We popped in mid afternoon and after looking at the enticing menu decided to have food, the vegetable, chickpea and apricot tagine for me and my partner had the chicken and chorizo linguine. We both really enjoyed our food and then shared the poached rhubarb and custard. Everything about the restaurant was enjoyable, the history and ambience of the place, the service, music, and choice of food on offer. Very relaxing, professionally run and obviously very high standards all round. We didn't eat in the restaurant but sat by the wonderful huge fireplace with the inscription from the 1600s - apparently the building incorporates the farmhouse that used to belong to Oliver Cromwell's secretary. This may be apocryphal, but the building is certainly very attractive and I'm looking forward to returning and sitting outside when the weather is warmer.

All the staff was very friendly, welcoming and kind, the food here is nice, beautiful and cozy setting, overall a very wonderful experience and I surely do recommend.

Pre booked a table for afternoon tea on a Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately the experience was completely lacking in any service. Waited 20minutes at our table to be acknowledged, this only happened because the extremely loud swearing table behind us broke a glass and we were finally noticed looking lost with an empty table. Our tea order was taken and told waitress would return to explain the afternoon tea. I requested no salmon but told this wasn’t possible. However a complete replacement tea was given to a nearby table following the glass incident. One of the teas ordered wasn’t available however only told when everyone else’s teas was finally delivered. No help or knowledge from waitress when asking for an alternative, told to look at the menu. A stale afternoon tea arrived. Had trouble cutting scones as they were like crumbly biscuits. Cakes were nothing special & also tasted stale. One of our party had to in total get up and locate a waiter four times to get additional drinks, even when we asked for the bill, it was finally dumped on the table. Twenty minutes later we queued by reception so we could finally pay and thankfully leave. We asked for the service charge to be removed from the bill, this wasn’t even questioned why. It was if the staff just didn’t care. First time I’ve ever left an afternoon tea to make myself some else to eat and drink.

Wow what a great find, great food and ambience. Had a great lunch here, service brilliant and staff very friendly. Reasonable prices for great quality food. I visit many pubs and this food and place was such a pleasant experience.

Enjoyed this afternoon very much ,the only problem was that it is not disabled friendly took my 3 wheel walker with me, but steps to the front made it almost impossible to enter, needs a ramp to the entrance

Lovely food and very nice atmosphere. What stands out, though, is how lovely the staff are. Our waitress, Olivia, was superb. Nothing was too much trouble. Is highly recommend Rump and Wade and congratulate them on the quality of their staff.

The menu is limited I had the steak, chewy a pile of rocket chips in a bucket and an alleged slow cooked tomato. Really just a half of tomato that had been cooked for a minute. Way too expensive absolute waste of money.

This was a fabulous Christmas lunch for our family of six. I had the soup, turkey and cheesecake. They were all brilliant. Even one of the cracker jokes was new to me. The parking was easy, the atmosphere was welcoming, the decor was good, the tree was shimmering, the staff were great, even the toilets were inhabitable. Highly recommended !!!

We met up with friends, as planned, for a festive supper pre-Christmas (a Saturday) and had a FAB time. All team members were super busy but always had a smile and the three-course festive menu did not disappoint; we all thought our main course (we all chose turkey) was particularly good - a generous portion of everything, the vegetables were really tasty and it was all served piping hot. Super table decorations and unusual, fun and sustainable table decorations too. Thank you Team Rump & Wade from the four of us.

This restaurant needs to decide what it really it! It sets its marketing as a bistro, but it rarely delivers food as good as the price dictates. This weekend myself and my friend were eating in the restaurant (we were put in a small booth to the other side of the bar - which was fine and still considered the restaurant) But... two families were allowed to have their dogs sit with them while they ate!!!!! Now, the dogs were well behaved, but, I am allergic! If this was a food alergy people would be questioned about it, but at no point were people asked if this was fine with them. Also if it set itself up as a dog friendly pub I wouldnt have been surprised...But a slightly overpriced (for the caliber of food) Bistro!!!! Its a shame really, your staff are lovely, but whenever I come in and "try again" with Rump and Wade I always leave disappointed

I took my wife here for her birthday, just the two of us. This restaurant is probably the best place in Stevenage for a quality experience. The food, service, and ambience are top notch. Our evening was made even better by Drew, our waitress, who was very pleasant and professional.

