If your looking for really good fish and chips, don't look here. It is about as average as it gets. Needs more flavor. The prices are pretty good tho, and the atmosphere is quite nice for such a small space.

En primer lugar, me gustaría decir que hemos utilizado esta tienda de patatas fritas para llevar en numerosas ocasiones y comimos comida encantadora. Sin embargo, últimamente la comida ha sido horrible. Dudo mucho si lo volvería a usar. Compré pescado para mi madre y haggis para mí y me lo entregaron. La comida estaba caliente. La masa alrededor del haggis era dura y se sentía como si hubiera estado tirado en la caja caliente durante más tiempo de lo que debería haber sido. En realidad no podía cortarlo. No me lo comí. Mi mamá no se comió el pescado. No había rastro de masa dorada, estaba grasienta y se deslizó del pescado. Las patatas fritas eran encantadoras. Aproximadamente 20 libras por comida vil.

The best chipper I have had and that includes many ranging from Aberdeen down to London. Super friendly, considerate service and the Haddock was delicious. Curry is the British Chinese style curry and is a perfect replica. Battered sausage - one of the best juicy sausages in light batter. Highest recommendation!

Came here on the recommendation of a local. The place is super small, so eating on site is very difficult with more than 4 people. The food was excellent! The fish was fresh and not greasy... that's how fish and chips should be. What I think is such a shame is the fact that they do not offer fresh mayonnaise or tartare with such dishes... this costs twice nothing and is ready so quickly... it would make an immense difference instead of jars of sauces from a big brand.

The staff were Italian and very nice. Decent portions and the fried Mars bar was spectacular. Didn't know how amazing Mars bar taste when butter fried 🤤

My food hasn't come to 2 address. One my mums house And one to my own house. It says its been delivered but i haven't received anything from 2 orders. Could you contract delivery driver

It's really delicious. Koreans, if you go to Glasgow, make sure to eat fish and chips here. The price is much cheaper and the taste is 30,000 times better than anywhere else in London or Edinburgh. Please definitely go there... If you order as a surfer instead of a single, it comes with chips and salt. If you add a little vinegar to the fish and eat it, you will be in paradise...

El personal era muy agradable y el pescado era maravilloso, las patatas fritas estaban recién cortadas. Nuestro conductor de Uber que nos llevó a nuestro hotel dijo que era el mejor de la ciudad, pensé que sería más como un ambiente de pub. Sirvieron refresco, pero no cerveza. No era lo que esperaba, pero mi marido y yo disfrutamos.

Great place to try local food. Owner is incredibly friendly, as are the locals that frequent this place. Try the haggis!

Fish and chips here are excellent. Generous portions, fresh and shatteringly crisp. Their chips are also wonderful. Prices are a tad high, but there isn't much choice for good chip shops near the city centre. Charging 40p for a ketchup packet is odd though when other places will chuck a handful in your takeaway bag if you ask.

A nice clean place to eat in or take away. The staff very friendly and attentive. And for me, the best fish and chips in Glasgow. Highly recommended

Well, I was so looking forward to eating here from reading reviews and I was so disappointed. The food was less than average. I've had much better and fresher cod and chips elsewhere. It sadly did not live up to the hype. I can only assume that it's gone downhill since it won awards. Glad I've tried it as I won't be returning.

We were in Glasgow for a concert and were just coming back to our hotel, pretty late at night and I searched on google maps for best chippie in Glasgow and compared a few of them. Ordered through just eat. Paid full price including delivery charge. Showed delivered but wasn't. Contacted the restaurant for advice. Told to Contact just eat. Payment processed. Asked if can come collect the food, Told would have to pay full price at restaurant. Left feeling hungry out of pocket an disappointed 😞 just eat have confirmed your restaurant has taking the payment an they have refused to refund. Just eat have confirmed you have taking the £32 and I haven't received a refund. Absolutely disgusted 😤

In Glasgow for the weekend recently. I was keen to try a fried Mars Bar and this chippie came up on my recommendations. The fried Mars Bar was very naughty, but very nice. Definitely an occasional treat.

Good haggis and black pudding.. Friendly staff despite the language barrier.. It's worth it if you're in the corner

Waited one hour and 50mins for my order when it came the chips were cold , the only plus was the fish was hot didn’t enjoy waited far too long

This restaurant will accept orders from Just Eat in the full knowledge that delivery drivers may not collect orders. They will continue to do business with Just Eat in order to make money at customers expense. Poor Service.

