Lovely coffee but the prices are way too high for the toasties as they are very basic

Seating inside and in the shopping mall . Overpriced for poor quality food . Packet of cheese and onion crisps £1.35 , a small Fruit Shoot £1.50 , ham and cheese toastie ..overcooked and dry, lack of filling £4.95 . Jacket potato £3.15 with cheese a whopping £3.15 extra !!. The cheese was cooked with the jacket potato so came out as a glued mess on top which when it cooled was a blob of congealed cheese . A tiny piece of caramel slice £3.20 . Coffee was reasonable at £3.50. Before sitting down be aware of these rip off prices and poor quality food .

Not good...nearly £9.00 for a black coffee n a bacon sandwich, which took well over 5 mins to prepare, seemed to take 3 staff to make th bacon sandwich n th bacon was overdone, was asked if I wanted them to put th butter n sauce on for me...er...yes...yes i do...i dont wanna do ur job for u...not th worst place i ever been but wud not recommended n is an absolute rip off, will not go bk.

Atmosphere from when you walk in to when your leaving is so relaxed and positive, staff always have a smile and are always open for a chat, great selection of food and drinks and the quality/flavour is on par with major branded restaurants

Someone snuck a dog in through the back, the staff petted it and didn't wash their hands after.

Totally gutted when I visited here today!! This used to be the one place in town I felt safe having a coffee and a slice of cake as I have coeliacs and the lady in charge seemed really clued up about cross contamination etc. I don’t know if this lady has left but I went in today and was extremely disappointed to find the gluten free cake ( on the top shelf as normal) but with ordinary gluten containing cake right beside it. I tried to explain to one of the girls behind the counter that they couldn’t guarantee it being gluten free due to the cross contamination issue. She didn’t seem to care to be honest and said yes we always warn people as it’s in the same display case, which she hadn’t done when I asked if all the cake on that shelf was gluten free. Badly done esquires I won’t be back and will be definitely warning the gluten free community in Sunderland to avoid you too!

Here for coffees. Clean inside and in the mall seating area. Service was prompt and satisfactory. Coffee was nice.

Had a excellent full English breakfast here the service was great and the staff friendly and very helpful I would highly recommend this cafe to everyone.

Came here a while ago for 3 cups of tea and a toastie. It was expensive and didn't taste the nicest. Then when I got home I searched up this place to find it has been given a 1 star food hygiene rating. Horrific. Won't be back.

Outstanding customer service and delicious coffee and delicious food. The most amazing team with such an outstanding work ethic. We visit every week and it is the highlight of our day. The place is absolutely spotless as are the tables and chairs outside. Fabulous!

Pretty pathetic enforcement of company policy (allegedly). 7 tables free so we popped in for two coffees. Myself and daughter had bought a sandwich from greggs and they said we weren’t allowed to eat them at the table, even though wife was in queue for 2 coffees. ‘We sell sanwiches too’. If you owned a clothes shop would you ask people to leave if they’d bought a jumper elsewhere? Short sighted, lost a sale, we won’t be back

My bairn was getting feed the staff was very cheeky and tell me to move or buy something just to feed my bairn and they won't give me a jug of cold water to cool down my baby bottle I wouldn't give them 1 star

Absolutely disgusting lattes were far too strong more. Like an expresso , The wait time was forever, the toasties which had hardly any filling were burnt and black and when they asked if we wanted crisps or salad as a side they never mentioned they charged us extra for it. I also got jacket potato’s for myself which I thought was £2.95 then choose my filling and wanted cheeses as an extra turns out it’s £2.95 for a plain potato then £3 for filling and my extra filling was £1.50

Very nice, stopped by for a light breakfast bite and it was nice, good food and a comfortable relaxed atmosphere.

Tried a pot of tea and a sausage sandwich here only because costa was closed. We have tried Esquires on and off for a while but found them lacking in selection, particularly cold drinks. We tried a piece of cheesecake yesterday as well and it has the taste and texture of a rubber ball.....Esquires is OK for a tea or a coffee, but not much else.....

