Went with friends a few weeks after opening. Online it said booking recommended so we booked but then were told off as we only wanted drinks and were asked to leave ‘so someone else can use the table for food’ and that you were only allowed to book for food. The server was quite rude, but there had been no suggestion of that at the time when I booked (though this may have been updated) and it’s a bar…! Atmosphere wasn’t as good as I’d expected. The cocktail menu didn’t have any vodka, wine or gin based cocktails, only fortified drinks/whiskies/tequila etc, not a huge offering and just named after authors with no particular link or reasoning (edited to say there does seem to be a link, but just not as exciting as I’d hoped). Disappointing.

I’ve been to The Last Bookstore in Glasgow several times since it opened. The drinks menu is a real page-turner with some interesting cocktails and great options on draught, all being reasonably priced. The decor is interesting and perfect for a night out where you want good vibes. Highly recommend it for anyone.

I’m not sure this place knows what it wants to be. The decor is beautiful but it’s another place with a DJ blasting tunes while people are trying to eat food. It’s also absolutely roasting when it’s full. I came with a friend and we ate upstairs. It’s a small area and, because of the music playing downstairs, was very loud…to the point where I felt like I was shouting at my friend across the table. Sore throat from straining, etc. The food itself was ok - my mince was fatty, the bread was slightly stale (it has clearly been plated up and left out), but the truffle fries were amazing. Not sure any plate was worth what it cost though. Drinks were fine, although £11 is pushing it for a small cocktail for me these days. The service was friendly…when you could get attention. I had to ask for water twice before it arrived. When the bottle ran out and my request was forgotten again, I didn’t ask a fourth time. Servers were rushing around constantly. It was very busy and clearly doing well for itself - people continually coming up the stairs to look for tables. However, there are too many excellent places to go in Glasgow and this isn’t one of them, so I probably won’t be back. Also, a lot of these 5* reviews are for the restaurant which was here before the Bookstore…sneaky.

What a lovely quirky venue in the centre of Glasgow - didn't quite realise how big it was inside. We went here for a few drinks after work before Christmas. Loved the atmosphere and all the book decor! The staff were so so lovely, and knowledgeable with cocktails (being able to make mocktail versions of your favourite cocktails). We also got a charcuterie board and some arancini to share. I didn't think much of the arancini but the charcuterie was so good - the size of the olives and anchovies, they were huge and really great.

I can’t say I recommend this place on the back of what I experienced. Cocktails are very unimaginative and to be honest just odd. They use egg yolk in one called Brontë and it tastes of liquified yolk, it is disgusting. All staff just looked like they would rather be somewhere else and not one cracked a smile. Save your money and go somewhere else.

We visited Friday lunch time at noon and were first through the door. Recommend sitting downstairs: We were put upstairs which is quite isolated, with no view or atmosphere. When we left 90mins later downstairs was still quiet. Cocktails: we tried multiple cocktails, very nice and enjoyable, albeit on slightly higher price. Food: Several plates arrived cold, like the truffle fries. Given we order when empty, nothing should arrive cold. They replaced for free, so top marks for service. Generally found food over seasoned salty. Meatballs were dry and our crème Catalana arrived like custard (not firm), so was returned and removed from bill. Staff were nice and friendly, but overall food was disappointing, so personally would only return for drinks.

I was really looking forward to going here and bringing my husband along... The place is really nice, love the decor as book lovers ourselves. But I would strongly advise from not spending your hard earned money on cocktails here. Watched the cocktails being made and some of it being split down the side as it was poured... We ordered a Macarthy and Bronte and honestly....meh. The taste and presentation was subpar for the price. And as it was being (mis) poured I already major regrets. Money down the drain. Sad start to our weekend away in Glasgow.

A nice place for a weekday drink, but beware of the surprise 15% service charge !!! I liked the corn ribs and the chowder. The brisket croquettes were ok, I would have loved to see an umami component in them (maybe some mushrooms?) However, nowhere on the menu is it CLEARLY stated that there is a 15% service charge. Our server did not let us know either, we only noticed after paying the bill. This is a very high automatic tip, and I am disappointed we were not informed in advance. Not sure if we will return.

