A friend of our had recommended Saffron and we weren’t disappointed….The Food and service were excellent and very reasonable for drinks and food…..give it a try I’m sure you’ll like it as much as we did…..we will be back

We are staying at highfields caravan park . We phoned up for delivery arranged to meet at reception , they phoned to say they were there . It was hot , on time and lovely food . Great service

staff are really rude. A telephone booking was made the same day when we entered the restaurant the booking wasnt in their book & no booking could be found. Eventually we were offered a table ( at the time as it was early the restaurant was quiet) staff were slow to serve us. bad really as we had been recommended this restaurant. certainly wont be going there again to spend our money.

Really disappointing. First time customer. I ordered an early evening take away delivery. It arrived over 35 -40 minutes late in a carrier bag, not the usual insulated bag. So all the food was luke warm. No updates either that the delivery was going to be late. The onion bhajis were really tough on the outside. The king prawns in the balti curry were also really tough and clearly over cooked. The curry itself had minimal flavour and just a generic sauce. The aloo gobi was basically a sauce of mashed up potato and cauliflower. I realise that this restaurant has had a lot of positive reviews, which is why I choose it for the first time. Sadly I won’t use them again. Sorry.

Our first visit to Saffron. We will return over and again, everything was delicious and beautifully presented. The staff were attentive and helpful. We highly recommend a visit to this outstanding Indian restaurant.

We went to this restaraunt while visiting our son. We were not disappointed. The staff were lovely, the place was clean and the food was to notch.

Ordered takeaway for collection and to be honest it wasn't great! Curry was watery and not very creamy and there was very little chicken present. The naan was black on one side and tasted burnt! Only one poppadom in bag when we had ordered and paid for more. We certainly wouldn't bother ordering from here again and will take our custom elsewhere.

I'm sorry to have to write this review but my experience was absolutely dreadful. We ordered a takeaway to be delivered - after 2 hours we phoned to say it had not been delivered and was told it would be 15 minutes. Still no food so we called again to be told driver had just left. After half an hour we called again but then the food arrived - hooray we thought but the wrong order had been delivered. So we phoned to complain (cut a long story short) after 2 hang ups we were told that they would refund us and let us keep the meal that had been delivered but that was inedible as the food was way too hot for my taste. So three hours later we went to MacDonalds!! The refund did come through but the evening with my family was spoilt, I will never order from here again.

Mohammed Ali served me (not the boxer) but if he put the enthusiasm into boxing in the same was he puts it into hospitality I’m sure he’d be as equally successful. They do a great variety of food and are open to requests so I’d 100% recommend a keema naan with added cheese! Worth the drive, however, beware that it’s free deliver for orders over £20, up to 4 miles. Something I wish I realised living 3.9mile away. Subsequently I got the 10% off collection discount.

We regularly visit the saffron and also have takeaway delivered, I can't understand the negative reviews as this is by far the best Indian restaurant/takeaway in Clacton and surrounding areas. Our food is always hot, delicious and great value, the service and hospitality is top notch, fantastic and friendly attentive staff every time. We wouldn't go anywhere else , we absolutely love the saffron 😊

Ordered a takeaway, once it finally arrived, was not up to its normal standard, nan bread you couldn't even eat as gone rock hard , so that was a waste of money. Saffron was normally the best takeaway for a Indian, definitely not now . Must have a new cook or something

So I’ll start off with the fact that this is very very over priced for what you get for your money, secondly the food was awful! Dry hard rice, korma sauce that tasted absolutely atrocious lamb that resembled a shoe it was that chewy. The service was not up to the standard i would expect when eating at a restaurant they couldn’t of cared less about making sure we was enjoying our food, if they had asked me when I was eating they would of known it was not okay. Instead they swooped in when my dining companion had left to see if the food was okay despite there being over half of my food left so clearly it was anything other than okay. Lastly they charge you for the chutney tray which I didn’t ask for and didn’t use, but this wasn’t even explained to me when i ordered it was just given to us. It wasn’t used and that’s more money wasted on food that wasn’t edible. If you are visiting Clacton steer clear of this curry house, there are very few to chose from which explains the mostly good reviews for this place, if a decent curry house was in Clacton these cowboys would go out of business. 1 star is being generous.

First visit for a few years and unfortunately on this occasion not the best experience. The service was slow throughout the night. Whilst my food was amazing both my husband and our friend didn’t enjoy theirs as much and then luckily I spotted we had been charged for 2 bottles of wine and had to get the bill altered. Shame as I’ve always had a good experience previously

This restaurant is nice to visit in person but I cannot recommend using it for delivery, the delay in delivery is far too long. It is a pity as the food is tasty.

