Let There Be Crumbs in Sunderland

I took my wife for lunch as its her birthday, and even when our daughter and little grandsons turned up, the staff found us a table, and served us quickly and with care, they even gave the boys colouring in crayons etc to keep them occupied, great food and service, thanks we will be back.

Absolutely fantastic afternoon tea in a brilliant location. Lovely views of the sea and such delicious and fresh food included on the afternoon tea. Staff were so friendly as well. I'd definitely recommend.

My friend Jim and I enjoyed two excellent breakfasts there this week, top quality food appealingly served in pleasant surroundings. We were very well looked after by Sally, the delightful lady in charge. Highly recommended to all our friends, and we hope to return some day!

Shocking service, I waited over 30 minutes to be brought a cup of coffee I ordered when I was seated, the afternoon tea was terrible, we couldn't tell what the food's were, apart from they had been sitting for ages, the sandwiches were going hard and we still dont know why pickled chutney was placed with fruit scones? I had to get up myself and get my own plates and cuttlery as there was none brought out to us, it was just terrible and this was booked as a birthday treat, Never again! We left most of the food and couldn't wait to get out of there! This was the 1st and will be the last time I ever go here!

Felt compelled to write a quick review of our experience, this morning (5.4.24). In brief: * lovely surroundings overlooking the sea; * great atmosphere; * gorgeous coffee (t-h-a-n-k--y-o-u); * value for money - didn't have to spend a fortune - had bacon bap and egg bap and buttered scone - beautiful!! * but, most importantly, the staff are fantastic. pleasant, smiling, friendly and nothing is a problem to them!! Couldn't ask for more. All three who served us were amazing. Sorry, but I can only name Bethany (who was so charming and friendly). But, the other two ladies were just as lovely!! Thank you!! Pat

average , wouldn’t return. Came for Mother’s Day with my family expecting really nice food , far from it. When we booked it the menu seemed pretty nice online with sandwiches we would like, we got there and the menu had changed because it was Mother’s Day which forced 2 of us to get a Sunday dinner instead which we chose the slow cooked beef brisket , it came and the beef was so hard you couldn’t even cut into it , the roast potatoes seemed as if they hadn’t even been cooked and was not nice at all. We complained to the server and she even agreed the beef was disgusting. However the rest did enjoy the afternoon tea , but wouldn’t return

As Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons ( Who?) sang, " Oh, what a night!" Or should I say, what a fantastic culmination of planning between ourselves here in California and Rebecca, Events Manager and the whole events team, at the Roker Hotel! During the planning stage, there was not a single request I made that Rebecca did not do her best to accommodate . . . and I was pretty determined to have what I had envisioned. One of our party is in a wheelchair, so precise access details were provided, and though we did not have any dietary restriction requests, I was told they would have been provided for. Together with the Dynamic Duo of Chloe and James, who comprised the team appointed to take care of us on the night, the event went off seamlessly! The mark of a truly professional set-up is the reaction of a team when last -minute glitches present themselves - let's be realistic, there's always some little thing on the night that could not have been anticipated! What few there were, were handled efficiently with ingenuity and impeccable good humor, and all under the duress of a panicky host! Me! We chose that venue because of its nostalgic significance from when hubby and I were dating when we lived in Sunderland, and it did not disappoint. I cannot speak to the 'afternoon tea' experience, as ours was an evening event, but if ours was anything to go by, I think you will have an equally favorable result. OK, that's all very well, but if you are reading this, you are contemplating making a reservation, you need details that are relevant to the event you intend to hold, so here goes: Venue : The LTBC " room" actually has three separate areas that can be used for your event. We had a four member band, " The 8 Tees", in one area, the buffet set up in another, and the tables for guests in the largest. The large floor space for dancing bridged between areas one and three. We had a party of 34, and so had lots of space, but a party of twice or more of that number would not feel cramped. Food: we had the "Evening Feast" buffet, which included all the Brit. buffet staples like sausage rolls, pork pies, and sandwiches, but had lasagna, a mild-to-moderate curry, and chicken thighs. Got rave reviews from us and all guests we asked, ( my family in particular are brutally honest and like value for money!) both for quality and quantity! Staff: Friendly, approachable, accommodating, but most importantly, well - trained professionals. I would wholeheartedly recommend a reservation! ( Without any - groan! - reservations). We held a celebration at night for a party of 34 in the LTBC room