Both haddock and chips were soggy . Uncooked fries . Chips tasted like boiled and not fired . Pathetic

This is a full FIVE STAR for sure! Food is everything, they speak for themselves. Server is friendly and feels very cosy even in winter by the window. You will somehow bypass this shop on your way to the Cathedral anyway, why not just pop in to try.

Just back with my pizza supper,Never again will i go back here,Chips where deffo not fresh,Need to sack the fryer it's an insult to have Italian flags all around the inside of the shop,maybe all the staff need to visit a traditional Italian run chippy and see how the food should look and taste.

Always when I return to Glasgow one of my first things to do is order the special fish and it is always fantastic. Also delivery driver was excellent and early 10-10

We were searching for the famous deep fried Mars bar while in Glasgow and had read Merchant Chippie did them. I have to say it was delicious and even my sceptical partner was impressed. There's also seating available inside for those wanting to eat in and staff were friendly.

Thankfully communication was good and an apology received for the very late delivery time. I can only imagine it was mayhem for the chip shop on New Year’s Day for orders, on a plus side, food was edible and still warm!

I called the shop to ask for brown sauce on my rolls. the employee at the shop told me they had no deliver driver on and would not be able to deliver my order. He said i should cancel. unfortunatly the app would not allow me to cancel, not sure why, but it would not let me select that option. i called the shop again to ask if they could cancel at there end. employee at shop said there was nothing he could do and that my order would not be delivered. he advised me to contact just eat for my fefun

Fish was great! Deep fried Mars bar was a first - if you love warm, gooey chocolate you can't go wrong with it! Piping hot mushy peas. Lots of regulars came through while I was there. Simple vibe, solid fish!

nice chippy with seating inside. near a train station called High Street and just down the road from Cathedral, making it a good stop off point. Food was OK and reasonably priced. Service was friendly enough and was interesting to read from their menu, that the Merchant Chippie is one of Britains top 50 chip shops.

First time ordering from here (2 x fish suppers) and if I’m honest I genuinely didn’t expect much and I didn’t think it would still be hot by time it was delivered given it was delivered to Maryhill from high street. I was WRONG!! Food was hot and very tasty. Fish was flaky and fell apart as it should and chips were decent too. Can’t fault it and would order again.

Went for chips on the way home. Very old chips. Cold. Apparently u have to write at least 100 characters . What else can I say. Sad end to the evening.

Discovered this chippie last time we were in Glasgow. Made a return visit and again not disappointed. Lovely piece of fish freshly cooked, and so were the chips. Tea very hot. Worth the walk along Ingram Street. Will definitely return. Visited again a year later had haggis supper and my husband a black pudding supper. Large portions highly recommended

Chips didn’t feel fresh and were soggy

I've been coming to Merchant Chippy for a number of years, and despite continuing to use it, the standards have continued to slip over the past couple of years while the prices continue to rise. The other day, I ordered a fish supper. The fish was well fried but there wasn't much meat to it and the chips were brick hard, tasteless and not peeled properly. My last visit may well be my last, sadly.

Sausage, Hamburger and breaded fish always excellent from the Merchant. None of that cheap stuff. Their big flaw is the chips. We ordered two hamburger suppers and had to dump 60% of the chips as they were either all black bits or dry and hard. When you're paying nearly £9 for a Hamburger supper, you expect golden chips! If they could just sort that, it would be a perfect chippie.

This was a wonderful little place that serves Haggis. It's wonderful with malted vinegar and salt.

Got haddock special supper..chips nice breadcrumbs not bad. Its the thinnest bit of fish I've ever seen £9.90 for a breadcrumb supper

Not quality I expected for price.Cod was over done as was batter not crispy and flaky.Didn’t taste fresh, more like a frozen piece of fish fried.

Cozy place to get fresh seafood. I loved their fish and chips. I'd definitely recommend stopping in.

Called in here the other night when passing by and hungry. Sat down at a very flimsy table. Ordered what was stated on the menu as 'Haddock in Batter'. I know my fish and it certainly was not haddock and neither was it cod, or even whiting for that matter, obviously the cheapest fish at the market that day. To add insult to injury, the batter was soggy and ghastly. Never again.

Driver couldnt find address therefore late delivery of food (not the 1st time this happened) food was cold and had to microwave for heat

This is definitely the best fish & chips in Glasgow. It accompanied me through my student life there in Glasgow, can’t even forget this place. Hope it would stay as long as it can and I can’t wait for my next visit. I miss ya merchant chippie.
