Saffron and her team catered for my mother's wake in January of this year. Nothing was too much trouble: The food was of a high standard, her team of servers were polite, respectful and courteous and when she said "Just leave everything to me", she really meant it. Everything was cleared away quietly and seamlessly. Thank you to all of you from me and my family for your exceptional catering and service.

Went with friends last night for the cheese fondue evening. Loved this place! Our waiter was great and cracked jokes all night and the live music was very very good. My friends had the cheese fondue and loved it and I had the steak which was perfectly cooked. Atmosphere is so cosy and feels like a log cabin in the north. Will be coming back here!

I went for breakfast here a couple of months ago and I was VERY impressed. Everything was so fresh and delicious, very good service and staff were approachable. The setting itself is so charming and cosy. Would definitely recommend to go!

Lovely food served with a smile. Nothing was too much trouble, even to the extent of making something not on the menu. Atmosphere has 4 because it was cold.

What a fabulous find this place was. Nicest staff. Great food and atmosphere. Had the best fun at one of their evening pop ups. And lunch in the courtyard is such a treat. I’d highly recommend but please don’t go too often as I’d like to keep it all for myself!!!

I have frequented Saffron's Courtyard Cafe a few times recently and the first thing that strikes you is the ambience. It's like coming across a delightful hidden gem. The food is heavenly and you can feel the love that has gone in to creating the menu. Saffron and her staff are always friendly and helpful and if you fancy a cozy Sunday morning brunch or mid week cocktail, this is the place to come and relax, rain or shine 😊

Love this place! We often frequent this cafe for coffee and cake during the day but it’s even better on Friday nights with live music 👌🏼 Lovely intimate restaurant, fantastic service and great food. Highly recommend the Baked Camembert and Sea bass. Saffron and the team are amazing. #supportlocal

We thoroughly enjoyed another delicious brunch of steak sandwiches, carrot cake, and hot and cold drinks, served by the very friendly and efficient Lydia. The new owner Saffron is really working her magic here. My wife also bought yet another luxury leather handbag in the sale from the adjacent Osprey outlet shop.

I cannot recommend this Cafe/Restaurant enough. It is a hidden gem in the most beautiful little courtyard. Once I discovered it, it has become a firm favourite brunch spot of mine. The food is top quality and the staff are all so friendly especially Saffron, she always goes out of her way to make sure everything is perfect and gives such a warm, personal service. It helps that it's surrounded by a few gorgeous shops for a bit of retail therapy 🤩, I always come away feeling great. See you again soon x

We had a lovely sunny evening here yesterday. It’s a beautiful little place, tucked away in the countryside. Atmosphere was amazing, they had a lovely girl singing and playing guitar, staff were warm and welcoming and service was on point and food and wine lovely. Cannot recommend enough 🙌🏼

The ambience, service, and food — everything was amazing. We visited Megan’s in WGC to celebrate my husband’s birthday, and everything looked so perfect. Syam from the service team ensured we had a lovely time and went above and beyond to make the experience special. The food was part of a shared platter, but on our request, it was served separately because we wanted to enjoy the filo pastry individually. This thoughtful accommodation made our meal even better. Highly recommend!

As a Coeliac this place is amazing! It’s a bit of journey for us but worth it every time to have the freedom to eat completely safely. Nothing is too much trouble.

As a local resident and keen cyclist, I’m always on the lookout for new spots to stop for coffee or breakfast during my rides. I stumbled upon Essendon Golf Club by chance while driving past one day—it looked inviting, so I made a mental note to include it in my next cycling route. To be sure it was a cyclist-friendly venue, I returned by car a few days later and asked a staff member if bikes were welcome. The young man I spoke to was polite, welcoming, and informed me that breakfast starts at 7 a.m., and yes, cyclists are absolutely welcome. Fast forward to my next ride—20 miles in, I arrived at the golf course. As it was my first visit, I wasn’t sure about the proper way to access the garden area with my bike. I walked it through the golf shop towards the outdoor seating area, but as I reached the doors, the manager approached me and said I couldn’t take my bike that way and needed to go around. I apologised, explaining it was my first time there and I didn’t know the correct route. Rather than simply guiding me, he repeated—quite firmly—that I shouldn’t have come that way. I then asked if I could exit through a nearby door instead of retracing my steps. He sighed, said “Hold on,” and asked another staff member to open the door. When my friend arrived a couple of minutes later (he came in separately), he was met with the same abrupt and dismissive tone. Neither of us felt particularly welcomed at that point. "Not welcoming to cyclists, and the staff seemed more focused on enforcing authority than offering hospitality. After making our way to the garden, we ordered breakfast. While waiting for our food, the manager returned and sat down at our table. He began with a rather unexpected “just so you’re aware” and explained that when golfers see cyclists, they become wary due to “snatch-and-grab” thefts happening at other local golf courses. He said he’s part of a WhatsApp group where such incidents are shared, though he admitted nothing of the sort had happened at Essendon. He claimed that the thieves dress in full cycling kit, enter golf shops, grab polo shirts (apparently worth around £60), and cycle off. I pointed out that the gear I was wearing costs considerably more—£120 jersey, £225 bib shorts, £235 shoes, and a £12,995 bike. He nodded and said, “They look just like us.” The implication being that anyone—even properly dressed cyclists—could be a potential thief. He ended the conversation by telling us we were welcome anytime but should “just be aware.” I’ve never visited a venue and felt so unwelcome. The manager’s tone and approach were off-putting and completely unnecessary. If we hadn’t already paid for the food, I would’ve left. To sense-check his story, I later spent about 30 minutes searching online and couldn’t find any mention of these alleged thefts. I then rang a few friends who regularly play golf at various clubs in the area, and none had heard anything like this either. And let’s be honest—if someone in full cycling kit and cleats can sprint into a shop, steal shirts, and ride off one-handed… they probably belong in the Tour de France. The whole thing sounded made up, or at the very least, exaggerated. The setting is lovely, the food was decent—but the experience left a bad taste. Based on how we were treated,

We love the pub , the staff are great BUT the menu is small so ,as we ended up doing, ordered something that we really didn't want save for going somewhere else which, on Saturday night not on. Food was OK but even though asked for completely plain burger came with gherkins a pet hate of my wife. Happy to go again but not for food!