Popped in on a Wednesday for drinks. The vibe and atmosphere is sophisticated but the drinks were off. 2 of my friends got specialty cocktails that were almost pure alcohol. While that’s definitely a plus for some people, if you’re looking for a tasty cocktail, this might not be your spot. Also, my friend noted that her coke tasted off and when I went to try it (as a coke connoisseur myself) I refused to even take a sip because the glass had a bad smell to it. My husband noted it had probably been dried with a mildewed rag. It definitely smelled of it. I got the impression that the bar staff isn’t well trained. Though they were pleasant enough to interact with. I’ll also just note that the name, signage and some other details of this place are a direct rip off of The Last Bookstore in LA, CA. I’ve been there a handful of times and it was evident from the first picture I saw of the place, and more obvious because they copied the name. Check out the sign outside LA’s Last Bookstore (and actual bookstore) on IG and it’s inexplicable how heavy handed this place was with drawing from inspiration. The rip off nature of some of the visual elements doesn’t take away from an in person experience, it’s just weird, so I’ve noted it without dropping the score I gave.

Reserved a table for a Saturday night here which requires a £10pp deposit in advance. When we arrived and made our way up the narrow staircase to the dining area through a lovely archway made of books we were guided to our table and asked about any allergies etc.and our food and drink orders were taken shortly after. However this is where the night started to go wrong as my house cocktail which cist £10 was brought out to me in what I can only describe as an oversized shot glass (picture included). Not long after this another table were sat down by a different server and informed by the staff the the menu was a tapas style menu we had not been informed of this by our server and had only ordered 2 dishes each at this point. The food arrived quite quickly however we only received 3 of the 4 small dishes and were informed that the 4th dish would be with us shortly. After we finished our food we were still waiting on the other dish arriving which has now been around 20 minutes we were not able to ask a server about this as they seem to have an alarm system in place for communication with the kitchen and would scarcely appear in the main dining area outside of this. Quite frustrated at this point and dissatisfied with the overall service we finally managed to speak with a member of staff to let them know we were still missing one of our dishes.Once informed of this we didn't even receive an apology or that they would follow this up with the kitchen to see what had happened. This was definitely the last straw for us and we asked for the bill however we were now worried that this would not arrive or come with the 15% service charge mentioned in another review for what can only be described as terrible customer service. To top it off while waiting for the bill we were nearly given somebody else's food even though by this pint we were already getting ready to leave as we were looking to get out of there as fast as possible. Thankfully the one redeeming thing I can say about my experience was the actual cost as our original server did come over with the bill and apologised for the missing food even giving us a discount with the item also removed from the bill. So we did only pay just over £9 in the end with the deposit coming off the bill. Even with the food and drink we got being so cheap I unfortunately cannot recommend this to anyone at the moment I understand that they are quite new to this so I can only hope things improve bit I will not be returning to find out. P. S most of the 5 star reviews look to be the old restaurant that this replaced very cheeky way of misleading customers.

When you think of a bookstore you think, sophistication, classy, cosy, a level of elegance..... Loud R&B and rap music! That's what they had playing. Their heating must have been broken as it was quite cold( I'm sure they will get that fixed). Their drink menus were missing, We were told to Google the menu. The toilets are like something from a student club, they were clean but the rough and ready decor and broken stuff was quite surprising to find in a 'new' venue and especially not fitting. The decor in the bar was great, Really nice visuals. Our drinks were nice. But the vibe is completely ruined by the other details.

Went for dinner and. drinks at a booked table on a Sunday night. The cocktails were very disappointing, none of their speciality concoctions hit the mark and we tried a few. So wouldn't go there specifically for cocktails. The wine was very average as well. Its a lovely looking location though very squished in both upstairs and downstairs. Though the music didnt seem to suit the decor in any way. Was a strange vibe overall and they could prob work on that. Food was the biggest let down, the menu had totally changed from when we booked and they are clearly still trying to find their footing in this area. Took a while to come and was very average and over priced for the quality, wouldn't recommend for a meal specific destination. The staff were very friendly and accommodating mostly, but overworked and it took a while to get served. Interesting decor but wouldn't be back, its not really standing out for any particular reason and there are much better options in the city centre.

