Rumi's in County Durham

Do not order a takeaway from here. First time our order was over a hour late and cold second time I canceled after waiting 90 mins. Absolute joke

Feeling peckish after a long day driving round the county, we stopped by chance here on the way back to our hotel. It was a bit quiet but we discovered a large party was due in shortly. The owner made us welcome and organised everything so we were almost finished by the time the party started to arrive. He did well considering he appeared to be a bit short staffed when we arrived. The food was delicious but unfortunately we couldn't manage to eat it all. Full and satisfied!

Nice restaurant inside, friendly staff, nice service. Food was good quality and good portion size. Bring your own booze, so don’t forget the beer!

I have restaurant quite regularly and for takeaways. I also recommended them to friends and neighbours and even gave them a five star review on trip advisor. However since they started bombarding me with unsolicited text messages I've stopped using the restaurant and takeaway and have advised my friends to do the same. There are already warnings on local Facebook pages telling people not to use Rumi under any circumstances as they will abuse personal details without permission and bombard you with unsolicited texts. On arrival we were informed that we couldn’t have a dine in experience but Lucy, the extremely nice waitress, spoke to the boss and allowed us to stay. She then made the evening even better by trying to teach us some local sayings. Needless to say we were no good at them but she was much better with the Australian slang we taught her. She made the night very enjoyable and the food was fantastic - such a good feed, it was perfect. Thanks for a great night Lucy and being a great hostess for us we really appreciate your hard work.

Tried rumis again as it’s local, last time it was cold this time it did arrive quickly and hot but chicken tikka was too creamy that’s all you could taste! Popadoms were greasy the whole meal was tasteless £34 for 2 meals is expensive I expected more.

We have had such an amazing meal this evening. 6 people who have very different tastes and wants. All of them catered for. Our waitress Lucie has been the highlight of our evening. What a wonderful young woman. We can talk all day about how great quality the food is and how much the food is better than I have had in a very long time; but what stole the show for us tonight was Lucie. She is the sweetest and most lovely waitress we have ever come across. What a credit to a restaurant that has amazing food. I love it here. I love the atmosphere and the friendliness. So happy we took mother here. Just lovely and all of us are so happy thank you all for a wonderful evening and thank you Lucie for being the best and most attentive waitress I’ve ever known xxx

Ordered a takeaway at 18.10pm for 4 people to be delivered (delivery quoted to arrive 19.38... Which we were happy to wait for). The order eventually arrived over an hour later than the quoted time after making 2 chasing phone calls. Sadly half of the items were lukewarm and poppadoms like crumbs! Such a shame, Rumis used to be lovely and our go to for good food and service but we will not be ordering again.

Ordered for collection and it was on time, and piping hot when we got there. Ordered 3 curries and a range of sides. All of the portions were a great size, great spice level (we like it hot and the madras tasted like a madras should!) and the whole thing tasted amazing. It was our first time visiting and we will definitely be back.

Worst Indian meal ever! Family of 5 and everyone agreed food was terrible. I had Lamb Madras, hardly complicated order, all I could taste was salt!! Honestly just appalling

Rumis has been our go to indain for sometime now. For a meal out or a meal in. But now never again. Off food sauces were sour discolured and bad. 2 of the mint sauces had hairs in. The chicken was days old you've never tasted chicken like it. Dry hard and black. The nann bread was burnt black. The makanhi had hairs in it. It was bad from start to finish. Totally unhygienic even in these covid times too its shocking. Customer service was really unprofessional couldn't care less even though you knew fine well I get an indain from them most weeks. Shambles!!! Stay well away if you have any sense.

Rumi's do the best lukewarm/cold Indian food this side of Consett. Ordering from Rumi's is a roulette of arrival times. Will it be one or two hours late? Only be ordering from Rumi's on multiple occasions and then averaging the results will you find out that it's two hours late.

We were told the food would be 45 minutes before we could pick it up, however, then waited another 45 minutes at the restaurant. The waiter kept saying, just kept saying 10 more minutes. They didn't offer any money off or free food. Although the food for 3 of us was ok, nothing special, the Biriyani was overly spicy and couldn't be eaten.

Absolutely terrible food and service. Food took over 2 hours to arrive and when it did it was disgusting! Poppadoms were stale, curries were bland and greasy, nan breads were awful and the korma sauce was like nothing I’ve seen before.

Ordered a meal to pick up on my Birthday. Ordered a mixed vegetable biriani for myself and was told it would be an hour. My wife went to pick it up. As she was on her way I got a call from the restaurant to say they had no vegetables so I couldn’t have my meal. Birthday night ruined and the rest of the food was terrible. It seems these people don’t know how to run a restaurant or cook decent food. Avoid at all costs.

