Terrific food, great service, lovely ambiance. Really enjoyed our dinner/date night on Friday night. The steak was exceptional, my wife loved the risotto . The desserts were to die for.

The place is looking tired. There painting that needs to be done and lots of oil-like splash marks on the wall. Service was ok but the staff don’t make eye contact so we were sat for sometime trying to get someone to come over. The food was average. For the price, the trio of meats was a rip off. . 3 small bits of meat! The roast potatoes were soggy. The gravy was very tasty. The staff allowed a table of eight to let their kids have their tablets on the table and have the volume louder than the music that was playing. It was not nice. Kids watching two different films on two different tablets that was louder than the music in the pub. Felt very low end to us and we’d had good meals before at the George and Dragon. When our food was served, the extra bits we ordered came on a big plate that the server tried to put in the middle of a small table which meant that our two meals were only half on the table! I had to ask him to remove the middle plate which he did by moving my knife and fork with his hands but he grabbed the end as if the utensils and not the handles. Very odd thing to do. Generally not a nice experience. Two meals and two drinks cost us £75 in a rather grubby and run down place.

It was easy to park, the lady who served us was lovely, friendly, and was quick too. The food was tasty and out of our group of 4, I was the only one who had a problem with my choice. The turkey pie was very nice, crispy, flakey pastry and loads of turkey but the veg was cold and wrinkley, as if it had been left out under a warming lamp for a while. I was offered replacement veg but I just ate it first then enjoyed the pie. (I was really hungry). It wouldn’t put me off going back as everything else was great. A nice place with character :-)

When we walked in we were greeted politely, shown to our table and given some menus. It didn’t take long and someone was over to take our drinks order shortly followed by our menu choices. However after that it all went downhill. Our children’s meal was ordered with mashed potato and came with chips with explanation. No one came to check on us and we had to go and find someone at the bar to clear our table for us. We also had to find someone again at the bar to ask for a dessert menu. Whilst waiting for our dinner plates to be cleared I took our toddler to the baby changing in the disabled toilets greet by soiled toilet paper all over the floor and a dirty Changing station. On returning back to our table I walked past the bar and asked for a dessert menu but it took a little while for our order to be taken. On finishing our desserts we had to go back to bar to ask for our bill. The young gentleman proceeded to say “I’m sorry he hasn’t paid us any attnention. He’s being a little distracted”! The food was beautiful, but the service let the George and The Dragon down. A huge shame as it was New Year’s Eve and our last meal out as a family

We visited for NYE and unfortunately, it was very poor. It was £52.95pp for the set menu which we were more than happy to pay given the night that it was. Upon arrival, the place was empty, we thought more people would arrive but they didn’t. It had a disorganised feel to it, cutlery not laid out properly, no dedicated person for your table, just a few members of staff running between different things. All the staff were very pleasant, however the service was bad, it didn’t flow correctly for the price point of the evening. The food was nice but the atmosphere and service ruined the evening. I truly believe it’s no fault of the staff and that they require training as there may be better organisation then. It’s a beautiful pub but given all of the above, I do not recommend and we would not return.

We were really impressed with our visit today. We arrived without booking and were still made very welcome, even on a busy Sunday, and seated comfortably while waiting for a table. All the staff and management went above and beyond to look after us, and the food was just as lovely as the service. We had 3 different roasts and all were delicious. Thank you very much, we will certainly be back.

Booked this hotel on August 15th 2024 for a few days 31/10-3/11 to see my family who have recently moved to the area. We flew over from Ireland on 31/10 morning, checked in to the hotel online at 0830. I then received an email at 0913 saying our booking had been cancelled. I rang the hotel and was told there was no mattress available for our room and because we ‘were last to book’(3months previous) that they couldn’t give us the room. We received an email from booking.com with other alternatives but only had one in the area and we had to go sort this ourselves. I would have hoped the St George and Dragon would have done this for us.

