This place is credit to building and designer's teams but service providers need to get out .I am a user of direct debit card the staff have a problem and felt was blackmailed about it for using their card payment device as I had no cash and if I did they don't seem accept a bit high of money . Only fair thing to do is to not go there again until new boss is in place so it's tick tock matter of time

Called in Russell's cafe today Wednesday 26th January 23, lovely ambience & nice staff, disappointed in the food though, certainly not up to the standards of the former cafe in the wheatsheaf arcade, cheese & onion quiche bland & tasteless, chips also bland & like cardboard, which is a great shame, quality needs to improve somewhat, for us to return once again" great pity.😡

Food has gone downhill, things just aren't as great as they used to be! Prices increased (to be expected) but food isn't great. Then on top of the prices which are quite expensive for a Rochdale cafe my biggest bug bear is they charge for sachets of ketchup! Won't be going back in a hurry

With it's original site permanently closed last year, amid the COVID crisis, this old favourite of ours has, after almost 2 years, relocated to a prominent position, on what used to be the main shopping thoroughfare in the Town. Russells was always a reliable place, nothing fancy, just good, honest, reasonably priced Cafe fare, in pleasant surroundings and with friendly, efficient service. So it is nice to see it resurrected in what used to be the shopping heart of the town. Russells in it's new incarnation is clean, well laid out, comfortable, and with good service, just like the old one. The food we sampled was of a good standard, delivered promptly and hot to the table. It was doing a good trade on the lunchtime we attended. We hope this Establishment will continue to survive and thrive, despite the fact that most of the high-street big names are now sited in the new Riverside shopping centre, downhill from where Russells has reopened. Whether visitors to the town will continue to make the uphill journey onto Yorkshire Street and Russells only time will tell. As for ourselves, Russells is still probably the best of it's kind in the town, and will continue to receive our custom. Major Credit Cards are accepted.

Dropped into this place during one of the brief intervals of 2020 when COVID-19 Lockdown was not in force. It was as reliable as I and many others have previously commented on TripAdvisor. Good Food and Service at Reasonable Prices. Since then the News has been that the Wheafsheaf Centre will not be reopening when things return to something approaching 'normal'. It was also reported that Russells will be reappearing in an new, and as yet undisclosed, location. I hope it does. Major Credit Cards are accepted.

We visit here very often only because there is no other choice in rochdale, the prices have gone up again for mid standard food, the service is shocking youl see atleast 4 staff wandering around doing sod all when you go to order food the staff are to busy speaking amongst themselves. The one good point is that people who struggle eg old people, the staff come to their table and take there order for the customers ease, but this week was ignored. Asking a memeber of staff to assist was told they were to busy and she waddled off. So i went to the ladies seeing them every week i offered to help, to which eventually another staff member came along and actually had a go at these ladies for the fact that they are not coming to the counter to do their own order(the lady can barely walk) the woman actually had to tell the staff member not to speak to her like shes a child The staff here i find are very rude the place is way over priced and when its really the only place left in rochdale you think theyd up their standards so they get the most custom You should look after your regulars!

As visitors to the town we wandered about looking for a café, fortunately we found this one. The shopping centre surroundings are a bit bleak but the restaurant itself is a little oasis. The place was clean and well presented. We lunched here and were impressed by the menu, it must be one of the cheapest lunches we have had for years but this did not mean the meals were in any way second rate. Keep up the good work.

If you like really good food, incredibly good value for money and listening to a wide range of songs played on a baby grand piano this is a go to cafe. Rochdale has very little to offer any discerning shopper or diner but this place alone makes a trip into the town well worthwhile. Pot of earl grey, a sparkling water, large Diet Coke, tuna and cheese panini and a tuna salad set me back ...£13! The portions are generous without being ridiculously huge, well prepared and presented. Staff are helpful and friendly and unlike many place these days the tables are cleared and cleaned swiftly. The piano music is always extremely enjoyable with stripped back versions of pop songs, classics and songs from west end shows. What’s not to love?!

Russell's is our favourite stop when visiting the Town Centre. It offers good Cafe-style food, with friendly service, at reasonable prices. The other attraction of this establishment is the free Piano Recital provided at lunchtimes. The musicians have changed over the Years, but thecurrent one is the best yet, with a very wide-ranging repertoire, including Pink Floyd, Tina Turner, Handel, Vangelis, John Denver, Scott Joplin, and those are just the ones I remember. So if you are in the Town at lunch time and in need of refreshment, drop into Russell's, and checkout the music too.

