Ryde 2022 illuminated carnival night was a disaster. We queued for 25 minutes to order drinks and food only to be told that the choices we wanted were unavailable. Later queued for 30 minutes to get more drinks and during that time it was announced that there was no more food available this was at 7:30pm. The accommodating staff were working very hard and did best they could but there wasn't enough of them to meet the demand. It wasn't that busy either. I tried to persuade our friends not to go there because of the terrible experiences before especially at group events. We also were guests at a wedding last year (2023) and the food ran out after around 60% had visited the buffet. There were excuses a plenty including the guests were being greed which was a lie. The event was a shambles and the Hotel Ryde Castle is a disgrace to the hospitality industry.

Booked dinner here for my daughters birthday. I had made a reservation almost a month in advance when we booked the holiday to Isle of wight. We had been before in a large group and food was good but forgot how slow the service was. When we got there, someone else was sitting on our reserved table with our name plate on it. We had to find ourselves another table. My daughter has type 1 diabetes and has to have her insulin 10 mins before her meals. I had already told the staff and still waited over 20 minutes for her food. Our food took 45 minutes to arrive. Just ridiculous considering that they we not even busy on a quiet Monday. Food was ok but not worth waiting for that length of time. I would not visit here again. Find it a real shame.

I still cant believe how let down we feel as family, not a care in the world was given!! To be honest, thank goodness for Trip Advisor as the only outlet for expressing how we feel! (And an email to Greene King head office) We booked online about 15-20 minutes before arriving as the website allowed it. We arrived around 10 minutes early and was advised online bookings only update in the morning, so there may or may not be a table available (ridiculous system!) However, a table was cleared and we eventually sat down. We found the staff either passive aggressive (management) or clueless (waitress/bar staff) Before ordering food I double checked the waiting time and made it clear we're catching a ferry so when advised the food was a max of 30 mins (bit of a push we'd make it work) I went ahead and ordered, baring in mind they can CLEARLY SEE we're also feeding a hungry 2 and 5 year old. After 30 minutes of waiting we asked how long the food would be and were advised a further 20 minutes. This would have given us 7 minutes to actually eat. We found this outrageous. Had we have been advised of this at the time of ordering we obviously would of said no as we'd run too late for thr ferry. After asking for a refund the manager wondered off into the kitchen (we're now in a rush to get the kids fed and make the ferry!) Just when you think the drama is over, just simply refund us and we'll be on our way.... She comes to the desk, smug, chin held high and says "I have been advised by my colleague that she told you the food would take an hour" As you can imagine, this was a led balloon moment! This was an ABSOLUTE LIE So, as an experience you have: > An online booking system not talking to the venue. > Poor service: The passive aggressive nature of the manager would make any family uncomfortable (we're paying customers!!) Incompetent staff (slow, eye rolls and actually quite grumpy) Icing on the cake: When dealing with a genuine complaint, don't accuse the customer of lying!! unprofessional and unacceptable. This was our last night of our holiday and it left a really bitter taste on what should have been a lovely last evening. Very disappointing.

Lovely staff, good food, always helpful and also honest. I say this because I was unknowingly overcharged but the member of staff who charged me came over and told me and took me to the bar to be refunded. Well done the Castle staff! Staff coping as well as ever, sadly ran out of chicken by Saturday evening so no Chicken caesar salad today Sunday. They should do better than this really.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ absolutely lovely meal and atmosphere! Was greeted on my way to reception by a young lady named Lolly, who was very polite and welcoming! She showed us to our tables, and was shown the menus! I had the pie, which was delicious! Would strongly recommend! Hats off to the chef and kitchen staff! This place has turned around massively since being handed to the new manager, Who is doing an amazing job at keeping up the standards and creating a great place to eat/stay! ❤️