After an exhausting trip I popped in for a coffee and scone , when I ordered I asked if I could sit down and could they bring it to me , the very surly girl said you have to take it from here 😡 the scone was not fresh it was over microwaved ( which I didn’t ask for it to be )

At witnessing an elderly couple being refused admission because they did not have a smartphone. Like many older people over the last year, they could have been isolated after being locked away, looking forward to finally getting out for a coffee, to be then told to leave. I’ve noticed other venues have a book for people without smartphones to enter their names and numbers. I will never return!

The food tastes amazing. I love the vegan chocolate brownies here. The staff is polite and helpful. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is more ♿ accessible friendly than inside as the indoor seating is generally crowded. All the food and beverage is freshly hand made. A big thumbs up!

Popped in today for a flat white coffee, the manager shan was and always is very warming professional person, I love it in there, lovely woman and she sets the standards high.x

Been here today for a bite to eat and a latte with daughter and grandson we all had cheese and ham toastie which was served fresh the place was immaculate and half price with the eat out to help out so good news all round

Called into Esquires for the first time in a long time, when I first passed it was quite full so I decided to to call back around 45 minutes later, it was quite but it seems as though they could be operating a system to let the seating area clear as there was a sign up saying "No Seating Available" when I first went, however on my return I noticed all the tables & chairs were getting cleaned down, (which in my opinion was a very good idea if I'm right) and was then shown to my table which I asked for after I ordered. What I order was plain and simple and consisted of a latte, sausage roll and a slice of lemon drizzle cake, as for taste the sausage roll was the best I have tasted in along time and I informed them of this, looking forward to the next time I go to The Bridges, Sunderland so I can call into Esquires again.

Been to Esquires coffee in Durham today and the two young ladies that served me were absolutely lovely, very polite and caring as I was a bit nervous about being out for the first time in months. Thank you girls, you started my day off beautifully . 💜

This morning my daughter and I went into Esquires Cofee in the Bridges Sunderland Tyne and Wear. We were informed card only payment. Also, we were allowed to sit in with paper cups and purchase food. We ordered two flat whites, one bottle of coke, one almond bake. £9.07. The lady serving asked if we wanted a receipt which we said no. We sat down to drink our flat whites and were shocked to find the cup was a quarter full. We just came out as a lot of people were coming in. Won't be visiting that establishment again

We are not fans of the big three coffee chains, so it was good to come across Esquires. We enjoyed an all-day breakfast baguette each and a good mug of coffee to wash it down. The staff were pleasant and helpful and the food was well presented, tasty and served in comfortable surroundings. Free wi-fi is available via your purchase, as the access code is on your till receipt. It was a great place to refuel and chill for a while and we will certainly call in again,next time we are in Sunderland.

A wide range of hot and cold drinks, food is pretty good if you want a sandwich and good choice of cakes. Staff are super friendly, made my niece's day with her 'special' hot chocolate. Extra care to make it warm but not boiling for her.

Average tea and coffee, perfectly acceptable, actually okay, but the service was sluggish and was a good 10 minutes to get served when second in line in the queue.(and it was a regular order in front of me). Not top of the list for a revisit.

Cosy cafe in The Bridges with extra seating located in the shopping mall itself. Very popular with all ages. Wide food and drink selection available.

Fantastic. Lovely coffees and hot food. Could not fault it. Service with a Smile when it's busy in run up to Xmas. And they had some tricky customers causing them issues their customer service was spot on.

The pulled pork in my "melt" was refrigerator cold, inside a lukewarm baguette; the rest of the food was good to very good, but when I develop food poisoning from halfway reheated pork, I won't recall that. The service at the counter was slower than molasses rolling uphill in January (and for what was I waiting? not for someone to heat my sandwich, I assure you) and the staff were mostly distracted and uncommunicative. Questions about food and payment seemed difficult. Regarding payment: somewhat overpriced even if everything had been outstanding, which was not the case. Bottom line: stick to coffees and maybe a pastry, if you visit. Do not expect value for money, quality service, or for basic food hygiene standards to be observed.

I love this place, mein hosts David and Doreen are lovely friendly people! Best toasted teacakes ever and having had my fair share of cappuccinos from everywhere I've now gone on to americano, both are wonderful!
