Sagar Vegetarian Covent Garden Restaurant in City of London, Westminster

We went for dosa. Dosa was awful. Overpriced and food quality poor. The food was lukewarm. The coconut chutney, coconut tasted oily as if it had gone rancid. When asked to speak to the manger was told he was on break. Service was poor. Will not go there again.

Went for a pre-theatre meal with my sister during a trip to London. The food was good and there was plenty of it but when it came to the bill things took a different turn. Rather than bringing a paper bill the waiter just brought the card machine and showed me an amount. He then asked what tip I wanted to add. When I asked whether a service charge had already been added (which is usually standard for restaurants these days) he pretended he didn't understand. As we were rushing to get to the theatre my sister suggested £10 and he added this amount. When I got home I decided to check on the website and - you guessed it - it states a discretionary service charge of 12.5% will be added to each bill! Really annoyed by this as we had not been difficult customers or complained about anything and didn't deserve to be treated this way, although I accept I should have been more insistent about it.

We have eaten here twice before the food was excellent, out for another trip we went to eat here again my daughter had the veg khurma it was tasteless veg overcooked I had veg Kutoo absolutely vile this is supposed to be cooked in coconut with cream no taste of coconut or cream it was grey and watery no cashews in it either complete and utter waste of money very poor food

We always visit Sagar at least once a week when in London and this time we visited thrice in two weeks. Tonight was the worst experience....not the food but the time it took to get the meals to us......we waited 45 mins. Seemingly the dumb waiter was not working and for some reason it took very much longer to get the meals to the restaurant. We were not warned of this. I see the service charge cost is mentioned already in reviews and the fact that staff do not get paid their service charge. 12.5% is an 1/8 of the cost so have never paid it. Their till seemingly, so they say, cant be altered to any other % so we just pay for the meal. There does not seem to be an older manager overlooking what goes on and the English of the staff is very poor.

As I was eating the paneer sludge as it can only be described I was so utterly disappointed with the smell and taste and temperature. It was like a weird onion cheese mix with bits of reheated panned. Gross I feel sick thinking about it!!! It used to be so much better here. I had an upset tummy for 2 days afterwards. Never again. Sorry

Total wastage of time too much costly food trying to overprice local customers late service food quality not up to the mark

We’ve eaten here a number of times over the years so we weren’t expecting what happened. Which was that my husband ordered a number of dishes for us, including the aubergine curry, which is called Baingan Bharta in many Indian restaurants. That’s the term he used—it’s called Brinjal Bhajee here. The appetizers and the dosa arrived along with the bread we’d ordered with the curry. It took us a while and several conversations to communicate that we were missing a dish. The waiter couldn’t be bothered to figure out what had gone wrong. Only when I asked for the menu after we’d paid the bill did we discover the error. But the point is that there was no apology. My husband had clearly ordered SOMETHING but the waiter couldn’t be bothered either at the time or after the fact to figure out what had gone wrong. Grudgingly, he said he’d order it for us but as I said that was after we’d received the bill. The whole attitude was that he just couldn’t be bothered. We weren’t yelling; we were just stunned. We left with an unpleasant taste in our mouths. My husband picked at his bread and left it. Bad experience.

Delicious and tasty. I ordered the dosa cooked with lentils and cottage cheese. The diss was the size of the table— crispy and light. — just the right balance with the sauces. Very generous portions. Naitik was a friendly host!

Rrestarant an staff were excellent, shame then to hesr that service charge gies to the company and if you want to tip the staff you have to make another payment.

This restaurant in Panton Street is an improvement on the Woodlands which used to be there. Still South Indian, but nicely revamped. Clean, good service, lovely dhosa and samba. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal, looking forward to our next visit.

We were there for a dinner one evening. I was craving for dosa for so long so thought of giving it a try. The food isn't great in anyway. Its plentiful but doesn't taste great. although the service is faultless and the staff is very polite and friendly. They need to up their game.

