Rupees Grill & Restaurant in Croydon

Visited last night for my brother’s birthday. Lovely food and great staff. Haven’t been for a long time but will definitely visit again soon.

My family have been coming here for years, never disappointed when we leave. Mo, he's a top man 👏🏼 if you want great food at a great price you need some Rupees mate.

Always excellent food and service from Rupees. Very friendly. Been ordering from them for years and will continue to do so.

Food is OK, but the manager is incredibly sullen and rude. I asked for a serve of pickles and chutney with my poppadoms and he took the leftovers from another table and plonked them in front of me. Fortunately the very friendly lady delivery driver swapped them for a fresh set. He constantly scuffs around, but never asks if you need anything or how the meal is. Reluctantly he got me a glass of water, which had small bits floating in it. The place is generally a bit grimy. Overall, AVOID!

This the size of samosa for 3.5 pound 2 quantity. What a waste of money. The alu chat is also fake.

Ordered a lamb curry for 20 people for a dinner party- the curry was absolutely delicious! delivery service was excellent and so polite. Will be using Rupees again for sure!

The food is tasty but is not hot as one would expect from and Indian restaurant. The annoying bit for me was the food hygiene photo frames are mounted skewed and looks very untidy despite the fact that every thing else is clean and tidy. Please would the owner line up the frames as for people like me find it very discomforting.

Absolute disgraceful takeaway delivery! it appears that this restaurant does not like giving a correct portion... see photo! this was allegedly half a chicken ! even other I dishes was lacking all takeaway trays we're half empty! if you want better value.. go to MacDonalds!

I wish was writing a great review. They delivered on time and clearly put in the effort in service. However, the food was absolutely terrible and I had to throw it away. Perhaps I ordered the wrong items. Matar paneer is not supposed to have coconut in it + spices were all wrong + it was so sweet for no reason. Paneer tikka masala is not supposed to be this sweet, and it is absolutely unnecessary as well as off-putting to add red coloring agents. Please note that it does not make food look better, but it does make it taste very bad. Also, the spices and flavour were all wrong. The terrible Tesco sauce is better than what I received. Clear sign that the chef needs a proper training or lesson which can be easily found on youtube. It would be better if you changed menu, even if it meant charging higher. Saag paneer was the only edible item, but not good. Again, it is better to get some decent training for the chef. Please take this as my constructive feedback, I wish you all the best.

Appalling customer service No idea on time keeping and judging by the reviews appalling service as well! Customers who complain do not get refunds either. Not the way business operates.

We waited half hour and now the food gave me really bad stouch ache I would not go to this place again

Ordered a £30.take away on 30th Dec 2022, my son ordered a nan and a chicken korma and I ordered a king prawn curry . The sauce was very grainy.. the order came late and the prawns didn't taste right.. later in the eve I had a bad stomach..my son ordered a chicken korma and he went to sleep after his but woke for work with a really painful stomach. The order was late ! It was warm so I had to heat it.. but I won't be ordering from there again .. I feel.sorry for my son as he fancied a chineese but I couldn't eat a massive meal and wanted something much cheaper and smaller.. but we both suffered for it from there !!!

Have always ordered via just eat app. Food is usually nice but today i tried the so called award winning Achari chicken. Not only was the container only a quarter full it definitely wasn't worthy of any award! I rang them to tell them and they were so rude. He said its the right number of pieces yet i hadn't told him how many was in the container. All sauce and hardly any chicken! I DO NOT RECOMMEND ESPECIALLY THEY WERE SO RUDE!!

I regret not spotting the 3 star food and hygiene rating before we sat down and ordered. The waiter was constantly wiping at his nose with his hand and not once did he wash his hands after doing this and frequently coughing without covering his mouth. He also proceeded to fill take away containers, so good luck to whoever ordered take out from there today. I wish we had left, but our food had already arrived and it felt so awkward to leave at that point :( I certainly won't be visiting there in the future, hygiene standards are abysmal for someone who is in the profession of handling food that other people will be consuming.

Had a mixed starter, very tasty and the main was chicken shashlik with rice and Naan all well executed. The service was brilliant attentive and very helpful. Would recommend whole heartedly.

Ordered on just eat and waited an hour and half. The driver couldn’t find my flat after calling me twice. They ask me if I want to cancel the order or call the driver again. I told them I want to cancel the order but the restaurant marked the order delivered. When I finally managed to find how to contact just eat, the customer service said they can only handle order reported within 24 hours, so I paid money for no food 🙄

Being a great lover of curries I have always found the food from this restaurant excellent and the staff are friendly and efficient.

