Situated in St Johns Wood, we would have expected the eateries to be pricey (high overhead costs, etc) but this Lebanese restaurant was offering a lunchtime deal so we thought we would dine there. After alerting them of my wife's food allergies they appeared to be able to satisfy our requirements from the lunchtime menu but after ordering they decided to steer my wife towards an alternative choice which we thought would still be charged at the lunch offer price. It wasn't. So a meal for the two of us (once the high service charge had been added) came to £47.00 rather than the £35.00 anticipated. So we did feel rather taken advantage of. A short-sighted strategy as we will now not return to this restaurant. The food itself was decent, if not outstanding and portions reasonable. Service was friendly and the atmosphere pleasant. Just a pity we came away with the impression that we had been overcharged for our meal.

We were at Lord’s for the cricket and popped out here for lunch. We ordered the buffet and the food was good (I wouldn’t say it was better than just good). Service was good too. It was nice to sit outside to eat on a lovely, warm day.

Friendly reservation process and they were prepared for us. Didn’t rush us except at the end it was an abrupt “we’re closing NOW” Food was fine. Not great, not bad. Only really memorable thing was the bill - had service charge added. Then the waiter informed me of the option on the credit card device to add more, and created an uncomfortable awkwardness when I pointed out that service charge had already been added to the bill. For that reason alone, I shan’t be going back. That and the not great/not bad food.

The ambience good, the service good and a friendly (ish) waiter. I ordered sauteed vegetables, they were undoubtedly frozen veg, I recognised it to be as I've used it in the past, I wouldn't go to a restaurant and expect frozen veg, ever! Lentil soup was ok, bit tasteless but ok. The falafel wrap was tasteless too. Wouldn't go back, was expecting better.

I've been three times at this restaurant the last week, one at lunch time and two at dinner, all experiences were great and the staff very welcoming. My wife left her jacket with her wallet inside in one of the visits and they kept everything in a safe place to ensure that was returned as found. Thank you for your amazing service and congratulations to the chef's.

Did a takeaway ... food was spoilt so I called them back. They agreed it was spoilt only after checking with the kitchen. I asked for a refund and was told the owner can only do that who is not there but “promised” me he will call the next day ... still waiting! Never ever again ... it’s over priced as it is - rookie mistake to go there

I have been twice to this restaurant. Whenever i visit a restaurant, i put more emphasis on taste and quality of the food. So on that one, the earn 4.5 stars. I ordered Hummus, Hindbeh, lahma bi ajeen, chicken tawook, and all were very good. I would go to eat again and recommend it over all the other major Lebanese restaurants in central london. I tried 5-6 places, but this one so far is at the top. The way to tell if a restaurant has good food is to check their appetizers, and all are good. The hummus is the best in London.

Surely you should apologise for the wait and tell us it's cold and a fresh one is being made rather than letting us bring it to your attention and expect us to eat cold food No remorse or acknowledgement of this experience from the staff Thanks for the terrible service and food. This is my third time at this restaurant with a third consecutive poor experience. I will not be returning.1. 3 out of the 4 courses ordered were poorly prepared. Two guests who ordered the shwarama wraps commented that there was next to no shwarama in them and that they were cold. It was quiet clear that the meat had come out of a container as opposed to being cut fresh on the joint.2. We arrived for dinner at 8.30pm. At 9.45pm we had finished our starters and main courses. We were offered dessert which one our guests accepted. One of the female members of staff was clearly not happy with this decision (not the polite girl with the long, curly hair but the lady with the long black hair which was tied in a ponytail who appeared to be the manager or "in charge"). She took little trouble to disguise her discontent, throwing her head back in exasperation and saying words to the effect of "What a pain. What can't they just leave without dessert." Needless to say, all of us saw this and we did not order dessert. We mentioned this to our server (who was polite and pleasant through) and she was clearly embarrassed by her manager's conduct.A poor meal with poor behaviour from the manager no less. We will not be returning. We will go to Ofra up the road where the service and food is leagues better.I would add that this is the second time I have seen this particular person behave like this. Some time ago, I attended with a friend close to closing time (but not after). We were seated. We then ordered. After we had ordered, this same lady came to us and said that they had decided to close the kitchen and that we had to leave. She was unapologetic and while not rude, was certainly not polite about it.I appreciate that after a long day at work, people are not always at their best. However, in the service industry this is unacceptable behaviour. It will be interesting to see if the restaurant will address this sort of conduct and offer an open apology on this forum.

Called in after a concert at 9.30pm. To begin with a prompt efficient service. The food arrived quickly to find it was very over cooked including burnt lamb cutlets which some were in eatable. Our original waiter had left and it was difficult to get our point over to the second waiter as his English was very poor. Within 20 mins of us eating a girl started sweeping the floor and three deliverroo drivers drew up into the pavement entered the restaurant and then used it as a social gathering along with the waiter who joined in with them and drank apple tea along with them all doing business on them. They say near us in their moped helmets this was very off putting and actually spoiled our dining experience. We quickly paid our bill and left. Sorry Sahara we won't return ever again and if you want to survive in St Johns high street opposite the new Ivy Cafe you should educate your staff to put their customers first.Goodbye but I'm taking my money elsewhere.