We booked a table for 7.30. When we arrived we stood at the front desk for approximately 20 minutes waiting to be seated. A customer came into the hotel and indicated we would need to go into the bar to get any assistance. We went into the bar and were told to go back and wait at the desk as they were short-staffed. When a staff member finally came she told us just to go and take a seat wherever we wanted in the dining room. There was no table set for us - the room looked like a bomb had hit it - tables covered in crockery/glasses etc with a table covered in food at the side and the terrace outside covered in glasses etc. The tables and menus were sticky. We were told to order at the bar and given some cutlery. The previous time we visited we had table service in the dining room so this was unexpected. We went to order and again waited ages. Several items were not available and so we returned to our table with warm wine..by this point it was nearly 8.30 and we had a return taxi booked for 9.30. The food finally came and portions were measly - not what we had experienced before; the food was generally pub-standard. We rushed through the food, changed our return taxi and returned to the bar for coffee/desserts only to be told the kitchen was shut. Before leaving an assistant manager suddenly made an appearance and asked us if we were part of the function that had previously occupied the room and if we had enjoyed it. We explained our experience and she seemed surprised, especially not being allowed a dessert so early in the evening. Our taxi driver told us he had been a regular customer but after their last experience would not go back so clearly ours was not an isolated experience.

Truly awful time and good money spent at the ryde castle, ordered drinks and 2 cokes came flat so took them to the manager who got a straw to test them, maybe we were not trustworthy? , nes drinks arrived 20 mins later after our family had finished theirs and some excuse of someone putting the wrong taps on so not sure what we drank to be honest. Food was ordered and arrived in good time, just missing onion rings and only a handful of chips for £15.50 each, asked waitress and she said it’s not her problem as she’s only been there a day I would have to speak to the boss ( no induction or training?) we saw the manager who sad we dong have onion rings for us , Ed asked why she didn’t tell us before we paid , she said she didn’t know although she is the manager, so we paid through false advertising, we also asked if we could have some more fries to make up for it and was told we could only have a few, she brought 10 chips between 3 off us , I’ve been visiting the ryde castle for years and family come from ryde , we won’t go there again can’t believe how far it’s fallen

We were on holiday in the local are and decided to book dinner here on two separate occasions. The first thing that grabbed our attention was the fact they were dog friendly we found out from our first visit that not only did they allow dogs but went above and beyond to accommodate in whichever way we needed. The food and drinks that we ordered were amazing, so much so that we came back for our final meal before traveling back home. Finally, we must highlight just how fabulous the service was, the staff continuously went above and beyond to meet our every need with a friendly and attentive manor despite it being one of the busiest nights yet. We must emphasise our thank you for all of this to- Chelsea, Jess, Pheobe and Sid! (along with another member of staff that we never managed to get a name from on the Friday night) Will definitely be back when visiting the Island again.

Very disappointed. They were sold out of almost everything! I wanted a roast dinner, but had to have lasagne instead. It was overcooked. We have been coming to this pub for years and I must say in the past 2 years it has gone down hill for dinning. The staff are very friendly and helpful though.

Staff were beyond lovely, however seemed extremely overworked resulting to a long wait for food and drinks. The staff were extremely apologetic but just seemed to be run off their feet. The food was varied, some of it was brilliant whereas other bits were just decent, missing things from the meal and not that tasty. It’s located right near the beach so can get extremely busy, so worth booking ahead. Full restaurant but only 2/3 staff working on the floor. Also safe to say we weren’t the only family who were disappointed.

We regularly meet here for coffee, there is one staff member who is so rude, I think she must have missed all of the customer service training! She walks away from the bar area when she sees us walking towards it to order our drinks,and doesn't come back, we regularly have to go out to reception to ask if somebody can come and serve at the bar, when she brings our coffee to us she slams it down on the table, I have a allergy to milk and asked for oat milk, she didn't put this in my drink and it made me ill. She seems to have a real issue with us every time we come in there, we are not noisy, we sit at our table and there for a couple of hours drinking coffee and having a catch up. I honestly think that hospitality is not the correct role for her!

I have changed my previous review that was negative to good one, I went again as I have to give credit where credit is due the menu has changed I had a delicious burger my kids loved the pizza. We was in a group of 5 there was no tables available at the bar so they seated us in the conference room which was great. It was busy that’s because it’s summer and in a great location I will be back.