After eating here for 12 yrs regularly and my daughter and husband weekly I am appalled as to how she was treated on her last eating in visit. being 5 mths pregnant asked for j20 he asked what flavour as he had to go to shop next door!!! when her friend went to purchase a cider and brought her an alcohol free one she was verbally attacked by a rude waiter leaving her feeling humiliated and really upset hence 2 households of good customers now lost

Food was great. The people who were serving was polite. There was 24 in the party. The staff handled our order very well, everyone had a great time.

Ordered a takeaway tonight. I have never had stale poppadoms in/from an Indian restaurant before! Ordered 3 and received 2 - probably for the best. Food very average, nothing special. Can’t recommend.

Rupees is the best!!! Went there yesterday Monday 16th August 2021 with my partner and daughter to dine in yes we went before closing time but service was great The guy who recommended us a fab dish which was chicken shashlik with fried potatoes Tasted fab Thanks Jay for recommending it You looked after us well and we shall be back You all must try felt welcomed And happy to dine in Never going anywhere else but only go too rupees

I have just had the worst Indian takeaway ever. Every dish was horribly beige, too sweet & completely unauthentic. I only ate it because I was starving. Truly revolting.

Had a super take out recently. Collected and no delay at the counter.

This was the best curry that I’ve had in a long time. The naga chicken was proper spicy as it should be as was the chilli naan. The kids loved the tikka masala and the biriyani. Nicely priced, incredibly flavourful and fresh.

First and last time! After a 2 hour wait for food to be delivered (yes that’s right 2 hours) and booked directly with restaurant not through any 3rd party delivery service. When the food eventually came it was lukewarm and devoid of any spice or real Indian flavour! I think they must have run out of curry powder! Honestly if I owned this restaurant I would hang my head in shame to offer this poor service and poor food offering!

Very disappointed after calling to place a takeaway order, after answering the phone they kept me waiting while answering another call, they came back to say they would call me back. I dont think so.... POOR customer service

Now they've opened a restaurant we visit them when we feel particularly energetic (if dining in, don't forget to bring your own alcoholic drinks). Friendly people cooking and serving great food and quick friendly delivery service. Give them a go!

Not sure how they achieve the bright red colour of some of the food. But good as they have no alcohol licence so you can take your own. Service good, sometimes a bit quick to remove plates.

We have been going to this restaurant, be it takeaway or in-house, for a couple of years. Initially the food was good, nice and tasty and the servings more than enough. We had a meal last night, the food was below average and the servings were 1/3 of what they used to be. There was no taste to the food - must have a new chef!!!!!!!!!!!!! - albeit not a good chef. We won't be going there again.

Always eating here with family or friends. Have recommended this restaurant to many friends. You can take your own wine and beer so this reflects in the final bill, especially if there are lots of people. Lovely food, always great.

This place was originally just takeaway and it always had a consistently good reputation. Dishes such as Lamb Rezala and other house specialities make the menu really unique. In the last few years they have expanded their service to that of a restaurant. No alcohol is served but you can take your own. My personal favourites are dishes from the tandoori oven, especially the king prawns. Food is always excellent so if you like Indian food it it is well worth a visit!

I love the food here, great freshly cooked food, make sure you have bread from their authentic oven, they started just doing take away but due to the great demand for their wonderful food they have opened the restaurant. I get all my Indian takeaways from here and would recommend that you eat here too

Been using Rupees for a few years - food has always been decent if unremarkable but service has never been particularly cheerful or friendly to regular customers so goodwill evaporates and when there are other very good alternatives locally why would you go back? Little details like stuffed parathas come as plain parathas. Rupees needs to up its game on detail and customer service.

Been using the takeaway service for a while now, however over the last year or so the food has got progressively worse. I sense the chef is being changed consonantly. Many times I have thought about finding a new Indian, I think it is time now! Advice to others the quality of food changes all time and not for the better!

Great value food with BYO alcohol.

We are not easy people to please, love our Indian food and find Rupees consistently the best local restaurant for Indian takeaway. Not too oily and tastes great.

I’ve used Rupees for many years in the past but only as a take away, I haven’t ordered food since they opened as an eat in restaurant. I ordered what I normally order from there and waited an average amount of time in the restaurant for it to be prepared. The food seemed a little overpriced and definitely more expensive than it has been in the past. When I got it home, a journey of a few minutes, the food was merely tepid and needed reheating before it was eaten. I was very disappointed with firstly the portion size, especially with the price I paid. The £4 assorted starter was ridiculously tiny and very bland, no flavour at all, in fact the whole meal was tasteless and very greasy. I’m actually really upset that what used to be a ‘go to’ take away for me has gone so down hill. I will certainly not be going back there again.

