This is always my first port of call when I drive to a Sunderland AFC home game, as it's a long trek for me. Chance to wind down in the cafè, and in the wider supermarket use the toilets and stock up on sundries, plus fill up at the petrol station. I see they switch the menu display about 11:30 from breakfast (I was tempted by the £4.50 big breakfast) to a day menu (again tempted by the £5.50 fish & chips). Large selection of hot & cold drinks plus all-day snacks. Bright roomy area, family atmosphere (I noticed high chairs available for young kids) and perfectly acceptable cafè fare.

Ordered cottage pie which took 15 minutes to arrive. When it did it was lukewarm and hardly substantial. There was a dollop of lukewarm potato on the plate and a smear of mince beneath surrounded by half a tin of garden peas and swimming in gravy. On looking through the store it resembled what was selling as budget cottage pie for £1. Hardly what I expected for a cafe. There will be no second visit.

I am a Sunderland AFC fan but haven't lived in the area for years, so every time I drive up for a game I always stop here for a coffee after the long journey. Usual supermarket café quality but very bright & roomy environment. Part of a hypermarket with shopping/toilets/petrol/etc. all of which I take advantage of.

We called in for a Panini and an iced coffee before going shopping. Compared to the cafe in our local store, this was a pleasant surprise. The tables were well spaced out and all had good seating. It was nice and cool and very light and airy. The food and drink was as expected but the service was considerably better and it was good to see someone going round and thoroughly cleaning all the tables, whether they were dirty or not. In our local store, the tables are left dirty for hours on end. It was an enjoyable experience and we will be going back.

Visited here with my college group as part of our leisure time and wellbeing, and decided that we would go for a drink in the cafe. We ordered our drinks and ended up with a great deal for only today. Sainsburys marks there 150 celebration and ALL hot drinks were £1(no matter what the size you ordered) what a bargain! Nothing could get much better than this☕The customer service was good, and the staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was lovely

Been a restaurant manager my self when I eat out I expect a level of standard. I took my family out shopping today, whilst there we decided to eat in the cafe. The food had been hot held far to long the sausage were cremated the bacon was like rubber the fresh tomato was far from fresh it was dry. I don't expect a supermarket cafe to be excellent, I do how ever expect the food to be edible and enjoyable. I rarely take to trip advisor to leave a negative review but today the service and food we were delivered was totally unacceptable. I think training the staff should be high on the priority of list of things to do. It is just not acceptable for a company who actively promote healthy eating to deliver such a poor standard of food.

I visit here regularly before shopping and I have never had a bad experience. The café is large and airy and in a window seat if you are a lone eater there is plenty to watch and you can keep track of the progress of the new bridge works. I generally choose a salad or a jacket potato - there are a variety of fillings for the potato. The prices are brilliant and all in all it makes for a pleasant start either before or during my shopping experience. The staff are never anything but pleasant and helpful, even when they're really busy.

I was really impressed with the choice here, and the cost was very good. Better than I would have expected. On a down note, I ordered a mocha......huge mistake! These come from a machine where you need to keep stirring while you drink or it's just plain water with a dump of chocolate at the bottom. Will not be ordering that again. Other than that the service was great, very chatty and friendly and cost was very reasonable. Worth a try

Went to Sainsburys near Silksworth. The Cafe on the upper floor was easy enough to get to. as there is a lift as well as stairs. We went to order our meal. Which was chips eggs and gammon. It was a nice enough meal.. My complaint was the state of the knifes and forks. There was only one fork left in the box. I picked it up plus two knifes, I mentioned to the staff that there were no more forks in the box they gave me one. Then I went to my table. Lifted the fork and it was not clean. It had dried egg yolk on it. I went to change the fork still no replacement forks in the box. They brought out more. I took a fork. They were still very dirty. I remarked that they were not clean. I said the dish washer was not working right and it needed looking at. They did not even bother to answer me. I ended up using hand sanitiser and a napkin to clean the knifes and forks. I will not go there again, or shop there. Disgusted by the staff attitude they could not care less. The standards are very bad.

I've visited this cafe several times when I've been to Sunderland and haven't been disappointed, it is definitely worth a mention and a visit. Their fish and chips is my mums favourite and I thoroughly enjoyed them too. Fish was freshly cooked and cooked well which meant food was hot when served. Whilst you had to order food from the counter, Staff brought the food to the table and made a point of asking if everything was fine after a few mins which made you feel they cared. A very pleasant visit and food reasonably priced.