I ordered idli for £5.99, only got 2 pieces which were not very hot and the samba was not hot it was more or less cold, and you get a Tiny portion.I Don’t understand why the food dose not come out hot especially the samba VERY, VERY DISAPPOINTED, I wont be coming back at all because of the cold samba, you need to check that all food is piping hot before giving it to the customers.DISAPPOINTED, DISAPPOINTED, DISAPPOINTED MASSIVE LET DOWN, not taste in the idli and samba

It is sad to see when the website said this Sagra resturant is open on Sunday lunch Take away , and when you drive from south London to Coven garden , and the restaurant are close, despite you say open on your website We Arriving to the Coven garden to find it closed ........, On the door it ask you to go to the one in West end , you cannot get to that resturant by car , as the whole of Tottenham court Road is closed for cars , and that is the only way for us to get there from south London..........Maybe you should get somebody to upgrade your website , as deliveries will not go from North to south London. It would make it easier if you could inform people if you are open for take away for Sunday lunch

Fuimos a almorzar y sentimos que los aspectos de seguridad eran altos. Pedí un paneer y chana marsala, ambos deliciosos. Los poppadoms y los bhaji's de cebolla están muy bien hechos y son tan sabrosos. Un verdadero hallazgo; satisfecho tanto a mi hija vegana como a mi esposo amante de la carne. Los platos principales, el pudín, las bebidas y los tés llegaron a aproximadamente 74, lo cual es genial para Londres (y todo se sirve cortésmente).

Realmente disfruté la oportunidad de elegir entre una amplia variedad de platos vegetarianos. El paneer saag era muy agradable. ¡Era la primera vez que probaba una bebida lassi de mango y fue maravilloso! El servicio fue rápido. El camarero usaba una máscara pero no se tapaba la nariz, lo que me hizo sentir un poco incómodo.

Nunca había sido vegetariano antes, sin embargo, teníamos lo que ellos llaman thalis para poder experimentar los sabores del norte y del sur. Cada plato en nuestros platos tenía varios platos, cada uno con un sabor diferente. No echamos de menos la carne y quedamos muy satisfechos con nuestras comidas. El servicio también fue muy bueno y se implementaron restricciones en la nube que nos tranquilizaron. Definitivamente lo recomendaría tanto a los que comen carne como a los vegetarianos y espero volver pronto.

Comida de mal sabor, pérdida de dinero. La mayoría del personal que no usa máscaras en medio de Covid - 19, el personal que lleva una máscara se la baja en la cara sin cubrir su boca y nariz, sin embargo, siguen acercándose a todos los clientes. Evitar.

My family went there yesterday. We were really looking forward to having dosa and sev puri, etc but the quality was poor compared to authentic Indian street food. Such a downer. Gave us a lot of wind as well, all day! 🤮

Everything we ordered was so delicious and the service was great. I highly recommend the masala dosa, garlic rice & vegan korma. Very reasonably priced and a great wine selection. Lots of great gluten free and vegan options.

My dad and I found this place by accident, what a gem - 4th visit and has delighted us each time. Food is exceptional, service is quick but not rushed and the staff are really friendly. Look forward to our next visit. Highly recommend!

I have visted Sagar restaurant in Tottenham Court thrice, and I am glad that it has now become my rendezvous. One should try its Rava and Masala Dosas: they are remarkably delectable. And, if one is looking for a sumptuous and satisfying meal, I should, then, recommend Sagar's South Indian meal: the daal, rasam and side dishes are preternaturally delicious. All credits to the chef!Furthermore, the place is very clean; the staffers are gregarious and amiable.

We visited Sagar on Friday evening. The restaurant was busy, but with a lovely atmosphere and we had a warm, friendly welcome. We ordered a Thali each and every dish was delicious - a great choice to sample a range of dishes. Excellent service and another delicious meal. We have visited the restaurant a number of times now and it has become our favourite place to eat when we have a day out in London. Thank you for another lovely meal.

visited Embassy of India to meet a friend & saw this restaurant at a small by lane . Its small with compact seating . Had spicy Rasam, bajji , pulav ,Raitha & payasam . Enjoyed south Indian cuisine at London. Good service by every staff .

