Rubbish Crap Often shy away from this place as it usually feels like the staff either try too hard, or not at all. Had little choice today as my dog was pretty tired. When ordering a coffee, I asked if they could rustle up a sausage for him, and that I'd of course, be happy to pay. The woman brought over a bowl of stone cold sausagemeat which wasn't really what I'd asked for, but never mind. Upon paying, I realised I'd been charged a ridiculous amount for this. £2.80 for an unappetising bowl of nonsense even my dog refused to eat. When I questioned them, I got an icy, awkward response. Newsflash. This is Whitley Bay, not Covent Garden. Drop the pretense, drop the passive aggression, and drop the prices for those of us who actually know the difference.

Very noisy with staff and manager slamming crockery and cutlery, it was later in the day but others were still coming in and being served. Coffee was good but after being told cake was half price between 3 -5pm the waitress tried charging us full price.

The breakfast here is worth shouting about and is easily one of the best in the area. The sausages and bacon (the bacon is SO good) are sourced from a local butcher, the coffee is great and the poached eggs are perfect. The only downside is not being able to choose how you want your eggs, but the quality of the poached eggs easily makes up for this. Give this place a try, you won’t be disappointed!

I've visited Rustic Cup a few times now with friends. It's open all week long and its handy and local and the service is friendly and the owner seems a nice guy...... However he must ride a horse to work as his prices are Bandit prices. I come away from the place every time feeling completely ripped off. A bacon sandwich which consists of two pieces of back bacon and a very meagre salad consisting of 5 bits of rocket, its served in a pre baked frozen ciabatta, not even the slipper kind but a small square bun the size of your palm. An absolute rip off. Yes ingredients are going up but they are charging Cafe 21 prices for very poorly turned out dishes which are tight, small and terrible value. If it was a generous well made bacon sandwich I wouldn't have a problem. The fact that is 2 bits of bacon in a small frozen bun that bakes in 8 mins is just insulting for the price they are charging. I've had better prepackaged bacon sandwiches in petrol stations. But the place is full and they are clearly getting away with it so I might as well go and scream at the pigeons. Please sort out the value of your dishes and stop bastardising bacon sandwiches.

Been here on a few occasions for coffee and cake and omg the banana bread is to die for! The espresso butter I think is just what makes it 👌 hats off to the chef!!! However the last few times we have been the coffee hasn't been the best, luke warm and also the cakes seem to get thinner and thinner while the price seems to constantly increase. We popped in here the other day, on a really cold morning. We'd passed earlier as we were looking for somewhere to go for breakfast, but decided against this place as there was no menu in the window, so we weren't sure what was on offer. But as we walked back to the car after eating elsewhere, we thought we'd pop in for a cuppa. As soon as you walked in, you could feel the heating. It just instantly felt nice and cosy, although I'm sure that comes at quite an expense for the business to run. But I really appreciated that. The guy took us to our table and chatted briefly, and he was just lovely. It was really nicely decorated, had a nice atmosphere, and I just loved everything about the place. I was a bit disappointed that we had chose to go elsewhere earlier. But we'll definitely be back to try their food. We did, however, get tempted with their apparently famous banana bread, with peanut butter. That was quite tasty. Really filling after breakfast, but glad we got a piece to share. A bit of clotted cream with it, would have made a world of difference. My only recommendation would be to encourage them to put a menu in the window, as that might encourage more custom, as we definitely chose not to go in because of that initially. But no further improvements. And a lovely touch was the note on the table which explained their background. Lovely place!

This is an eatery where the waiting staff actually walk round to check if there's anything that customers might need! Who knew that could happen? It's not enough to serve excellent coffee (which they do) if the service is poor. Full marks to RC for getting right what so many seem to neglect. Perhaps they should start another business - Rustic Service - so they can show others the proper way to do customer service.

