Saffron Club in Lewisham

Had been recommended Saffron and as seafood lovers booked for our anniversary. The Nepalese menu offers many dishes you don’t get elsewhere especially fish and the tastes are delicious. A small restaurant with very attentive staff, tasty and different and will definitely be returning

Found this restaurant on foot looking for a takeaway, people were very friendly. Served a pint whilst waiting for food. The food was absolutely top notch fresh garlic, very tender flavourful lamb. Lamb samosas for starters packed with meat. Lamb sag paneer dansak with garlic rice, garlic pash coriander naan. Well done guys, very happy customers

Double the price of most Indian restaurants - inexperienced staff - Nepalese manger ... more of a sausage factory - at twice the price of regular Indian restaurants

We were staying at a local hotel due to an emergency at home. So after a long day, we were ravenous. We found this little gem locally and decided to give it a go, and it was such a pleasure! It looked rather busy from the outside, however staff quickly seated us and provided us with popadoms and drinks rather promptly (we visited on a Monday at 8pm). The food was fantastic! Portion size was perfect, and everything tasted fresh and delicious! It was traditional Indian cuisine but without the tonnes of oil cheap takeaways usually send, and with great meat:sauce ratio. The service was fantastic, the gents were lovely and really made an effort with our fussy 4 year old. She managed more than her usual 4 mouthfuls and they kindly gave her a chocolate for the achievement. Our only complaint would be the drinks were quite pricey for what they were, £2.95 for a can of Coke, but other than that we couldn’t fault it. If we ever find ourselves in the local area again, we will happily return!

I had a very disappointing meal here tonight - the Meat Thali was bland, tasteless and the chicken and lamb curries tasted exactly the same! the Raita was thick and cloying and the Dhal, no better than a poor street takeaway, the difference being that I was charged £14.95! Avoid this place - there so many better places to enjoy Indian food cooked with taste, imagination and flair....

One of the best curries I have ever eaten! So much better than the usual standard menus that a lot of restaurants have. Can’t go wrong with Nepali food in my experience mind. We only had vegi - so can’t comment on the meat choices - but the Thali was amazing. We had ours spiced up. Dumplings for starters shouldn’t be missed either. Fab!

What a pleasure to enjoy the food at Saffron Club. Dishes made from scratch which really shows with the flavours. Our favourite curry house in Blackheath (Taste of Raj a close second). P.S under new mgmt in 2020 so please disregard earlier poor reviews.

Nice to see back to good quality food. Probably one of the best in the area. Can’t fault the food or service. 4 stars purely because it’s got a tad bit expensive, starting to spend £75 -£95 for a curry for 2 with a few beers and starters however you can’t knock the taste and favours.

Dropped by on friday eve, the staff escorted us to a table. The restaurant took our details as part of the test and trace scheme; all staff were in a masks and the tables were at distance. We decided to go veg and ordered - dal makhani, chana masala and aubergine bharta along with garlic naan. I must say the food was delicious, fresh and piping hot - a delight along with a bottle of kingfisher beer. The naan was one of the best I've ever had - absolutely soft and melt in the mouth! Would definitely recommend.

My boyfriend and I visited last night for the first time and it was amazing! The staff were so friendly and went above and beyond. My boyfriend asked for the spiciest curry they had and they made us something off money to cater to his request! He said it was the best curry he’d ever had. The rest of the food was amazing too and we will definitely be back! Thank you so much for having us Saffron Club.

The food is OK. Not the best but equally not the worse. Service is Good. Parking is tricky although available near the station.

Went there last Friday and had a really tasty meal. Ordered the chef's thalia..hmmmmm...yummilicious. most certainly recommended although I would have like a vegetable dish to replace 1 of the 2 meat dishes. The service was a slow despite the fact when we first arrived, there were ONLY 2 other tables of 2 b4 us. Was difficult to get the attention of the wait staff to take our orders or to get our bill...it looks like there more interested in chatting to each other near the bar area. If it wasn't for that, I would have given them more star rating. Shame the fronted house let down the chef n kitchen staff really really badly. Will go there again for the dishes but if the service is still the same, we will certainly throw in the towel on this restaurant!