My mum and I came here for my 21st and ordered thalis (pictured). Farouk was a fab waiter and has a wonderful personality. I really recommend coming here for a pre theatre meal as it was so quick with exceptional service. Thank u :-)

9 of us had a meal here, and a larger party can sometimes make everything slow, complicated and less enjoyable, however this was all good, the food was delicious, lots of variety and well described in the menu, and the staff were friendly and efficient. Highly recommended.

fortunately not only vegan. Looks somewhat cheap from the outside (diner furniture) but it's clean and nicer inside - still, neither especially comfortable nor stylish. The staff is primarily friendly to fellow Indians, otherwise okay. The food is good (yoghurt was outstanding), prices are appropriate but for sure not cheap, table settings continue the somewhat spartan loveless simplicity. The "Indian pizza" is more like a Kartoffelpuffer. I really mind if restaurants don't have set lunches; that feels a bit like a ripoff. Anyway, altogether a good lunch experience.

With so many restaurants to choose from in London we were so pleased to have chosen Sagar Covent Garden.

Having lived and traveled in India I'm kinda picky when it comes to food, especially when so many north Indian restaurants profess to do south Indian and fail miserably. I've been here a few times and although I have no complaints about the food, i just wish they would open earlier and maybe broaden the menu, I like my upma and vada in the morning.

Das hatte nichts mit indisch zu tun. Verkocht und mit Sicherheit schon alles fertig gewesen so schnell wie das Essen gekommen ist. Immerhin war der Reis und das Mineralwasser ok.

He estado pocas veces aquí como vegetariano. Quería probar una comida vegana que no puedo preparar en casa y pedí una hamburguesa vegana. Me encantó. Las bebidas eran exóticas y muy diferentes de las de los restaurantes de la calle principal. Volveremos seguro.

It is often difficult to find good vegan options late at night, especially while traveling. Sagar is a Covent Garden gem & a short walk from my hotel. Usually I don't eat three courses when I'm on my own but I had just arrived late at night in London and they had so many options...The samosas and aloo gobi were fantastic. They also have several vegan dessert options. I went for ice cream. Also wonderful service.

Definitivamente regresaría, ¡hay muchas más cosas en el menú que me gustaría probar! Además, el personal fue amable y servicial, por lo que es una victoria ganadora.

Food and service are excellent. However unfortunately experience marred by cold draughts from a broken door - if you sit downstairs it feels like sitting outside. Won’t go back unless we can sit upstairs which is warmer.

Looking for a nice place to eat after a long day. And because I both like Indian food and like to eat vegetarian, I dropped in at Sagar. I had to wait a bit for a seat, but once seated it was a great experience. Nice card, good curries and good service. All I could wish for!

Decent food. The chutney that they served was not fresh. Service was slow, quite slow. It appears that they don’t care. Good location and Indian vegetarian are bound to attract people.

What can I say , the food, atmosphere and staff all amazing. A great choice for vegans the food was out of this world and worth every penny. We will definitely be coming here next time we’re in London. Don’t take my word for it , try it yourselves

Best Indian food in my life. All items including the wine were either vegetarian and or vegan. The rice paper was outstanding, the cashew paneer was to die for. Small, quaint and just lovely

My wife, 18 month old and I went here whilst visiting the area, which is full of not very baby-friendly restaurants. I ordered a nimbu paani, rava masa dhosa and masala chai which were all excellent. My wife enjoyed her Papdi chaat and mango lassi, and the baby loved his tomato and onion uthapaam. A very attentive service willing to accommodate baby taste buds too! The restaurant is very baby-friendly too.

As always, excellent food and service. I had the Rajdani Thali, and we were waited on by Isaac. I don't remember what my girlfriend had - she devoured it before I could try it!