While being a massive advocate for independent businesses and for shopping local I have been to Rustic Cup a few times now since covid. I have to say it has not been the best experience. The food is “ok”. It’s expensive but nothing to write home about, cakes are generic, nothing different to anywhere else. However, what is different is the type of service and staff you experience. You are made to order at your table which can take anything from 5 minutes to 30. Then there is the wait for food and or drinks. It takes forever. I have even seen my coffees sitting on the counter waiting for someone to bring them over, and I have waited and waited a bit more. I even went and offered to take my own and was told by a sour faced girl not to take them, they would be brought over… which they were when the coffee was cold. Then the lunch came which was expensive but ok, not outstanding..Some of the youngsters who wait tables are very polite but absolutely clueless. It’s like they have been given a job and literally not told anything about what they are serving. I don’t blame them at all. I have given Cup a few tries now but have decided I won’t be back. If it’s for lunch or even just a coffee go a few extra yards to Al Bear, there they are very welcoming, they have friendly efficient staff and you get really nice hot coffee, and their food is delicious.

Rustic Cup is aesthetically appealing and their Ethiopian coffee is outstanding. They use the same company as Boatyard (Cullercoats) - which is one of my favourite coffees. They have gone through a lot of changes of staff and menu since we started going in 2020. It was erratic in its opening times but always worth popping in for a coffee and cake when it was open. The discomfort began when the owner started to open up (during a pandemic lockdown) about his belief that Covid is a hoax/conspiracy. We stopped going for a while after that - until we ended up there with some of our friends & acquaintances. The experience was embarrassing for us. We were made to feel unwelcome for asking if certain items on the menu contained milk or dairy - as their menu was unclear on this. We find that their food is usually unclear in its suitability for vegans. When we have asked members of staff, we have received differing responses. It turns out that several options we have been told were vegan in the past are made using dairy. Several times we have been misled; although I'm sure it was an error and not intentional, for it to happen several different times, we find that we can no longer trust what they claim. We were made to feel like an inconvenience. I was embarrassed when a member of staff passed on a message from the kitchen - that we shouldn't ask or expect accommodations for vegans in future visits - and said we should have called ahead to check (we did call ahead to check what was suitable; we were given conflicting information when we asked in-person). I felt conflicted about staying despite already ordering; if I was on my own, I would have walked out. The owner is rather rude and just a bit 'off' with people. They would greatly benefit from letting other staff learn the menus and run the café; it is a lovely looking place - but we felt out of place there. I would be concerned if I had any allergies as their knowledge was erratic and those in charge seemed rather erratic themselves. It's all rather erratic beneath the polished surface - with a feeling of discontent for those that simply want to know if what they are eating or drinking has dairy in it or not. I find it unnecessarily uncomfortable. Pros: Great Coffee, Looks Lovely Cons: Unfriendly, Unwelcoming, Expensive & Underwhelming Food

Atmosphere was great, even during the day. Can't wait to return of an evening when the fires will hopefully be roaring. Well worth a visit.

We visited here for an early dinner yesterday. Food was excellent but the only really BIG let down was the staff. We finished our meal but sat 30-40 mins with the plates in front of us whilst there was 5 members of staff just standing behind the bar. It was not that busy at this time, the couple on the next table had finished before us and they were sat with plates in front of them as well. We noticed your staff were all quite young maybe they were waiting for someone to tell them what to do! We were going to order more drinks and coffees but we got ignored. We left with the plates still on the table and went to the bar to get our own bill. We normally always leave a generous tip but not on this occasion. As I mentioned food excellent but your staff let you down big time.

Didn't have food, but coffee was a delicious, lovely atmosphere and nice and warm. Young lady who served us was really pleasant and very friendly. Thank you 😊

Almost felt cheeky to ask so late (nigh on 7 on a Thursday evening ) if a table for two was available & was assured that they could squeeze us in at the window seating if we were there before 8. We managed to get there around 7.30 and we (my daughter and I) were given a table. Bonus! Drinks order quickly taken & food order shortly after. Mocktail & Cocktail duly arrived and, after a short wait, the food too. We’ve been to Omni many times, for brunch, lunch & dinner, and it is always memorable…It’s very chilled, limited menu maybe but when everything is delicious then that’s fine by me. Ribs to die for, slow cooked beef shin curry, ginger rice & Asian slaw were demolished. In fact, even with two big appetites, we couldn’t eat it all so a little box was required to take home the rest. Many, many thanks to the brilliant staff; so accommodating, so intuitive & so caring. All adding up to a perfect evening. I love that such a great restaurant is five minutes from our house & look forward to visiting again….soon…very soon
