Runt In Tun in Wealden

After an awful experience yesterday at the Star in Old Heathfield with a VERY rude barmaid and below average food eight of us went to the Runt in Tun for my birthday lunch. I cannot praise the waiter and food enough. We will definitely be back

This is an excellent pub with good pints and honest chips. The atmosphere in here is excellently British which adds to its charm. The outside area is amazing with all the games such as pool to keep you occupied with friends. However, my one complaint is please put the Jägermeister in the fridge!!!! Other than that I recommend this pub to all :)

Sunday lunch. Really, really good food at very reasonable prices - vegetables were perfectly cooked. Plenty on the plate. Great, friendly staff.

Arrived at 12.30 and asked for lunch menus, the owner ( I assume) looked a bit panicked and said “I’ll have to check with the chef!!’ I mean 12.30?.. he returns to say we could have the ‘outside’ menu. The garden was lovely and we settled down to make our choices. One is gluten free and she asked for the options ‘we don’t have any’ followed by ‘I suggest you don’t eat here’. Unbelievable. 2023. Surely they could buy a few more pans. So 7 of us £250 plus walked out and had a glorious meal a couple of miles away.

Had the New York deli burger , best burger I have had in ages . Nice beer garden and a good selection of beers , what more do you need.

Lovely place with great food and cocktails. The tapas style small plate are such a good idea. Big garden as well.

My Husband loves his mussels, the ones he eats obviously. Always fab here, kids, family’s and they have the best mussels in the area and actually France based on last years holiday. Highly recommended and a lovely spot when the weathers nice too with a fab new garden and play area for kids.

We had one of the Runt in Tun’s Sunday home cooked roasts yesterday 11.12.2022 and I can honestly say what a great meal it was. Large slices of beef with a big Yorkshire - plenty of roast potatoes and veg - all served up with a delicious gravy and a smile from the staff. The service was fantastic, the atmosphere was friendly and there was a great buzz about the place. It’s a gem of a pub to have on the doorstep - highly recommended.

The three of us met here on the spur of the moment as our normal lunchtime venue was closed. We enjoyed a friendly welcome from both staff and locals with a good choice of local beers. The choices on the menue had us all dithering as there was so many great dishes that we could not make up our minds. When our dishes arrived the portions were generous and delicious. Proper home cooking at it's best. Great value . we will definitley be coming back for more.

Three of us went here for a late Sunday lunch yesterday. I was so impressed by the friendly atmosphere and the quality of the meals. Portions were generous and the accompanying vegetables were fresh and varied. Really great value at £11.95 and the wine was also inexpensive. Service was swift and efficient. If only I lived nearby!

Visited here several times so far I will definitely be coming back! Staff are very attentive and friendly , food is all home cooked and amazing wide choice of drinks lovely atmosphere, open mic night on a Wednesday night at the end of every month definitely worth a visit!

Friendly atmosphere.great food at the right price.go hungry as the food portion is not small. There is parking and it is dog friendly but do not that put you off. There is outside garden area (with shade) and sitting outside. Food is well prepared and presented staff were wonderful,beer was good with a lot of not the normal suspects on tap.All the beers were tried and they supplied samples = All good . Real ales also normal wine list.disable access is not a problem but the toilets maybe ( call and check). Been before and there is a local walking path so before and after visits ( why not ) .Nice people which helps hugely when it is new to you.

Tried this place several years ago. Thought we may have just got them in a bum day as the hospitality was grim. Visited again this past weekend. I asked a question of a boy behind the bar, he in turn asked the manager behind where we stood, who was talking to customers. He made it clear that he wasn't interested as he continued talking. With that we took our pints outdoors. The small garden bar at the rear is pleasant. The long blonde was warm. We left. No 3rd try.

Went for dinner here during a family camping trip, not a pleasant experience, food was poor, slow and expensive. Also very intimidating atmosphere throughout. Lots of workers inside and outside and even on the way in just staring and commenting making it an all round uncomfortable experience. Overall I would not recommend this place to anyone especially not for people who want family friendly.

We turned up mid week, spur of the moment, without a booking and were pleased to find we were early enough to find a table. We were greeted warmly and politely. The food was the sort you would expect in a good pub and tasted delicious. There is space inside and out to sit and eat, or enjoy a drink. I would recommend visiting here, we will definitely be back for another meal.

Great service, friendly bar staff, clean toilets and an overall nice place to spend a few hours. Will come again.

Stopped by with the family for a meal on Tuesday evening, this place seems to be the only pub open in the area and it was quite busy because of that. The service was great and the food delicious. The king prawn starters we had were amazing and I would go back just for them. We had a selection of mains from both the menu and the specials board. The mussels were really good and my wife adored her lamb shank, the kids had the burgers which were massive and they loved them. Well done to everyone at the runt in tun for serving a great meal with great service.