Went in on a quiet Monday night for a couple of drinks as I'd spotted it another time and thought it looked like a cool place to try. Decor is great and really enjoyed looking in the old books. That's a cool idea for a bar. Toilets clean, they are downstairs. It was a bit chilly but that's a quiet Monday night thing perhaps. Service was friendly but a little slow at the bar, otherwise not sure what the deal was for food (table service or no?). They said they had a cocktail menu but it wasn't "out" that night. A bit strange but they offered to make whatever we wanted. Lack of inspiration meant we went classic with an old fashioned and a gin martini. Offered a choice of spirit. The old fashioned was fine enough but was a bit light and watery. The martini itself was pretty good, chilled properly and made to my liking. However, after kindly agreeing to find an olive garnish for me, the olives presented were very heavily marinated with herbs, spices and a lot of garlic. Nice to eat but not at all the type you would garnish a martini with. So that feels like a basic thing to get wrong. These are cocktails we would make at home, so had there been a menu with their own creations them it would have been an improvement that night I think. Drinks were about £12 for a classic cocktail. Not the most expensive place in town but on the higher side, especially for something disappointing. So, a mixed experience, probably won't be back, and a reminder to me to always ask what kind of olives are on offer before asking for them in a martini!

Don’t believe the hype. Doesn’t know what it wants to be or who the clientele are meant to be. A space with lots of books (nobody reading), generic furniture, DJ playing dance music on a Thursday night. No welcome from any staff, feels more like it wants to be a pub, with lots of people just standing about. Not really the vibe you’d expect from somewhere serving cocktails named ‘Poe’ and ‘Steinbeck’. Would presume it is a schtick come up with to draw attention and publicity.

Food and service from staff were brilliant, however, the drinks were extremely disappointing. The glass of wine tasted like the bottle had been open for a while and my friend couldn't finish it. I have no faults with the glass of prosecco I had. We decided to try the Hemming and Rhys cocktail. Unfortunately we didn't even manage to drink half of them as they were not pleasant. The coconut was far too overpowering in mine, and my friends was too tart with the grapefruit flavour being too strong also. We have recommended you to friends and family already for food but told them to be cautious on drinks. Again, the staff were brilliant, no issues at all and the whole vibe of the place was lovely.

The Last Bookstore has a really nice traditional vibe and an atmosphere that was chill and would be perfect to sit and chill with your partner for drinks. Unfortunately the key word there is 'would' as our mood was dampened by a bearded brown haired bartender who was more interested in trying to impress my girlfriend by belittling me than serving us drinks. My girlfriend ordered a cocktail as to which he made a comment on it being her 18th birthday talking perfectly normal, I ordered a whisky and was bluntly told "Steady on wee man". Whisky was made first but was left on the bartenders side and the cocktail was made with some very exaggerated mixing (I've got a bar license, I know what I'm on about) and then handed directly to my girlfriend. After about 10-15 seconds of waiting I had to actually ask the bartender to give me the whisky that was still on his side. I'd hazard a guess that this is the same bartender described as "wet behind the ears" in other reviews. Incredibly disappointed with the service in here and won't be back until your staff don't belittle customers because they find their partner attractive!

Small plates were good but delivered to table without an actual plate for us to eat from? We asked for side plates, one was source immediately the other arrived 5 minutes later, surely staff know how small plates work? Asked for salt (not unreasonable) which eventually arrived as we were almost finished! Visited like others after some press across the city. Arrived for a table for two, ordered two cocktails and were told there was a wait for food. Cocktails came and the vodka, soda lime felt like it had 0 vodka in it. Addressed this with a member of staff who was quite rude and just kept saying do you want a double then? To which I eventually agreed. Drink came, then tried to order food, guy was indecisive as to whether we could order food?? Even though we’d booked a table for food and we were siting in the eating area… bizarre. Told us there was a wait for food… 20 mins for Polenta Fried and Serrano ham 🤷🏻‍♂️ okay then… bit odd, but thought they may be busy as they’d just opened. But given all the press you’d have thought they’d have planned for that. Cocktails were okay, but will get boring very quick, had two out of the 10 I think it was. Hemingway was good, Fleming felt like I was drinking petrol! Service needs work - not very friendly and in a competitive service industry they really need to improve or they won’t survive beyond Christmas. Cocktails need to be refreshed as they’ll get boring really quickly if you’re a regular. Venue was lovely though.

I was going to attend a concert in the evening, so I decided to fill my stomach first during lunch. Original oysters, oysters in vinegar sauce, half a lobster, a plate of extra olives, cucumbers and wine, a nutritionally balanced and refreshing meal. The service attitude is friendly and decent, which adds some extra points to the meal.

