This place is absolutely brilliant. Can’t recommend highly enough.

Came to have breakfast with my friend, staff lovely n friendly all smiling, food coming out looked really good. But noticed the place is in need of a good clean which was really disappointing as was looking forward to eating there but this did put me and my friend off having food there. The radiator by the window where we sat at first was really filthy and thickly covered in dust, the lights stuck to the wall are the same. Also the bar where the glasses hang have clumps of dust hanging down and could fall in people’s drinks! I do think this place definitely could be really nice, I can’t comment on the food as we just had a drink and left so I hope they take this on board as positive criticism because everything else did seem nice

Update: still awesome!! We LOVE the gluten free full breakfast! Great food, great staff, REALLY good coffee! Gluten free options available including scones! Although mine was given to me half frozen -however staff were really lovely and apologetic about it. Very happy and can't wait to try other things

It is one of the best breakfast places in town. Everything is made from scratch, so things aren't fast, but the quality it high level. 👌 Expensive bit worth it!Reccomend the hasbrowns and breakfast sandwich😋!

Liv & Steve at Salt Café have brought so much light in what's been a dark year via their care and dedication to their customers and the fantastic and seasonal range they offer at the cafe. Going to Salt feels like you're popping round to a friend's for a chat and grabbing some baked goods, a hot or cold drink and brunch while you're there! The online shop has been a great addition as well with a fantastic range to tempt all comers! Liv and Steven are naturally personable and this has translated into everything they have done and continue to do on a daily basis at Salt Café since taking over in 2020. A fantastic local business who also support and uplift other local business around them for the benefit of all! I would highly recommend that anybody who lives in Edinburgh or is visiting/passing through and loves great coffee, an impressive array of baked goods, butcher quality breakfasts and the best Sunday brunch in town gets along to Salt as soon as they can!

No atmosphere - coffee good but scones were not fresh. Always wary when scones are warmed thru, without you being told. We queried this and were told that we should have noticed this on the sign in the window!! Not the response we expected, considering the price they charged - not impressed!!

I'm very fussy about scones as a huge fan and these were perfect. The cinnamon rolls were also a delight. Far lighter than the usual and all the more delicious for it. I'd trek across town again just for one of those rolls! Breakfasts looked a feast for the eyes and belly.

The food was exceptional. Turkish eggs is a must.

Had such a great brunch at Salt. I would HIGHLY recommend their french toast, absolutely delicious! Servers were friendly and helpful. But what surprised me was that they had plastic plates and cups and toddler cuttlery which was I found so great as I had my 2 year old with me. It was my first visit to SALT but I'll definitely be back!

Fantastic little brunch spot, I recommend the BBB stacked high with all the fixings (add some 🥑 to make it an absolute dream).

Disappointing. Very small portion of avocado toast, one slice of bread half an avocado and a fried egg for £13. Also forgot the salmon. Had to order a sausage roll which was ridiculously small sausage the size of a £2 coin. Bloody Mary’s tasted like BBQ sauce, all for £40! Used to be good but not since it changed hands.

Food and service were top notch! We got 2 orders of French toast and 2 orders of the bbb sandwich with everything—both were phenomenal!! 10/10 would recommend if you’re looking for a good breakfast/brunch spot!!

Gorgeous coffee and friendly service - highly recommend a visit!

It's been said before: the scones are fabulous. The coffee is good and the team very helpful and committed.

The menu has reduced a bit since we were last here - it's more of a coffee and cake place now I think. We managed to find soup on the menu (broccoli and herb), served with sourdough bread and butter. My wife had sourdough toast with avocado and an egg on top. I am sure it said poached on the menu but it arrived fried. Coffees were great and we shared the last scone, although they were baking a fresh batch... Normally quite busy so we were lucky to get a table.

Food is really good, coffee is also really nice! Have enjoyed purchase from here many a time. I have taken time today to review salt due to an experience a few months ago where the owner was short staffed, was not coping and ended throwing a chai latte at me when I ordered to takeaway. She also said ‘not much spilled, it’s fine’. I have read the reviews and responses, so I expect a response which brushes this off and says that I’m wrong. Just for anyone who reads this… it happened, it was this venue, I am correct

Really nice place but quite busy at times

Do not come here if you are looking for breakfast/brunch!!!! Came here because the reviews for the pancakes, French toast, and eggs benedict were so good and even ranked #2 on Trip Advisor for best brunch in Edinburgh. BUT we were disappointed to find out once we got there that the owners have changed hands and now they only serve coffee/tea, pastries, and toast. We still enjoyed a scone with tea and the service was nice plus the dog in the store was cute. But we had to walk down to McLarens to satisfy our brunch craving.

I absolutely love this place. Fantastic coffee. Best scones ever (including cheese scone!) and today I had a fabulous avo and egg dish on sourdough toast. Always warm and welcoming and lovely vibe. Add that it’s dog friendly so I can bring my pup from time to time and it’s an even bigger winner. Would strongly recommend.

