The reality versus the hype ! This rank cold coffee bore no resemblance to the glossy photo. It was undrinkable. It is NOT worth £3.

50 minute wait for a meal... Asked the staff where our food was, got told "I shouted there was a 20 min wait before". A bit of a difference between 20&50 minutes. Typing this review while waiting so wait time will actually be longer than this... Food arrived straight after this review. Portion sizes were abysmal... No salt available. The sausage and chips we ordered came with ONE sausage & 7 chips 😂 not coming back here

After waiting over 25 minutes, this is supposed to be a BBQ Chicken burger!. Surely this against the Trade Descriptions Act, no chicken burger, just 2 over cooked chicken nuggets with a single dollop of BBQ sauce. All for over £6, never again. Shame on Sainsbury.

I ordered Jacket potato with tuna and sweetcorn. A small potato, wilted salad leaves and there was more mayo than tuna. The worst meal I've had from here 😡 The cup of tea was ok

Sainsbury's cafes used to be so good - they used to do items like bacon sandwiches with loads of bacon on big slices of white doorstop bread. Then for some reason it all changed a few years back and has got progressively worse since then. I went in for some lunch on a Saturday afternoon a couple of weeks ago - at 1.30pm on a SATURDAY there were only 2 other tables taken so it goes to show the reputation for this cafe is well known. Despite this there were quite a number of tables with dirty cups and plates where they hadn't been cleaned away. This seems to be the case every time I come to this cafe. I ordered a coffee (was decent as served to me immediately) and some food which took an age to arrive, bearing in mind they weren't busy, and was lukewarm. I left half of it. Last Saturday I tried M&S cafe in the Arnison retail park instead, and the place was completely full. Maybe just go for a coffee if you want a break from supermarket shopping, but avoid the food menu, I've given it too many chances and nothing changes.

It is Sainsburys what the hell do you expect. 30min Wait for luke warm food, It fills a hole and it is handy with it being in Sainsbury's. At least the coffee is nice. Very busy from time to time with all the grannys having a day out.

Having left a previously very favourable review something horrible has obviously happened somewhere along the line. As having revisited for the first time in 6 months we were thoroughly unimpressed. Firstly, the queue was absolutely huge when we arrived at 11am, so hardly peak time, and yet they only seemed to have one member of staff actually taking orders. The young woman was very obviously barely coping with the workload and the queue only got longer once we were served. Next, once ordered our food took way too long to be brought to our table. We only ordered two warmed paninis so it wasn't exactly a complex meal that needed to be prepared. Finally, the food itself was very lacking. As the photo shows the paninis barely had any filling at all. At least 1/3 had nothing at all and only bread on bread. Which is ridiculous considering you could buy a large sandwich or baguette from the Sainsburys downstairs for half the price.

Very diappointing. Ordered a bacon sandwich, when it arrived the bacon was cold, the spicy bean burger was also ordered that came with chips instead of sweet potatoe chips????? We were offered a free pot of tea as compensation. In all very poor, food should be served as advertised and as ordered

5 item breakfast. If you are going to compete with the other cafes in Chester-le-Street you have to been good. There are a number to chose from and ones that have been established for decades. Cafe 91 has been going for a few years and I have visited about 2-3 times. I ordered a 5 item breakfast for £4.75 (which includes tea or coffee) When they say 5 item breakfast they literally mean that. One rasher of bacon and one small chipolata sausage. One slice of toast. There is an option for a bigger breakfast I would have chosen had I known. The coffee was a filter coffee although it wasn't made via a filter machine. So overall the food wasn't good and service decidedly average.

While the atmosphere was... well, interesting, the sticky carpet was a constant reminder that perhaps cleanliness wasn't a top priority. It was as if the bar had been the site of a particularly messy cocktail party that had gone on for decades.
