Bought one pint of cider and one pint of ale, plus a small packet of crisps. The cider was advertised on the chalk board at £5.90. Curiously the total came to £15.15, which means £9.25 for one pint of Timothy Taylor's Landlord and the crisps. Judging by the lager prices, the ale shouldn't be more than £6.50, so nearly £3 for a small packet of crisps?! Something isn't right. The ale was badly kept as well - warm and full of bits floating around. Judging by at least one other feedback post, there's something off with the pricing in this place. Never again.

This was really nice. French inspired food in an excellent dining room above a pleasant pub. Service was good from a pleasant French waitress. Food was excellent and the rhythm/length of the meal was just right. Price/Quality was also about right. I actually feel a bit sorry for them, they're not in an obvious location and probably not getting the attention that they deserve for the quality of the food and the effort that they are putting in. We'll go again.

Great pub with a fantastic restaurant upstairs. A group of us came here for drinks and dinner. Warm friendly welcome and a very wide range of drinks at the bar. We sat outside under the umbrellas on the quiet pedestrianised pavement area - it was a nice evening. The place is obviously popular, it was buzzing with people. We were shown up to our table upstairs in Bistro Bleu - an amazing contrast to the pub downstairs and a real hidden gem. The menu was really good there was something for everyone (6 of us including 2 vegies). I had salmon starter followed by duck, all superb. The wine list was very good with some lovely wines available. We'll be back for certain, Rugby Tavern is on our list of top places.

Didn’t eat there, so this review is based purely on the bar experience. Large party of people booked a table for drinks. Nice little pub in a Central London location - not too busy & with a mixed crowd. Reasonable selection of beers (decent Guinness too, which as seasoned London pub goers will know can be something of a rarity!) usual London prices - ie take out a second mortgage… Now the negative bit. Two barmen (possibly students?) who have to have been possibly the most unengaging individuals I’ve ever encountered. Zero warmth in their welcome; no conversational skills at all & clearly couldn’t give a monkeys. Our group must have spent over £600 there & they put in as little effort as possible. To sum up: get some bar staff who care.

Went in on Saturday afternoon was very quiet. Very difficult to see what beers they have as none of the taps are labelled. They are written on a chalk board which clearly said “neck oil - £7.50” A very small bar man charged my £7.90 for this when I questioned him he said “we have just changed the prices” I let it go. I have no problem with the price but the Surly little man didn’t apologise or give me the old price as it was his error just walked off to go back to playing with his phone. The lamb down the street does not have that problem and I shall be avoiding the rugby from now on

I have been there twice recently . They have a restaurant called The Bistro Bleu which is a well kept secret restaurant on the first floor and which transports you to a different world when you go up one floor. Food is generous portions and Madeleine wh assisted and welcomed was the nicest person you could have to welcome you. Service was perfect and I thoroughly enjoyed my second visit as much as I did my first. Trip Advisor should really have a separate page for Bistro Bleu !

Well it is very blue and has just opened. Three of us arrived for 8.30. The menu is short and varied, good bistro food, fish soup, snail and mushroom tart and a heritage tomato salad. The mains were a very well cooked piece of fish, duck breast served rare as asked and breast of Guinea fowl. We all thought this food was well cooked and presented. We had a bottle of picpoul, the glassware , China and cutlery was definitely a cut above and the cruets delightful. All three of us thought this was a very good addition to the neighbourhood and we will certainly return. This is above a busy lively pub and it has a delightfully calm ambiance and one can actually talk and be heard.

First visit to the revamped and under new ownership RT. Good beer selection (4 pumps - Landord, Pride, Courage plus one other). Nicely redecorated bar the Griffindor-esque logo on the now clear and no longer frosted windows, outside is a big improvement, lots of tables. Also the sun shone which made an impromptu afternoon of drinking beer in dappled shade very enjoyable. Staff were good too. The reopening probably isn’t too widely known as at 1210 the pub was empty and only a couple of outside tables were in use but as the day progressed it became increasingly busy and by six thirty ish when departing outside was full as was the bar area. The upstairs restaurant had just opened but I didn’t have a look.

Wow. Wow. Wow. We’ve been to The Rugby Tavern and The Bistro Bleu since it’s reopening and I can honestly say, we had some of the nicest food we’ve ever had. Our first visit was on opening night where my husband ordered a burger, I had the fish and chips and we shared some fries - every single thing on our plate was absolutely delicious, and so reasonably priced for a London pub! Both of us commented on how lovely the food was to the bar manager, who couldn’t have done more for us if he tried, and he mentioned that The Bistro Bleu was part of the same establishment and that it had opened this week as well. We booked our table there and then, and came back just this week. Neither of us had had French cuisine before, but after eating here we it certainly won’t be our last! Every course was cooked to perfection, the wines suggested to us accompanied our meals beautifully and the service was nothing short of perfect. We can’t wait to come back and try even more amazing food at both The Rugby Tavern and The Bistro Bleu 👏🏻

I live a stone's throw from this pub, so was eagerly awaiting it's reopening, give I walk past it twice a day. I came for a quick drink on launch date, and have came back for drinks a few times since - the new décor and layout is great, there is a good outside area with tables and the inside has been very tastefully done. The selection of draft ales is strong, the wine list is interesting and has some great (inc premium) options. They also have champagne by the glass, which is reasonably unusual for a "pub". I use the term pub quite loosely, given this is about a high on the scale as you'll get (a fillet steak and chips is 45 quid upstairs in the restaurant). We have eaten in the restaurant and the food was lovely, I heard very good comments about the Duck Breast dish from the table next door and I am looking forward to trying the Guinea Fowl or Lamb next time I am there, I had the Fillet Steak on this occasion. One small slightly odd point, is they don't have any steak knifes available, even if you ask. Overall, in an area that has a plethora of good pubs, I hope the Rugby Tavern thrives and I am pleased to have it as an option and to call it a local.