We popped in here for a spot of vegan Indian lunch and were not disappointed! We had the Onion Bhajia to start, and the Veggie Korma and the Bhindi for mains. All the food was delicious and very well prepared. It's not super easy to make a good Korma vegan, but this is one of the best I've ever had. The Bhindi was also delicious and good and spicy too! The service was quick, and they were very helpful to us as we were traveling through with a little bit of luggage. Overall, it was solid value for money for a London establishment, and I'd definitely go again!

Sagar is tucked behind the busy Covent Garden market, just minutes from the hustle and bustle. It's a gem of a place for decent tasting Indian food. The menu comprises of the usual Indian staples however it's the taste that is worthy of return visits. I had Chana Bhatura and what wonderful flavouring! Subtle and delicious. The Bhatura was HUGE, but incredibly light and surprisingly, not oily. Sagar offers incredible value for money and is perfect for solo meals or meeting up with friends.

Our favourite Indian restaurant in London! We have been here a number of times now and the food is always superb and yesterday was no exception. The menu has so much choice and we have never had a disappointing meal. The service is great - friendly and quick, even though it was a Saturday night. We will definitely be back.

A great place for the people who relish Indian vegetarian food. A great variety of Indian cuisines are available. The food is affordable and is extremely authentic.

My husband arranged a lunch here for my special birthday and we had the upstairs of the restaurant to ourselves for the afternoon. I'd like to thank Soufiyan and his staff for looking after us extremely well. Only three of us are vegetarians, but everyone said they loved the food and we had a very enjoyable afternoon.

Convenient location near Covent Garden. Looked forward to imaginative non meat menu. Unfortunately this was not forthcoming. Unmemorable experience.

In London and like to try different authentic Indian restaurants. We each had the Rajdani Thalis. Substantial and good value at £18.15 each.

the service may be ok. I ordered dosa. (I am a South Indian). The potato in the masala dosa had gone bad. They later suggested that I try something else, which I did. Later they added 12% service charge. I thought it was presumptuous, given that the dosa had gone bad. I do not recommend this place at all.

We always have difficulty finding places to eat as my Father is vegan and also can not have nuts. We stumbled across this place when our usual eating place of choice had changed their menu and filled it with nuts. Boy, are we glad they did, because this place was brilliant! We were seated and served quickly and presented with a menu of a brilliant choice of vegan dishes which were brought to us very quickly (speed is always important when you've been wandering around London and are starving!). The food tasted delicious and we were both left feeling very full and very satisfied. I do agree with some of the reviews on here that someone needs to tell the waiters that a smile costs nothing, but they were still very polite and attentive. Would highly recommend this place to any vegans looking for a meal in London.

We enjoyed our dinner at this vegetarian and vegan establishment. The menu had a great variety of options that it made it too hard to pick something. In the end we ordered way too much food. Being a restaurant in Covent Garden, the prices are a little higher than what your normal Indian fare would cost. But expect good quality food, for the higher price paid. Service was good. It's about what you would expect for a restaurant in a high tourist traffic area.

The service and place was clean - very importnat to me. But the food was not authentic and substandard to so many other South Indian resteraunts. The Idli Sambar and large veg pieces that was designed to minimise the amount of garvy provided. If you are not India - the experience will be unusual but as an Indai I am ashamed of the qulaity of food provided. Try Savan Bhavan for taste and value

We ate here before the theatre and the prices were incredibly reasonable for the location and the choices of food for a vegetarian were simply fantastic. My meat eating companion was also super impressed and didn’t miss the meat! The stand outs for us were the saag paneer and the dhal but of course the stars of this place are the dosa. Delicious! Tsak was a really helpful attentive waiter and answered all our questions about GF food. Many thanks.

I always visit this restaurant when I am in London It offers a wide range of vegan and veg curries and dosas. The staff are always professional and very pleasant if you take the time to be nice to them. The food is delicious and I would recommend this restaurant It is also very well priced

Wow! Had the pleasure of eating in this wonderful restaurant today! The food was exquisite, the restaurant and staff were a different level! Read through the reviews before we attended, go with the positive response & ignore any negativity. From the starters through to the main, a totally different experience. This is a good Indian restaurant in a central location although the service could have been better with the staff having better service skills. The food is very good and a varied unusual Indian menu.