Have always considered this the best curry house ever in Blackheath but the new menu/ownership has seen the quality of food fall dramatically. Each curry was watery and incredibly similar in taste, bearing in mind 6 people each ate different dishes. Shame.

Very impressed with the biriyani ingredients. Glad to see lower quantities of oil than in other establishments. The Goan fish curry was a marvel of subtle flavours and perfectly cooked seafood and fish. Highly recommended.

Where do I start, well I loved this place so much I thought it would be a great place to meet with my son and he’s new girlfriend, well how wrong am I. Bad service from the start as the waiter was actually going to remove someone from a table we had asked for. So now seated in a table we didn’t ask for we were treated with a scene straight out of faulty towers, plates of food smashing all over the floor dropped menus I was just waiting for John Cleese to pop out. Now the food, my wife loved the Punjabi fish and chips they had on the old menu. We asked if they still done this dish and was told they could still do it, what came out was a trout with McDonald’s french fries it was then I asked if the ownership had changed which the waiter just about let us know that I realised its not the same restaurant. My curry was over cooked chicken in very bad sauce I had to remind the waiter that I had ordered onion bhaji the whole meal was a farce. I can honestly say I will never come back again which is a great shame because this was my go to Friday night curry

A good curry house in Blackheath village, I would describe it as a nepalese restaurant. And these dishes are more interesting than the traditional indian curries. My only complaint is the silly small portions of rice.

Mi marido y yo vamos aquí regularmente y nunca me decepcionó. Fuimos el fin de semana pasado y me encantó ver que ahora tienen un menú vegano. Encantado de verlos ponerse al día con esto, hace que sea mucho más fácil que tener que mirar todo el menú y preguntar qué puedes o no puedes tener.

Reservamos esto para una comida familiar (cuatro de nosotros) y no nos decepcionó, la comida era increíble, aunque el servicio era un poco lento, pero estaban muy ocupados. Pedimos entrantes (¡el plato de barbacoa para 2 es genial! ¡Especialmente el salmón!) Y además todos teníamos un plato principal, más lados y arroces.

Visité el Club Saffron para una comida de cumpleaños de amigos el 21 de diciembre de 2018. Pedimos la comida de antemano ya que había 19 en nuestro grupo y toda la noche fue fantástica de principio a fin.

Llegamos en un día de semana muy tranquilo, de hecho, solo otra mesa estaba ocupada, pero hemos estado aquí a menudo y nos hicieron sentir bienvenidos. La comida ha mejorado mucho aquí en las últimas semanas, el servicio es excelente y la música de fondo es buena. En esta visita, todo era bueno y la comida era excelente, pero era una pena que el anfitrión de la mina, que estaba parado a 10 metros de distancia y que el bar tuviera un frío tan pesado. I avoided for a few years after being a regular as seemed to have gone done hill. Retried early last year and pleased to see back to its old high standards. Some nice different dishes on the menu and always good quality.

Visited this restaurant on a Sunday evening. Excellent food and quality was excellent. Very worth while for a visit when in the area. The Chicken Mackani is amazing. Good friendly service. Recommend.

Hace algún tiempo, este restaurante ha sido la cima de nuestra lista para nuestro local India/Comidas de Nepal. Nunca nos ha decepcionado en ninguna manera. Además de que, este restaurante ofrece lo que he llegado a considerar como mi plato top hit número uno de la India de todos los tiempos: "Murgi Ghar Ki", descrito en el menú como una casa de estilo tradicional, pollo al curry punjabi. Realmente es fabuloso, y cada vez éxitos todos los gustos. Yo lo recomiendo encarecidamente, ya que no se puede perder. Mi esposa y mi hijo disfrutó de su plato de cada "Pollo Gorkhali". También estuvimos más que encantados de ver en el menú de postres Gulam Jamun del restaurante. Consejo, incluso para las cenas: reserve con antelación.

He estado en azafrán un par de veces y es simplemente increíble, sin duda mi favorito Restaurante indio tan lejos en el sudeste. El servicio es eficiente y el personal es amable y acogedor.

