The pub is totally cool. The ambiance is unique. With all the books, ornate ceilings, and delicious drinks, it was one of the best evenings of our vacation.

Uniquely themed reataurant/bar. The decor set the whole ambiance to their author themes cocktails, which were delicious. Had their Steinbeck and McCarthy. My friend and I just walked in, got a seat and ordered our drinks at the bar, no one to really guide you, but there is ample seating. It can get pretty busy , and loud

Ambiance is 8! Staff seemed friendly and competent but could improve their appearance and implicitly professionalism (the atmosphere required a uniform that would be either more stylish or formal than Tshirt). Beautiful but without excess. Stimulates thought and conversation. Could improve with more cabaret tables. Had a tasty, unchallenging cocktail that subtly refenced its namesake author in its ingredients but the inspiration halted there. Menus were in need of reprinting or a more durable format, could have been fun to have a menu that clued you into their little inside jokes (like an Edgar Alan Poe cocktail being made with sherry). I did not try or witness the food.

Amazing meal and cocktails at the last bookstore last week, second time I’ve been 😍 This time I tried the restaurant upstairs, if you haven’t seen the book arch you must - it is amazing! Firstly I had the corn ribs - on my god, how can you make sweetcorn taste like that 🤤 the sauce on them is amazing and the light char on them, stunning! Also had the patatas bravas and got some aioli on the side, so more ish!! Lovely healthy options for a vegetarian so super pleased!! Also had a mai tai which was amazing 😻 and an espresso martini, stunning and sweet! 100% recommend, will be back! Whoever made that food menu give them a pat on the back for me please 👏

Being bookworms, this was a must visit for my friend and I whilst visiting Glasgow, for a comedy gig. What a beautiful space, lovely relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. I don't drink, so asked Oakley at the bar to create me a mock tail. Oakley has happy to oblige and asked what kind of flavours I enjoyed, ultimately creating me a delicious sour drink. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here. The Mccarthy and Thomas come highly recommended!

A bar with thousands of books - what's not to love? The writer-themed cocktails are idiosyncratic but fun, and the staff are happy to adapt them into mocktails, and presumably to make more standard cocktails too. I would love to spend more time here. There is no one to greet you at the door to ask for a table for food so we had to go to the bar, which was quite busy and the bar tender had to prioritise the drinks over our table request, which meant a 15 minute or so wait just to be seated. However, after we got a table everything was great after that. Very tasty food, good prices and some nice cocktails and our server was attentive. The theme is very cool too and the decor is interesting.

Love the atmosphere. The small interior, books, and lighting make it really cosy. The food is amazing. The chips are perfectly salted and crispy. The cocktail menu is playful and inspired, I tried the Hemingway and enjoyed both the drink and the presentation. Seating seems plentiful but the "bar area" is quite cramped with a narrow drinks surface that doesn't invite lingering. There are other tables and chairs around but even on a Wednesday people were unable to find seating on the first floor. Could also use more obvious signage (or additional staff?) to better define the second floor - the restaurant- from the first as I saw more than one group of people have to come back down after going on a quest for additional seating.

Popped in for lunch today and ordered a selection of tapas. Really well presented and the surroundings are fantastic, albeit the plates are a bit pricey for what you get. Sadly for us, the chorizo was raw … big fat pork sausages, completely uncooked in the middle. We both ate a piece and really hope we’re not ill later. A big error by the kitchen. Staff were apologetic and didn’t charge for that plate, but could have done more. I’d maybe go back for drinks, but doubt we’ll eat here again. A real shame.

Went with friends a few weeks after opening. Online it said booking recommended so we booked but then were told off as we only wanted drinks and were asked to leave ‘so someone else can use the table for food’ and that you were only allowed to book for food. The server was quite rude, but there had been no suggestion of that at the time when I booked (though this may have been updated) and it’s a bar…! Atmosphere wasn’t as good as I’d expected. The cocktail menu didn’t have any vodka, wine or gin based cocktails, only fortified drinks/whiskies/tequila etc, not a huge offering and just named after authors with no particular link or reasoning (edited to say there does seem to be a link, but just not as exciting as I’d hoped). Disappointing.

I’m not sure this place knows what it wants to be. The decor is beautiful but it’s another place with a DJ blasting tunes while people are trying to eat food. It’s also absolutely roasting when it’s full. I came with a friend and we ate upstairs. It’s a small area and, because of the music playing downstairs, was very loud…to the point where I felt like I was shouting at my friend across the table. Sore throat from straining, etc. The food itself was ok - my mince was fatty, the bread was slightly stale (it has clearly been plated up and left out), but the truffle fries were amazing. Not sure any plate was worth what it cost though. Drinks were fine, although £11 is pushing it for a small cocktail for me these days. The service was friendly…when you could get attention. I had to ask for water twice before it arrived. When the bottle ran out and my request was forgotten again, I didn’t ask a fourth time. Servers were rushing around constantly. It was very busy and clearly doing well for itself - people continually coming up the stairs to look for tables. However, there are too many excellent places to go in Glasgow and this isn’t one of them, so I probably won’t be back. Also, a lot of these 5* reviews are for the restaurant which was here before the Bookstore…sneaky.