My family and I were in London for theatre and after hearing such high reviews about sagar we thought we would give it a try. This was our first time trying vegan/vegetaeian Asian cuisine and the staff and we couldn't fault the waiters at all. They were so helpful in recommending dishes and food we had never heard of but were out of this world. Will Definetly be our go to everytime were in town for the theatre!

i was in the restaurant on 04/10/19 at 22.30 and someone working there took a guy from the back (kitchen)? outside, punched him in the face, knocked him down in the street then punched him repeated in the face when he was on the floor!!! some guys from the bar next door stopped it. i am so shocked. i am calling the police. disgusting!!! sick people!!!

We've now been twice, have gone earlier (5:30 ish) before a show when it's less crowded. While the service may well be slower when it's full, it'll be the same food. Very tasty, the way it's spiced gives a real depth of flavour.

We were delighted with the service and food here. They have focused on cooking a few things well; Idlis, paratha and biryani. All of which were delicious. I would recommend this restaurant, but not if you are in a hurry (pre-theatre).

Had a lovely meal here with the husband (poor thing isn't even a vegetarian but he does without for me on occasion). Wonderful food, well cooked and I left full and satisfied.

There is now a great many choices for vegan eaters : Indian cuisine is not an exception and quite older than all other tofu-based foods that we currently find. Sagar is thus the natural choice to eat well, very well indeed ... but careful with your budget as meals are pricey.

We were hankering for South Indian food after 7 days in London.Checked for Indian resturant around Covent garden and found this.Took taxi and same to the where this is some sort of repair going on in streets.Anyway ordered some non acholic drinks.Could see from menu that prices are steep but thought taste would make for high rates.Alas,it did not meet the standards.There was no tomato chutney with dosas, the sambhar was in tiny bowl (which other good resturants use to serve chutney)You can order sambar but need to pay.The three stars are for dessert of filter coffee,carrot halwa,kulfi which were good(but not the gulab jamun).The service was also off handish with waiters resentfully responding to the questions about items on menu.

Booked in advance for 12.15. The upstairs room( recommended by some reviewers) was not available as booked for a group. Downstairs was OK, a bit basic as an environment, and quite quickly filled up mainly with Asian clientele so I would advise booking or going early - it opens at 12.00 or so. Service was good. There were 2 of us. For starters we had Idli which was OK, the sauce was rather thin, but I have had better in Tooting; and Pani Puri ( crisp empty balls that come with a sauce to fill them with), which I would not recommend. For mains I had Masala Dosa and my wife had Mysore Masala Dosa. The portion were adequate and they were pleasant enough but again we have both had better elsewhere. I had a small beer and the bill came to about £36.00 which is cheap for lunch in Covent Garden. Sagar is Ok if it fits with your plans but from my point of view not worth a journey otherwise. My daughter recently went with friends to the Sagar in Percy Street and had curries and considered it excellent.

Ich wusste ja, dass das indische Essen in London gut sein soll, aber darauf war ich nicht vorbereitet. Mein Essen war so lecker, dass nicht nur ich, sondern auch meine Freunde, die dabei waren, völlig ausgerastet sind. Zudem war der Service hervorragend und absolut zuvorkommend. Wenn ich das nächste mal in London bin, werde ich auf jeden Fall nochmal hier essen!

We actually came to London from the US on vacation. After trying a few popular Indian restaurants in London, we had pretty much given up on finding something healthy and satisfying. We came to the Covent garden location and were pleasantly surprised by how good the food was at Sagar. The quality and freshness of the ingredients became evident from the very first dish we tried. The dosa was just the right texture with crispiness and softness at the same time. The sambar and coconut chutney were very tasty as well. We ordered the chole Batura too and it was very tasty, but not extremely oily like you would normally get at other restaurants. All the food tasted fresh and wasn’t heavy or oily at all. Along with the food, the service was also really good. The owner himself, Isak, was personally attending our table and making sure our food arrived quickly as per our expectations.