Saffron Club is tasty, it's licensed and they deliver in those reusable boxes. Though our food arrived early, that was after being told it would be 75 mins. (I've started ordering from JE pre-6pm just to get dinner at dinnertime.) It was a little bit pricey for the starters and rice— guess that's the Greenwich tax.

i like safrron club but the portions are way too small.. forcing you to order more and thus it isn't good value for money ...

Love Saffron. So glad its 10 mins away from me. Most Indian takeaways and restaurants are not really authentic. Food never tastes like I would remember back home. Thankfully Saffron has opened up and I have been ordering takeaways and popping in when I can for years. So I thought I should let other know of this little gem.

Estuvimos mirando el menú y nos recordó que necesitamos orden rápidamente, me preguntó a qué hora cerraban y me dijeron 12 de medianoche. Le pregunté por qué estaban pidiendo a prisa y me dijeron como estaba lleno, Yo busqué y incluyendo nuestra mesa había tres mesas ocupadas, yo digo que no hay mucha gente aquí y él dijo, pero ha sido ocupado todo el día. La forma de pedirlo a la orden no era muy educado, Generalmente oigo, qué quieres? Etc, el camarero dijo qué quiere comer?

Saffron es un habitual para mí. Soy bastante quisquilloso con la comida india como yo a menudo creo que puede hacer una mejor curry mysel (! Pero saffron es delicioso) especialmente la especialidades como el cordero ghorkali nepalí.

Aunque el camarero había avisado que tienes tres bolas, pero el tamaño de las bolas eran ridículamente pequeñas, de hecho, no era más grande que el tamaño de una pelota de ping pong fue que ridículo! La cuenta fue de casi 70 libras por dos personas que no pensé que merecía la pena, teniendo en cuenta el servicio que tenía y la falta de presentación de los platos. Tuvimos una comida para llevar Azafrán última noche, ya que en realidad no tienen tiempo para sentarse en una mesa, aunque hemos estado allí en el pasado. Nos dieron un tiempo de 30 minutos para la comida lista y era. No soy un amante de curry así que tuve el cordero korma. Estaba delicioso, tierno cordero y una deliciosa salsa cremosa. Pero de hecho nos overordered no dejan mucho. La comida estaba bien caliente y bien preparado. Puede incluso tentado a probar algo un poco punzantes la próxima vez.

Delivery time given was just over an hour however it was actually over an hour and half with no call to advise or apologise. Food was cold and two elements, momos and roti were inedible.

Ordered at 750 pm delivery time initially 850pm changed to 9pm then finally arrived at 950 pm taking 2 hrs despite being reassured it was on way - "in 2 x minutes", driver even called to verify address and then gave road closure (you wouldn't go anywhere near it!) as excuse when he arrived 1/2 hr later ! Food was lukewarm and average. Also Free wine offer ignored and bottle of beer sent.

Saffron Club is my favourite place to eat in Blackheath. The staff are friendly and attentive without being over the top. The food is perfectly cooked and the portion sizes are spot on! Yes okay, maybe you do have to wait a while for your mains... At least I know theyre being cooked fresh! I'd be worries if it turned up in 5 minutes!Very reasonably priced for what you get. Their take away/delivery service is amazing too! No lacking in quality because youre not eating in!

Superb food choice for Vegetarians. We had a great evening at this restaurant with friends.Good atmosphere and attentive service.Lovely food - great all round choice.We will be going back.

It always varies depending on which chef is working but we've never had a bad meal. Last night, though, everything had some kind of large seed (I'm assuming cardemon) in it. Although it adds lovely flavour, it ruins your meal when you're munching on one every two minutes! We've never ezperienced this before and it did spoil our dinner a little.

Bit disappointed overall. Ordered the mixed veg platter starter, but got 4 soggy bhajis. Curry was ok, but nothing special. Saag aloo was overcooked spinach and undercooked potato. Have had much better in the area, but won't be coming back here, sadly.

Great food fantastic waiting staff, and a lovely lady who runs the floor . Always treated special, even getting a takeaway you are always treated so well. Fantastic food, is a must if you are in the area. Highly recommend a visit.

We had a great meal here, brilliant service. The waiter we had was 1st class and very informative and helpful, about the menu, the meal was fantastic, I had the special which was delish. I would definitely go back there again when I'm in the area.