Salt is a beautiful cafe that puts care into its presentation and quality. The staff are friendly and welcoming, the coffee is good, and the food is well thought out and high quality. It is a fairly expensive cafe, the cappuccino is £3.70, the avocado toast is a special and was £9.70. I would have liked a larger portion for that price, such as 2 eggs and a larger piece of toast. Overall, I do recommend this cafe. In an area where you are spoilt for choice with lovely cafes, you will have a good experience at Salt. I will likely return and see what's new on the menu in the future.

Situated in the upmarket area of Morningside/ Bruntsfield, Edinburgh directly opposite the Churchill theatre. Salt Café is a wee oasis of good food and coffee in an area which boasts several mainstream multi branch/ big chain coffee shops. SALT : Seasonal, Artisanal, Local and Thoughtful which appears to be very much the case. This comfortable coffee house recently changed their offerings to be just coffee, cake and small plates, but those are delicious. The food is freshly made in-house, including the cakes, granola, jam and compotes. Salt has received several awards and I could see why, including ‘Best Cafe’ at the Edinburgh Evening News Restaurant Awards 2022 and a ‘Travellers Choice 2023’ award from Trip Advisor. the team was friendly and considerate the coffee was great and the toast with Honey, then sultana scone were really good. Being a big guy I could probably done with more of the sourdough toast but not everyone is my size. This was a very enjoyable interlude in my walk around the area and I will go back. Definitely worth a visit.

Fantastic place, wonderful staff and all agreed absolutely the best hot chocolate ever

Located right opposite the Church Hill Theatre, this cafe is spacious enough to accommodate a fair crowd around the week. The ambience is decent and makes for a cosy vibe. The service is spot on, and orders arrive at a steady pace from the kitchen/bar to the tables. Over a couple of visits, I tried quite a few dishes along with some hot and cold beverages. The food was immaculate, in preparation, presentation and taste. The Turkish Eggs, in all their rich, spicy goodness, the Lost Bread, in all its custardy glory and the Luxury Hot Chocolate were the stand out dishes amongst my orders. The restaurant is a nice place to hang out with friends and family on a weekend morning, eating some delicious food. Popped in this morning for a snack and some drinks. Very tasty cookies and a lovely decaf coffee! My son was really keen to bus watch out the window, staff were happy to let us hang about a bit and gave him some colouring in for entertainment. Altogether very welcoming atmosphere, appreciated!

One of the things we really wanted to accomplish in our visit to Edinburgh is to enjoy the perfect Scottish scone. There may be several places to do that here, but this place is certainly one of them. The scones were warm, crisp on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside, and perfectly cooked. We enjoyed our scones with Earl Grey tea and hot spiced cider. It was the perfect pairing.

Fantastic food, service and coffee, we have tried quite a lot cafes in Edinburgh for brunch and salt is one of the best for sure. I have the haddock on toast and my fiancé had chanterelle mushrooms with hollandaise sauce both of which we absolutely incredible.

The dishes look beautiful, good for instagram pictures! But I was quite disappointed by the taste! It was gluten free and low sugar but I found the dishes mostly very fat!! I think a bit of green would help to balance! However, the hot chocolate was absolutely deliciously!

I came here for brunch to celebrate my birthday with some friends. The staff are absolutely wonderful. The food was incredible and bonus that it’s dog friendly 🐶🩵☕️ deffo recommend.

We had an amazing brunch at Salt Cafe while in Edinburgh! Our daughter found it online and made a reservation, and we were seated immediately at a cozy corner table. The food was delicious (granola w/yogurt, eggs Benedict, Greengrocer’s breakfast) and the service was exceptional!

Love the elevated Scottish breakfast and coffee from salt cafe. Fresh ingredients and located in a trendy neighborhood for exploring afterwards.

Dog friendly. They even have special blankets so my small dog could sit next to me. Lovely staff and very tasty food and drink.

Food was nice, portions not filling. Reason for lower rating is gratuity amount is included on bill, which is a bad trend to place that on your customers. Tips have always been a choice for the consumer to make. I’d advise making it an option.

Lovely cafe and friendly staff, however we were disappointed at the lack of vegan lunch options (or veggie options that can be made vegan!). Only thing we could have were breakfast options. Some vegan lunch options would be great!

The food was tasty and the presentation was well done. The staff were attentive and friendly. The restaurant was well decorated and clean and I liked the wooden design of the tables. Also in a lovely part of town. Only negative would be the tables were very close to each other so could hear other customers conversations quite vividly.

Quite busy and a bit of a wait to get served/food wait but the food was really tasty and the servers work hard. Will be back, but hoping its a bit quieter next time. Nothing the business can do about being so popular though! But i find the place a bit cramped seating wise and very noisy, not a peaceful place to eat.

Went here for a birthday brunch and had a nice time. Most of the food was warm and the staff were nice and friendly. The fennel butter is only for people who love fennel, it was just too much for me!