Fantastic service with the most friendly and helpful staff. The food was tasty with decent portions, especially for the small plates. It is very expensive so you have to be prepared for that. That being said, I think they offer some dishes that are more affordable and we managed to eat for just over £20 pp, which is pretty normal for Glasgow now.

For the price, the food is underwhelming and so is the atmosphere. The staff are the only redeeming quality, but will not be back.

Muy interesante menú de platos pequeños - con un montón de amor. Podría haber comido fácilmente tres platos, pero solo tenía dos ya que no estaba pagando. Recomienda las gambas picantes, las ostras y el cangrejo.

First time here, and thoroughly enjoyed it. This is a tapas seafood restaurant in Glasgow city centre, which I would highly recommend. Instead of having a larger main course. We chose the small dishes, as can be seen in the photos I have posted. These are a good size and we had 8 of them, so we were pretty full by the end of dinner between us. Staff were all lovely and so accommodating. Made the experience all so much better. So welcoming. Will definitely be back.

Small Oysters,no mignette with them,Seafood sharing platter was nice but for the money not worth it also didn't have and tools to open the Langoustines or Crab, bit disappointing in a fish restaurant. Manager though had a bit of character- let us know service might be slow as they had a rush of customer but it wasn't. Service charge of 12.5 - 15% added aswell . Will try again hopefully it's a bit better

Visited during Glasgow food week and enjoyed the three small plates for £25. BUT the plates were not small!!!. We had 4 people in our group, so ordered every one of the 12 plates on the offer, everyone was superb. FANTASTIC fresh seafood. GIVE IT A GO YOU WONT BE SORRY.

A great fish and shellfish venue in the heart of Glasgow. Had the Glasgow Food Week small plates tasting menu and was not disappointed. First class food, served well by friendly staff. Great venue. Would recommend the langoustine and fish n chips. Try it.

This was our first time at the Fat Lobster and we were very impressed! We were very warmly welcomed by our lovely waitress who gave us a choice of tables to choose from. We chose a very nice red wine which was reasonably priced and good quality. The restaurant was beautifully clean but could have been a little warmer given the awful weather on the day of our visit. The food was served in good time and was well presented. All in all a very good experience and my wife and I will definitely be back. Thank you to all the staff for making it such a pleasant experience!

Fantastic venue. The staff couldn't of been more helpful. We'd booked for 1800, but they were able to seat us, without issue earlier. Fully explained how the menu works, and our "deal" that we had purchased. The food was superb, came out piping hot and super quickly. There was none of the horrible hovering that you sometimes get in restaurants when they aren't slammed, but still attentive to our needs. Portions were just right, even in the sharing menu. Will defo be back.

We used itison voucher for steak and fries. Was told by a staff that the sauce is included and confirmed several times with her. When the bills came, there are extra charges for sauces. We told the staff that his colleague said sauces are included but he simply doesn't care and doesn't even try to ask his colleague. The steak is quite rare. (No one asked how you want your steak to be cooked and no one asked whether your meal is ok.) When we let the staff know (as soon as the steak was served), he doesn't care and doesn't try to do anything. Eventually, we had to bin about 1/3 of the steak. The service is slow even though it's not busy (only 5 small tables including us). You need to use emails to book a table to use the itison voucher but it took several days to receive a confirmation which is not ideal. Basically the staff doesn't care about the customers and won't do anything if any issues, and inconsistent information is given by different staff. Definitely will not want to go back.

Sister restaurant to Tabac, Devil of Brooklyn, and 1802 at Hutcheson Hall. Its a large space (excellent toilets) good friendly staff but the food is unreliable. Previous visit Hot Lobster roll was £21 and came with fries, now £25 no fries and no recogniseable shaped bits of Lobster! The house chips dark and poor. However the Mussels with onion and LOTS of cream pleasant. The 6 HUGE Langostienes for £14 bargin but shade soft. Wines average. We spent well over £100 and may not go back.

My partner and I visited Pescados last night and we really enjoyed the food. The seafood is delicious, fresh and well prepared. Unfortunately, the restaurant seemed to be suffering some serious management issues in terms of staff. Our waiter seemed absolutely rushed off his feet, manically running around and trying to meet orders. We twice asked for a dessert that never came and in the end we just got the bill and left. I don't think it's the fault of the waiting staff, it seemed more poor decision making from higher up, perhaps not having enough people working on a Friday night. Either way it was a shame because the food is very nice.