We ordered the set menu for 2, at £25 each we were expecting a fairly big meal. The starters (hot + cold fatoush) were good enough. The mains came out... we thought that we'd hit the jackpot with a huge plate of mixed grill, then they bought a 2nd much smaller one, less than half the size. The head waiter then came out and proceeded to tell off our waitress, before taking the larger plate away, but no apology to us. We got this and a bowl of vegetables for mains, all in all about the size of one main course. No lamb chops, just cheap meat like koftas and the meat we got was mostly very dry. Given the cost of the normal mixed grill, we definitely didn't get value for money here. Nowhere near £50 worth of food!We were in a bit of a rush so asked for the bill and dessert to take away. Our waitress then took 2 more orders and I had to go to the bar to pay. By this time we were running late for our train, so I had no time to query the service charge of 12% that was added to the bill. There was no way this service deserved any tip, let alone the rip-off prices and quantities. Avoid this, a very disappointing experience.

We walked along St Johns Wood High Street looking for somewhere to have a late lunch before going to an evening cricket match at Lord's. We decided to try Sahara and were not disappointed. We weren't quite sure what to order as we hadn't tried Lebanese food before. The waiter suggested we share a selection of mezzes to start. We chose a vegetarian selection, as I don't eat meat and my husband doesn't eat fish. it was very good, with hummus, smoked aubergine dip, vine leaves, savoury pastries, flatbread, etc. My husband then had lamb with sautéed vegetables and I had calamari with a cucumber salad/dip. The vegetables were more like a microwaved selection than sautéed and the calamari was a little stodgy rather than crispy. But overall, most of the food was very good. We also had a bottle of house white wine from the Bekaa Valley, which was good and went well with the food. Service throughout was friendly.

Came here with friends on Thursday evening. 02/06/2016Friendly service, nice atmosphere - and the food was tasty, fresh and not dripping in oils like some Middle Eastern eateries. The Halloumi is the best I have ever eaten. No idea what they do to it before they grill it - but it's juicy, tasty and not the usual squeaky rubber like cheese you get in some places. Mezzes and salads are plentiful in variety and portion size. The mains were delicious too - although our eyes were bigger than our bellies - and we did overeat - but it was all so delicious. Would recommend for a meal out with friends or a date night.

We plumped for the set menu - and we were not disappointed as the food just kept coming! Delicious hummus, falafel, aubergine dip, sausages, dolmades, meat- and vegetable- and bean-dishes. The only tiny criticism (and the reason it gets four and not a perfect five-star rating) was presenting three chicken wings between four - very awkward at the carnivorous end of the table.Lovely, friendly staff and good value for money. We will definitely be back.

I truly enjoy Lebanese cuisine. They have an interesting combination of Mediterranean character and flavors but I often see overly well done, dry meats and over or under seasoned meats. Having a variety of both starters and mains, I noted both the elegant presentation as well as just the right level of seasoning to complement but not overwhelm the ingredients. Service was very personal. Location was great on Saint Johns Wood High street which is a great place to walk about and the nearby church park is very historical and quite beautiful, Near Lords Cricket Grounds and several underground and bus lines - easy too get to and from.

I've been to Sahara several times, and always taken friends along. Unfortunately, it disappointed this time. The staff were very good and tried to make up for their lack of succulent and tasty lamb chunks, by replacing the dishes with chicken and kebabs. Do not go for the chunks of meat pieces in your dish, instead opt for the mince kebabs. However, the starters were excellent. The lamb in baby okra stew was good, if you're a gooey-okra fan. Dishes are generous so sharing is advised.

Arrived slightly early after an easy walk from Lords with my 2 blind friends. There was some confusion identifying our OpenTable reservation, but we were quickly made welcome and seated easily. They were quick to take our order for a set menu Meze and 3 Lebanese beers + water. Quick seemed to be the order of the day, everything arrived very fast, initially this was good, but the speed with which subsequent courses arrived was a little unnerving! There was a good selection of cold and warm (should have been hot) dishes which were pleasant, if not outstanding, but the quantity could not be faulted. For "out of towners" the prices seemed a little high, but are probably about par for the area. We were made very welcome, left feeling full after some interesting flavours , so will probably return another year.

I have visited Sahara 5 times now and every time the food has been fantastic. The Shisha is reasonably priced and they have a variety of flavours. I feel that the food is slightly expensive especially after service charge and it is a shame that they don't take tastecard but overall Sahara is a really nice restaurant and I would recommend it.

Just finished lunch, £9.Finest kofta I've eaten, houmous like velvet, fresh taboleh, complimentary olives, spare pitta for mopping up complimentary fresh baklava, I think becouse I praised the waiter. Amazed this isn't full at lunchtime but great that it's quiet as I can smoke outside without annoying other eaters.Value for lunch people

The food at Sahara is excellent with good kid options as well. The staff is very nice and warm and made good food recommendations proactively. Perfect for healthy family dinner. The only thing that isn't great is the smoke from the Shisha especially if you are sitting in the back room.