Was very disappointed with the service order your meal clearly and then if you are lucky you get a meal close to it and when you bring the matter up with management I am told it's my fault not ordering correctly how clear can you be plain tuna not tuna mayo . Hot beef with no salad or garnish to get gunk all over it. The service from the staff is going from bad to worse they never pay attention they are to interested in what they did last night or we're they are going sat night .

Nice diner, can't be called fine dining but is comfortable and serves nice tasting pies, jacket potatoes and the normal lunchtime fare. Our granddaughter is catered for here, decent high chairs and a good kids menu means if we are not going to the bottom end of town and eating at Cockadoodlemoos, we will always eat here.On a Friday they have a pianist tinkling the ivories, though to be honest, I don't see him having too many groupies after the performances but it is a pleasant interlude, not too loud but he never plays any Slipknot or Iron Maiden so will never get my vote anyway.Coffee is nice and tea is tea. Will always go back there as we know they provide a decent meal at a fair priceStaff are friendly though not always the most dynamic

I thought I would try Russell's for some late lunch last Friday, the layout of the place is very nice and comfortable, however they way in which they interpret the menu is a very different story . I ordered a tuna melt ciabatta, and coffee, what I received was a tuna and cheese toastie, on thick toasting bread. Surely if they had run out of ciabatta the lady on the till should have drawn my attention to the fact , no apology from the waitress who delivered to the table, and no one checked back to see if everything was ok. I object to having my intelligence insulted I do know the difference between ciabatta and thick bread.I won't be rushing back.

Rochdale is a very working class town and proud of it. This cafe is obviously a throw back to another age, curtains at the windows and a pianist plonking away in the corner. Brilliant and mood setting. The waitresses all wear tight white blouses and the tables have tablecloths - with a glass top. You have to queue to place your order but the food is great, the seats are comfy and the prices are fine. En joy - I did

This was my first visit to russels cafe after reading a very good review on the cafe. When we arrived the staff were talking and we had to wait quite a few minutes to be noticed whilst standing at the front of the line. When our food came after 35 minutes! It was quite nice and had a lot of flavour. Overall we thought the staff weren't very attentive and the food was good. Wouldn't return as we thought that the food and drinks were quite expensive for a little cafe on rochdale town centre, as did the customers sat at the table next to us.

Russell’s Restaurant is very well-known locally and has a loyal clientele, with customers returning week after week.My wife and I have been visiting Russell’s for years and it is a pleasure to see that it now has a Trip Advisor listing. There is something special about reviewing a favourite place in your home-town.Sited on the lower level of the Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre Russell’s has a pleasant ambience, with seating either inside the main area of the establishment, or at tables on the main concourse of the Wheatsheaf Centre.Russell’s offers a compact Standard Menu and a Daily Specials board, featuring hot and cold food, from snacks to main meals. A range of cakes is also available if you wish to fully indulge. Cold drinks, Teas and a selection of Coffees are provided. Prices are very reasonable for the area.Staff are pleasant and efficient and the food service is usually quite quick, depending on how busy it is.A feature of the place is the free music, with mellow tunes being played out on a Piano over lunch-time and into the mid afternoon.Whether you class Russell’s as a Restaurant or an up-market Cafe is a matter of opinion, but either way it’s good value and a nice experience to eat there. If you are local to Rochdale then the attractions of Russell’s will be probably already be known to you. If you are visiting our Town, possibly to see the World Famous Pioneers’ Museum or the Grand Victorian Town Hall, then take a walk up Yorkshire Street, into the Wheatsheaf Centre, and down to Russell’s.

Went in this Friday evening and asked if they could freshly fry the chicken for my fried chicken bargain bucket order and they agreed. 15-20 minutes later I notice the owner put in 2 pieces of chicken which were already in the heated display counter from earlier into my bucket, after that he put in 3 pieces of chicken fillets. When I confronted him about it he tried saying that they had run out of chicken and that is why he couldn't give me what I had paid for. I told him that he should have told me that before I placed the order. I asked for a refund and thanked him for wasting my time. Good thing I spotted him when he was putting the food into the bucket. Definitely will avoid in the future !