My wife and I ordered a takeaway from this restaurant tonight 24th June, we have used it before but tonight’s offering was below our standard with forgotten Nan bread only 4 pieces of chicken in one of the main meals also we felt the food was not hot enough. This takeaway was below the standard I expect.

This was the first time I have visited this restaurant as it was my birthday it was a special occasion The staff was so friendly and accommodating nothing was to much trouble a lovely ambiance and friendly service! They even gave us a free drink at the end of our meal! The food was outstanding and I would highly recommend eating here! We was the last ones to leave the restaurant and they all probably wanted to go home but chatted to us and made us feel so welcome I’m looking forward to taking my family there and will b recommending this restaurant to friends and family Mohamed was our waiter and was friendly and helpful throughout our night. Thank you to the owners and staff for making birthday special.

We ate in the restaurant tonight. We had to wait 1.5 hours until we got our food. When we outlined our dissatisfaction to the manager no apology only that they were busy!

This restaurant was a recommendation from friends. The service is impeccable. Hygiene was really good. We watched people leave and even the chairs were cleaned, as well as the table. Can’t recommend this restaurant enough. Great food, great service, lovely staff. If visiting Clacton again...

We tried Saffron to cheer ourselves up during lockdown and it certainly did. Saffron food is always lovely and the delivery is very fast. I would definitely recommend it.

We ordered a home delivery of chicken tikka with bombay potatoes and a nan to share. Arrived inside the promised 45 mins but was cold! Chicken was dry, potatoes stodgy and the nan was also dry and doughy. Big disappointment and won't be giving them...

so , completed order online at 17.15 for delivery nice little timer pops up to say delivery will happen in 1hr and 9 mins. at 18.24 the timer went off as it had finished i called them at 18.25 and again at 19.05 as delivery...

Long wait 2hrs 20 mins to serve banquet for 4 people. food was tastless... been here many times and never complained.. ended up saying to us rogan gosh is a mild curry!!! We should ask them to have it spicy as it is a mild dish!!! Hungry horse curries have more flavour at quarter of the price.. will not be visiting there again.. so disappointing

We thought we would try a different Indian restaurant for a take away as the usual one last time,seemed to have gone downhill. The order arrived 30 minutes later than what we were quoted on the web site (a bad start) but the food was good we both had prawn dishes and they were both packed with prawns, the rice wears also very good and nan bread etc but the biggest disappointment was all the popadoms were broken into small pieces! But the reason I only gave four stars is the food although good did seem to lack a lot of taste.

Been using the Saffron more than 10 years, we drive from Frinton to eat there.... We are there weekly, never disappointed... Not only is the food excellent, the choice is vast and freshly cooked. The staff are courteous and always in good humour, which makes the whole evening very pleasant. Yes, you can wait a little longer if they are busy, but, it's worth it!!!

I made an order at 19.00 for my family for takeaway. I was told it could be 1h20m for delivery which was okay. AT 20.30 nothing had come, so I rung to ask if it had left the shop, to which I was told it could be atleast another 20 minuets. So I cancelled the order as I feel even for a take away a 2 hour wait just isn't good enough

Visiting from North East England our final night here and fancied an Indian.. King prawn on puri was tasty enough but it wasn't served with a puri?? Don't know what the bread was.. Definitely not a puri. Chicken Tikka was tasteless my husband said.We both got Lamb Tikka mains with different sauces, again the sauces were nice but the Lamb Tikka was tough and I mean tough with runs off fat and gristle throughout, I had a problem cutting it, my hubby was trying to cut his lamb and it was that difficult his knife slipped sending rice all over. We did mention this when waiter came over as we just couldn't eat it, we left most of it, he did not agree with us.I asked if he tried the lamb and he then proceeded to give me a cookery lesson about how barbecued lamb will be tough and that his chef cannot cut out all of the fat and gristle and tries to mix it up equally!!! I have had many dishes of lamb Tikka and none of them have been like this meal tonight, it should be tender and juicy, it shouldn't be like chewing old leather. He did remove 1 cola and 1 glass of wine from the bill, I however did not think this was enough. Very very disappointed

Had a meal late one night just made the ten o’clock sit down rule , food nice but staff a little pushy and unprofessional.

Ok we now do take away why they take a long time to serve you maybe due to more people wanting take away. Chicken Tika could have a bit more chicken in it.

