We were looking for somewhere to have breakfast on our way home to Wales after visiting Reading. The website/instagram looked impressive and we do enjoy a brunch regularly- the pictures matched with our usual expectations of a breakfast/brunch establishment. However our food was very underwhelming. We ordered two of the full breakfasts, a pot of tea and latte. The breakfast compromised of very overdone bacon- pieces rather than slices, deep fried hash browns, a slice of very underdone toast, beans, tomato, eggs and mushrooms. The tea was very pricey too. At just over £30, the quality of the food was not reflected in the price. We usually enjoy a brunch when travelling but we would not return here.

We last visited about a year ago and hoped things might have improved, we were wrong. Maybe things are cooked to order but we waited 40 minutes to be served a full breakfast and eggs on toast. We were on leave that day but we really didn’t want to spend that much time getting breakfast. My pot of tea was tepid when served, so almost completely cold before the breakfast arrived. Things were tasty and looking properly cooked but not one of my breakfast items was properly hot, even the baked beans were tepid and the hash brown was all but cold, all served on a cold plate. I think the chef either needs some basic catering training along with some help in the kitchen. We won’t be rushing back anytime soon. Sad as it’s a nice enough little cafe and really local to us.

The food is always lovely here but what makes this place a gem is how friendly and welcoming the staff have been to me when bringing my toddler or young baby. I have really appreciated it.

After a year of living in RG6 I finally went for a take-out coffee at the end of Aug '23. Greeted with a warm smile and friendly service and me being a tiny bit of a coffee snob, I was surprised at how perfect the coffee was made. Not bitter, but rich, creamy with a great blend. This made me go in twice more the same week. Today, 6th Sept, I decided I was going to stay and have a late breakfast. So I went for the create your own: White toast with mushrooms, avocado with cheese sprinkled on top and hashbrowns. It was presented perfectly. The hasbrowns were soft on the inside and crispy on the outside - if you like MacD's hashbrowns then you will love these. They are much nicer! The staff are so lovely, make you feel so at home and very attentive. I am glad I discovered this great little local. I will def be going back!

Opened at 10am. Quite busy as there isn't much around here. Had Avocado on toast with salmon. Very important this,,,Avocado on toast should really be cold not warm and with chopped tomatoes., Average.. They forgot the salmon as well .. Staff very polite.. Coffee was fine... I think a 3* was about right.

The customer service is excellent. The lady serving really makes you feel welcome. We had the Canadian breakfast. The eggs were cooked exactly how we asked. I really enjoyed the breakfast and will definitely be returning.

Simple and tasteful. Everything is cooked perfectly, crispy hash browns, quality sausages, and a perfectly runny fried egg! - NOT dripping in greasy oil, poor quality or badly cooked. Just decent quality breakfast. 10/10

Forget Costa or Greggs this place is fabulous! Excellent customer service , clean, delightful waittress and good menu. Some louder tables but alltogether a brilliant lunch or coffee stop. Only downside is its not open Sunday!

I went to the Rustic Cafe with my wife and daughter for lunch. The cafe has a lovely quiet atmosphere and is laid out well with plenty of space.. Service was really friendly and attentive with obvious care taken to ensure orders were correct and we'll communicated. The menu is varied with a good selection of breakfast and lunch items. Food was prompt, nice and hot and looked great. Portion sizes were generous without being huge and flavours were amazing. I definitely recommend the Rustic Cafe and will be returning.

We were in Earley, needed to grab lunch and didn't fancy eating at Asda. So we did a Google search and saw the Rustic was only a mile away.. It is in a local centre arcade, and we wondered what quality of food and coffee we'd find. But immediately we were struck by the friendly and polite welcome. The menu surpassed our expectations the lady attending to us checked whether I wanted ice in my drink before adding it to the glass, and checked that we had no food allergies. The food was delicious, the staff very friendly and helpful and I could not recommend this little gem of a cafe more highly. .

