Sagar Restaurant in Bolton

We have dined at Sagar for probably 25 years. We don’t eat out often but it’s one of the places we choose when we do. I could not believe how much the food had deteriorated since our last visit. Bright RED chicken tikka masala, just like you would get from the worse take away you can imagine! Not only was it red, it tasted like there was sugar in the sauce. Never eating there again! I recommend Spice Valley in Horwich as an alternative

Been about 7 times - usually okay and decent service. Tonight, the service was slow and actually poor. Starter was very slow and staff kept saying a couple of minutes - came after 40 minutes. When it came half of it was cold and inedible and we told the waietr who said he would tell the manager. Main okay. Asked for the bill and ordered a taxi - waited and waited, asked for the bill - taxi arrived - went to the counter - no bill - took ages so they wrote a new bill. I mentioned the cold, inedible starter but they just said sorry but you pay. Very disappointing and left a bitter taste in the mouth. Not going back. Bindi in Aspull or Ajmeer in Standish for me

We were rushed through our meal, the chicken was dry, the rice wasn't cooked properly, my sisters chicken was unedible it tasted 'off'. The meal tasted like it had been made days before. My sister ordered chicken tikka masala, which came with a vegetable sauce which tasted awful. The meal my sister got was not a meal, it was a starter (which they passed off for a meal) I knew this by observing other peoples meals which looked 10x better than ours. My mums meal was barely warm. No one asked if our meal was ok. When confronting the staff they said 'we all have different tastes'. Awful customer service. I ordered a sauvignon blanc wine it tasted worse than house wine. Its the worst restaurant I have been to. I am sorry I paid £60 we should of just walked out.

Just before Christmas there was a 80’s night, I’m not to old but it was a little loud - would definitely try another of the tributes nights though. Set menu, which although we did explain there was a vegetarian we did not receive any additional veg dish, luckily they will also eat fish. It was good to experience dishes you would not usually choose. They also came around to offer option for seconds which was a surprise. Food is always excellent here, we tend to order a takeaway when not going out.

Went on the 29th March as we arrived sat in the waiting part had a round of drinks and ordered went to our table the meal was great I personally had prawn purée chicken rogan josh boiled rice which was fantastic everyone else enjoyed theirs aswell

Visited tonight with work colleagues. Exterior to Interior is a complete contrast with bright and airy interior with plenty of room. The waiting area is where you order your food and then you get moved onto your table. Personally, I do prefer to be sat at the table and then order. Menu was enormous so had little chance to investigate fully do landed on 4 starters rather than the norm as I wanted to try to as many things on the menu I could. Everything I had was pleasant and the service was fine and probably a 3.5 overall; but just did not get that WOW moment. My 5 other companions really enjoyed their meals too. I will definitely return to investigate this menu further.

The ambiance and new decoration looks really nice, fabulous service has always they couldn’t do enough. The food was lovely, I would definitely go back.

Gave this a try Saturday night. What a brilliant idea. Fantastic refurb since we last visited. Very impressive. Done a brilliant job. Food just as good as we remember. Never had a bad meal here. Service very good saying it was extremely busy. Would certainly recommend for good Indian food.

First revisit in about 25 years and realised we have missed a lot. A party of seven of us and we all had excellent meals service was first class we never felt rushed. We went on a Saturday night and the restaurant was very busy so would recommend booking. It won’t be 25 years until we go back!

There were ten of us here on NYE for an early doors meal and we all enjoyed everything we had. We never felt rushed even though we had to vacate the table by a certain time so they could get ready for the NYE special bookings. Staff were very friendly and efficient and everything we ordered was correctly delivered to table. I would definitely come here again . My food was lovely!! Thank you Sagar!

We’ve been going to Indian restaurants on Christmas Eve for a number of years now but sadly have been very disappointed with desperately poor service,long wait to be seated ,cold food, incorrect billing etc. This is the first time we’ve tried Sagars and what a refreshing change everything was spot on ,good service excellent food and beveridge at a reasonable price. Will definitely be going back .

This is our go to Indian whenever we decide we want some good tasting food, always very attentive and the food is perfect every time.

We've been visiting Sagar for a number of years. They recently had an extensive refurbishment and a new menu, and we've yet to be at all disappointed with this place. We've had some of the best curries ever here. We usually skip starters etc. and go straight to main course. We ordered a Chicken Murgh Tanger and a King Prawn Tikka Rashun Palok (spinach & garlic), plus a spinach and garlic rice and garlic naan. As always, food was superbly and perfectly cooked, with the right amount of requested spiciness. King prawns here are huge, and although you only get 4 in a dish, it's the equivalent or more of chicken. Rice was also excellent, as was the garlic naan. For drinks, we ordered the Jules Feraud house champagne which came perfectly chilled. In all, a great evening and service was also everything you should expect with attentive but not obtrusive service.