We had booked Let There Be crumbs for Christmas Day lunch. As we hadn’t eaten out on Christmas Day we weren’t sure what to expect so we were pleasantly surprised. The starters had good portions and were delicious. The main course was equally lovely with melt in your mouth beef and loads of extra veg. My husband had turkey which he thought was beautifully cooked. Desserts were delicious and then coffee and chocolate to finish. We were full to bursting! Our server was a lovely lady whose smile didn’t leave her face despite the people on the large table next to us having no manners and constantly criticising and leaving the table. She dealt with them in a very professional and appropriate manner. I hope she got double pay because she definitely earned it.

Spent a lovely afternoon having Afternoon Tea ,the staff were lovely checking to see if everything was ok and were happy to get more tea and coffee,food excellent couldn't eat it all so was given it to take home,loved it definitely visit again x

Came to an empty restaurant and waited 40 minutes for breakfast to come, after waiting 15 minutes for to give my order. Coffee is the worst, i had to eat my porridge with a fork, toast was just bread which i sent back and got another slice of bread as a replacement, hair in my daughters food. Food overall was not poor, it was disgusting. I always give places a second chance, not here!

Went here on a Groupon offer for afternoon tea. Nice enough young lady seated us. It went downhill from there. The table next to us vacated their seats and the cups,plates etc sat there for over 39 minutes. The floor was also left with rubbish under the table, remaining there even after we left. My pot of coffee was warm... just! I had to get the young server's attention to replace it, which she did. The food was okay, nothing to shout about but decent enough. The staff do their best but there simply aren't enough if them hence the place looks grubby. Would I go again? A resounding NO! It needs to get it's act together.

This is my 3rd visit for afternoon tea. First two were excellent, hence my 3 rd booking. Today it was just not up to standard. Sandwich’s were very bland and had been made a lot earlier in the day, bread not fresh!! Cheese scones delicious!! Chutney moreish. Fruit scones, rock hard !! Asked for change of scones, waited and waited, eventually called another member of staff (young man) who very kindly replaced scones with warm delicious fresh scones. Asked twice for tea to be topped up which is part of the tea deal, eventually got 2nd pot of tea. Top layer of cake stand was very sparse in comparison to previous teas. All in all poor, I was very disappointed today.

Will never be returning. Dj was abrupt with guests, unprofessional. Accusing me and my friends of something we didn't do. Completely embrassing. Wasn't due to end it 12.30....we left for 10.15. Other guests walked out aswel

3 words for the afternoon tea…. WILTED, STALE, FROZEN!! Worst afternoon tea I have ever had! There was wilted salad on top of old sandwiches, the scones were stale, the clotted cream had a crust on and was rock hard, the chocolate mouse cake was still frozen. The only decent bit was the tea!

We had a afternoon teaparty for 12 people for my daughter's 16th birthday. The staff could not have been more helpful and accommodating! The tearoom itself is quirky with lots of interesting bits and bobs to catch the eye. The food was delightful. The large windows offering a sunny seaview really was sublime. I would thoroughly recommend this venue for teaparties and family get-togethers. Thanks again!