Slow service!! The food used to come out pretty quickly and was always piping hot... unfortunately on this visit having to wait over 40 minutes for our food, constantly having to ask when it's coming out. Now just been served my vegetables but still waiting for my main course 10 mins later. What a shame this place really has gone down hill ...

Evening meal with family having heard from friends how good the food is, not disappointed! Good food beautifully cooked, the burgers are delicious and the steak and kidney pie also superb. RiT is on the list of very good places to eat!

8 months pregnant & starving we went to the runt which is our usual Sunday spot where have had a few lovely dinners before cannot complain at all! portions, quality of meat, service, not long to wait all brilliant. This time was just extra amazing tho the fillet steak special was absolutely the best i can remember having dining out. It was good size, pure, cooked to perfection & loaded with side dishes. I had a warm chocolate fudge cake for afters & that too was so indulgent & delicious a good size too. I have always enjoyed a nice meal here & Sunday visits with cheese boards out to share (before Covid) but this meal was exceptional! Highly recommend! They’re sticking to the protocol of hygiene & safety right now the best I’ve seen in any establishment so far, the full works to make it as safe & as comfortable as possible. Being pregnant I felt well looked after & safe. There is screens in place, constant wiping of surfaces, one way system, log in email system (so is private too unlike other places using paper option), one only in toilet at a time & place is spotless! Very well done to them I say. Will definitely be coming back for the steak again

I'ive gone a few times already and they're always incredibly friendly and the food is fantastic. I would highly recommend giving it a go.

I have eaten here at least monthly for the past 5 years.There appears to be new staff and or management for the past few months.I am not a lover of English pub food normally however since the changes I must say that I now look forward to my visits - yes both the selection and qualityof the food on offer have improved beyond recognition - I would now recommend the food to anyone

When you enter pub completely opposite to what you expect but in saying that lovely people and great community feel.Owners of pub very happy cheerful and obliging food was delicious and reasonably priced . Will return.

We stayed at the immaculate campsite and and then had dinner in the pub. The campsite is lovely... so peaceful.. the pub is great the food was fab sausage mash and onion gravy and a fab steak ....... brilliant

Had a couple of drinks and a pub lunch. Ham,egg and chips, medley of game pie. The food is good quality and generous portions. The facilities are extremely clean. Highly recommended.

We had an overnight stay here in our camper van. Lovely, small clean site with electricity (Adults only) with toilet, shower and outdoor sink, rotary line and garden chess.The pub was friendly and very welcoming to us all. We returned in the evening for a meal- home cooked, good portions and reasonably priced. Sticky toffee pudding to die for!The dogs were allowed into the bar and a table was laid for us in the bar enabling us to dine in the evening. Hospitality at it's best- We plan to return!

Been looking around where we live for decent eating places. Been quite disappointed until we tried the Runt In Tun. Very good menu. We had three courses and drinks. The food was delicious on every course. The service was spot on. We were made to feel welcome. The meal was very good value for money. We will eat there again with friends. Excellent.

Nice pub with good atmosphere . Good food well cooked and presented with limited menu. My only criticism is the dogs should be kept under proper control, well worth a trip.

Recently took some friends of ours out for the evening and we decided to visit the Tun. We all really enjoyed our evening, the food was amazing and a great variety to choose from. I loved the mussels which I chose from the specials board and my wife managed to eat a whole burger( not quite sure where she put it as they are massive). Our waitress was wonderfully attentive and helped make our evening really enjoyable. This little pub is a gem of a find and we will be returning soon. Thank you to all at the Tun.

Just had the pleasure of dropping in for a late Saturday lunch.

Really disappointed went in on Saturday 30th March ordered food only to be told after paying that they were not going to be able to do us food,as supposedly they were going to be too busy. We only wanted children’s burger and chips,cheesy chips scampi and chip and ham egg and chips. Not exactly hard to do. My partner also heard a member of the staff say they really couldn’t be bothered to serve food in the garden not a good way to run a business. First visit from us and will be the last. Food might be good but unfortunately we were unable to give a review on that

I have been going here for three years, and it's the best Roast dinner in two towns. Best to book as gets busy as only a small restaurant although you can eat in the bar and weather permitting in the garden.

I may be a bit biased with my report as my eldest son works here and when we called he was very busy serving in the bar. The car park was packed and the pub pretty full which only indicates the popularity of this pub with both passing trade and locals. We had a cold drink, a sandwich ( which normally comes with chips - but we declined as we were eating a main meal later ) and a coffee to wash it down. The sandwiches were freshly made and we had to wait a short while as the kitchen was clearly busy preparing meals for others . The meals that we saw being served looked very good and generously portioned - I think most diners would not leave feeling hungry. The atmosphere in the pub is lively with locals chatting away across the bar, and music playing in the background made conversation easy. Dare I say it - if you are in this lovely area of East Sussex - don't give this lovely pub a miss. Highly recommended

The food here was really tasty, I had Garlic Prawns which were superb followed by Bangers and Mash which was equally as tasty. Great little find with reasonable prices. Added bonus is that they are dog friendly in the bar area.