This pub for years had very good reputation - it has always been a place to go to. Sadly, not any more...I am not the only person to write the comments below- many of my local friends have the same opinion. It is the second time in the last couple of months that I visited, second time against my better judgement. The service is painfully slow , waiting times unacceptable and the Staff almost ignoring you, until you make a point of wanting their attention. The food , when finally arrives, is nice but not great and some ingredients in the dish are actually missing. The place is quite grubby - the carpets are dirty and the ladies toilet was littered with tissues (I know, it's not Staff fault) , the soap containers were empty and the dryer did not work. In addition, restoration work outside with plenty of drilling going on. Despite this, they are still booking tables in the affected area, although plenty of seating available elsewhere. Altogether, big shame but will not be going again. Good point is the parking, plenty of it!

Had a fantastic evening, the atmosphere was lovely, delicious food and our waitress Darcy was lovely. I shall definitely be returning!

Visited again for lunch, service was lovely by Farrah. Pate was excellent as was the chicken schnitzel. The wife had garlic mushrooms and a curry which she was great.

Going downhill and fast. Used to be a real nice place but standards have slipped and the management team are substandard. Staff look overworked and hardly any staff. Food has slightly improved since my last visit but still substandard food that feels microwaved when hot on the outside and cold in the middle. Head office need to have a look at this failing business and see how badly it has fallen over the past year.

Absolutely fantastic staff , definitely recommend a visit, food fabulous. Tia and Tracy made us so welcome, food was fabulous.

Booking: The initial booking went well, but amendments to the booking were ignored. On the morning of the visit I tried to amend the booking. I completed the online form which brought no response. I phoned the number on the website and was put through to the pub, but no one answered. I left a voicemail but no one returned my call. Despite having specified a dog friendly table on the initial booking I received a text on the morning of my visit asking if we were taking a dog. I was unable to respond (see above). Service: Clearly my messages had not got through to the person allocated to seat us. I explained the difficulties I had experienced but received no apology. We were left standing around until a table was finally found for us. We ordered drinks but I had to chase them up at the bar having waited for about half an hour. We were told that there was no draught ale as it was 'settling'. Having run a pub in the past, I know that this can only be due to poor management. Food: The food was acceptable.

I spent one night at the George and Dragon in a twin room. The room was located on the ground floor with easy access to the car park. The room was clean and well appointed. The only slight issue was that the window latch was broken meaning it was not that secure but it did not detract from the stay. Flat screen TV, hair dryer, tea/coffee facilities, lots of chargers and free Wifi. Would definitely stay again,

We were shown to our table. We asked about the gluten free options, as the printed menu had no information. We were shown the tablet wth the onion app. Unfortunately this was not up to date. When the drinks arrived we requested to speak to the person in charge. We were told the person would come and talk to us. This never happened. When the food arrived two meals were cold. This was dealt with quickly and it did come back hot , and it was explained that it had been reheated. The food was average at best. When we explained to the person serving us that we had asked if we could speak to the person in charge but the person didn't come. We were told that if we had asked them , the person would have come. But again no attempt to rectify the situation. Maybe vintage inn should reassess their menu labelling to include G/F as this seems to be the case in many hospitality venues.

Went to G&D this evening and was amazing staff and food, I had the Mac and Cheese and was outstanding for such a standard dish this was really up levelled with bacon and beef brisket! Have to give a great thank you to the Chef Paul who even came out for me to thank in person! Really shows his care and passion into the food he puts out for us. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be returning in the future!

Outstanding in every way, highly recommended, lovely rooms and pub, staff excellent, stayed overnight so enjoyed dinner and breakfast whilst sleeping in a comfy bed, loved it

An excellent place to stay. Good location - it even has a bus stop outside - very comfortable room; attentive and friendly staff; good food and a well thought out menu. St Austell beer. The best place we’ve stayed in for ages and we hope to go back.