We visited Friday lunch time at noon and were first through the door. Recommend sitting downstairs: We were put upstairs which is quite isolated, with no view or atmosphere. When we left 90mins later downstairs was still quiet. Cocktails: we tried multiple cocktails, very nice and enjoyable, albeit on slightly higher price. Food: Several plates arrived cold, like the truffle fries. Given we order when empty, nothing should arrive cold. They replaced for free, so top marks for service. Generally found food over seasoned salty. Meatballs were dry and our crème Catalana arrived like custard (not firm), so was returned and removed from bill. Staff were nice and friendly, but overall food was disappointing, so personally would only return for drinks.

Popped in on a Wednesday for drinks. The vibe and atmosphere is sophisticated but the drinks were off. 2 of my friends got specialty cocktails that were almost pure alcohol. While that’s definitely a plus for some people, if you’re looking for a tasty cocktail, this might not be your spot. Also, my friend noted that her coke tasted off and when I went to try it (as a coke connoisseur myself) I refused to even take a sip because the glass had a bad smell to it. My husband noted it had probably been dried with a mildewed rag. It definitely smelled of it. I got the impression that the bar staff isn’t well trained. Though they were pleasant enough to interact with. I’ll also just note that the name, signage and some other details of this place are a direct rip off of The Last Bookstore in LA, CA. I’ve been there a handful of times and it was evident from the first picture I saw of the place, and more obvious because they copied the name. Check out the sign outside LA’s Last Bookstore (and actual bookstore) on IG and it’s inexplicable how heavy handed this place was with drawing from inspiration. The rip off nature of some of the visual elements doesn’t take away from an in person experience, it’s just weird, so I’ve noted it without dropping the score I gave.

Reserved a table for a Saturday night here which requires a £10pp deposit in advance. When we arrived and made our way up the narrow staircase to the dining area through a lovely archway made of books we were guided to our table and asked about any allergies etc.and our food and drink orders were taken shortly after. However this is where the night started to go wrong as my house cocktail which cist £10 was brought out to me in what I can only describe as an oversized shot glass (picture included). Not long after this another table were sat down by a different server and informed by the staff the the menu was a tapas style menu we had not been informed of this by our server and had only ordered 2 dishes each at this point. The food arrived quite quickly however we only received 3 of the 4 small dishes and were informed that the 4th dish would be with us shortly. After we finished our food we were still waiting on the other dish arriving which has now been around 20 minutes we were not able to ask a server about this as they seem to have an alarm system in place for communication with the kitchen and would scarcely appear in the main dining area outside of this. Quite frustrated at this point and dissatisfied with the overall service we finally managed to speak with a member of staff to let them know we were still missing one of our dishes.Once informed of this we didn't even receive an apology or that they would follow this up with the kitchen to see what had happened. This was definitely the last straw for us and we asked for the bill however we were now worried that this would not arrive or come with the 15% service charge mentioned in another review for what can only be described as terrible customer service. To top it off while waiting for the bill we were nearly given somebody else's food even though by this pint we were already getting ready to leave as we were looking to get out of there as fast as possible. Thankfully the one redeeming thing I can say about my experience was the actual cost as our original server did come over with the bill and apologised for the missing food even giving us a discount with the item also removed from the bill. So we did only pay just over £9 in the end with the deposit coming off the bill. Even with the food and drink we got being so cheap I unfortunately cannot recommend this to anyone at the moment I understand that they are quite new to this so I can only hope things improve bit I will not be returning to find out. P. S most of the 5 star reviews look to be the old restaurant that this replaced very cheeky way of misleading customers.

When you think of a bookstore you think, sophistication, classy, cosy, a level of elegance..... Loud R&B and rap music! That's what they had playing. Their heating must have been broken as it was quite cold( I'm sure they will get that fixed). Their drink menus were missing, We were told to Google the menu. The toilets are like something from a student club, they were clean but the rough and ready decor and broken stuff was quite surprising to find in a 'new' venue and especially not fitting. Went for dinner and. drinks at a booked table on a Sunday night. The cocktails were very disappointing, none of their speciality concoctions hit the mark and we tried a few. So wouldn't go there specifically for cocktails. The wine was very average as well. Its a lovely looking location though very squished in both upstairs and downstairs. Though the music didnt seem to suit the decor in any way. Was a strange vibe overall and they could prob work on that. Food was the biggest let down, the menu had totally changed from when we booked and they are clearly still trying to find their footing in this area. Took a while to come and was very average and over priced for the quality, wouldn't recommend for a meal specific destination. The staff were very friendly and accommodating mostly, but overworked and it took a while to get served. Interesting decor but wouldn't be back, its not really standing out for any particular reason and there are much better options in the city centre.

Great new place in Glasgow to have a drink and read a book or chat.

Food and service from staff were brilliant, however, the drinks were extremely disappointing. The glass of wine tasted like the bottle had been open for a while and my friend couldn't finish it. I have no faults with the glass of prosecco I had. We decided to try the Hemming and Rhys cocktail. Unfortunately we didn't even manage to drink half of them as they were not pleasant. The coconut was far too overpowering in mine, and my friends was too tart with the grapefruit flavour being too strong also. We have recommended you to friends and family already for food but told them to be cautious on drinks. Again, the staff were brilliant, no issues at all and the whole vibe of the place was lovely.