Came here for afternoon tea which was absolutely lovely once we got it .we waited over 45 mins just left sitting and sitting and sitting I had to ask at least 4 times where it was .honestly how long does it take to make a few sandwiches and put them on a plate. My partner and myself are both diabetes and we needed food and didn't expect to wait over 45 mins to receive our food . We were offered a free tea or coffee or prosecco as a apology but we don't drink and tea n coffee came with the afternoon tea More staff needed for busy times so people don't have to wait or be forgotten about . Food is amazing and worth a visit just expect a wait

Came for afternoon tea and I thought the portion size was really good for two people; we were stuffed afterwards. Lots of tea and coffee as well which was great! We were seated right in the window so had a gorgeous view of the sea. If you are visiting for afternoon tea, I would recommend searching Groupon first as we got our voucher from there and it was great value for money.

Having never been for breakfast we thought we would try it out, and were not disappointed. Met by friendly staff and sat in the window looking over the sea. The room itself is lovely, with a nice relaxing atmosphere. We ordered smoked salmon and scrambled eggs & a full English for the husband. There was a good selection of breakfast food to choose from. The breakfast did take a while to come out, but this wasnt a problem as we were in no hurry. The food was delicious, piping hot and plentiful. Will definitely return again.

Disappointed in the afternoon tea option. Went as a couple with a young child and had two afternoon teas and a child’s version. The portion size was very poor, equivalent of one normal sized sandwich each, a couple of scones with very stingy portions of jam (small pot between two) and clotted cream. The cake selection wasn’t bad. The sandwiches were dry and seemed like they had been out for a while, the small portion of crisps (not something I’d normally expect) had also been left out as they weren’t crisp. Also had fewer crisps for two than the child’s portion had! The child’s afternoon tea wasn’t bad, but the half sandwich looked like it had been slapped together with no care and the half slices barely matched. Very poor all around on the food front. The server was very helpful though.

Sorry folks, after a long waited visit, finally went today for afternoon tea. So disappointed, tea was cold and when asked for another pot 10 minutes later was served with Earl grey (not what we ordered) portion size and quality of food poor, Cheese and fruit scone nice however so small 1pot of jam between 2was too much and no room to put cream on, cakes not worth a review. Maybe we went on a bad day? but enough not to go back Of course this review is based on our experience only

My daughter is expecting twins and we wanted a baby shower but with covid didn't know if we would be able to find somewhere to have one, from start to finish the let there be crumbs team were fantastic. Social distancing was observed we had a part of the room just for us where we could put banners up our tables were spaced so people sat with people from there social bubble. What made it so special were the staff nothing was to much trouble we has two vegetarians one with a nut allergy and two eight year olds with us. The afternoon tea itself was lovely plenty of it and refillable tea and coffee, I could not fault it and want to thank your team so much for making it a very special afternoon.

We visited here as 4 adults and a toddler. We pre booked for 4 afternoon tea and a child’s afternoon tea. When we arrived we were taken to a table which still had crumbs on it. I found this very concerning considering the pandemic we are in and it made me think the table had not been cleaned between parties. We were seated and given menus and then left for 20 minutes before someone came to take our order. We asked for 4 afternoon tea and a child’s afternoon tea. The server asked if we would like to make any substitutions and we asked for some plain ham sandwiches for one member of the group. Another asked to swap one of their sandwich options out at which point the server said ‘can you not just keep them all standard’ - confused as to why you would offer this and then not want to do it? The order was taken and teas and coffees arrived quickly. We did not receive our food for over an hour from the time of booking. One of the party asked if they could just bring the child’s portion out as she was crying because she was so hungry. Instead two adult afternoon teas were brought out (on a sharing tray) with only enough scones for 1 person. We queried this with the server and they had only made 2 afternoon teas for our table. She took it away and then brought it back a minute later exactly the same. We were very confused as to what was going on. She came back said they were going to make another and it took about 15 minutes for this to come out and a further 5 minutes after that for the child’s afternoon tea to come out. We were not given any plates or cutlery. Luckily the missing scones were brought out on a plate with 2 forks and we had to share these forks between 4 and use the plates from our cups of tea. One of the trays had twice as many sandwiches as the other, but are this point we were all so hungry we just dug in a we did not want the food being taken away. The scones were rock hard and tasted stale. The sandwiches were dry and the cakes were not nice. The child’s afternoon tea was nice and we all wished we had one of those instead. One adult requested another coffee - this was never brought out. We had to ask two different servers for milk as the first forgot and never brought it. The service was slow, staff were hard to find so it was difficult to ask for anything else. I would not return.