Just off the beaten track, if you didn't know this place was here, you'd probably turn back before you reach the end of the road, feeling like you're headed into a residential estate. But keep going, it's well worth a visit. A traditional bar, with a welcoming atmosphere. All the trappings you want in a traditional London boozer, with the added bonuses of an eclectic beer selection, (compared to most of what you'll find in the more popular areas), and the rarest of things - a juke box! I was recommended this place when planning a short crawl of beautiful pubs to drink in the Capital, and this was our last visit before the train home - well worth the wait and somewhere I would like to return. Those who can call this their local are lucky indeed.

I have eaten here many times but sadly this was the the last. I use to think the place had a lovely charm with good selection of beer and nestled away in the back streets I always found a spot to hide away with work colleagues for a cheeky drink and delicious Thai. This time we went for an extremely disappointing departmental Christmas lunch. Slow service, not enough cutlery so we had to ask, prawn crackers and sesame prawn toast came out with main meal. We all opted for Thai but what greeted us was just awful. I don’t know if the chef has changed but even Sharwoods curry paste has more taste than this. The red and green curry had no heat, just rather large bland bits of chicken floating in coloured liquid with lots of green beans and one slice of pepper. Very disappointing at the curries had no taste at all, flavourless and a bit disgusting (I left most mine as did others). One work colleague has ordered the chicken with cashew nuts. Again just flavourless and sickly sweet littered with pineapples! Another ordered the pad thai (her usual) but said hers lacked any taste and that classic pad Thai flavour. The only thing we enjoyed were the prawn crackers but if you want Thai I wouldn’t visit here. Safe to say I wouldn’t come here for food, might pop in for a drink.

Utterly baffled that people like this are allowed to run pubs and serve hard-working customers! Despite having spent 100s of pounds, the pub owner took a sudden disliking to one of the patrons and turned extremely aggressive to our group.

Visited with friends plus a baby in a pram. Took a while to actually get in as doors only unlocked one side, And pram didn’t fit, no assistance from very miserable bar man. Asked a customer who helped.Orderered food at the bar as there is no table service.4 of us, all ordered 1 after another. 3 received food after 10 mins (minus a side) the 4th meal we waited .... and waited. Approached bar in the end as 3 of us had nearly finished, no apology just told that a large food order had been taken inbetween the 3rd and 4th person in our groups order, so that had to go first. Fully aware we were ordering as a group (Just paying separately so had ordered 1 after another). Common sense did not prevail. After 40 mins and another complaint just told it’s lunchtime and only 1 person working in the kitchen. Not sure how that’s the customers issue. Then told order has been mis laid and will offer a refund. Once again no apology, just a smug shoulder shrug and defiant ‘not my problem’ look from one barman, and a miserable, not at all concerned, glance from the other. We had been very patient and they had a ‘it is what it it is, deal with it’ TERRIBLE

Found this pub as i was wandering around London, they had a Thai menu with some English food also, I went for the Thai green Curry and it was very well presented and tasted fantastic and even had a good kick to it. The beer had a very crisp fresh tatse so clearly the barrel lines are well looked after in this pub. The decor was in the style of a traditional English pub but was very clean and tidy. The staff were frendly and helpful and there was also a good range of bar snacks, i especially liked the real pork scratchings they serve far superior to the packet ones in most pubs. Its with a sad heart that I write this as it feels like stabbing an old friend in the back!We are a large group of, now retired, work colleagues who meet once a month for a few beers and a bit of lunch. Always on the lookout for a pub with good beer, good food at a reasonable price and good location we came across the Rugby Tavern about 2 years ago and have met here many times since.Initially attracted by the very pleasant leaf shaded outside sitting area (on one of the hottest days of 2012) we were delighted by the snack menu which offered a good range of eats at very competitive prices - the club sandwiches and cocktail sausages & chips were favourites. Being a Shepherd Neame house was an added bonus and good real ales was a given. However, this week we met here for the first time since the new management takeover and what a difference. Master Brew now £3.80 and Whitstable £4 !!! In fact the Master Brew was well 'off' and totally undrinkable, it was readily swapped for Spitfire .... but, they didn't change the barrel and left in on offer until advised to turn the pump badge around. The food menu has also changed - gone are the Club sandwiches and sausages & chips and in comes 'doorstep' sandwiches and a larger variety of mains. Whilst the Ham, eggs & chips at £8.50 was well received I am sorry to report that the expected inch thick doorstep bread is in reality bog standard medium sliced and the price tag of £5.50 (chips + £1.50) is just a rip off.Anyone out there with any recommendation for a new venue for 10-15 thirsty and hungry retirees who like value for their money - anywhere considered within the central London area?