The 2nd time this week I have been in here. First visit I had the Eggs Benedict, very nice, but I'd go steady on the pepper, as not all people will like this. Today I had the chose your own breakfast. Very nice indeed. The owners are genuinely cheerful, attentive and nice people. There is a nice outdoor seating area out the back, which they are under advertising. I'll visit again, but bring my wife, or the next time I visit the dentist😂

We stumbled across this cafe by accident on our way somewhere else and after reading previous reviews, decided to make a trip for a Bank Holiday breakfast. From the minute we walked in, we were made to feel welcome and the service was fantastic. We had the cooked breakfast and my daughter had pancakes with banana, fruit compote and maple syrup which she loved. Our coffee's were made wonderfully and all in all, it was a superbly enjoyable family breakfast out. One big bonus of the location is that there is ample free parking nearby which is a massive plus!

First time at the rustic cafe and the food was really nice. I asked for the full English but with no fried egg but was told I couldn’t order that as I was making a change. I explained I didn’t want anything to exchange for it I just didn’t want the fried egg and I was still told no, I think this is quite poor, and this is the reason I didn’t give a 5 star as I didn’t think that was acceptable. In the end I made my own breakfast but meant I had to order coffee separately so maybe they say that to make more money who knows.The service was quite slow too, although it was busy it took a while to even get our drinks. The food was so nice and cooked really well too. Shame about the service and not being able to make a change this let it down.

My wife and I decided to pop into the Rustic café for a spot of breakfast, we instantly found the service here was very friendly and helpful. We both ordered the Rustic Full English breakfast, we received our meals within 5 minutes and found the food to be wonderful. Would definitely recommend the breakfast here, and will come again.

Just at a loose end on a week day morning so pooped in for a breakfast. Last experience here wasn’t great but that’s several years ago and I think it’s changed hands since.Anyhow the standard full breakfast and a pot of tea for £6.75 was pretty decent.Well cooked and with a good serving size of each part and served up piping hot.Only thing was I didn’t realise this breakfast didn’t come with toast.Anyhow a good breakfast and will come back again.

I visit Rustic cafe often with my family. The staffs at Rustic are always very welcoming. The food us great and coffee the best. This has always been our favourite cafe for breakfast and brunch.

We booked a table for 8 people in advance, from 11.45 -12.45, making it pretty clear we only had an hour for lunch. I even offered to place our orders in advance but they said there was no need. I checked that they did their breakfasts all day, and they did. We arrived, they didn't have a table ready for us. They said it was impossible to reserve a table from 9am. Maybe it is, but we wanted a table from 11.45am for an hour, not the whole morning. They put us outside. Luckily it didn't rain. They pulled 3 dirty plastic tables out from a shed, set them out. They didn't wipe the cobwebs or dead insects from them. One of the tables was very unstable. The waiter said it needed fixing and walked off. He didn't come back to fix it. We fixed it as best we could but it wasn't stable enough to move, so 4 people had to squeeze around a table big enough only for 3, whilst 4 of us sat at 2 tiny bistro cafe size tables. A couple of us went inside to order. We were told to go back to our seats and someone would take our order there. After 20 mins of waiting,  I went indoors to find the waiter serving a group of people who had arrived after us. I said we'd been waiting and only had an hour for lunch. The chef(?) overheard and came to take our order. Despite having said they did the breakfasts all day, when I asked for 'the brunch' I was told that only the printed menu was available, not the online menu which I'd asked about. So I had to ask for the brunch items individually. Various drinks and food orders were placed. Eventually our drinks came out. 1 was wrong, another forgotten. The food was mostly ok at best. The curry was hot but not very tasty. The chicken peri peri tasted of ketchup not peri. There was something wrong with the avocado dish. After the slow service we had very little time to eat, so we rushed our food and drinks. The cherry on the cake was that it wasn't even possible to have a till receipt, we had to wait to have a hand-written one.  Honestly, what a shambles. We were 8 new customers with the potential to bring in a lot of new business, and they lost any future custom because they don't know how to enforce table reservations, or give efficient service. 

My dad and I were in the area, it was breakfast time and needed to be fed and watered. I typed into google ‘coffee near me’. This was the first place that popped up. We thought we would scope it out. I am so pleased we did!! They catered to my vegan needs and made me avocado on toast without any butter. They also have soy milk, so I was able to enjoy a lovely cappuccino. Definitely recommend if you are in the area!!

We found this great cafe and coffee house almost by accident, and what a find! It's quite spacious, with plenty of seating inside and a few places outside. The menu is extensive and very reasonably priced. Staff are super friendly and there is ample free parking nearby.