Me and my parter went here on bank holiday Monday. We ordered a full English for both of us, and there was quite a wait for food and I believe it was Rosaline was very kind and apologetic and got us free coffees whilst we waited. I’ve been a few times here and service is always fantastic and the food was delicious. Cakes are lovely here too. Will be back soon. Especially pleased with the COVID-19 safety measures they have in place, it made things much more comfortable to be out.

We ate here there times, once for cake, once for dinner and once for brunch over our two night stay at the hotel. The food was lovely, especially the scampi and chips I had for dinner. The cakes looked and tasted delicious. All the staff were very friendly and each time let us sit over looking the ocean. I am already looking forward to coming back on our next trip up to the North east!

Unfortunately, the servers/hostesses here do not know how to manage a crowd. Twice we were seated and no one came back to take our order for over ten minutes. We watched them take other table orders and so one day we walked out and the following day we waved down a server after she had served tea/coffee to two other tables seated after us. It was disappointing as there was definitely a trend in the three days we stayed at the Roker Hotel.

Very disappointed today with Eggs Benedict and Eggs Royale. The eggs were so raw. Never been served eggs like this anywhere. This has put me off going back. Disappointed as it was a treat for my family. Would have given no stars if I could have.

Terrific father's day afternoon tea collected effortlessly from the hotel. We had sweet and savoury boxes, with a can of beer thrown in! We had been at Let there be crumbs for a birthday afternoon tea in September in person with a group of friends - remember those days when you could do that?? - and it was equally good. Can't wait for the tearoom/cafe to re-open.

Lovely afternoon tea for Father’s Day. Contactless ordering and collection. Plenty of food in the box. Fast service when collecting. My dad thoroughly enjoyed it.

One of my friends has been feeling very lonely during the pandemic. I decided to treat her to afternoon tea. I phoned the order for the following day, collected it as agreed very pleasant experience. The food was beautiful there was a selection of sandwiches pastries salad and cakes. Everything was beautifully presented, was fresh and very tasty. Overall a great experience and good value for money even in these strange times with social distancing in place it was personal.

We ordered the day before for a 1pm pick up. Neatly packaged And collection protocol bearing in mind current situations. Nice note thanking us for supporting local business, which was a good touch.Got home and unpacked the goodies. Lovely sandwiches, 3 each, currant and cheese scone each with butter, jam and cream. A lovely selection of cakes and two teabags (there is a gin version).A lovely change.

Afternoon tea to takeaway to help support local businesses. Ordered afternoon tea for today and it was absolutely delicious. We got a selection of fresh sandwiches and cakes and two scones each ( cheese and fruit ) there was butter, cream and jam for the scones, there was even two English breakfast teabags which was lovely. I highly recommend thank you we will be back.

We went for afternoon Tea using a voucher we were given for christmas. The food was absaloulty delicious and the perfect amount for 2 people. It was a really nice selection as well. The service was outstanding; we were served by Curtis who was so friendly and just the right amount of there when you needed. It seemed all of the staff couldn't do enough for their customers. We have never had afternoon tea before but would definitely go back.

We ate breakfast in here as part of our stay package at The Roker Hotel. The views out to the lighthouse are amazing. The full English breakfast was excellent.

Went for coffee with friends , what a nice experience , nice place and served by friendly staff especially the young lady called Rosalie who was very efficient , if you fancy coffee and cake look no further , give crumbs a try , you won't be disappointed

My wife and I visited this lovely tea room in The Roker Hotel and throughly enjoyed our “tea for two”. The sandwiches, scones and cakes were delicious, and our young waitress was excellent.