We went here on Saturday for an early meal, as we were going to a show. The restaurant was pretty empty, which usually means the staff are eager and attentive as they want to be busy. The waiter who took our drinks order was gruff, uninterested and really had to push himself to give any answer, when asked if the beer was nice.We shared some starters which were all very tasty. It was a large amount of food, but the waiter hadn't suggested that 3 dishes for 4 of us would be sufficient. Not sure if he was on commission, or just uninterested. The mains were all pretty bland. The waiter had been totally unhelpful about suggesting side dishes or accompaniments. The rice we ordered as a side didn't arrive and it took what seemed like a long time to produce a very small pot of the garlic sauce which the menu said was to accompany my chicken. It was welcome, as otherwise it would have been a bland dish.Having said that, I enjoyed the food, which was all fresh and I felt very full by the time we left.I did feel that if we had been advised, or known more about Lebanese food, we could have had a better meal.It was pretty good value for money. I wouldn't make a special trip, but I'd eat there again if looking for somewhere around the HIgh Street. Please send the waiters to charm school.

We loved the selection of kebabs and the Lebanese mezze that we ordered. The food came first, the service was great and overall we would thoroughly recommend this place if you like Middle Eastern cuisine

Once a madcap café now an unassuming Lebanese restaurant with a varied choice of traditional dishes and a wonderfully mixed clientele. Well worth a visit. Try the fixed price. Excellent value.

The food here is hit or miss, with quality of cooking varying depending on the day or night. Generally overpriced for what you get. But the biggest reason for the "terrible" rating is that the waitstaff is incompetent. I order from here quite a bit (since local to me) and constantly have to check the price or I will be overcharged and the order is often wrong. This last order was the final straw and given the food quality seems to be going down, I won't be ordering again.

Very average restaurant... I have been to many restaurants of this type and this was a disapointment..It was a take away for a group of friends I ordered. I told the person to give me a selection of the best things they had and I was expecting loads of vegetables, typical dishes etc.. I ended up with many 'falafel' type of dishes, meat and even chips..The food was just not great. I can't say more than this.Value for money is poor.

Eating at the Sahara leaves you feeling replete and virtuous. The food is healthy food yet very tasty. We had tabbouleh, dolmades, falafel followed by very refreshing mint tea

We had a selection of mezze: Delicious tart green olives, lemony hummus, absolutely delicious mujedderah (lentils and rice with strips of fried onion), flavourful falafel and just OK kibbeh - couldn't recommend their kibbeh. Lovely mint tea afterwards served with delightful baklava. I live in the Middle East but thought the food here was really excellent. A friend eats here regularly and always likes the food. The gentlemen staff were obviously not keen on the 4 kids being in the restaurant at a peak time (although they were very well behaved) but the lady waitress was fine with them. Look forward to coming again.

We sat outside and ate at Sahara on a warm summer evening. They laid up extra tables on the pavement due to the weather, no doubt. We have not eaten inside. It was very pleasant and the food was tasty, nevertheless the service was painfully slow, we waited close to 40 minutes to get our main corse. Perhaps with the extra tables the kitchen was stretched. When I mentioned this to the waiter, his excuse was that the chicken cubes were "grilled" and took longer - I responded "not in my kitchen!," He also had to be asked a few times for the pita bread ,in spite of this we will go again the food was good the price for two was £50 for one course with tea and a glass of red wine each, chicken main dish a portion of special rice and humous with some fresh veg

After looking forward to my meal I was disappointed that the lamb was cooked drier than the Sahara and felt the dessert would of been a better option.... Hope my second visit to a Lebanese restaurant offers a little more in the way of fine dining

I am always nervous when the waiter takes your order without writing it down. He took ours and only my starter came, after one reminder and 20 minutes my daughter got hers. The food was reasonably good, the lentil soup was tasty and the main courses were fine. Would I go back? maybe, but I'd take a notepad for the waiters.

is terrible, was in a group of 5. We were taken to our table on arrival and given menus, after 15-20mins a drinks order was taken after we had to ask to order some drinks. Once everyone had chosen what to eat we waited for someone to take our order, no one came despite staff constantly walking past our table, we even told staff member that we were ready to order, still no one came, after 35mins of being ignored finally someone came to explain in a very abrupt and rude manger that they were short staffed, and running behind and if we wanted to go elsewhere to go elsewhere! How rude, will never step foot in this place ever again!!!!

We ordered the sample menu. The gave us quite a big portions but everything was very disappointing. A burned humus as a started (how can you do that?!!?) was our first sign. The mixed grilled was one of the less tasty i have ever tried, especially the lamb. I think everything was microwaved! If we also consider the price those guy charge, that makes it in the list of places i will never go again, even if it was the last restaurant in the world.

Starters were good. Wine was good. Mains were good, but price-shock at bill time wasn’t. £145 for a steak that was good but not great, shared between 4, wasn’t a happy ending. We were told that the policy of the restaurant is “replace any steak which customers are unhappy about at the point of serving”… which is a strange way of measuring customer satisfaction, as you won’t know what you’re being charged until you see the bill. Nearly £800 for four diners (starters, 3 bottles of wine, turbot, a steak, side dishes)… £180+ per person didn’t feel like fair value. I won’t come again.
