Salt & Pepper in Manchester

Salt & Pepper serves a generous amount of food for each order. We got the Salt & Pepper Chicken, the Sticky Beef and the Honey Soy Beef. The flavouring for the different meat was on point - the Salt and Pepper Chicken nicely coated in a savoury batter, and has the taste of what salt and pepper batter would be in Asia, the Sticky Beef, albeit a little too vinegary, had a good amount of sauce and sesame over it, and the Honey Soy Beef satisfies the craving of those who wants something sweet and salty. However, out of the three dishes, we recommend the flank beef. It was less tough than the other two meat - after a while of chewing the chicken and sticky beef left our jaws a little locked and sore. Choose fries over rice - the fries were crispy and fluffy and soaks in the honey soy sauce well (it is what I would come back for). The rice... was not as aromatic as we hoped it would be. Loved the variety of sauces too.

Dropped in when visiting the city. There was a queue because it was lunch time, but it moved fairly quickly. I ordered the salt and pepper prawns, which were delicious and served with salad and rice. Downside? Not much seating but I was able to join someone's table as a solo diner.

Food was great, got sticky chicken with chips. Service was also really good, lady at the till was very helpful after I told her it’s my first time here and she gave me a list of very helpful recommendations.

I wish I had paid attention to the negative reviews before coming here. The chicken was flavorless and the meat was bland, both coated in batter—but you end up eating more of the coating than anything else, so you can’t taste the chicken or the meat. How did you manage to make even the fries and rice this bad? Even if you ate anywhere else in Manchester, it’s unlikely to be worse than this.

I was dreading the queue as it was pretty long but was cleared very quickly. Food was awesome, staff were great, you could tell the team really had everything together, worth the hype!

Staff were helpful and suggested options that I should go for. Had a chicken option and also a veggie chicken option. Both were great, but the veggie chicken was out of this world! Will 100% be back!

I've been a customer since they had a stall in Arndale market. I visited their restaurant today after some time and the decline in quality was mind blowing. The chicken was too salty, while chips and rice were over cooked. I don't think I could have finished my meal if I hadn't ordered a coke. I'm sorry, but a rating of 4.6 is far too generous.

No where else to go for lunch in Manchester but this spot, food and service is unrivalled . I cannot express how delicious the food is and the quality is incredible. It is a must visit whether you live in Manchester or are just visiting the city! I ordered the salt and pepper chicken box and the mixed one with the hash browns - a strong personal favourite of mine upon each visit!

2nd time here and actually disappointed this time around. I agree with the other recent review which is saying don't believe the hype. My food was way too salty, had spent too long under the heater and gone stale, and had almost no chicken in it, just batter. £10 for a box of fries and stale batter is not the play.

I don’t usually post reviews, but I feel like I need to save lives here. Don’t fall for the hype. I ordered a bunch of stuff, and honestly? The prawns had so much batter I thought I was eating a deep-fried pillow, and the salt and pepper chicken was so dry it could’ve doubled as firewood. Do yourself a favor and go literally anywhere else. If you’re from Dublin, just know that Xian is running laps around this place.

One of the best quick, delicious food spots in Manchester. It's so filling, good pricing and tastes amazing.

Called in on Saturday lunch. Very busy but willing to wait. Ordered the mix box take out. Salt and pepper chicken, sticky beef and the chip option. The sticky beef tasted amazing and I wished that I’d fallen into a bucket full. However the chicken tasted bland and the salt and pepper flavour was intense for me. I love salt and pepper who doesn’t but I needed to drink two litres of lubricant for the salt to subside. Chips were standard. But the star of the show was the sticky beef. Definitely going again and trying different combinations and the sticky beef.

Food was definitely worth the hype. Has a twist on typical British Chinese takeaway. A very good twist. Sticky beef was delicious and the sauces were great.

10/10 for food - always spot on. Really accommodating to allergies and making sure there’s no cross contamination, even when packing your food. Friendly staff and reasonable wait times. Highly recommend the trilogy box!

I went on a Saturday around 2pm to try this place out. I travelled from Leeds to see what the hype was all about and I have to say i wasn't impressed. I got the mixed box. The picture is taken after I had eaten 1 piece of the beef and 1 piece of a chicken. The box is made up of mostly chips and I didnt think there was alot of chicken/beef. But it is what it is, I understand the costs to the business given the economic climate etc. The beef pieces were way too big, given that they are crispy as well as chewy so it's hard to then cut when you've only been given a fork so you're stuck with a huge piece of beef half stuck out your mouth trying to bite it in half which is difficult to do. They need to be cut into smaller pieces but they're nice and crispy with a sweet sticky glaze. The chicken pieces were decent, crispy with a good flavour. The food itself was very flavourful overall so no complaints there at all. The crinkle chips are lovely but abit too salty. You need lots of water. Its walk in only, so you cannot reserve a table which I dont think is great. The little salad we got which was a good amount smelt/tasted like fish 🤢 so couldnt eat it. Would i go back? Probably not just yet. But maybe on a weekday when it opens first thing I'll try it again. But only because it was actually flavourful.