Took my 94 year old M-I-L here for afternoon tea as a treat. Previously had afternoon teas at Patisserie Valerie and Hardwicke Hall with her and in all honesty Let there be Crumbs is a million miles behind both.

Poor quality food, service and costly at that. Had my moms wake here and I am sure they used frozen sausage rolls, cakes and sandwiches, terrible experience avoid . Alcohol drinks and other drinks are ouch expensive

We had a fantastic visit for afternoon tea today, the sandwiches, cakes and scones were lovely as were the staff. As I have a nut allergy I was unsure which of the cakes would be suitable however curtis was very helpful and took me to pick a cake I could eat!

We went with groupon vouchers for the festive afternoon tea. We had bought three individual vouchers, for 6 people and it didn’t state on groupon that we had to call ahead too to book. We just used their online booking. Anyway, the booking hadn’t gone through and it’s just as well I called ahead.

What a delightful place this is! Had festive afternoon tea here with my husband and it was one of the best we have had! As I am a vegetarian, they brought me my own stand with food on, which I thought was very thoughtful. The sandwiches were delicious, there was a fruit scone and also a cheese scone with the most incredible chutney, a selection of festive cakes/biscuits (all lovely!) and unlimited rington's tea! The setting and view are perfect and the staff were exceptional. Special thanks to Curtis who was so friendly and welcoming - he is a credit to the business. We will definitely be returning and for 2 for £20 think it was fantastic value for money. Thank you!

Excellent afternoon tea, great service - would also like to say the views are great of the coastline. We came with a group of friends who all commented how nice the venue was

7 of us stayed overnight and needed breakfast before going to a funeral. On booking our double room and one for our younger son, my husband had paid for 3 breakfasts.These were at a set price of £8.00 each regardless of whether we had a cooked breakfast or not. Our coffee came in two very small pots and was not very hot. Not usually being hungry at breakfast time, I had fresh fruit salad, coffee and fruit juice while my husband had a full English cooked breakfast and yogurt. Our older son and family (ie 2 adults and 2 teenagers) had not paid for their breakfasts at the time of booking their rooms. Today we discovered one gets charged more that way - £9.95 each. This was regardless of what one chose. We now learn from Roker that continental-only breakfasts are supposed to be charged at a reduced price but no one had mentioned this and so, when we paid, we were unknowingly overcharged because our grandsons hadn't had a full English cooked breakfast. We were charged the full price of 4 x £9.95. The waitress had offered latte coffees to the 2 adults and these were an additional £2.25 each, something we were not told would be extra to the set breakfast price. The lack of clarity over pricing means we would hesistate to stay there again. Availability - although we weren't down late for breakfast, some of the pastries had to be requested as the display was not kept topped up. The term 'continental breakfast' suggests baguettes not ordinary sliced bread. I saw no baguettes at all.

Had a fabulous afternoon at Let There Be Crumbs, Roker Hotel for a baby shower. Paid £10 each (2 afternoon teas for £20) and received plenty tea and coffee throughout the afternoon. Staff were great, nothing too much trouble, they really looked after us all. Would definately recommend Let There Be Crumbs for events.

Three of us went for afternoon tea. The menu stated that the sandwiches would be cheese savoury and smoked salmon and cucumber. When the tea arrived, we could see there were lots of cheese savoury sandwiches but couldn't see any smoked salmon. The waiter assured us they were there but on closer inspection there was one tuna mayonnaise sandwich and the rest were cheese savoury. I informed the waiter of this and a few minutes later the salmon sandwiches arrived and they were very good. The selection of cakes is fantastic - macaron, brownie, chocolate mousse cake, lemon drizzle, all garnished with raspberries, its also very good value - if you get the right sandwiches! Service was slow throughout and the room decor is a bit random but there's a great view of the sea and the pier.