We were a table with three groups meeting together , we queued next to each other and ordered one after the other but the orders came out sporadically and with things missing, the last two meal were brought out after everyone else had finished eating and one Caesar salad on one order had no croutons and no dressing , the next had croutons but no dressing so was just a dry grilled chicken salad 🤔the poor serving staff were obviously run ragged so can't fault them bless them there were only TWO that we saw for the whole place !!! We didn't order dessert because we thought it may came out after we'd left!! At one point I was needing the bathroom but it took so long to get my salad I was scared to leave the table in case they took it from me 🙄the poor servers weren't at fault rely but definitely wouldn't want to eat there again unfortunately ☹️

The food was unbelievably disappointing. Roast dinner. Beef was overcooked & bland, roast potatos were tiny with no potatoe inside & oily, gravy was lumpy & cold, sides were forgotten 3-4 requests to get the right orders, veg was full of water.. We refused to pay & left to find an alternative.

I had a really nice meal here, I had the Sea Bass Risotto, well cooked with good flavours and well presented. My mother stayed at the hotel and had a lovely room, however, she did stay for 2 nights, and her room wasn't serviced during that time, which wasn't an issue with the room being dirty, however, it would have been nice if the tea and coffee had been filled up on a daily basis

I was really disappointed with the service today. Came in for some early dinner with my family, the dining room wasnt that busy but only 1 waiter. At first very attentive and got orders in straight away, after that everything just got slower; Dinner took maybe 20 minutes to come out which is fair enough: four of us, 2 sunday roasts and 2 kids meals and everyone elses mothers day meals to cook. The food left a lot to be desired-the beef was fatty and tough, which meant most of it was left on the plate and the veg for the sunday roast was a tiny portion of carrots and parsnips (I won't count the undercooked teeny potatoes) But after we finished eating there was 2 other tables in the room and after waiting 30 minutes to get the waiters attention for the bill and our plates were never taken away. The toilets were clearly never attended as there was no toilet paper in one of the loos in the 2 hours we were there. Very upsetting when it was good two years ago. Ruined my mum's Mothers Day.

Could not of provided a better experience! From checking in to checking out everything about our 4-night stay was beyond criticism. Sean, Mark, Aimee and the whole team were absolutely superb. What more do you want? .... A sincerely warm welcome: great food from breakfast through to dinner; fantastic room, sensitively serviced and scrupulously cleaned; secure and handy ample on-site parking. Need we say more? A great way to start our "staycation summer"..(Beware of the horrendous ferry charges for you and your car - it's always been the same ). And the new Island Line trains should be up and running (sic) "by the end of the summer holidays" ; maybe they've missed a trick there!! But that's in no way the fault of the Ryde Castle Hotel, which was a superb experience all round.Despite the ferry charges - we'll be back!!

Excellent table service all round, a good choice of hard and soft drinks, and great choices on the food menu. Food cooked to a high standard. Happy to recommend the Ryde Castle, and very happy to return in the future. Suggest you book to avoid disappointment. Well done to the Ryde Castle team.

The decor is very nice throughout. We stayed for a night on business. We had an evening meal and it was excellent. The service was good and Covid safe. The best thing is that all of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Rated a 4 and not a 5 as the breakfast could have been better. Apart from the eggs, it was clear that the others items had been on hot plates and I do like lots of hot drinks at breakfast. I am sure that this is just because of Covid and would gladly recommend.

Well, where do I start! I got pissed on by God! And there were no brollys to shelter my freshly straightened hair, most upset! I recieved fat chips instead of skinny fries, my baby gem lettuce was actually iceberg! Also extremely upset.. I also asked the lovely waitress lizzie if I could get a new burger if I didn't like the chutney provided and was declined! But as it happens it was rather nice.. oh and there's no outdoor heater so I had to bring my own blanket! Other than that it was an amazing experience dinning at Ryde Castle, had a giggle with the staff and thoroughly enjoyed myself! Highly recommended