Previous visits were quite good, but our last vist was very poor. Keema naan very doughy, uncooked with no filling. Starters, bargees and samosas, were tiny and generally portion sizes were small. Jalfreze did not include much chicken and even though we live just a couple of minutes from Rupees the order was delivered quite cold. It was supermarket quality or less, at restaurant prices. Just very disappointing.

Have eaten at this restaurant for last few years and since a restaurant now food is great never had a bad meal, staff are friendly and the fact you can take your own alcohol is a plus have recommended to friends they are just as pleased

I ordered a takeaway and was told 3o minutes One hour and fourty minutes later it arrived cold and inedible BEWARE

We have used Rupee's takeaway/delivery for many years, even when it was previously under different ownership. This however was the first time I have ever used for a sit down meal, the restaurant having being done up a year or so back.

Saw the 20% off and bring your own alcohol sign so i thought i would go in with my other half. Although we are not new to Rupees our experiences over the last month or so have been horrendous.

Baffled by these good reviews. I'm currently eating a takeaway that I sat and waited for at this restaurant and half of it is not even edible. Butter chicken is bland and the chicken is hard as if it's still frozen. Prawn rojan josh does not even taste like a curry but a tomato plain dish. Worst Indian I've had in a while

The food at Rupees is fresh made and every dish we tried was absolutely delicious. Try the tandoori chicken and the balti...excellent.

We've been getting our takeaway from here for years and wondered if they had stretched themselves too far by opening as a restaurant. Well, we needn't have worried as the food is excellent - I have truly never had a bad meal from here. You need to bring your own alcohol but that just makes it a cheaper night out. There is an off-licence next door but it can be a bit pricey! Staff are friendly and couldn't be more helpful. Definitely a good night out!

6 of us enjoyed our meal. I had a pashina which is coconut and mild. It was lovely. The others all enjoyed their food. The naans are very good. It is not licensed but you can bring in beer from next door! Only £15 a head including service.

Buying takeaway from here for years. Have tried elsewhere once in a while; being lazy because they not on just eat app... Always come back here. Restaurant is lovely as are the staff and the food. Can't imagine why they would get an Honest bad review.

Fantastic food, great service. I have used Rupees as a take a way for many years now and they have been very good to us with their service, price and fantastic food. Rupees has now expanded to dine in their restaurant and we have used the service with our friends and had a great night out. I recommend Rupees in Shirley for the great food, service and price. so where do I start? I've been ordering food from rupees for the last 18 years every week. The food is absolutely delicious. There are so many tasty dishes to choose from and the ingredients used in every dish make ordering and dining in this take away a superb choice. The prawn, lamb and chicken dishes are my favourite and the portions are really generous. The staff are really friendly and the service is impeccable. The restaurant has been very busy since it's opened, so it goes to show that the food is very good. The prices are very reasonable too and with the bring your own alcohol policy, you can't get much better value for money. There are pubs close by to the restaurant and there is an off license to purchase alcohol before going to eat. You can dine by yourself, with friends or even with family. It's spacious and has a cosy atmosphere, and a genuinely nice place to eat. The attention to detail with the cooking and the food and decor is second to none. Came down to Rupees with couple of mates and this restaurant is exactly what croydon has been waiting for. You can bring your own alcohol therefore customers save money, food is excellent honestly top notch food. Customer service very friendly and really engage with customers. Myself and few friends definitely rate Rupees 5/5. Will be going there again. Will definitely recommend everyone to come down Rupees and see for yourself why it is 5/5 indian restaurant.

Walked into to order takeaway and thought why not have a meal with friends. When we had the meal, the food was fresh and delicious. Probably on one the best meals we've had from a restaurant in a long time. An accompanying friend who lives in East London (where there are plenty of Indian food outlets to eat) commented that the taste in the food quality from her regular eat outs. She said it was so much more tastier at Rupees. She'll be coming down to Rupees regularly when she visits me.

We have just been to Rupees new restaurant the food was brill as I'd expect as had a few Take seats from there, so nice to Have an Asian restaurant close to home can't wait to go again 🌅🌅

This restaurant only opened this week after 19 years of delivering the most wonderful takeaway meals. The menu has been tweaked for the restaurant experience, but any dish "off menu" is still available - and is even better for not having been kept warm whilst delivered to you. The staff are friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable about the food they serve. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who would just like to eat good, authentic, Indian food and have a relaxing evening in the company of staff who will give you the warmest of welcomes. The restaurant does not yet have a license, and may not apply for one as they are more interested in attracting people for the menu than the bar, but you are welcome to "bring your own" (all glasses etc provided) - and that helps keep the bill down too.