Rumis used to be my favourite place to get a take away I usually get chicken biryani, they have started making the rice part of it very spicy hot , it’s not very nice to eat any more , we won’t be ordering another one from there

I booked a takeaway from here at 16:00 for delivery at 19:15.It was my wife and my wedding anniversary. At 19:45 I phoned the restaurant to enquire as to where my food was. I was told it was on its way.An hour later it arrived, cold and if dubious quality. Ie a chicken dish with far too many onions and not enough chicken.Never again.... utterly disgraceful

Meal arrived half an hour late, cold and items missing. Rang the restaurant and they were too busy to talk to me. Enough said.

Ordered a takeaway through the app off the restaurant, food will be ready to pick up at 8.15,pm. Drove three miles to pick it up to be told that it will be another 30 minutes cos they are busy. There was only 8 people eating in the restaurant. Saturday night and 8 people in restaurant and they cant manage to get a meal ready in 30 minutes. They con you on the app so they can secure orders, when you arrive your food isnt ready. How can a business operate like this. This us my second time of ordering food from here, the first experience wasnt good either. I though that could of been a one off, how wrong was I.I will never return to Rumis again, if they are still open this time next year I will be very surprised.

Visted on Saturday 3 August was a little apprehensive as not been for a while, no need as the food was excellent and we both enjoyed our starters and main course.It is a shame it is not that busy only 4 tables taken but I am sure it will improve as more people go to sample the beautiful food.We will certainly visit again and will recommend to others.

We popped in on a quiet Wednesday evening without a reservation to be greeted by a friendly and efficient waitress who showed us to a table by the window. We ordered: poppadoms & pickle tray, Rumi’s Special Platter Starter for Two, Chicken Dupiaza, Chicken Chilli Masala, Egg Fried Rice, Mushroom Pilau Rice and a Garlic Naan. The restaurant is unlicensed so we had water with our meal. The food arrived at a good pace and it was all freshly cooked to order. It was piping hot and delicious. The portions are generous and we just about managed to finish it all. All this was about £40, good value for the quantity and quality of food.

My partner had wanted to come here for a while so as we were staying locally we turned up on a very quiet Friday night, however this was to our advantage as the service was excellent, staff took their time to chat about the food choices and strengths of curries. The food was delicious and plentiful! It’s unlicensed so we took our own drinks, soft drinks were available though. Only ice cream or coffee available at the end of our meal which was fine as after the starters and mains we were stuffed! Looking forward to a return visit in the future!

Stayed local in the area for the first time and decided to try this place. Have to say it’s been one of the tastiest Indian meals I have ever had. If u like good Indian food then definitely worth trying this place

Tonight I ordered from here for the first time hearing good things but unfortunately good things never came, the korma lacked flavor & the tikka masala had a very strong cheese sauce undertone wich was very unpleasant, I ordered 2 poppadoms which I didn't recieve but wasn't that fussed about because the portion sizes were very large which is always a good thing but not so much when you can't enjoy the food itself, tikka pakoras were mediocre, bland pilau rice, garlic naan didn't taste of garlic think they might have sent plain instead, but the tikka starter was the tastiest & only edible thing out of the whole order, not good for spending £28 it may have just been a hit & miss night but sadly won't be returning.

The food was every bit as nice as any Takeaway we have had. We ordered bhuna and madras dishes with various rices and really enjoyed it all... would definitely order again and will be visiting the restaurant very soon.

Myself and my parents and my grandma visited this evening and had a lovely Saturday night. Lovely food. Lovely service. People need to give this place a break. Give it a try yourself. Not a bad thing to say about the place. We were all stuffed leaving and didn’t think there was one bad thing to say about the food. Quick food and nice tasty food at that!!!! Very friendly staff who are always willing to be on foot to help.

Ordered a take a way and arrived in reasonable time but was very very cold. Called and might as well have talked to a brick wall. Waiting for oven to heat up to warm it up...... never again.

At 72 years of age I have eaten a lot of Indian food as well as other kinds and types of cuisine. Many years ago I was a Chef in a two star restaurant. This was probably the worst meal that I have ever had. We ordered a take away, to be delivered. We were given a time which came and went. A phone call from us was answered with, "It will be about five minutes longer". Fifty minutes later we made another call. "Its on its way." Ten minutes later it arrived. My grandaughter's meal was both overcooked and cold. My Rumi's Special was ******* awful. Tastless, mushy rubbish. I did not like the taste of the poppadoms and found other members of my party's food poor in flavour and well below the standards of other outlets in the area. I suggest that if Rumi's cannot do better they should pack it in and try other jobs outside the catering and hospitality industry. I wanted to give my family a treat, but feel that it was a waste of time and money. IT WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN.