Decided on a whim to see if we could grab a table for a quick drink, Emma welcomed us at the entrance and whilst apologising that all tables were fully booked, checked how long we were looked to stop for. She then checked all reservations and managed to find a table that was free for long enough to stop for a cheeky drink and also a side of nachos! Hotel room is amazing and the bed is super comfortable! Food was amazing. I ordered the Tikka Masala and it was the best Tikka Masala I have ever had. Staff was very helpful and communicated with guests/customers very well. Thank you to Emma, Lizzie & Craig the staff who work at the hotel and Restaurant. I will be coming back again! We stayed there for 4 nights and only slept for two of them. First night we were on the second floor and all night all we could hear was the plumbing cutting in and out. I visited Ryde Castle on a Friday, during the early evening, after the staff helpfully managed to fit myself and my friend in with a last minute table booking.The staff were not only helpful but also very friendly, despite being reasonably busy.We placed an order for the steak & ale pie, and the salmon florentine. Our order arrived in good time, looking delicious and piping hot. We both enjoyed our meals, and the staff ensured as much with a timely check back, which was much appreciated. I hope to be able to visit again soon!

As I’m sure you can understand I wasn’t expecting much from The Castle & if you’ve read my previous reviews you know my standards are that of french nobility. Normally frequented by scaffolders, wannabe football hooligans & general scumbags of Ryde I was pleasantly surprised by my recent visit. The place was immaculate, the staff were friendly & there wasn’t a runny nosed Beeney in sight!My starter, Chicken Liver Pâté, resembled a Renaissance painting, the rosemary was ornately placed on top of a creamy layer of buttery fat & the bread was toasted so perfectly that Michelangelo would have been proud to call it one of his works. The pâté could only be described as a masterpiece, as if the Statue of David himself had come to life, grown arms, ripped the livers from eight virgin hens & prepared it as an offering to the Gods. My main, a simple yet well thought out chicken burger was presumably prepared from the breast of one of the aforementioned avians. Whoever prepared this dish knew their way around a cock, the meat was delicious. Not to mention the porky kiss that was the rasher of streaky bacon, skin on fries, understated side salad & a burger bun resembling the bosom of an 18th century milk maid, soft, delicate & powder white.Visiting The Castle parallels visiting a Thai Massage Parlour, friendly & welcoming with undertones of shame & excitement. There’s a chance you could sit in something sticky & you would never openly talk about going there. However, you’ll always leave with a smile on your face & a skip in your step.*It’s also worth noting that our server clearly had special needs, it’s great to see that this venue truly is an equal opportunities employer!

We visited for the second time in a month on Saturday and were impressed with the service and the food. Very attentive and good quality in a pleasant atmosphere. The precautions in place because of the pandemic were handled well and unobtrusively. Wonderful staff with Paige in the restaurant being a particular star. We will be back soon. The Island needs good quality, reasonably priced and well presented places like this.

Visited today around 1:30 with my wife and daughter. I had chosen the chicken in a basket, great portions of chicken, lovely and moist. The best meal I have had there period! My wife had the bacon and cheese burger. In which she said had great flavour and generous portions of chips and three onion rings. A side of ciabatta garlic bread with cheese which was toasted with perfection. My daughter had a kid build our own pasta, which is a great idea. She had nearly eaten it all. All in all, a great please to visit. The staff are very welcoming and polite.

Me and hubby stayed here for 4 nights and we have had a wonderful stay. All staff we came into contact with were very friendly and welcoming. Room with a view of the sea and Portsmouth, had everything we needed, hairdryer, iron etc. Slept like a log every night which is u usual for me! The bar area is lovely, we were able to sit outside on the first day, great little sun trap.We drove over and drove all over the island and felt like we were in the best part. We will be back xx

After being let down at the weekend for my birthday my family and I went to ryde castle for a meal. Chose to visit for lunch and were offered a table in a side room off the main passageway. The menu was extensive but mainly pub grub type food. We ordered (eventually) and the two drinks then took 25 minutes to arrive. The food took a further 15 minutes despite it not being a large or complex order. We felt neglected as did another family in the same small room who waited even longer than we did.The food was nothing special but certainly edible.We eventually gave up on desserts and coffee and went elsewhere to finish our meal.