Delicious Eggs Benedict, warm prompt service and lovely atmosphere for a Sunday Morning breakfast. What a hidden gem in the Lower Earley area.

I use this cafe regularly and always find the service warm and friendly. The food is all reasonably priced, basic, enjoyable, fresh and hot. The cafe is comfortable with nice surroundings. Maybe some music could be nice. The toilets are clean and well maintained.

Excellent food and service.We came here to eat breakfast,simply put it is the best good food and quality of coffee I had.I definitely will come back for more!

Friendly staff and no complaints there. Tuna melt panini was ok. Peri peri chicken panini didn't taste good. This place seems to have it's reputation on breakfast, so I would go back...just not for Lunch

Always a cheerful welcome. Prices are very reasonable food is always freshly cooked although not much choice.They open Friday and Saturday night with a small set price menu. And not in school holidays which is a shame.If I was being critical it is that I would like to see a bit more variety innthe evening menu

I went with Mum and Dad between 2pm and 3.30pm on a Thursday.It is a lovely small cafe. Unfortunately for the owner, it wasn’t very busy, but we didn’t mind of course!Food was delicious and the coffee was good too. We were greeted at the door by a really nice gentleman. He took our drinks order shortly after we sat down and came back a couple of minutes later with our drinks and then took our small food order. The food arrived promptly and was of great quality.Definitely intend to return, would 100% recommend to anyone.

Popped in with friends to have our breakfast after a long weekend.You can choose between breakfasts on the menu which you can add to if you wish or make your own up from a selection of items. The staff are friendly and seem to recognise their regular customers which is nice to see.The portions are generous for the amount you pay. They also offer gluten free toast/bread which is wonderful to see! A place worth a visit and very affordable.

Visited the Rustic cafe for the first time, nice decor and good amount of seating -friendly staff.I ordered a sandwich which was ok but they missed the Mayo and no crisps Or garnish which I think is just a small touch that goes a long way. My husband ordered a cooked breakfast which was very greasy and ok.The menu is extensive and maybe we should of gone for something different.

Lunch with a friend. Such friendly people in the café. Nothing was too much trouble, and the food was quick and tasty. Well worth a visit.

We enjoyed a friendly welcome, good service and relaxed atmosphere. My mushroom omelette with chips was fine (probably would’ve been better with hash brown or toast), washed down with good coffee and my wife loved her New Earley: scrambled eggs, beans, bacon, mushroom and tomato, replacing the hash browns with gluten free toast. Around £13 for full breakfast and tea/coffee for two. I recommend Rustic Cafe for a tasty, relaxing late breakfast.

Can't praise this place enough. Lum is so friendly and funny, kept us all laughing. The food is lovely and not too pricey at all. A firm favourite!

I have been going to this cafe for a while now and I think it is such a lovely place to go for lunch. I have been with my husband, my baby son and my other mummy friends. The owner is so welcoming and friendly and goes out of his way to help. Last week I needed to change my son and he not only opened the bathroom and got it ready for me but got me a cup of tea (I asked for it) and had it ready at the table when I had finished. A lovely little spot for when I fancy a longish walk.

I have been with family and friends multiple times and have always been very pleased with the food. It's fairly simple food but they tend to focus on quality. For example I had a steak and they didn't do the multiple varieties of sauce you get elsewhere but the steak itself was completely free of fat or gristle and was very well cooked.The staff are always very pleasant and polite.

I came here for a Sunday breakfast. The service was very attentive. Having sat down with my wife, they brought over a second menu. The food was served quickly, cooked well, and at a good price.

A friend and I called into the cafe for morning tea, but we had so much to catch up on, that we ended up staying for lunch. I thoroughly enjoyed the vege burger, which was served hot in a bun with chips.. The staff were very friendly, the place very clean and excellent value.

Very good service & warm welcome. Good quality food & but diet coke was coca cola light. Busy for a Sunday morning which was a surprise but the quality of food is a testament to this.

We have visited the rustic Cafe for coffee, breakfast or lunch on a number of occasions and always been very impressed by the friendly service and the value of the food. The coffee is good too. On this occasion we visited on a Saturday evening for the more sophisticated evening menu. The restaurant was very quiet but as we were in a group we created our own atmosphere. The food was very good and the personal service second to none. The one thing lacking on the day time menu is a range of cakes/cookies/teacakes/croissants etc.

