Sainsburys Restaurant in Chelmsford

Absolutely alfull breakfast Stone cold and under cooked bacon. Sent it back and they warmed it in the microwave and brought it back even the toast which was then soggy NEVER AGAIN

Terrible Everytime I have been to this place it is short staffed. I get half way to the counter at different times in the afternoon and a member of staff say they are close or closing. Terrible way to run a business. I get the feeling it is an after thought at Sainsbury's and no one is actually managing the cafe.

Before the lockdown we used this resturant at least 3 times a week finding the food very good with friendly service, But we have tried it a few times since it reopened to find the food has gone downhill the menu now isn't as good as it used to be no proper salad and the fish was prepacked, the cottage pie was a frozen one. yesterday we had ham egg and chips the chips were half cooked and not hot the ham was like cardboard and the egg weren't cooked. we think that was the last straw we were so dissapointed we couldn't even be bothered to complain. suffice to say we won't be going back VERY DISSAPOINTED.

Food is good and the staff very helpful but had to eat in the cold atmosphere air con blowing out cold air.Made the breakfast less enjoyable.several people around said the same.And it is Febuary.

slow service to start. only tray available was dirty and when we sat down, there were loads scattered about. people at the tills seemed to take ages. the diet coke from the machine was not working. no knives and when asked 2 people went to get some and 5 mins later, still no sign. no napkins and when I asked the lady making the hot drinks (who at the time was not making any drinks), I was huffed at. 1 lady to bring the food out! no idea how many times she walked to and from the kitchen, I would expect more on a saturday lunch time. due to this it took ages. then the to toilets. disgusting! the smell of urine took my breath away when I went in the first door, then in the women and mens toilets the smell was unbearable. they did not seem clean either.

Selection of sandwiches really bad - ok if cheese is your choice. Only rolls were gluten free! Tables filthy chairs all torn, mug chipped. Really gone downhill . Unbelievable considering the supermarket is the floor below.

Waited almost an hour for food. Food finally came, plate has been under a warmer for so long for the cottage pie to be crispy that there was no mash on the plate. Avoid!!

I just had the big breakfast and could not fault the quality my only complaints is that I was given the tea first, then had to wait while breakfast being cooked it would of been nicer to have tea served the same time as breakfast. I have never been in there before so did not know my bearings and when I asked the assistant where the sugar was,she had a tone I did not like ( it's behind you) felt like telling her to shove it but I had already paid. But well done to the cooks I enjoyed breakfast.

The food looks lovely when you are served it but on the few occasions I have been it is always COLD, there is nothing worse then eating COLD food especially when your looking forward to a tasty HOT breakfast, very disappointed every time. If they kept the plates HOT then put HOT food on them, then I would visit more often.

Egg, beans, sausages, hash browns. It’s what it is and it’s good value, hot, quick and easy. A place to stop. Refuel. Drink in store coffee but it’s hot and a wake up. Go elsewhere if you want white linen and muesli - though I think I spotted it - but here is worth the stop if you want to fill up for the day ahead.

Went to the cafe upstair for some lunch. Staff were rude and waited 45 minutes before being told our lunch was going to be another 10 minutes. Weren’t happy with us asking for a refund.

Come on, this is not a five star restaurant or cafe so to expect super-duper food is not realistic. Our coffees were very nice indeed, the cakes were fresh and the service was faultless. Actually, the staff couldn't have been friendlier. All that for decent money.

The food is cold ,chips cold ,soul also co!d, fed up complaining so decided not to eat there anymore.

A large cafe upstairs from the main store, accessed via travelator. Fair selection of cold food available with a more limited selection of hot food, but it's freshly cooked. Hot food ceases early evening. Atmosphere is a bit plasticky but not unpleasant - can be a little noisy at times. Service can be a little slow sometimes owing to lack of staff. Not the place to go for fine dining, but for a light snack after shopping or on the way to another engagement - it's ideal.

I had arranged to meet my friend here as it was a good rendezvous for us coming from different directions. I arrived first and needed the toilet so decided to use the one in the cafe. I was quite surprised at how dirty it seemed (not the dirt you might expect) - just dusty in the corners of the seat - as though the cleaner couldn't be bothered to do a thorough job. Having had that experience, I met my friend outside and told her it might be better to eat elsewhere if that was the standard of cleanliness.

Good selection of food which is ok but the portion sizes are really small and it's expensive for what you get.

Had the big breakfast egg sausage bacon tomatoes and hash brown . The breakfast looked ok but was very greasy and not that hot egg overcooked which they did change when asked gone down the pan from last visit won't be going back

Perfect place to stop while shopping -great breakfasts. The food is brought to your table. Great just after shopping with a place to park your trolly. Range of news papers normally available

This place has a good team running it only stop here sometimes when shopping with the kids good selection great place to stop for tea and cakes

as a previous eater here, we was most concerned about our visit this time, the wife had gammon hock I had a curry, the hock was hard to cut maybe overcooked the kale had far to many long stalks on, my curry meat was fine, the rice in a lot of areas was stuck together not loose I can accept the odd bit stuck but there was too much stuck so you either had to prise it apart or just eat it. Also I saw the young ladies badge name I wont name and embarrass her but either working behind the scenes or in our case saw her bringing food out, ,her apron was filthy and disgusting surely there should have been a member of management to spot it, instead of not only us but all that sat there to see. I MUST STRESS , IN ALL OUR YEARS SHOPPING THERE, THIS IS THE FIRST TIMEWE HAVE HAD TO MOAN, PAST VERY GOOD.

I’ve eaten at a few Sainsburys restaurants. This one is definitely above average and better than some of the other Sainsburys restaurants I’ve popped into.

We were staying at a nearby hotel in Chelmsford and came here for breakfast. There was a long queue to order the food from this restaurant, but everyone was attended to quite quickly. We were lucky to find an empty table and chairs in the brightest part of the restaurant with the sunlight flooding in through the windows. We did not have to wait too long before our food was served. Our breakfasts were piping hot and tasted very good. We love the individual pots of tea and always get plenty of cups each from 3 pots in total between two of us. Prices are very reasonable. We will return the next time we are in Chelmsford.

We came here for a scone each with clotted cream and jam, and we were not disappointed. We washed them down with cups of piping hot tea, (and the tea was included in the price). Great restaurant. We will return.

I've been shopping here for years, since the beginning. But in the last 6 months or so I've also started using the restaurant.

We often go to Sainsbury's Restaurant above the Superstore in Springfield. It is a good place to have breakfast, lunch or dinner, and there is quite a variety of meals to choose from. Sometimes we just go there to have a small pot of tea each, or a scone with jam and cream. There are that same day's newspapers that you can take to your table and read, and there is now free wifi in the restaurant. The food service is reasonably quick, and if it is going to be a long time coming, then they tell you at the point of ordering so that you can choose to stay or leave. You do not feel pressured to leave once you have finished eating, so all in all I would recommend this eating place.
