait. Restaurant is clean & comfortable & take away food packed carefully, survives the car journey home!

Got a fish and chips here tonight. My partner and I have both been sick from it. Chips were okay but fish was greasy and heavy and as I say, both of us have since been sick with it. Horrible feeling that will put you off chippies. Disappointed to say the least.

Been 3 times in a month. Ordered 3 different things, everything has been perfect. Some of the poor reviews I would take with a pinch of salt (no pun intended) because this place is excellent. If there was any criticism I'd say it could be a bit better value for money. Some things do seem overpriced but when you get excellent food in a well fitted out restaurant with pleasant staff then its worth a visit. See u again soon.

Good sit in and take away fish and chip shop in Shawlands. Big portions. Open lunch times and evenings. Can't park outside need to use nearby streets eg Norham Street.

One of the best places to get fish and chips. Not many places do cod but here they do a lovely large fillet. Always fresh and tasty.

Staff deserved so much praise for how kindly they were to older customers and those in a wheelchair etc. Top class. Food was very good and lunch menu is a generous offer.

Ordered for a delivery, definitely not amongst the best fish & chips in Glasgow for me, please give your customers their moneys worth with a slice of lemon & a tub of tartare sauce at least, presentation is everything, chips need improvement and too much breadcrumbs, never finished the meal!

Always accommodating for muslims and the muslim diet. Extremely nice people that work here. Iv visited and ate 30+ times. Very good high quality food.

I went with family for the lunch special which is a traditional fish, chips, tea and bread and butter (other choices are available). Great value for What was a lovely meal and the service was first class. I recommend it.

Salt and Vinegar was recommended by a friend during a trip to Glasgow. It definitely didn’t disappoint, huge pieces of hot, fresh cod in amazing batter. Staff were friendly especially Junesky who my granddaughter Izzy loved!

It's a Blue Lagoon chippy. The fish isn't good. Chip's are OK however it's not that hard to mess Chip's up. The location is the reason why it's expensive.

Ordered a fish and chips and a single haggis,the fish batter was super greasy,the kirby grips were ok nothing special tbh. The haggis was hard , tasteless and cheap. And on that basis I won't be back!

A lovely wee Chippy with take out and dining in sections. The fish tea was lovely and reasonably priced. It was very busy when we were in, but the waiting staff were friendly and efficient.

Placed an order through Uber Eats tonight which was never delivered, in spite of receiving a confirmation email stating that the order has been completed. Phoned the restaurant and explained the situation, they just basically dismissed it saying they had no control on the Uber Eats drivers and not offering any help whatsoever. If you have no control on the delivery drivers maybe you shouldn't use them at all. Brilliant customer service there, way to go!

I don’t get why people rave about this restaurant! The food isn’t great for the price and the atmosphere is ruined by constantly overhearing the takeaway customers and delivery riders. The staff seem keen to chase you out, even when there’s no one waiting. The sauce pot really lowers the class of the restaurant, it would be so much better to have sauce bottles and salt/pepper shakers. It really feels like Salt & Vinegar can’t decide whether it’s an expensive restaurant or a chippy that has added some tables. At the prices being charged, I’d expect better quality and atmosphere than the sit-down Blue Lagoons.

Visited on Tuesday with a friend for the lunch time deal and it delightful, the waiter and waitress were lovely very attentive, the food was just as good and the tea with the deal was a bonus. will definitely be back

We're in the shop yesterday. We had the best takeaway fish and chips we've had ,freshly put on fish.

This place is magnificent. The food is delicious (I had a sausage supper). Jumbo sausages were all very nice. The chips were lovely and a side of coleslaw was delicious. Would highly recommend.

The food and service is very good but we had a real problem with the size of our table. We were given a table for 2 but when both plates were served they took up 90 % of the table. We had to place our cups and tea pots on the table next us which thankfully was unoccupied. Booth tables are fine but the tables for two are more suited to single occupiers. They should look at installing bigger tables as the one we were given is not suitable for 2 people.

No service, terrible food and zero atmosphere. I was so close to walking out but didn't want to upset my partner. However she sees it as a customer I see it as a hospitality owner. £40+ for mac n cheese (might as well be cheesy pasta from lidl) 'Lobster ravioli' bought in with very little crab stick meat and NOT lobster, neither of which was nearly finished. No question as to why. Had to look for the 3 staff members standing having a gab before got served with nearly no enthusiastic service and no music even with the speakers fitted. It was either we ate the plastic starfish on the wall or the bland and most basic food an S1 student would do better...we left hastily. Strongly suggest avoiding this place and go to Catch in Giffock or ANYWHERE ELSE instead. At least the food and service delivers. Having a change of heart thought "maybe just a bad day". Nope consistency terrible on all factors and the fact the owner or manager won't even reply to negative reviews is either lazy or there is something shady going on in the background 🤔 Avoid, avoid and avoid!!