Went to this restaurant with a good friend as a treat the place looked clean and we ordered drinks. Poppadoms arrived and we ordered kebab for starter, tasteless sorry but it was we ordered our mains waiter said to try Garlic Handi long braised lamb in a spicy garlic sauce, well it arrived with our other di it was mutton not lamb very tough could not cut and to my horror I bit down, to find a sharp bone that I could have swallowed I was horrified, we left very soon after. I have to say the place clean and just OK food OK, but I will not eat there again I am sorry it really scared me with the bone.

Beautiful Indian buffet food (8/10) but.... Sat at a cracked window (worrying) overlooking the surrounding dump of a street, Sun completely in our eyes whole meal no blinds available. Waiter seem to take a liking to my daughter made us feel uncomfortable. The waiter wanted to describe every dish & tell us when to eat (please just label dishes & let customers eat peacefully) £75 spent on 4 people buffet meal, 8 popodoms & 8 drinks reasonable but wouldn't return 2/10 for restaurant & staff.

It been a few years since we visited the Saffron but we’re glad we tried it again. You might think the mains are a bit on the expensive side but the prices are well worth it as the portions are much larger than other local places we’ve tried and the flavour and tenderness of the meat was fantastic. Would totally recommend and the buffet night is a must

We booked in advance and the food was delicious. 6 of us tried many of their own speciality dishes and were not disappointed. Great flavours. The sharing starters in particular were amazing. The service was brilliant.

Restaurant service is very good but Home delivery not so good. Ordered at 5.10pm but food not delivered until 7pm despite several phone calls, when ordering advised that I had a allergy to lemon, when food arrived there was a chunk of lemon in with the salad and food just about warm. Think their home delivery service needs reviewing, Would still eat in the restaurant.

Ordered an Indian from here for the 1st time I ordered chicken tikka vindaloo Special fried rice, king prawn puri starter Onion baji and pishwari nan Everything was nice except onion bajis which where a little flat Overall the meal was OK and reasonable priced

This is probably the best Indian Restaurant in the area. Never had a bad meal there. Staff are very attentive and the meals are very good value for money. The only downside is because the size of the restaurant windows it can be a bit noisy

We went here tonight for a family meal, and to be honest we were a bit concerned after reading such a terrible review from the last people.... However, they are completely wrong!!

Having been seated upon arrival relatively quickly on a Saturday night, things started to go down hill.

We visited saffron on a Wednesday evening whilst on holiday here and honestly it was such a lovely experience! The food was so delicious and tasted amazing.. not like any other curry we’ve had before! The staff were so friendly and would do anything to help you..nothing was too much trouble.. we had a toddler who was not willing to sit down and kept being difficult but the staff were amazing with him and would offer things to help get him to sit down and let us eat our food! Was such a lovely meal - would definitely recommend to friends and family if they ever come to the area!

If you love a curry this is a must visit. Nothing is too much trouble for them. We went on a wednesday evening with 2 children age 11 and 12 and asked for a Chicken Tikka Masala and not too spicy. Delivered spot on - the children loved it. Plenty of parking too. Looking forward to another evening.

I know it was Mother's Day and the restaurant was full however their estimate for waiting time to pick up a take-away was way out and we had to wait another 45 minutes after we arrived. They did try to compensate for the wait by offering a free beer while i waited and then a bottle of wine after i complained again but they should have been honest and told us we would have to wait nearly 2 hours from the time of ordering over the phone. I suspect they didn't because they would have lost the custom! My order was amongst 4 others also waiting to pick up - all of who were also complaining loudly which must have been very off-putting for the seated guests.

The staff are really friendly and helpful. The food is absolutely delicious. We came to this restaurant 35 years ago when it was a great Italian, this Indian restaurant is a super replacement. Will definitely be visiting often.

Arrived at the restaurant to be told they had lost their drinks license but I could go to the shop over the road and buy alcohol there. Upon returning with a couple of bottles of beer I was told there would be a 10% surcharge...

We go to the Saffron at least twice a week, always nice food and friendly, well worth a try in my opinion

The food was OK but not great. It was rather like eating in a canteen, very bright and tables close together. Appropriate for a noodle bar but not at the prices charged here. There is also no drinks license although you can bring your own.

