Sainsbury's Supermarket in North Devon

Great cafe and great service. Went during a busy period and the food was excellent. Reasonably priced too. Will be back!

Usually fine but today was a disappointment. Would usually have bacon baps, but saw 'pigs under blankets' baps, shown as two sausages and two bacon rashes in a buttered bap, so thought they would be a change. Waited quite a while for them to come out. When they did, the lady actually said 'pigs under blankets baps' as she put the plates down. What we had been given were just sausage baps. There was by now quite a long queue, and we didn't have time to mess about, so we ate them and put it down to experience.

The cafeteria is found to be often under staffed and overstretched. A wait for your meal of sometimes up to 20 minutes is normal. This is not a gourmet venue, but the meals are enjoyable, if a little manufactured. I would recommend visiting at off peak times.

Completely my fault, l 'lost' my camera in Sainsbury's for about an hour yesterday (16th Jan). The manager,Keiran, and several colleagues, were incredibly kind and helpful in trying to help myself and my hubby find it. Giving up hope we were treated to a complimentary and compassionate free cuppa in the cafe because l was so upset!......really kind and thoughtful of Keiran Then, amazingly, a very kind and friendly lady who was working in the clothes section, found the camera and brought it to me! Thank you, thank you, thank you! All the staff involved were so caring and went way above and beyond their work duties to help ....and some lovely other customers helped too . THANK YOU SO MUCH to all involved . 🤗

Took lunch before shopping. Requested sausage and mash, as shown on their website. Told when ordering, that not on menu now, so had ham, eggs and chips. Very disappointed as eggs overcooked and chips not up to standard. Ham was eatable. Not sure if I would visit again.

Well that’s me saying never again. Cafe is just awful. I just don’t get it a store of this caliber ,what’s going on. Cottage pie well look at the photo . Service was very slow too hard half an hour and everything I first requested sold out ! Ridiculous As I say never again

Although our Sunday lunches were served with a smile and were piping hot, we were disappointed with the chicken, as it was served in slices and looked rather insipid.

Well what a wonderful surprise it was, 3 breakfasts and all were better than perfect, also the service was as good as the breakfast, can't wait to visit north devon again and we know where we are going for breakfast

Dreadful 30 minute wait with staving children. It’s was ok when it arrived but nothing special. Won’t be going again waste of time and money Staff pleasant Tables dirty

Stopped by for breakfast one weekend with my partner and was served by an older lady I’ve not seen before, she was grumpy and I thought short with the couple in front and us, wasn’t impressed. The food was ok, a long wait and they seemed to lap the whole cafe area several times before finding the right table, surely there’s an easier way for the poor girl delivering the food to the tables? Food didn’t seem quite the same quality that we’d received previously?

Good food had gammon and chips reasonably quick service and the food was good well happy good coffee

The four of us all had something different, I had the sausage bap, my wife the fruit and yoghurt, my father in law the scrambled eggs on toast and my mother in law the toasted tea buns and four people were very happy with what they had been given.

Just a quick cappuccino but it was not and I was offered chocolate sprinkles. Staff were happy and pleasant.

Good down to earth food, pleasant waitress. Can be busy at peak times but can be less crowded at other times.

At the counter I ordered Yorkshire Ham, egg and chips. I sat down and waited for approximately 10 minutes, this was nice I was able to go through my emails on my Phone. It eventually arrived and the person delivering it was very present. She placed Mill in front of me, and it actually look quite good. Started to talk in and I found a long dark hair are in between my fried eggs. My stomach started to feel the unmistakable feeling of preparing itself to be sick. This hair where was truly that bad. I made my complaints and they repeat me my money to the exact penny. The thing i did not like, they didn't say sorry. I had to take I disgust and concern should the customer service before I heard those words. It didn't make me feel good to have to push for an apology. I may be a little bit Neurotic when my food is concerned but I felt literally sick to my stomach approaching 3 hours later. I will not be be eaten there again. I cannot what and will not recommend Sainsbury's cafe as a place for a cheap meal and a quiet place to sit to contemplate life in all its glory.

Whilst getting some fuel for a trip we decided to get some sandwiches for the journey... looking at the price labels which were all red it was confusing which were in the meal deal and which ones weren’t! Also the cokes were mixed up on the shelves so I picked up the wrong bottle. The lady behind the till was rather abrupt and said that the bacon maple sandwich wasn’t in the offer, which was confusing as they all had red labels, which used to indicate they were in the meal deal, she also said the Coca Cola I picked up wasn’t in the deal, but as the bottle was placed in the wrong section and looks like a zero Coca Cola I made a mistake. Not used to this sort of service in Sainsburys...

Lovely hunters chicken with chips peas were a bit cold apart from that it was lovely my daughter had quiche with new pots and Salad she said it was very nice

Great little warm up quick food and lovely people. Just what was needed on a rainy blowy day , the staff where great very quick and on the bill .

It is what it is.. you get what you pay for. Tasty and cheap! Only downside it took 30mins for the food to come out.. besides that customer service was approachable and friendly!