I had breakfast here and given the volume of poor and terrible I was a touch worried how good it would be. In was served relatively quickly with coffee although I had to ask for milk. My scrambled eggs and smoke salmon were okay but on the cool side. I expect they had been cooked and waited a touch to long to come out to me.

I booked the VIP buffet and cakes for the Sunday of the Airshow. I'm not from the area and was treating my friend for her 50th birthday, I hadn't read any of the reviews (which probably would have put me off). We were absolutely delighted with the whole set up. From welcome gin, canapés, buffet lunch of starter, main, dessert and then later tea and cakes. The service was absolutely wonderful and very attentive. We felt that for the price it was really a bargain - feeling like we really did have the full VIP experience. My only suggestion would be to have the music that was outside a little quieter or to start a bit later as we missed the commentary of the planes and couldn't even hear them! Anyway, my friend has been looking at the website to see what else you have on throughout the year - I hope those events are to the same standard as this one - well done and thank you!

Despite pre booking and the restaurant empty the service was shameful. We had prepaid for afternoon tea for 2 and just wanted a light lunch for 2 other adults and 2 children. Mashed potato and peas not just cool but I doubt they had seen the inside of an oven. No butter for cheese scones, no jam or butter for the afternoon tea scones and the fruit scones were so heavy and dry they were inedible. Couldn’t even get the coffee and tea correct. The bill was incorrect as didn’t take off the prepaid afternoon teas of £20.00 and had to be pointed out to the staff at the bar as no one bothered to come and clear our table and take payment. Won’t be coming back again

Visited for an early Father’s Day afternoon tea for four.

Had breakfast here before check in the food was fine but the young (?) weekend staff were disinterested . Had breakfast again the following morning again the same staff with the addition of a (?) more experienced lady who seemed to be doing all the work and replenished stocks when asked and a senior member of staff who organised the drinks.

Terrible service despite restaurant being half empty, tables not cleared, drinks took forever to arrive and orders missed when they did eventually arrive. Food arriving separately, starters arriving after mains. Uncooked chicken served to a 3 year old and when we brought this to their attention they took it away and brought it back 5 mins later having just microwaved it. Mashed avocado advertised but when it arrived it was supermarket guacamole. Chips raw. Other food was a terrible standard.I could go on. Utterly 1 star clueless, ruined a family birthday meal.

We went for Sunday lunch, 8 of us. It wasn’t crowded. The restaurant was nice and it’s windows facing the sea. The thing going for this restaurant was its sea facing position in Seaburn. Service was fine. I wished the food was better.

My daughter & my Granddaughter (ages 9 months) took me out for my birthday.

My hubby and I love the food at the Roker hotel , ( Crumbs) we are regular vistors and the waitress knows us well , but we popped in for breakfast this morning , the food was served cold . I burned my hand the plate was so hot , I think to warm my breakfast , I did eat it and reported it to the waitress when asked how our food was , I don’t like sending food back especially when it was a one off , hope this truly was a one off , I think we may give some where a try , sorry not up you standard today

After emailing you on 23/02/18 I have yet to receive a response, explanation or apology. My friends and I decided to meet up here for a catch up. We were waiting upon another guest for sometime, although the lady attending us did not say anything, her face and body language spoke clearly of her frustration and disapproval of our time taken to order. When our party was complete we ordered tea, coffee, cake, scone, Chicken Caesar salad and chips which took well over 45 minutes to arrive.

Went for a birthday party, quite a pleasant surprise. Afternoon tea served with a selection of sandwiches, scones and cakes. Tea is replaced with coffee if desired and fill=ups not a problem.

Had breakfast in the morning after our stay breakfast was lovely staff very helpful. We decided to stay and have some dinner, came out very well presented and most of all nice and hot. Staff again very helpful and happy. Fantastic service. Would highly recommend anyone to eat here. :)

My family and I arrived at ‘Let there be Crumbs’ for a pre-booked birthday afternoon tea. We were greeted by lovely staff who were very friendly and approachable. That is the best part of our experience.