Really nice relaxed vibe, it's a chippy with more...industrial chic decor and comfy booths. Staff were bearded delights, friendly and welcoming. Salt and vinegar was in pouches/sachets but allowed me to have hundreds of salt, so just the way I like and I guess a hangover from lockdown restrictions. Good value too, lovely lunch on a Monday when others were closed fish tea including bread, tartar sauce and tea for under a tenner in October 23 is quite a deal. Well done all

I bought fish supper but asked for 2 fish,it was a bit expensive and thought this better be worth the money,didn’t disappoint,best fish I have ever tasted.The gravy is amazing too.Will definitely be going back.oh and they have a seating area if busy which means they cook as someone orders which means you are getting fresh cooked food and it’s not sitting inside the heater for hours.😋

My husband and I have been going to salt & vinegar for about 7yrs … the service was always really good and food has always be good … change in staff not so good … they ask you if your ordering from the lunchtime menu … we said yes … ordered our main food and three fritters 80p each from the lunchtime menu … when I got the bill I had been charged £3.95 for the three fritters…i queried the bill the guy said that I have been charged from the main menu! I said I never ordered from the main menu? He replied I see what your saying …however the girls charged you from the main menu! I said and? Never got a refund …No tip was given … 👎🏻 I know it’s only £1.55 but it the principal… asked for the tea to be brought with food … it came before the food… asked for no salad … got salad with dressing 😷 asked if we would like any sauce we said yes … it never came! we won’t be back for a while… as the service is not like it used to be!

This place was really hyped to me by other people who have tried it, so I was looking forward to eating there but I didn't feel the fish and chips particularly stood out. It's alright but I doubt I'll return.

Really nice fish and chips. And takeout is reasonably priced. The big drawback is we didn't realise the sit in prices are waaaaay more expensive than takeout, we wouldn't have dined in had we realised.

Last time I went in, the nasty wee owner was there. He shook hands with some random friend over the counter (unhygienic) and then let them walk behind the counter, about 6/7 of them and carrying on fake fighting etc. I found it all a bit weird. Got my fish supper and left but doubt I’ll be back. I couldn’t get out fast enough.

Really good fish and chips. Had it delivered TWICE in a week on Uber Eats it was so good. Proper fish and chips, and not too expensive. Would happily order again as my local chippy (Catch) is a dear hole.

Usually good, but today (Sunday ) was a big disappointment, fish was obviously not fresh, had been refried, therefore batter very crunchy, and had to bite hard....

Had fish and chips and a portion of fritters. It was tasty, and I really enjoyed it. Nice decor and friendly staff. If I have any moan, it would be it's only one piece of fish, but it was a decent size.

We both had haddock and chips from the lunch specials menu. Fish was small and ok,chips were decent. Served with very small side salad (doesn’t go with fish and chips in our opinion) tartare sauce,lemon and a slice of white bread and butter. Food was fine and price was good (£9.35 each) Nice place with decent service. We would visit again for lunch if in the neighbourhood.

best fish and chips this side of the river Clyde (if not the city) - don't take my work for it - try it for yorself (unless your a fan of Blue Lagoon - in which case there is a McDonalds 10 minutes away from S&V). My mum was a regular here (two to three times per week since they opened), and used to highly recommend it to others. However, as of late the service has become increasingly poor to completely rude. The food is usually good, but again over the last month has deteriorated. My mum is partially disabled and the small table is not practical for her when dinning with another person. All the tables in the restaurant were empty but the waitress would not allow us to use another slightly larger table and said they the whole restaurant was reserved, which to be honest one does not believe at all so we left. I doubt very much that either of us will return. Exceptionally disappointing.

Had been thinking about going here for a long time as friends had been raving about it so gave it a shot my son and myself I had the sea bass breadcrumb with chips my son had normal fish and chips I’m afraid I wasn’t impressed but my son enjoyed his for me it was that the skin hadn’t been taken off the sea bass so it wasn’t for me I couldn’t eat it in restaurant like that so definitely not in a chip shop was upset because I wanted to taste this shop for a long time because of people talking about it but sorry not for me maybe I should’ve got fish and chips like my son but he enjoyed it

First visit for me and my pal for an evening fish tea. Food and service excellent , cost a bit more than we usually pay but well worth it. It is also a nice place , we will be back.