The service at this cafe is slowly deteriorating, with the latest gremlin being tills which won't open and require the cashier cum order-taker cum coffee maker to scoot around behind the screen to grab 'someone who knows'. It's basically a Micky Mouse setup and has been for at least the last year and a bit, with very few staff running the show. I don't blame the staff, but pity their plight with the elderly equipment they have to use, apart from two new coffee percolators which jam up and need a poke with a stick now and then. Anyone in front of you who orders three big breakfasts, but one with fried bread instead of toast, and black pudding and one less sausage, the next without beans but with mushroom, and the third with scrambled instead of fried egg, two lattes and a pot of tea, means waiting while the cashier tries to find all the stuff on the touch screen. It's miserably slow, yet i still go back because when the food does at last arrive it's quite good.

We have eaten in this cafe a few times recently and are very impressed with the food and service , the cod and chips is particularly good and the service from the staff is excellent, we arrived at the cafe late in the day and very hungry ! We were very well treated. Thank you to all staff. I think at peak times there may be a wait but overall this cafe is very good.

Only lived here for 5 weeks but have been in the Sainsburys cafe at least 6 times and it is always very good. Can get busy and reasonably long queues at times but worth the wait. The filter coffee is always hot and tasty.

Have now tried this cafe at Sainsbury's 5 times and each time there has been no improvement. Services is slow and food is mediocre, they even over toast a toastie. Have given 2 points for the staff who are always friendly.

Great place to have breakfast or lunch prior to shopping or a coffee with a tea cake full of juicy raisins. Pleasant cafe.

Sainsbury's Cafeteria serves breakfasts, lunches and light snacks throughout the day. Everything is cooked to order which in theory should mean that your food arrives hot. Unfortunately not always the case. In fact sometimes cold as well as late.

We had a full English Breakfast in Sainsburies last week, It included everything you would want, it was cooked fresh and indeed and very good meal

Love the breakfast hear always hot not to keen on the coffee though. Should attract more customers now they have Argos in store.

Excellent parking, well laid out store with a mazane level for clothing, household electricals, toys etc. Ground floor for all grocery's. Cafe good but small and struggles at peek times. Overall I would give it 4 stars.

Made a change from KFC next door to travel lodge. No footpath for most of the way.Food was usual supermarket grade, not bad really.

Not good very cold when you first go in prices are over the top for most products staff are not very helpful drones

Poor food. I think the black pudding I ordered was of good quality so I can only believe that it was cooked until rock hard hence making it inedible. Shame really as it appears very few places now serve black pudding.

Long queues for service. Many menu options not available. Despite our lunchtime arrival. That said staff are friendly and food order was processed quickly. Manager needs to make sure menu is avalable.

Cottage pie contained almost no visible trace of meat at all, steak and ale pie had two pieces of meat and had a really weird sweet flavour (they had sold out of my first choice anyway so I was extra gutted that it was rubbish!) Chips soggy. Peas were ok and mums lasagne was was pleasant. Cheap but sadly not very cheerful!

What can I say - it's essentially a supermarket, but the cafe is ideal if you just want to grab a quick bite to eat. We always have breakfast here when we stay at the nearby Travelodge and it is really good value for money. The food is always well prepared and presented and the staff are lovely.

I'm sad to say it was awful. Cold and un appealing. It's normally not to bad but we want go back again

Handy for most things general supermarket... Sainsbury's not my favourite Supermarket either .... but go there as it's convenient on the way home from work .... has petrol station ⛽️..

Whilst staying in Barnstaple we have often used the sainsburys supermarket restaurent for meals.The restaurent has a good variety of hot meal options at very reasonable prices and it was always busy anytime we went there.They also do very good breakfasts again at reasonable prices and there is also the daily specials offered which are excellent value.Depending on how busy they are you may have to wait a while but the food is freshly cooked.would recommend this to those seeking a decent meal on a budget and very good for families as they offer children's meals also.

Called here for quick afternoon refreshments and a shop .Very well laid out store with everything you would want. Cafe very popular-some of the hot dishes being served looked really good. We had teacakes and flat whites. Very good indeed!

Visiting my Nan after 3 years and as always she is in sainsburies having lunch, perfect service as always and lovely food. Such friendly staff

Visited this supermarket a few times. The staff were friendly and helpful. The store had everything you needed and was clean and tidy.

The café which is located close to the A39 just off Roundswell roundabout offers a reasonable selection of gluten free meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner, in keeping with their cafes across the rest of the country. The choice could as always though be better, being basically for vegetarians at least soup with a roll (for which you have to pay extra), or the usual jacket potatoes and omelettes. Predictable but safe. The food is though well cooked and presented and the service fast and friendly with plenty of tables and parking outside. The coffee is also good. There is more choice of gluten free of course in the supermarket itself, which is in my opinion better quality that what is available from competitors, and worth the slightly higher price.

Its a good cafe, but the food can hit or miss (some times come cold!) but the staff very friendly and its cheap to watch there if it not full in the school holidays.

Just a quick visit today to stock up on BBQ supplies and some drinks. They sell Bombay Gin and Limonata San Pellegrino- need I say any more in this review?