Did a local pickup and was ready on time. Great food. Been going here for years.

Poor customer service. We ordered takeaway from Saffron and was told it would be delivered in 50 minutes, and 1h15 minutes later it was finally delivered. Then we found part of the order was wrong and phoned them straight back. They said they would send out the correct dishes, 30 minutes later no delivery. By this time I've eaten my dinner, whilst my friend sat here hungry! We phoned again and they said someone would be here soon. It's now over one hour later (two hours 20 minutes since we ordered) and still no food, no refund and not one apology. Saffron I'm very disappointed.

Have eaten at many of the restaurants in Blackheath and finally managed to book a table at this restaurant on a Saturday evening. Pleasant interior and the sevice wasgood. portions of food good and cooked as requested. Wine and beer reasonable priced.So all in all had a pleasant experience at this restaurant. Menu prices slightly higherthan our stamping ground in Bexleyheath but cosidering the area to be expectedWould recommend

I reviewed here back in mid 2015, but had a mediocre experience, so stopped using.I recently ordered just a couple of dishes for takeaway which was really good, like it used to be when I first started to visit.The lamb korma was tender, creamy and mild, but everything was piping hot which was a huge improvement on last time.The delivery is still slow, always at least an hour, even for 1 or two dishes, but it was very tasty. Mushroom pilau was lovely and vibrant and piping hot too.Popadoms again were slightly chewy, some crispy and some chewy.Still good though, but needs to be 5 stars again!

Prawn Biryani was soggy, pilau rice was burnt (although when I rang they did bring me a fresh portion), naan bread was burnt underneath. Chicken korma was edible as was poppadoms.

Used to enjoy the food here years ago before moving. Recently moved back into Blackheath and the welcome back party was catered by these guys. I of course dined there beforehand to check standards had not slipped, it was perfect as ever. Especially the barbecue meat and prawn platter

Food overall was really tasty and the curries were generous portion sizes. The complimentary wine was appreciated. However the sag aloo appeared to be more sag than aloo, and the lamb shank was missing its vegetables and mash. And the 2 hour delivery time was unacceptable.

Have eaten here a few times and had take-always a few times. Nice food and staff are always nice. Really enjoy the Dahl makani with nan bread. Recommend it.

My partner and I lived in Blackheath for a while and have been to this restaurant several times. We decided to return for Valentine's Day dinner having not been for a while. I am happy to say that it remains as wonderful as ever. The food is top quality and the service is excellent. Keep trying different things on the menu, I haven't found anything bad yet! On top of it all, the prices are really reasonable given that it's in the centre of Blackheath. I thoroughly recommend this restaurant. Enjoy!

Ordered takeaway at 6:30pm, delivered at 8:20pm. App stated food was delivered at 7:45pm. Immediately, called up takeaway to be told will be arriving in 10mins. That didn't happen. Food delivered was warm at best. My roti was stale. It felt like it was from last night leftovers. lamb rogan josh and chicken chilli dry main was ok. Overall, standards are lacking and need improving on delivery and trying to keep food warm!

I ordered online a curry from saffron, at around 8pm on a Saturday. During the ordering process the website asked me to pick a time slot. The first available was 21.15-22.00. I did think this was bit late and slightly cheeky , but hey, its Saturday, the day before Valentines... I wrote a message at the end of the booking process to say that delivery as soon as possible would be great. So when there was no curry an hour and fifty minutes later, I called them. They couldn't find my order, and after being passed around they asked if I paid online. Luckily I ticked the pay on delivery option, but apparently this why they didn't process. Saffron's food is usually really good. I visit regularly, but the process of delivery online is very frustrating. I ended up treating my boyfriend to toast for Valentines, and not even with a smile, as I was really annoyed!

Very nice small restaurant but no problem to sit our 7. This time I ordered lamb jalfrezi and it was fantastic. Well prepared meat, tasty and we ate absolutely everything. Also they have great traditional desserts. The only cons were: toilets, spoken English wasn't too good and curry sauce (main part of the dish), rice and salad were so late we were almost done eating when they arrived. Anyway I enjoyed it and it was one of the best Indian I had.
