Sainsbury's Cafe in Southampton

I have to use one of their electric buggies to do my shopping. I could easily get to the counter and the girls put my coffee on the table for me. Many thanks.

They do kids meal. You can eat there or have a cuppa before or after your household shopping very convinience.

Pedimos papas fritas con nuestro pollo cazadores. Después de esperar 30 minutos nuestra comida apareció con chips ordinarios. Estábamos tan hambrientos y cortos de tiempo para entonces que solo pedimos un reembolso del extra que habíamos pagado. Pero oh no. No se nos permitió un reembolso. No no no. Nuestra comida fue borrada y nos hicieron esperar incluso más tiempo hasta que reapareció con papas fritas sin sabor quemadas en su lugar.No iré allí otra vez.

A diferencia de Morrison`s, que son muy flexibles y servirán diferentes combinaciones para adaptarse, Sainsbury`s no son lo mismo. Quería patatas fritas con lasaña en lugar de la ensalada, solo para que me dijeran que podían soltar la ensalada, pero ¿tendría que pagar el precio completo por una porción de patatas fritas? Entonces Sainsbury gana mientras pierdo.

Title says it all. Service, lack of, disgusted me. Asked for refund. Eventually got it. Never again. Rude staff. Rude shop. Macdonalds treat one better.

Just went for coffee and cake. Very nice. Friendly helpful staff and reasonable prices. It is upstairs but there is a lift so as also to give access for disabled people. The toilets are up there also which were very clean and well looked after.

Me encanta su café y siempre me llevé a mi nieto de 14 meses, a quien también le encantó. Luego hice mi compra semanal con él, desafortunadamente con la estadía máxima de 2 horas, ahora no tengo el tiempo, ya que puedes imaginar que un niño pequeño es muy lento de llevar contigo. Así que ahora tengo que ir a Tesco's, donde no hay límite de tiempo, y podemos disfrutar de nuestras 2 o 3 horas allí. Incluso si pagaste, no me importaría, pero no hay otra opción para eso.

Nuestra comida fue muy buena, la comida tardó un poco en llegar a nosotros, pero estaba muy ocupada. Pedimos muy buena comida y el tamaño de las porciones era bueno, de tamaño medio y sabroso. Tampoco fue tan caro ser honesto. Elija sabiamente, ya que algunos platos de las revisiones anteriores también dicen que algunos son caros. Nuestra comida fue alrededor de 12 a 15, lo cual fue razonable para lo que teníamos. Mi novia y yo disfrutamos de nuestra experiencia y volveríamos si en las inmediaciones.

We both had Christmas turkey roasts with mugs of teas. These were both faultless, sprouts not overcooked, perfect roasties. Waitress was friendly and whats more the meal arrived in less than 3 minutes.We will be back.

staff looked bored and fed up tbh no rush in anything they did had cup of tea which is hard to muck up so all was good very clean and tables cleared

Have eaten a few times here and its the best supermarket cafe. Staff always polite and helpful. Food cooked to order hot and fresh. Fish and chips, ham egg and chips with two pots of tea for just over a tenner. Lovely.

The service is poor. The food doesn't taste all that great. Tried both breakfasts and meals but not liked much that I had. The cafe in Shirley is far better.

Nos tienda en sainsburys 2 o 3 veces a la semana, después de que a menudo ir arriba para una taza de té y algo de comer. Solemos comer aquí una vez a la semana. El bacalao y las patatas fritas siempre es buena y hay muchas otras opciones, ven una cena turquía asado en esta época del año.

Buen lugar para reunirse si planea ir de compras juntos. Aparcamiento fácil y situado en la parte superior de Portswood High Street. Muchos van en una tienda de caridad dirigido desde aquí entonces no una tienda de comida antes de ir a casa

Una amplia variedad de comida, bonita vista de la calle, y en general un lugar decente. :D no está mal. :)

La comida bastante bien, muy buen precio pero no toma mucho tiempo para salir! Las bebidas son buenas, perfecto para un desayuno rápido antes/después de ir de compras.

Thought I would go to the sainsburys cafe for a drink before shopping but no one was their to serve me or another Customer. .had a bit of a wait ..poor Service

I have been a few times and found the food failey decent and the wait not too long. Its loads better then the one in Shirley by far.

.. and it's still a great place for Breakfast .. the foods decent also the staff are all friendly and seem well trained .. infact I like that after you have eaten some of your meal they ask if everything was OK .. this cafe is in a large well lit upstairs area and you can sit by a window and people watch .. or read one of the provided newspaper ... I must add that unlike in my previous review I had no problem with dirty tables and unmoved dishes ..

Food here is average, as is the service. Cafe was quite messy, all day brunch is a good option, nice selection of cakes, not much for vegetarian or vegan diners.

we made the mistake of eating here, the food looked awful and tasted worse so much so that it was taken back to the counter and our money was refunded. Area needed to be cleaned of all the dirty crockery and rubbish on the tables. \Definitely won't be using this premises again.

Stopped for teabags between hotel and port and stayed for brunch. Nicely and quickly presented, excellent value too.

A year ago this was a great cafe. Sadly, over the past year it has become very variable with the quality of the food being served becoming increasingly poor - though the coffee remains pleasant enough. Today, my usual 'Big Breakfast' included under-cooked hash browns (inedible) and limp, undercooked bacon, only just cooked sausages, and a very meagre serving of baked beans. My wife's cheese and mushroom omelette was similarly served with two under cooked and inedible hash browns. I suspect they have changed cooks over the past year, and it's a shame as its so cheap and typically of the area friendly.