Don’t believe the hype. Doesn’t know what it wants to be or who the clientele are meant to be. A space with lots of books (nobody reading), generic furniture, DJ playing dance music on a Thursday night. No welcome from any staff, feels more like it wants to be a pub, with lots of people just standing about. Not really the vibe you’d expect from somewhere serving cocktails named ‘Poe’ and ‘Steinbeck’. Would presume it is a schtick come up with to draw attention and publicity.

Went in on a quiet Monday night for a couple of drinks as I'd spotted it another time and thought it looked like a cool place to try. Decor is great and really enjoyed looking in the old books. That's a cool idea for a bar. Toilets clean, they are downstairs. It was a bit chilly but that's a quiet Monday night thing perhaps. Service was friendly but a little slow at the bar, otherwise not sure what the deal was for food (table service or no?). They said they had a cocktail menu but it wasn't "out" that night. A bit strange but they offered to make whatever we wanted. Lack of inspiration meant we went classic with an old fashioned and a gin martini. Offered a choice of spirit. The old fashioned was fine enough but was a bit light and watery. The martini itself was pretty good, chilled properly and made to my liking. However, after kindly agreeing to find an olive garnish for me, the olives presented were very heavily marinated with herbs, spices and a lot of garlic. Nice to eat but not at all the type you would garnish a martini with. So that feels like a basic thing to get wrong. These are cocktails we would make at home, so had there been a menu with their own creations them it would have been an improvement that night I think. Drinks were about £12 for a classic cocktail. Not the most expensive place in town but on the higher side, especially for something disappointing. So, a mixed experience, probably won't be back, and a reminder to me to always ask what kind of olives are on offer before asking for them in a martini!

My friend and I came in for a long overdue catch up. Both of us are huge cocktail fans so expectations were high. Gordon the bartender was absolutely incredible (blue hair), he made some excellent recommendations and put some welcome twists on old favourites. Would highly recommend if you're looking for some good cocktails with a great soundtrack.

Lovely bar with good food. Staff were super welcoming & friendly. Food is delicious, not very much in the way of vegan options. Food took quite a bit of time to arrive would be the only feedback.

Lovely place for a casual drink atmosphere was great very relaxing and if you would like a nibble they have delicious truffle fries! And other options but wish there were little more options of snacky foods and also you need to book for eating food as it's limited space. The staff were just so lovely A really great experience will definitely be coming back☺️

The Last Bookstore has a really nice traditional vibe and an atmosphere that was chill and would be perfect to sit and chill with your partner for drinks. Unfortunately the key word there is 'would' as our mood was dampened by a bearded brown haired bartender who was more interested in trying to impress my girlfriend by belittling me than serving us drinks. My girlfriend ordered a cocktail as to which he made a comment on it being her 18th birthday talking perfectly normal, I ordered a whisky and was bluntly told "Steady on wee man". Whisky was made first but was left on the bartenders side and the cocktail was made with some very exaggerated mixing (I've got a bar license, I know what I'm on about) and then handed directly to my girlfriend. After about 10-15 seconds of waiting I had to actually ask the bartender to give me the whisky that was still on his side. I'd hazard a guess that this is the same bartender described as "wet behind the ears" in other reviews. Incredibly disappointed with the service in here and won't be back until your staff don't belittle customers because they find their partner attractive!

The decor is amazing but the vibe seems a bit weird - loud dance-like music playing which didn’t seem in-keeping with the overall vibe of the bar. We thought jazz music would have been better suited. Certainly wouldn’t rush back and seems a bit overhyped.

Went with a group, when it was my turn to order, I asked what non alcoholic option there was as I was hoping to have a mocktail, the waiter said to me “we have this new thing called water, that’s alcohol free. You can have that” I found this incredibly rude. The waiter was really not friendly and the staff was more interested in chatting to each-other than serving customers. Will not be back.

Spectacular environment and great to watch the bar staff go, had some of the house cocktails which were great and a dirty martini which hit the spot. Great service from the bartenders with the green hair and the other with the shaved head, both a pleasure.

I am a passing businessman and I politely asked if I could use the toilets due to medical circumstances I need to use the facilities more frequently. I was told “toilets are for paying customers only”. Shocking from a reputable business but needless to say I won’t be a paying customer ever after this experience

Finally found the best fish & chips here in Glasgow. Hard to say after searching for ages. You will also understand that Merchant Chippie’s probably the healthiest of them all. (You’ll understand once you visit the place and eat). The curry sauce absolute banger! And yea their strawberry tart is really amazing. The chips tastes nice and soft! Highly recommended, any day if you’re in Glasgow! 💯

Sorry but this is not Spanish tapas. We were served “patatas bravas” which were basically Aunt Bessie’s roasters with a dip on the side. Gambas Pil Pil consisted of three prawns, staff didn’t really engage and didn’t seem to understand the menu. On top of that we were charged £8 for some bread on oil. Wouldn’t recommend