We went for dinner before going to the theatre. We got there at 5.00 pm on a Saturday, and were a bit worried that it would be empty, but there were plenty of people there, creating a nice atmosphere. Good quality food and the service was just right, so we were very pleased. Special mention for Amanda the supervisor / manager who was really nice to talk to and very good at her job !

A lovely smart brasserie at the Cromwell Hotel in Stevenage Old Town! Friendly, smartly dressed and attentive staff and a lovely relaxed ambience I had the delicious rib-eye steak with some lovely new potatoes that the Chef did specially! I can also recommend the very tasty creamy peppercorn sauce! Finished off with some mint choc-chip ice-cream and a nice pot of tea! The restaurant serves breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner inc Sunday Roasts and is well worth a visit!

We visited for a bottomless brunch experience for my partner's birthday on the 14th October. The staff were just absolutely brilliant! Special shout out to Drew, Martin and Talyia who were just brilliant. The breakfast was really delicious and we were so well looked after. I mentioned it was my partner's birthday in passing and they went the extra mile to bring out a cake with sparkler and sang happy birthday which was an incredible touch! I would definitely recommend!!

The food was fine, it was the supervisor at the end. I always tip the waitress but I dont like to be told how much, it is my decision. My friends and I paid our bill, added our tip. We were then stopped before leaving by the supervisor in full ear shot of the restaurant, front door and bar and told we had underpaid and could we pay the difference. Bascially we had paid less than the service charge, we were embarrassed, it was humilating and totally unnecessary. This service charge is an american thing that is creeping over here. Many people get minimum wage and work just as hard as waitresses, but we always tip. Its awful we are now told how much as well - so be warned, i will not be returning!!!!

If you enjoy good food and customer service AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Our 2nd visit, the first being the weekend it opened in which case we made allowances for poor service and food. However it has only got worse, was considering The Cromwell for Christmas Day lunch with the family however found out it will be in Rump & Wade, will be cancelling those plans for definite. If I could 0 stars or even minus this venue qualifies.

Went for Sunday lunch with friends. Lovely classy comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. Lots of options on menu for those that didn't want a roast, but I did and it was a cut above many other places I have been to. Meat portion was generous and melted in the mouth, potatoes crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. Couldn't fault any of it, all well cooked and tasty. Excellent value, 3 courses for £24 which is rarely available at most places on a Sunday. Good varied menu with something for everyone. Excellent attentive service from friendly staff. Will definitely return.

I went to rump and wade yesterday with my daughter and two year old granddaughter, we all had a delicious hot chocolate with cream, the guys that were on duty were very happy,kind and curtious ,they couldn't do enough for us and one of them even made a smiley face with cream and marshmallows on the little one's hot chocolate and interacted with her beautifully, I highly recommend rump and wade and they're wonderful staff!

Friendly service on arrival. We had issues with the food. They were servicing a wedding in the attached hotel & the kitchen may have been stretched. The avocado, bacon & smoked chicken starter arrive without any avocado & the stick pork ribs arrived without any sticky coating. The ribs were soggy & appeared to have bene microwaved in the sous vide bag & then served without the coating being applied & baked off. My wife's steak & was excellent & both servings of fries were not fatty & tasty. The Malbec wine which is usually quite rounded had a raw edge to it.

I visited for afternoon tea, there were eight of us, and it was my sister's hen do. They took our order for our teas, but they didn't come for a long while (over 29 mins). We had to ask for milk and strainers so we could drink the tea, and two of the teas didn't come until I had asked for them 3 times! No one asked at any time if we needed anything, or checked if we were ok, and the staff were really really inattentive. The whole of our party commented that the service was poor. Having said that, the food was delicious and very well presented. They had a very good selection of sandwiches for 3 vegetarians in the group, and all of us found the scones delightful and the cake selection unusual and heavenly! But the lack of service slightly spoiled the whole experience for my sister on her hen. Then to add to it, a 10% service charge was automatically added! Bottom line: I personally wouldn't return, because of the experience as a whole, but I couldn't fault the food.