It was a birthday event. The food was excellent. Two of us had sirloin steaks and they were cooked to perfection. We were looked after by Tracey. What a fantastic waitress she is! She has a great sense of humour and made sure we were satisfied with our food and drinks. We look forward to visiting again soon. We'll done St George and Dragon!

We have just enjoyed lunch, having last visited some 40 years ago! We were greeted and well looked after throughout by all staff but particularly Tracey whose good humour and professionalism make her a real asset to the pub - what a star! The restaurant is airy, but at the same time cosy, and the food didn't disappoint: we enjoyed pizzas and burgers, all of which were tasty and well presented. We'll be back but won't leave it so long next time!

We stopped here for lunch on the way to (and back from) Exmouth - that's how much we enjoyed our meals; we went back! Great service from Tracey and another lady who didn't give us her name. The food was very good and plentiful.

Visited mid week with a friend for a catch up over food. The food was lovely, as always. Our server for the evening, Tracey, was really friendly and polite too. She didn’t both us too much when chatting but was always on hand when needed.

We have a long standing booking ahead of rugby matches for a group of 6 and the pub we used until recently let us down badly this season. Everyone was impressed with the menu, food was tasty and plentiful. The staff were helpful, polite and contentious, particularly mention to Zoe who kept everything ticking along through the meal. All are looking forward to our next visit in a couple of weeks!

Couldn’t get the table we booked. Very long delays throughout, ordering chaotic, food cold, side arrived after I had finished my main. Disappointed with the Macaroni Cheese (primarily the lack of it). Bill wrong & I missed the added ‘10% service charge’ which I would have certainly not wanted to pay. Thankfully we did not leave a tip. Would not recommend!

When we arrived there was a queue but this was dealt with quickly and efficiently. We were seated and looked after for the evening by Charlie, he was friendly, attentive and professional. Very rare to find these days. The other chap delivering the food was also very professional. The food came out in a timely manner even though the restaurant was busy and it was all delicious. We all approved of the new menu.

Booked a table for 6 for 3.15pm for Mother’s Day lunch. Had a call the day before asking if they could change our table to 3.30pm as they had overbooked. As we arrived for 3.30pm the table was still not ready for a further ten minutes. Service to the table was extremely slow, no one checked throughout the time we were there if everything was ok. Seems they were extremely understaffed for what is known to be a busy day. Clearing plates between courses was extremely slow which added to an already prolonged lunch. Overall, food was alright - nothing to rave about. One member of our party ordered the banoffee pie for desert which was sent back to the kitchen as it came out solid and with burnt banana. Won’t be going back in a rush.

What a shambles from start to finish on what was supposed to be a special night. Ordered food only to be told some 25 minutes later that 2 out of our 4 main courses were not available. Starters were OK if not rather small for the price and the main courses looked like child’s portions with a side of Mac n Cheese barely filling half the ramekin dish it came, literally a fork full for the two of us sharing and at £2.95 a complete rip off. Puddings were obviously forgotten about as they came out after we enquired what the delay was with a thick skin on the custard and stone cold. All in all a very poor experience and with little apology from the staff who really seamed more bothered about chatting to one another. Obviously won’t be visiting again.

£16.50 for cold broccoli, undercooked potatoes, and 2 baked up fish cakes, which you would expect to buy from Tesco! The portion wouldn't feed a 3 year old! After complaining we were given a free cup of coffee! The service here was excellent, but the food was a disgrace! Never again!

The place is a lovely, friendly and well organised resteraunt, the food was delicious and fairly priced and the lady who served me "Emily" was absolutely fantastic and a true credit to the company! Food was faster served by her and she is one of the friendliest, down to earth, bubbly and pofessional people I have ever met! An embassodor to the business! 5 stars all round!

Visited with grandchildren for Sunday lunch, busy but not full, v friendly and efficient waitress, plenty of choice for children and adults on menu, we ate excellent lamb and turkey with lots of extras, sadly veggies were undercooked and crunchy, lovely puds.