We were looking for somewhere to have a late breakfast on a Sunday and found this wonderful establishment through Google.The reviews were great (4.9/5.0) so we came with great expectations and were not disappointed. We were greeted and seated in a very friendly manner and started to look through the menu. There are many different breakfast options but we decided to go for the "Create your own" where you can choose seven items for just over a fiver! I ordered two sausages, two fried eggs, hash brown, beans and toast which was excellent. The food was served promptly along with the teas and hot chocolate we had ordered. As others have mentioned, there is a nice seating area out the back, which must be great in the summer months. We will definitely be coming back to the Rustic Cafe again and thoroughly recommend it.

Nothing amazing. Standard food and nothing special about it. Good prices. If food was more unique and higher quality could be an excellent place as the decor is nice.

Friendly, fantastic service and yummy brunch including gluten free toast for me. Reasonably priced too. We will definitely be back for another visit soon.

There's not many cafes in the area so can't be too judgemental. Menu is available on their website. It is a fairly typical chips and burger type place that also offers paninis and salads. Had the peri peri panini which was nice but came stuffed with cheese (unnecessarily) . Service was great. Customers were predominantly families. Prices are average.

Really friendly owner and staff with great quality at good value. I have been here many times either just for a Cappuccino or for lunch. The soup served with warm bread is home made and tastes lush.

Pop down to this precinct to get the newspaper; stop for a coffee, which is always a very good flavour. You get a friendly welcome and the staff are very customer focussed. Nice cakes too.

Waited an hour for a bacon roll (after being told it would be 10 mins). Once it FINALLY came out there was half a rasher in each slice and if you gave the thing a strong enough shock I'm pretty sure it would have came back to life! Never going back.

this is such a great little café. the staff are so friendly and welcoming. The food is always great - we go for lunch so have paninis or jacket potatoes. and it is very reasonably priced. Definitely try this out if you're in the area.

This is a bit of a find, friendly cafe with great breakfast, perfect for a Sunday morning breakfast/brunch. Very friendly staff, perfect breakfast, coffee and tea.

I had heard such good reviews about this Cafe, and decided to make a visit. A little disappointed that I had to return the jacket potato, but no hesitation from the staff in replacing it with another. A bit more salad garnish besides the shredded lettuce would have been nice like a piece of tomato and a sliver of onion. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Very clean inside and a lovely outside area too. The toilets were very clean too.

Have been here a number of times due to the fab service and delicious food which is freshly prepared. Have tried many dishes and impressed with them all. Our greeter seated us, took our order, delivered our food, cleared our table and took our payment. He has always been so chirpy, friendly, accommodating and flexible – a fabulous front of house gentlemen who makes the whole dining experience and ambiance even more fantastic. As for the food, I can vouch for its great taste and its speed of delivery. Quaint setting with a few tables outside – lovely environment. As for the cost – wow what an absolute bargain. Love this café through and through.

Rustic Cafe has become an essential part of Lower Earley with it's friendly welcome, comfortable seating, outside space, freshly cooked food and amazing weekend evening menus. If you haven't popped into Rustic then you need to do so very soon

Great find in Maiden Place. Open all week for breakfast and lunch but only Friday and Saturday evening. Had a fantastic meal on Friday evening. Service was 1st class and very welcoming. Prices very reasonable.

Really enjoyed a late breakfast / early lunch breakfast at Rustic today. I wanted a burger, with chilli on top and no bun. The staff were really accommodating and it was fantastic (and cheap). Well done Rustic! First class service.

Having had numerous bad experiences with previous owners it's nice to see someone finally turn this place around. The service is friendly and efficient. The breakfasts are cooked very well. Some breakfast cafes seems to deep fry everything so that you end up with a plateful of fat but in Rustic Cafe you get the taste of quality ingredients cooked in a healthy manner, or at least as healthy as a fried breakfast can be.

You should book if more than two of you as this café gets very busy on Sunday mornings. A HUGE breakfast menu and a good variety. Nice range of tea and coffee as well. Very reasonably priced and nothing is too much trouble.