We booked from recommendations from our hotel and we're sorely disappointed, we gave every opportunity for both staff and manager to put things right. We just paid the bill and left.The drinks and food we ordered were advertised as being available, but, were not, even after two people took the order, noone seemed to know what was available and what was not, until it was too late.We were show to our table and left hanging. When no one came, I saw several other folks wandering up to the bar to order. On returning to my table, someone was taking orders from tables either side of us.In these unpresidented times it is so important to minimise movement in social settings.When I visited the loo, no toilet paper, dispenser broken, paper all over the floor last checked at 18.00, now 21.00.There is a real need for a good Duty if Care and Best Practice to meet and exceed customers expectations and to keep us all safe.

We stayed as a family of 3 for 2 nights in August. The hotel is directly opposite the beach which is big and clean with nice sand. We had a room overlooking the beach but it was so hot. The window only opened a little and although we had a fan, it was uncomfortable to sleep. We had a disabled bathroom that got so hot, and the water pressure was difficult to sort, the water turned to scalding quite quickly. We didn’t have breakfast but we ate and drank in the outside area each night which was lovely and nice to be able to sit outside as a family. The food was v good, and though there were a couple of issues with service, the staff were great. I have already recommended this hotel to others and wouldn’t hesitate to return next year.

We were staying in the hotel and ate here because it was easy and we had our kids with us. The menu was a bit 'chainy' and unimaginative but we enjoyed our two steaks and the kids food was ok. My littlest child had 'vegan' ice cream for pudding (he has an allergy to milk) and was convinced that it was dairy ice cream and that it made him feel sick - we'll never know if it was dairy or not but it wasn't a great end to the evening. Other than that I'd say it was a typical British chain experience, not amazing, not awful, just 'ok'.

We have just come back from, what was meant to be a nice, quiet meal for me and my partner and it was anything but. Firstly, we were seated at a table across from the toilets, not a good start. The table of five behind us were so loud that we couldn't hear ourselves think and they complained non stop all the time we were there. We ordered food and drinks and the drinks arrived in plastic glasses!! My gin was in one plastic glass and my tonic in another one. I could understand it if we were sat outside but we were inside having a meal!! What really annoyed me is that other people sat inside and not having food were given proper glasses. When the food arrived, it was nice (the only reason for the 1 star) and we ordered 2 more drinks. They never arrived!! When the young girl came over, she asked if the food was okay. I told her it was but that we'd never got our drinks. She asked what we'd ordered and was ready to take the order again. I said 'don't bother' and asked for the bill. Even that took ages coming. When we left, we went into the beer garden and saw 3 young blokes order drinks with the young girl and, within a minute, they had their drinks!! Needless to say, the night was a complete disaster and we won't be returning. We live on the island and this WAS our local, WAS being the operative word, never again.

Quick bite to eat about 2pm, good social distancing being observed; garden is excellent and really well spaced out which is nice. Table service, which is a surprising and welcome change in these times, staff were very busy but once attracted over they were very friendly and attentive. Beer was very chilled; lovely!! Had to try a second just to check the consistency!! Good relaxed atmosphere, will revisit here to check out the dinner menu in the future. Oh, and dog friendly too; they even brought out a water bowl for my friends terrier unasked, which was a nice touch!! Looks to be busy in waves so may want to enquire about booking when they’re busy but we turned up without a reservation and had no problem getting in. Would recommend!