First time visit for my husband and I to the pub despite having lived in the area for years. We phoned at lunchtime and booked a table for two. When we arrived we were greeted with a smile. We were shown to our table almost straight away and the atmosphere was vibrant and happy. The service was excellent and so was the food. 2 x roast chicken dinner's, hot tasty and plentiful. Made a little room for dessert which was also delicious. Price wise, excellent value for money. Would recommend and will definitely return.

We have been are various times during the year. The welcome is always warm. The food is very well presented and priced. My only wish is that there was a pasta dish of some kind but all in all I highly recommend this place.

What a marvellous day spent relaxing in the beautiful gardens at the runt in tun. Whilst enjoying this Indian summer we decided to pop down to this nearby pub for lunch.

We have just had Sunday lunch and I can honestly say it's the best I've ever had. Tender tasty roast beef plenty of it and beautifully cooked with lovely veg and all served piping hot. Oh and the extra gravy was so welcome. My husband said it was the closest to my roast he's ever had and left a clean plate!! Well done and very friendly staff.

Group of us walked part of the cuckoo trail and stopped off at this pub for lunch. Pub is quite small but cosy. Had booked for lunch to eat in pub but as not much room chose to eat in the garden which had plenty of seating. If you have kids, has a great playground. Between us had cheese burgers, Game pie, ploughman’s & bacon baguette. Everyone was happy.

On a walk from Horam to Heathfield and were in need of a drink when we came across this pub! A very welcome sight. Not only was the landlord very welcoming, he advised us on an easier walking route back to our campsite. On top of that we had an excellent lunch, very fresh food, nicely cooked and excellent value. Service was excellent too. I only wished we lived nearer!!!!

Popped in with the family after a great le marche. What a great finish to a lovely day. The kids played happily in the garden and we rested our feet.

Popped into local pub whilst on a walk with family & friends. We had a smashing day planned in celebration of my partners birthday. There was 8 adults 4 kids & a baby. Anyway, after ordering drinks at 12:10pm the plan was to have a lovely lunch & I was going to get the birthday cake out after we’ve eaten which the kids were going to present her with. At that stage the landlord said no lunch today as we are in preparation for then bank holiday weekend as this is a busy period for us! You can guess I was disappointed as well as all the group. Anyway, sitting in the garden we then see other families/couples come out with knife and folk in hand followed shorty after with a plate a food delivered! We approached the landlord who said food was being ordered but not for a large group even though we said we would order in 4 groups, just like we did for the drinks.

Saw this pub whilst on a walk with family and friends and thought it would be great for a lunchtime bite and drink. There were 14 of us but were advised food wasn’t being served so we settled just for a drink.

Stopped at this pub after a lovely walk with family and friends. We all ordered drinks separately and asked for a menu. Unfortunately the landlord advised us, due to the up and coming bank holiday weekend rush, no food was being served. We all made our way to the garden.

We had heard how lovely this pub was for food so we booked a table a few days ago and went to try for ourselves. Well I must say we were all very pleased with our lunches and the service was lovely too. We were glad we booked as it was very busy, so it was nice to have our table waiting for us. On the down side a member of the public was kicking off at the staff because they couldn't get a table, I must say the manager dealt with it well. It turned out a group of 14 people had turned up to eat without booking, quite funny really as the pub was tiny with only a few tables. A big thank you to the staff for a fabulous lunch.

We was very impressed with our trip to The Runt in Tun. We went along for a late lunch (they serve lunch till 2:30) and the barman & waiter was very helpful & his recommendations were fantastic.

Small adult only campsite with basic but very clean amenities; perfect if you like some peace & quiet Pub was excellent - very hospitable & friendly landlord, good wholesome food at very reasonable prices & good beer. Would definitely come back

Thank you so much you wonderful people who work here! Came here with three generations of family for a meal and drinks. Great play area for the kids, the most genuinely friendly and accommodating service that I have seen for ages by staff that seemed genuinely happy to work there, lovely food, very fair prices. Lovely experience, they were so very very lovely, our every wish was catered for, the whole time we felt like we were treated as individuals and not just another customer on a very busy Saturday evening. Thanks so much, it was a great family experience!

We've recently returned from North Germany and our friends over there said that they were coming to the UK and would like to visit The Runt in Tun, so I telephoned Andy and made bookings for the four of us in our two motohomes.