Had a great lunch here. Staff were very friendly and the food was very delicious. Prices were very very reasonable but the place was perfect for a relaxing sunday afternoon. Highly recommend it..will go back again and again. :)

We visited the Rustic Cafe for the first time today since moving to the area. The staff were incredibly friendly and upbeat and the food was great and reasonably priced. It's an ideal place to have lunch or a n afternoon snack and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone in the area. We will definitely be visiting here again soon.

Been here regularly during the day. Extremely pleasant and friendly staff. Fast service. The food is always hot, nice and good value. The atmosphere is friendly, you'd expect it to be deserted being in Maiden Place but it's always pleasantly busy. There's a garden decking area. A nice touch, when there was an international disaster you could buy Soup of the Day and £1 went to the charity fund. There really should be more eateries like this about.I haven't been here yet in the evening. Looking forward to it.

We go out every day for breakfast and are always on the lookout for a good breakfast on a Monday morning, as our regular eatery is closed on Mondays. To date we have not managed to find anywhere that can compare to our normal spot.This place is no exception. Our experience began really well - the folks behind the counter were extremely pleasant and friendly and the interior of the cafe is really cosy. The coffee was good and we thought we had found an alternate place to go....When the breakfast arrived I was so awfully disappointed. The bacon was smothered in white foam. While I know this doesn't really detract from the taste of the bacon, it looks awful. This was possibly the worst case I've ever seen. I must have scraped almost a desert spoon full of white crud off the bacon. It completely put me off going to The Rustic Cafe again.I had a chat to the person who could be the owner I guess and told him we wouldn't be back and why. He did offer to scrape the stuff off the bacon the next time we come in but to be honest, I'm not sure we'll be back.Observation: Why don't restaurants/cafes add a menu item "Dry cured bacon" - I would pay more for it and I'm pretty certain others would too. Dry cured bacon is available from most wholesale suppliers in the area - why not just do this, as it would add attraction to the café?

I have been to Rustic cafe twice now. Once for lunch with work colleagues - we were all pleased with our food and thought that it was reasonably priced and of a good quality. The portions were also a good size too. I have also been for tea and cake with my children which we all enjoyed, on a rainy Saturday afternoon. The cafe is nicely decorated with a cosy feel. The staff are really friendly and made us all feel very welcome and were also very efficient. It is great to see a cafe like this in Lower Earley.

Food always good, staff always brilliant, great value for money. Nuggets and chips for fussy kids. All day breakfast for adults...can't go wrong!

Had a meal out for 4 on Xmas Eve and enjoyed the set Christmas menu. The staff could not be more welcoming and helpful and catered to our every need. Cosy and informal, we had an excellent evening and will certainly visit again!!

We went with a group for a Xmas meal and after a bit of confusion about where to sit we had an excellent evening. We had the Xmas evening menu which was very well prepared - the starter of pear, stilton, rocket and walnut salad was tasty and fresh, my main of roast beef with Yorkshire pud and lots of fresh vegetables was excellent. We didn't have space for pudding but the poached pears that a friend had looked great. The meal (with a drink each) cost 20 pounds each which I consider to be a bargain. We will come back again in the new year.

This has got a huge following in my local area probably from friends of the owners I think. I tried it twice, it's an average cafe in an area where there aren't many cafes. I had a cooked breakfast the first time. The fried bread was deep fried like our hospital canteen provides, not good! The second time I tried the burger. It wasn't a home made pattie served with freshly cut chips but the usual cooked from frozen offering. Apparently, they do an alternative menu in the evening with a limited choice of wines. Red or white I believe, not for the discerning palate. It is clean and the staff are friendly enough but don't be fooled into thinking it's a restaurant. If you want restaurant quality food try the Indian (Rajmoni) or the Chinese (Kei's) which are both in the same precinct. Kei's is particular good, their all you can eat a la carte buffet is excellent value. The Rustic cafe is quite cheap which maybe why it's so popular.

This is local to us in Lower Earley , which is very lucky for us , but it is worth traveling to ! We had a late Sunday breakfast that was served quickly and was lovely.The staff were accommodating and eager to please. We plan to dine here on a Friday or Saturday evening and they are starting their Christmas menu soon, so we plan to try that too. would highly recommend !

Although the information on Trip Advisor says they do breakfasts and lunches here they also do evening meals on Fridays and Saturdays. The evening menu is simple but varied, and the food is top notch. A small restaurant with very friendly and personal service.