We had a nice meal at Sagar. We enjoyed the food and were pleased with the vegan options. I do with that there was vegan chai options, though. Isak did a good job at managing several tables.

Lovely time, really enjoyed myself and was taken care of. Highly recommended, especially the puri!!! Credit to Shek!!

After walking in Covent garden we spotted this vegetarian restaurant near underground station.

Cenamos una noche y decidimos repetir porque teníamos la sensación de haber pedido ma´l, a pesar de que nuestra cena fue deliciosa. Nos recomendaron el thalis (un plato que en realidad es una bandeja con pequeños recipientes con salsas, curris... y arroz acompañado de pan) pero pedimos un par de arroces y un par de curris (deliciosos). Volvimos un par de días después a comer Thalis. Las dos veces fue una experiencia para nuestro paladar. El servicio muy atento y amable. El local es pequeño pero cómodoy, aunque hacía un terrible calor en la calle, la temperatura era perfecta en el interior. Muy recomendable.

My partner and I visited Sagar vegetarian restaurant on Saturday 20th July for dinner around 21h30. We were seated promptly and served our drinks and starters fairly quickly. The issue we had with the place was that our mains never arrived after about 45 minutes to an hour. We watched as the other tables were served their food and seen to many times without our table being attended to once. We then enquired about our food and was lied to that our food was coming soon. We then said we didn't want the food and was told that the waiter had forgotten about our order and not put through the system. We were also told that if we had put the order through with another waiter it would not have been forgotten. A huge laugh followed this comment. The waiter who forgot our order then came to our table and made poor excuses that he saw us having our drinks and wanted to wait till we finished our drink before he came over to our table etc. We asked for the bill to pay for our starters and drinks and had a service charge automatically added to our bill which we asked to be removed as frankly we did not have any service at this place. This was our first time at the restaurant and we will not be returning again.

Vine aquí ayer con dos amigos. Entre nosotros, pedimos una gama de entrantes: sev poori, donuts fritos y ocioso. El sev poori era absolutamente increíble (lo teníamos sin yogur) pero las rosquillas y ociosamente no eran nada especial, incluidas las salsas acompañantes que me parecieron muy sosas.

in terms of the restaurant decor, it's quite unassuming really and a bit bland. The service was also perfectly fine but again nothing spectacular. but I think this is the sort of place where you go for the food above all else- it was all absolutely delicious and served in large portions- possibly even too large! not too pricey either considering it's all veggie. would definitely recommend for a relaxed informal meal somewhere central.

¡Muy recomendable para amigos veganos, vegetarianos e incluso no veganos! ¡Mi madre carnívora amó el mysore dosa! Mi Gobi Aloo fue el mejor de todos los tiempos y he tenido muchos en todo el mundo, ¡incluida la India! In a boring location of North Harrow, has a great South Indian food. The Spring Dosa Special keeps the calories under control ask, with extra chilly if need. Cup Chai or the best coffee in Harrow Mysore Coffee. See you next month.

We ordered the most staple South Indian dishes- idli, Rava dosa, plain dosa. The dosa”s were bad in taste- rava dosa had strange taste so also chutney. Sambhar had only onions. Such a disappointment. I would definitely not recommend this place for the above items.

Have dinned at Sagar twice with friends. Very helpful staff in arranging reservations. Food was presented nicely and was delicious. We tried their masala dosa which were tasty and looked amazing on the plate. Our friends were equally delighted and made notes to visit it again.

we enjoyed an amazing walk across Leicster square....piccadilly circus....Trafalgar square and were a bit tired and yearning for a nice decent veggie bite....and we walked up from trafalgar square towards covent garden about 8 to 10 minutes and enjoyed a yummy veggie bite in Sagar.....people please do not miss ordering CHILLY PANEER .....it was divine !