Been going here for many years and have always loved the food, I appreciate that they have had a few problems lately but the last couple of times I've been here the staff have been really miserable apart from 1 who I don't know his name but he has now grown a beard and is by far the most friendly and a pleasure to talk too, I really hope they sort the staffing out and survive there current problems as I feel this was by far the best Indian for miles and I feel it wouldn't take much to bring it back to its former glory as I've never seen it as quiet on a Saturday night as it was

I have used this restuarant for many years now. I have never ever been disappointed. This family have grown up before my eyes. I have seen them expand to Ipswich. They will take the time to explain each dish for your palate. They will adjust the taste to your desire. Should be called "Simply the Best ".

There was a piece in the local newspaper detailing how they were raided by immigration & several staff members taken for being illegals. I've eaten here a few times, it's ok, nothing overly special, the usual curry by numbers all from a standard base. Forget about delivery, you'll wait forever, forget about collection too for that matter as they seem to only cook the food once you've arrived & try & bribe you with a free drink.

Firstly the staff weren't the friendliest. The restaurant is decorated modern style with nice coloured lights. There was no table cloths witch made it like a canteen. Sat with my back to window and after a while my back was very wet from excessive condensation a fact that the table next to us complained about the same thing.The food was very ordinary small pieces of chicken and not much flavour at all and that was a chilli garlic massalla !!overall very disappointing experience and know for a fact there is 2 other Indian restaurants in clacton far superior to this one.

Don't let any of the negative reviews put you off of this friendly and courteous restaurant, the food come out on time, hot and tasty, I recommend this place to anyone, I can't wait to come back from military travels. I would honestly say that this is the best take away and sit in restaurant in town, it's worth the travel in from surrounding areas too! Nothing was ever too much trouble for the staff even with a playing up 2 year old. Well done guys see you all again soon . Keep up the good work and ignore the haters.

Ordered food at 1940, received food at 2115?? Told the kitchen had got muddled up and asked to smile when they finally put food on the table?.. 7 people in group.. not remotely bothered that their service is poor blaming it on a 'busy' Saturday night.. absolute joke, they should stick to take away! Arrogant and no customer care.. never again

tried this one as sick of the others, food tasted right it was lovely and I am ms fussy pants. bombay pots were lovely and in the right sauce, tandoori chicken was fantastic, will be going back very soon, the one we used to like was a long way away so now we can eat it more often yippeehubbys food was great, everything was tip top

We have got more local Indian restaurants to us then the saffron but we choose to travel to saffron because it is so good the staff are friendly and helpful we asked for certain dishes to be made to our liking as we like to Spice them up and they are willing to help us tell us what they think we'll go one of the best Indian restaurants around

One word that summed up my take away experience "tasteless" Everything we ordered was just tasteless, the Korma was exceptionally terrible it was very watery and complete tasteless! My son loves Korma and his never not eaten it from different Indian restaurants/take aways from Clacton but this was so bad he couldn't eat it, it was that bad.. The naan bread was really burnt the bhuna had no taste to it the saga loo was extremely dry.. The only thing that tasted ok was the popadoms. Due to this experience I will never Order from them again.. The feed back I got from ppl is that they make mistakes but always correct them but I wasn't going to wait another hour & 45mins for them to deliver my food but it seems they make a lot of mistakes that they have to correct! However ppl have also said that the food in the restaurant is lovely but they have also been let down when they have ordered their take aways from saffron.

Lovely food, lots of dishes to choose on menu, all fresh and hot, excellent attentive staff, will definitely be returning.

Went to this restraunt because it had a good write up and it was quite close. In fact, I would have travelled much further. The food and service were 1st class. The whole place was bright and clean.The price was reasonable for the district. Parking was easy and right outside.

My family, friends and I have eaten at this restaurant for some time now and never had a bad word to say about the food or the staff however recently I had a delivery on Saturday night from an older man and made me question about the hygiene of the food as his hygiene has been neglected and wasn't very polite at my door. Also came to my door chewing. I will now take this into consideration when/where I order a curry again. It's a shame because the previous drivers have all come across polite and hygienic.

We ordered a takeaway yesterday at 6pm and we were told it would be 45 mins which is great. By 8pm the order still hadn't arrived so we called to ask about it just in case. We were then told 'leaving now' very abruptly and they hung up the phone. Not even an apology. We did not take the order as we felt that over two hours waiting without even a phone call to say they were running late or an apology is completely unacceptable.It's safe to say we certainly will not be returning here for a takeaway or to eat in and neither will anyone I know.

We had the Thursday deal of starter,main,sides and veg.fir £11.95.poppadums too. Nice atmosphere.staff were lovely to talk to.nothing was too much trouble.