Great for a quick bite in the city centre. I first tried Salt and Pepper when they were in the Arndale Food Court, and have visited a few times since they opened their own dedicated site. The food is always ace, the portions generous, and the service speedy. It's a great option for vegetarian fast food, with plenty of options to keep veggies and carnivores alike happy :)

Exceptional food. High quality. Tastes amazing. Perfect for those craving a Chinese quick fix. I had the wrap with s&p chicken and s&p fries wrapped with salad alongside some s&p hash browns and curry sauce. They have mastered the fusion of Chinese and British cuisine for modern palettes. Highly recommend (but note whilst it is not completely authentic, the food is delicious). Higher price point made up by high quality food and fast service and friendly customer service!

Comida encantadora, excelentes opciones de menú, precio decente. Pagó £ 9. 50 para un envoltorio de pollo pegajoso y Coca-Cola Dietética puede. Ambos excelentes, muy recomendable. También buenos asientos en el interior con cabinas.

Don’t know whether to rate this 3-5 stars, the only reason I’ve gone for 3 is that the food isn’t worth the wait for 5 stars, for a Tuesday there was atleast 100 people in the restaurant which is obviously good for business but it makes for a bad experience and it really isn’t worth the wait for that.’

This used to be easily in the top 3 cheap eats in Manchester. Prices were a little higher than some but the food you got was always 10/10. Last went to eat there some time in mid 2024 and everything was great as always although the prices had gone up a little even then. Went in the other day at the start of 2025 and was extremely disappointed. The portions were smaller, the prices were higher and the food was worse. To start I payed a good amount extra to what I used to. I ordered a box meal with half chips and half rice, salt and pepper chicken and sticky beef. The beef practically had no beef in it and was just the coating. The amount of the chicken and beef was the same but I had far less chips and rice than I used to. The selection of sauces is also far less than what they used to have just having 3 kinds of mayo and canton sauce. Service is very nice as always but the place itself feels like it could do with a little TLC too. Used to feel like they ran a tight ship but now it all feels a bit messy, the menu is no longer displayed above counter where you could see it while your stood in line so you have to either memorise what you want from the big board at the door or waste the employees and other customers time reading the small menu they have at the counter. Overall it’s a huge shame as from 2022-2023 when I was eating here a lot more it felt like on of the best places to eat in Manchester. Of course running a small business is no easy feat. Genuinely a bit upset about the whole experience. Hoping it was just one bad experience with the quality and portion size, will definitely be going back soon to see if it was just a one off

Been a fan since the start when they had a stall in arndale market. Food quality is on point and the price point is great value. Only downside is that it gets crazy busy at peak times. But worth the wait when craving. I reccomend the triple meat with half and half or surf n turf with half and half. Solid 9.2/10

I went at lunchtime when it was super busy, came from far and got told they had just stopped doing grill items… I came for the steak but I was left no choice but to get the fried chicken. Waited ages and in the end got a kids portion of food, not much seasoning either. Safe to say I left feeling deflated and still starving :(

This place is incredible. 10/10 for me. Only negative... They need to expand into larger premises... Queueing out of the door when we went (no exaggeration). Food was absolutely delicious. Open a branch in Dubai... We need this back home!

Everytime I'm in town i visit here, food is spot on, full of flavour and always busy. Staff are nice and friendly and the only complaint I have is they put an open pot of sauce in the box and then turn it on its side emptying the contents of said box all over the bag. Literally a little moan but 3 times we've had a take out from there it happened all 3. I cannot fault anything else, food, speed, service, atmosphere, cleanliness are all spot on, 👌 Thankyou Salt&Pepper for great food 😋

Amazing food and great portions for the price!

Food was great the salt and pepper chicken was amazing as was the sticky chicken. The chips were also very nice. The soy wings tasted great but we're a bit small. The only downside to this place is it's like the hunger games to find a seat and it's very tight so if you don't mind having a gamble on if you can get seated go give it a try because the food was great.