Like its pun-packed menu and pancake-stacked plates, Salt is full of character and taste. Aside from a banging brunch, highlights included chic decor and stellar staff. My only regret is not asking whether they'd consider serving a boozy version of the Dirty Chai Latte. Next time.

Search no more, this is THE best brunch in Edinburgh. From friendly staff, clean restaurant and delicious Scottish staples, had some of the best coffee I’ve ever had here and you could taste the freshness in everything you ate. I recommend the butcher’s breakfast, especially if you’re a tourist and want to get a good taste of what good Scottish food is.

Never try the benedict, nor omelette.

I'm so glad I stumbled upon this gem of a place. The staff are really friendly and the food is fresh and delicious. Their menu changes so check often if your favorite item is available. I got their signature hot chocolate and their Croque Chieftain (which is not their staple item). Simply amazing!

Easy peasy decision - 5 STARS!! We went here for breakfast for my wife’s birthday. I had heard good things about this cafe and it certainly didn’t disappoint. We got 2x Butcher’s Breakfasts but before that we got a 2 x luxury hot chocolates, a Pain Au Chocolat and a buttermilk scone with clotted cream and house-made jam. The drinks were outstanding. I am not a massive fan of marshmallows but even this was great. The drink had the perfect amount of sweetness. We loved it! The Pain Au Chocolat was crisp on the outside and soft in the middle. It was cool seeing all the layers. My scone was incredible. It was of an unusual shape but that gave it character. It tasted even more phenomenal with the delicate clotted cream and delicious jam. Now the main event. The butchers breakfast. The crispy sourdough bread came with garlic butter which was bright green and very indulgent. The mushrooms and onions were silky but nice. The sausages were slim but flavourful. The bacon was perfect. I loved the sirracha baked beans. The eggs were spot on, and the black pudding and haggis was as you’d expect. What a lovely breakfast it was. The staff were very welcoming and on the ball. Since it was my wife’s birthday they hilariously put a candle on a sausage which was awesome. The staff are either really good actors or they genuinely care for their customers and love their job. I also love knowing that all the food is freshly made in-house using the very best seasonal, sustainable and local produce. This explains the higher price for the breakfast. Although some might find £16 for a cooked breakfast a bit steep. My only nitpicking is that I wasn’t a huge fan of our seating. It was a little tight and the backrests are wobbly so if someone sitting behind you moves so do you. This is undoubtedly up there for my best breakfast spots in Edinburgh. In my top 2 for sure.

Absolutely amazing experience. Me and two of my friends went there on our last day in Edinburgh. The menu is not huge (wich is a good thing) but you still have such a hard time deciding what to get because every dish sounds like it's going to be awesome. The food itself left us completely in awe so we stayed longer and ordered another round just to get to experience more of it. Calories? Who cares :P Last but not least it should be mentioned that the staff and especially the owners are lovely people with a real passion. With love from Germany

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to SALT Cafe! The food was delicious and the coffee was scummy - one of the best I've had! The cafe is situated a little distance from the city centre however, we had a lovely walk up to it. My only issue is that the toilet door had a window with a little curtain covering it. Blacking out the window would offer more privacy.

This place is literally one of the highlights of my Edinburgh trip! As a Turk, when it comes to breakfast my standards are very high but Salt Café definitely is up to it! The owners are amazing, the place is extremely clean, incredible food, friendly staff! Can’t recommend this place enough! 🤍 PS:Amazing Turkish eggs, definitely approved

We didn’t get the chance to experience this cafe. The front counter staff was abrasive, and sent us away without any decorum. We had to ask for take away, originally it didn’t even sound like this was an option. Please think about customer service for people who walk in. It’s too bad as the food and coffee seemed great.

This is just to warn people to properly read their booking terms, as i've been charged £20. My partner and I booked Salt cafe last Sunday, however we had to cancel the booking about 10 mins after making it, as something urgent came up, meaning we wouldn't be able to make the booking. I'll admit at the time I didn't fully read the terms of the booking (which I definitely should have), but don't think I have ever come across a cafe that charges that amount per head for a cancellation - especially when the booking is cancelled within a short window of time. Anyway, just read the terms before booking.

I love coming here for brunch, the food is absolutely phenomenal. The staff are always so sweet and friendly. A must visit if you're in the area. Booking is advisable

Lovely wee cafe, especially in the evenings! Really snug atmosphere with low lighting and steamed up windows. The cocktails are to die for and the sharing boards are tasty. Quick and attentive service.

We walked 45 minutes to the cafe and were greeted with friendly faces and lovely interiors. We forgot to book but we’re assured that we would be fitted in - I would recommend booking just in case! The lovely owner sat us at her favourite table and explained the menu to us. We both ordered the smoked haddock omelette which was so delicious, I wish I had the recipe! After this we ordered the biscoff millionaires shortbread and a luxury hot chocolate, again - both so good. Best brunch in Edinburgh.