We went here for Sunday lunch but in the end we all had something from the menu. The menu is very good for a pub restaurant with a wide selection and a good choice of vegetarian and gluten free food. The staff are friendly and very helpful especially if you have a food allergy to help you with the menu a good selection of drinks and gluten free beer. It is a clean with a Beer garden it is a pleasant place to spend a afternoon children and dog friendly and it’s a reasonable price I will definitely be going back

We visited this pub as a half way stop whilst meeting friends and were very pleased with the food and the service. Lovely quirky pub definitely worth a stop.

This is a very personal viewpoint of our recent short stay on the small campsite behind the pub - I am sure many people love the place which seemed to be the case when we arrived after a long journey and the pub was very busy with diners and drinkers on a Sunday afternoon.

Very friendly little pub. Food is basic but good value. Staff all seemed very nice. Car park is pretty small and it soom fills up. I would go back though.

we decided to pop in for lunch and was greeted with a warm welcome and was made to feel a valued customer, the menu is very good and value for money, the service was quick and the food was fantastic, we will be going back again also the sunday roast is well known locally.

My wife and I visited on a Saturday evening after some respectable recommendations from some of the locals. We had visited the pub some while back and the food was reasonable. However, on this occasion we were very disappointed as the food was very bland and not very well presented. I ordered a steak and kidney pudding and instead received a steak and kidney pie! Perhaps the staff did not know the difference and additionally, the meat was not chunks of beef as it should be rather a bland almost mince type in gravy. Needless to say we shall not be returning.

We went to this pub for a meal one evening, were looking for something different to our usual place, and we found it. It is a small quaint pub in the countryside. Very friendly, couldnt wish for better service and the main and dessert were lovely. I ordered a pudding that had caramel sauce, being diabetic I ask for the sauce to be left off. The staff member came back from the kitchen and said that the pudding would be rather dry without the sauce and suggested something, which of course suited me much better, and I thought this was really excellent service.Would recommend this pub, but you need to book.

Standard pub grub, well cooked and not overpriced, but puddings unimaginative. Friendly service. Drinks can be pricey.

Visited on a Saturday lunchtime. A few of regulars but no other diners until fairly late on. Very welcoming and staff keen to please. Food very good and served hot. Nothing particularly outstanding but I would certainly go again.

Wednesday,we arrived at 330 we had beer,then asked if we could have food,the chap said kitchen closed,but he can make a sandwich,Well the sandwiches we both had were amazing,with chips which were cooked to perfection! The staff were great and friendly,so we decided to stay for the night in the camper van , had a great time facilities were brilliant, overall,thanks to everyone there, five stars are not enough .We give you 7

We have visited a few few times now and as usual the food is amazing the pies are the best this time we also stayed on the campsite very clean and well looked after this is our favourite place for our nights out with our friends love it xxx

This Restaurant also has a small campsite for Tents, Caravans and Motorhomes with advance contact obligatory. It is run by Andy and Martin who are very welcoming and helpfull. The Food is good pub food with local fish and meat very well prepared. All the Grass pitches have electrics, and there is a separate level area for Tents. TheToilet and Shower are basic, but with good hot water. Heathfield is in the middle surrounded by The Bluebell Railway, Royal Tunbridge Wells, Eastbourne, Beachy Head etc. I had trouble with my Sat-Nav, taking me south of Horam.I later used Co-ordinates which took me to my actual pitch..Outside the Sign is an Undersized Pig in a Small Barrel. We enjoyed our visit and will return.

Went on a Monday, kitchen closed, went back few days later, decided to sit outside in the garden. The garden and children's play area is in a very elavated position and their wasn't waiter service for drinks making it very awkward up and down so many steps. Our food was brought out to us, 6 different meals were all just ok really.

Lovely pub, as a regular visitor I can confirm the quality of the food is always excellent. The burger is especially good, comes with lots of relish is extremely tasty. Lovely pub to stop at.

It was our first visit to the area and stopped ad hoc, the pub looked welcoming from the outside which is always a good sign. The pub boasts a large bear garden and patio area.On arrival we were met with a warm welcome and found a table. First impression was that the décor was a bit dated and in need of a spruce up but the menu looked promising with all the old pub grub favourites, a few more imaginative dishes and a specials board.We chose pork chop with a creamy cider sauce and the Sussex Smokey. The food was lovely and very reasonable in price.The beer was very good as was my large glass of merlot, again reasonably priced.The service was very good and cheerful.We shall return when next in the area as it was great value for money.

My friend asked me if I would like to come with them to go somewhere, but we ended up going to Runt in Tun for our Sunday lunch. She called the restaurant for reservation as most of the time it's busy in there. It opens 12:00 noon but we came early so we had to wait for a few minutes. It was a busy day for them as the restaurant was full. We ordered our foods and waited for it while we were enjoying the cheese and crackers. We enjoyed our meals and we had a good time. I'm glad I accepted her invitation.