One of my friends raved about this place and said its a great place to eat with good food. I'd thought I'd try it out and see what's special about this place. After looking at the menu, I decided to get the Chicken/Beef mixed box. After getting the food after 10 mins, it was good at first and seasoned well, however, as more I dug into the the meat, it was mainly batter and skin of the chicken/Beef. I was upset by this because I didn't expect to taste batter as I paid for this. Can management flag this up and give me a fresh one please. P.s. I wouldn't recommend to go if its busy.

Not worth the hype from social media. Beef is too chewy and chicken feels too much of a batter The only thing I like is boiled rice as it’s soft and perfectly boiled. Overall taste is salty, especially chips Atmosphere is incredibly noisy as well, unfortunately

Having seen photos of the food here I was expecting big things and I have to say I was disappointed. The food was average and all the flavour came from the sauces. The table we sat at was wobbly and the floor covered in food. On the plus side the portions are huge and the food was prepared extremely quickly. Also plastic forks seem wasteful and are easily broken when trying to use.

Honestly some of the nicest salt and pepper chicken I’ve had in years! Really reasonable prices and massive portions. Drinks are really good prices too, cans of fizzy juice are £1.20. Staff are lovely and really efficient

I was looking for the shop found out after searching in the food market. Ordered extra 🥵 extra spicy sticky wings. Bro!! 😎 Must have best thing ever 😜. Love the food fries best food in Manchester, I would love to come back with my family even I have to drive to 4 hrs to get here. Must have in Manchester highly recommend. This place had the best prawn tempura and chicken. I liked their chicken and prawn with sticky sauce. It was amazing. FYI, these places always have long queue, but don't worry, they are very fast at taking orders and in 5-10 minutes you will get your food. Worth money for foods 😋.

Did not expect something to be so delicious! Afternoon wondering what to have for dinner we decided to pull in here, place was buzzing, and service was quick but the food was incredible. Had a surf and turf which I thought was great value, prawns were exceptionally crispy and paired great with the lemon mayo and the FLANK STEAK, SOOOOOOO DAMN GOOD, was so tender and juicy and had an incredible smoke flavour, the chips were awesome and the salad gave great freshness, not ur bog standard salad! The mixed box with the trilogy meats was also outstanding, crispy sticky beef, salt and pepper chicken and sticky chicken were all so tasty, will deffo be back and don't forget to try all the sauces!!!!

Visited Manchester for a day trip with my partner and a friend said we must visit here for food, they were absolutely right! We had the mixed box with 2x chickens and beef with half and half fries and rice. The food was fantastic and if it was open later on in the day too we have returned on the same day! Next time we visit I shall be checking it’s open so we can definitely visit again.

I have previously been here several times and thoroughly enjoyed the food but lately the portions have been inconsistent. Ordered a mixed box today only to get 3/4 bites of chicken and 3/4 of beef and a hell of a lot of chips to bulk up the box. Truly disappointed

Had grilled chicken half rice/chips.. rice was good, chicken sooo bland no seasoning at all. They previously offered a soy sauce based condiment which you help yourself to but that's been replaced with a range of mayo sauces which does not go with grilled chicken. Not sure why the wait was 15 -20 mins today, it wasn't busy but was so disorganised. No beepers to call you to collect your order but staff just constantly shouting people's names out. So annoying.

Actually used to rate these guys but just ordered of uber eats. Firstly the price is more on there, but cool. What really annoyed me is when u come into the shop, they give a pot of sauce with the meal. On my order i requested a SMALL pot like they usually give anyway in store and was told i have to buy?? So im paying more and receiving less than if i came in. Makes no sense and highly disappointed

Good food with fast service! Every time in Manchester

We’ve tried this place before a couple of times (last year) as we aren’t from mcr, we travelled over specifically for this as we remember it being so good! Honestly, it was awful, we both got a mixed box, I had all chicken and it was squidgy and only just about cooked… the beef tasted like fish? Were they cooked in the same pan? Who knows but not what you really want when you order sticky beef but hey ho, just an overall disappointment to be honest, food was just about warm and the portions are tiny now, really sad and won’t be bothering again!

Food was very salty more, tasted artificial. The prawns batter was so hard and without taste, I had to peel the off to get to the prawns. The sauces, chilli mayo tasted like medicine. The toilet was unclean and the floor very slippery, it was easy to slip. Owners need to have a look at their recipe. Not going back there for sure!

After finding this place on TikTok we had to go. And we were not disappointed. The food was absolutely amazing with us getting the sticky chicken and sticky beef. Prices are reasonable also. Staff friendly and helpful. Very busy and it closes at 6 so get there early! Will definitely be returning on our next trip!