After a fairly miserable day because of the rain during our brief visit to North Devon my wife and I wanted a quick simple hot meal and we were not disappointed. The service was friendly and efficient and the fish, chips and mushy peas were freshly cooked and piping hot. The fish batter was nice and crisp as was the outside of the chips so the meals were just what we wanted and very good value!

Been on holiday so called in here for breakfast very nice staff very friendly and helpful This has to be the biggest Sainsbury store I have been too Good choice of clothes good prices very clean

Large Sainsburys Supermarket well placed. Very clean with a great range of both food, clothing and hardware

Chose the roast beef lunch. Not too special when it came, beef was very thinly cut, reminded me of a tv dinner. For the price, I could have got much better elsewhere.

in this area you have either Tesco or Sainsburys it is a well thought out store..easy to find everything...

We used this supermarket for a breakfast stop whilst staying at the nearby Travelodge. Service is generally slow at Sainsbury's cafes, and this was no exception! Coffee OK, Breakfast Bap OK

I've never reviewed a supermarket cafe before but this one was so good I had to. The staff are wonderful and smiley and friendly, it's beautifully clean and the food is superb in both taste and value. We had a veggie breakfast and on an other day cheese and mushroom omelette - faultless! My husband hasn't stopped raving about the latte either. Thank you Sainsburys, heap praise and pay rises on you cafe staff, they deserve it

We regularly get breakfast in there cafe the breakfast is of great quality the staff very polite friendly and helpful however only thing that has lost them a mark is the soft drinks machine always seems to get black bits in the drinks so four stars well done

We travel regularly to Barnstaple and want a cheap but filling breakfast. This is our first choice. It is not the most convenient but, if you have a car, you don't have any problem parking.The choices are relatively limited but suit us. No atmosphere but at their prices what do you expect! You know what to expect, decent basic food and that is fine by us.

Went to go to the car boot sale it was not on so me n my m8 said let's have lunch, did some shopping I had cottage pie, my m8 had a fish pie, perfect sized portion too.

Awful place to eat .... You would have to truly desperate to make a return visit . On the day I went they had "run out of " scrambled eggs for a breakfast ... How can that be when the place is inside a supermarket ... Tables are uncleared staff unfriendly No leave well alone

Everytime I have visited the restaurant, always a long wait for food, never order food there now, just grab a coffee

The staff were very polite and helpful, however, we waited 50 minutes for our food. My meal was cold. I told the lady serving and she took it away and put it in the microwave. It was back within a couple minutes, still not hot enough. The yorkshire pudding had soaked up all the gravy and was brown and floppy. My appetite was gone . Good place to visit if you're looking to lose weight!

in the time it takes to get a cup of tea or coffee from the ghastly machine you could have done all your shopping ,gone home and put it away.Front of house staff dont seem to care if they serve you and tables usually full of dishes.This definately lets down sainsburys standards.

Was very busy on the Saturday I went for breakfast. Finished my drink before breakfast came. Was worth the wait. Nice and hot and well cooked.

Stayed at the nearby Travelodge so it was really handy to nip in here for breakfast. They offer a wide choice ranging from cereals to full English.

We went to the cafe for breakfast as we were staying near by, the staff friendly and helpful, good value for money and lovely food.

One of the biggest Sainsburys I have visited. Well laid out, excellnt parking, good petrol station, and friendly staff. About the only Sainsburys where all the checkouts were open and the manager was actually talking to customers.

Food was great - good choice - promptly served - good restaurant layout near the door. We were staying in the travel lodge and popped over here for breakfast.

If you go here they make u wait an hour for your food while they feed the elderly fish n chips no apology, nothing 1 hour waiting is beyond a joke, there is no number system 1-20 say i'm no 12 and number it'ds at is say 10 bt nothing like that exists. Overpriced too and they sell "Sainsbury's stock" and overcharge daylight robbery.

Have visited this cafe in Sainsbury's on a number of times . and it is always such good value. I have had to pay twice the price in many a restaurant , and have received food and service of a much lower quality .

Visited for lunch with friends. Cafe was clean and food choices were large. Was quite busy so had to be quick to get a table. We didn't need hot drinks but sadly had to wait in the queue and wait for everyone ordering hot drinks, for the drinks to be made before they served anyone else. Terribly slow service, a good 15 minutes just to be served. When we finally got our food it was hot and tasty. Really need to sort the way they serve as it's too slow!! Has put me off returning.

Whilst heading for our holiday destination in Barnstaple, Devon, My wife and i plus two friends had travelled a great distance and having had a bad sandwich experience at one of the motorway service stations en-route we decided to move on to find somewhere for a snack in Barnstaple. We had decided that Sainsbury's store Cafe in Barnstaple was near to our eventual destination. Upon our eventual arrival we were delighted with the layout of the store, wide aisles and a high level of cleanliness we made our way to the cafe' and were very pleasantly surprised by the standard of the food on offer. The menu was sufficient for most palettes and we were served by pleasant staff who were happy to be of assistance. For us it was a thoroughly pleasant experience although perhaps unusual to be praising a supermarket for it's Cafe' provision. We must give credit to the staff and management of the store and we will be returning for sure.