Whilst staying overnight I decided to return to Ryde Castle for a meal as the food and in particular the service was really good. Also I thought in the current circumstances it would be a safe place to eat.So I was taken to my table in a corner with two other well distanced tables. My order was taken promptly but throughout the whole meal the staff were not very attentive. You either had to wave to get someone's attention, which meant popping up like a meerkat or go into the bar area, which had a lot of people (customers) milling around both the bar. Those seated on the opposite table to me also commented on how poor the service. It was felt like that because we were off to one side we had been forgotten about, as most of the waiting staff were either milling by the door to the patio or outside dealing with customers there. Part way through my meal another customer came into our area and started to have a conversation via loud speaker on his phone with his girlfriend. He seemed to have no concern about the current COVID situation, social distancing or that he was making he guests in this small area very uncomfortable. Honestly quite rude and went unchallenged by the staff who clearly saw him when they deem to pass by en-route somewhere else. Thankfully the customer on the table opposite challenged the intruder and asked him politely to leave. All in all not a pleasant experience and goes against Green King's advertising on their website about providing a safe environment for customers.Interesting is that I have been in another Green King restaurant on the Island and they seem to be taking keeping their customers safe more seriously and after this experience I will not be returning to Ryde Castle nor will I be recommending it. Honestly I feel it would be much safer to sit out on the Esplanade with a takeaway and this will tell you that this meal was not a pleasant experience

Was welcomed into the hotel by a member of staff wearing the appropriate PPE. The receptionist (Simone) was very welcoming and talkative, recommended some good food! We was also served by a lovely young lady (Shannon) she was very polite and made sure we had everything we needed and went out of her way to ensure we had a lovely meal! Now admittedly it was a very hot day when we arrived shortly before 5pm on a Tuesday during our holiday. Social distancing measures at the entrance were correctly in place and we were greeted by a staff member in proper protective mask and plastic splatter guard, asked to sanitise our hands and shown through to the garden seating area. We were told table service was for drinks and food but after 15 minutes wait nobody had come for our order so my partner put on his mask and went inside to order at the bar and returned with the drinks. At 5pm we beckoned a waitress for a food menu. At this point we became aware that three of the waiting staff serving drinks and food to guests in the garden were wearing their splatter guards on their head ... and nobody seemed to think it strange! Makes a mockery of precautions put in place by the authorities to protect people. Thank heavens our waitress wore hers.

Had eaten in the garden here on the 10/8/20 with a loved one had great customer service part from had no cutlery or napkin with my main course like my other half did and had to wait till one of the servers had to become available although wasn't busy at the time was just hot. Had taken a while for a server to come over and had to go looking for one to pay the bill. Other then that was ok.

We had a delicious meal at the Ryde Castle Hotel. My prawn cocktail had lots of plump prawns and the sirloin steak was really succulent. The menu has a good selection and the portion size was just right. We found the staff to be very attentive and welcoming. Also, the surroundings were beautiful. After all, who wouldn’t enjoy eating in a castle?

Ate there today and had a great experience. We have been disappointed on many occasions and it is really nice to see that the management have finally got what seems like a good team together. We were greeted at the door and asked to sanitize our hands, no problem at all. We were shown to our table (outside as it was a beautiful day), were given a disposable menu and told that it would be full table service.We were waited on by a really switched on waitress called Jess, who was very attentive, got our drinks promptly, gave us time to look at the menu and was always there when we needed anything in spite of it being quite busy.I am glad to say that we will definitely be back and look forward to equally good hospitality in the future.

Amazing roast dinner and dessert! Lovely staff, very kind, helpful, and understanding. We are coming back again for sure!!! Really recommend this little gem, can’t believe it wasn’t more packed! We spilt gravy everywhere and staff were very helpful to help my friends who burnt themselves, and moved us tables so we could get a clean start! Staff were amazing ❤️

Only stopped in for a coffee but was made to feel very welcome by the staff and the log burner. Have to say it was one of the best coffees I've had on the island! Will return in the summer to enjoy the ample outside seating.

Moved here a couple of years ago & have driven past loads always promising to visit as looks gorgeous from the outside. So came here for the first time Sunday and found the food to be exceptional! At last we found a pub that can cook roast beef pink!!! I had the duck and was blown away, as for the doughnuts filled with onion jam - I have no words! Puds were home made and utterly gorgeous and service excellent from Hannah. On that premise we booked for my birthday today (Wednesday) for 4 of us and we were not disappointed! Food was incredible again - my fillet steak was out of this world. Service was again very good and I was surprised with a dessert birthday plate. Price point was spot on for such wonderful food & drink in a characterful setting. Definitely my new favourite “foodie” pub on the Island, you’ll be hard pushed to find anything else of this standard.