I had the kiddies breakfast and my husband had the full English. With two pots of tea (each with 2 plus cups) it was less than £10. Great value. Well cooked (not greasy) food. Lots of butter on the toast. Lovely!

Went there a few months back with my partner for lunch. We went up and ordered them came to look for a place to sit but most of the area was not clean enough with litter and stains everywhere so we had to get someone to clear a table so we could sit and wait for the food to arrive. Overall food is good, price is okay but cleanliness is poor!!

Service is the slowest I have ever seen; not only at the till but also after sitting down with your number to wait for the food. I had a toasted tea cake that took 30 minutes to arrive!! You can see into the 'kitchen' from the till area and it is dirty, as are the tables we had to clean ourselves.

We just spent a week here in Portswood visiting family and ate here each morning ..we were just two of a few customers there early ... overall the staff were friendly and nothing was too much bother for them .. the food was served quickly,hot and well presented the only negative would be that some tables were not wiped down after clearing .. but overall good job ..

ordered a coffee and cinnamon bread which I asked to be toasted. I was given a number and my coffee which I took to my table. After 20 minutes, having drunk my coffee I was about to ask for a refund on my cinnamon toast when it arrived. To say it was a burnt offering was putting it mildly, I was surprised that it was even bought to the table in that state.. To be fair I didn't even have to ask for my money back as the staff at the counter took one look at the offering and gave me my money back without question. If they cannot manage to cook "toast" I dread to think how their meals come out. Will not be going back there in a hurry.

I asked for two decaf black coffees and after the third attempt if serving urine coloured hot water I was advised to get a refund downstairs at customer services. So I had to walk down the road to Costa and come back to sit down with work colleagues eating a tepid breakfast!!! Really!!!!!!

I eat breakfast at this cafe perhaps two or three times every month, and generally love it. However, of late the quality has become inconsistent (the fried bread tastes like it has been cooked in motor oil, some breakfast components on the plate hot, others cold), and the last straw was receiving some raw black pudding, which had been sufficiently warmed to encourage bacterial growth and seal the outside, but left the inside pink and me with explosive diarrhoea later that weekend. I am really deeply saddened at the changes which have occurred over the summer of 2014 at Sainsbury's cafe, and regret that I can no longer recommend this venue :(

Nice food at a good price. Good selection of food. Service was quick and the staff were very friendly. Good location. Would recommend.

I frequently enjoy and I mean ENJOY the 'Big Breakfast' at the Sainsburys Cafe in Portswood (for breakfast this is the BEST cafe around), but today, due to domestic commitments I was too late for breakfast and opted for the 'Mega Brunch' from the lunch menu instead. Such a disappointment. While the fried eggs, sausages and beans were all the same as the breakfast, the mushroom was a watery and flavourless affair, and the chips certainly sub-standard. This is so sad, I know its the same staff cooking, and one can only assume that either they don't know how to cook chips (plausible) or that the packet chipped potatoes they use are of poor quality (equally plausible).If you fancy lunch, go else where, or just stick to a coffee and a cake (both of which are great, I adore their latte and my teenage daughter raves about the milkshakes). If Mr Sainsbury is reading this (not very plausible), then PLEASE do something about your 'main meals' served after 11:30, as they detract from what is otherwise a great cafe.

Lovely staff and tasty breakfast - very reasonable. Hot chocolate was a bit watery but eggs were good! We will definitely return.

Supermarket cafes are taking over from the traditional transport cafe in the UK, and Sainsbury's cafe at their store in Portswood Southampton is a typical example. Light, airy, clean and serving simple food and good coffee well at low prices. No wonder then that it is popular not just with shoppers, but also with construction workers dropping in for breakfast and brunch, the retired for morning coffee and afternoon tea, and parents with children alike.The cafe serves a great cooked breakfast, with flexibility on what is included. Don't like tomatato with your breakfast? Swap it for an extra hash brown. Fancy a bit of black pudding? That can be provided for an extra charge/ Fried eggs can be changed for scrambled, toast for fried bread etc.Various Italian style coffees are available, as well as hot chocolate, pots of tea and also herbal teas. All done from a self-service counter and then brought to your table. It's not glamorous, but it is very good for what it is, and at a low price which makes it popular.Obviously not a place for a special event! But very acceptable for a social meeting over a cup of coffee and a piece of cake, and hard to beat for a real 'builder's breakfast' for under a tenner!

It's usually good to have an in-store cafe for those times when you need a quick bite after shopping, but you have to be fairly desperate to rely on this one. One of the biggest problems I have encountered is that I have visited at lunchtime, only to find that most of the staff seem to be away enjoying theirs, leading to quite long waits at the counter. Scones and cakes on offer are often doughy or dry and are very unappetising. I have also eaten (on separate occasions), the full English breakfast which was passable, but in part overcooked, and fish and chips when the fish was only just passably cooked through and the batter still had a raw, uncooked taste. Although it has not happened to me, I have observed several people being given the wrong order after waiting for some time for their food to be brought. I try to give the cafe a miss as often as possible, given that there are several other alternatives very close by.

Having recently been to an overrated chippy I was absolutely delighted with the quality and price (£1.19) of the chips here (crispy, light brown, piping hot), with mayo at no extra charge. The £1 chocolate muffin that came with two cups of well-priced coffee was also one of the best I have seen, with large chocolate chunksSuch a shame that the cafe lacks any intimate spaces or plants or other decor to relieve the harsh surroundings. And while the chef was attentive, the person supposedly on duty seemed to have her mind on other things.