The food was microwaved had burnt marks round the edges of bowl. the Nan bread was thick as a castle wall and raw, we complained but the manager ignored us, we had a altercation earlier regarding his political beliefs and mine.(he brought the subject up) i feel this affected our food, and the way it came out.

Quiet evening when we visited yet the service and quality was good. We enjoyed the food, particularly the tandoori fish starter. Good value too.

Restaurant was going down hill. Saw "New Management" so gave it a go. No improvement, food arrived late, rice was just warm the rest of the food was hot. The food itself was very poor, not worth the money. Enough is enough I'm moving on.

Take away last night, absolutely dreadful, lukewarm, tasteless except for sugary sweetness. First and last time! Sooo very disappointed.

Waited one hour for our main meal and we were the only two in the restaurant. Food was inedible.Rice was dried up skim on curry and prawns were minuscule.Chips were frozen and to top it all rice and curry were presented in two cereal bowls and I had to ask for cutlery.What a come down as a while ago this was a really nice place to eat.Now staff do not care and don’t even bother to ask if meal is ok.

This is the second time I have ordered food from Rumi's! The first time was when we were with family and we ordered through Just Eat. This time it was just me and I ordered through their own website. The first time we collected and the food was hot when we sat down to eat, this time I went with delivery and was given a delivery time through the website that updated on the app. It was due to arrive at 5:55pm (pre-ordered at 4:30pm for the 5pm opening) which I was quite surprised by but thought that maybe a few others had the same idea as me to get in early. The food arrived at 6:20pm and, although it had been in a cool box, the only thing still warm (not hot) was the meat and sauce- everything else was stone cold! Really disappointed!

Simple to place order Food arrived early and hot and was up to usual standards as I have eaten in the restaurants a few times already. Great restaurant would highly recommend them.

Great food once again, comprehensive menu as you'd expect and some very tasty 'house specials' available. Makes for a very cheap night when taking your own drinks as the restaurant has no licence to sell just to consume.

First order late due to no driver, second was just meat no sauce nor seasoning now third time they have declined. This restaurant is a joke...

Decidimos pedir comida para llevar. Tengo que tener cuidado de lo que come, así que pedimos el tandoori cóctel, había un montón de cosas; pollo Tikka, cordero tikka, pollo tandoori y gambas. La comida no estaba caliente y asumo que fue superficial porque era tan seca que no se podía comer. Tuve dificultad para cortar el pollo tandoori del hueso. Una auténtica pena, la última comida para llevar que nos dieron era delicioso.

I have been to this restaurant multiple times and recently I tried the chilli chicken masala with naan.. words can not describe how delicious of a dish it was!!! Service and food was absolutely fantastic, will definitely be returning soon.

Food, service, staff 10/10 👍 Chicken chilli Moss which was recommended by staff was fantastic with Tikka rice which wasn't on menu but they said can do and cheese nan. Will definitely be coming back. Value for price 👍

La primera vez que visitaba Rumis para mi comida de cumpleaños con mi familia en abril.

Incomible! ! ! ! ! ! ! Color rojo intenso, casi cualquier verdura. NO TIENE sabor. Demasiado dulce (no puedo imaginar cuántas cucharadas de azúcar fueron agregados) Este tiene que ser la peor comida india que he probado nunca, si se le puede llamar comida india. Hago una mejor que esta. curry vegetal Si esto es lo que llaman un vegetariano Masala, alguien debe volver a la escuela culinaria. Si pudiera dar clasificación negativa me! ! ! ! ! Muy decepcionado

Anteriormente, realmente disfrutamos de Rumi, fuimos hoy y el servicio era terrible. Primero de todo, el camarero nos preguntó si estábamos listos para pedir luego desapareció en la habitación sin tanto como un "lo siento, volveré en un momento! 'pensé que era muy grosero. Tomó años para mi marido para conseguir su bebida, él tenía que pedir. Finalmente cuando nos dieron nuestra comida nos totalmente decepcionado, no cualquiera pregunta cómo la comida, la comida era de baja calidad y sosa y las porciones mucho más pequeñas de lo habitual. Nos sentimos mucha sed después, así que es un signo de que la comida es de baja calidad ya que no tienes que de un buen restaurante indio. Llegar la factura al final y no naranjas o una toalla caliente, o que utilizamos para llegar antes. El personal era tan amable y se desviven por ayudarte, parece que tienen todo cambió. Había una fiesta posterior gritos, que era bastante irritante. No volveremos y la manera en que este lugar es ir se cierre pronto, ya que es horrible!

Food was good normally allot better but was massively let down by the fact that instead of the garlic Naan's I ordered got plain Naan's that were dry and rubbery. Could not eat them.
