Ruddys in Gloucester

The chips where disgusting.Surely the server putting the chips in the box could see all the chip ends.And all the black pieces in the chips.Instead of focusing on the receipts Someone should be checking the horrible chips put in the boxes at expensive prices.Worst chips ive ever had.Ate 4 or 5 chucked the rest away.Thats not the first time.

I can’t describe how disappointed I was following my visit to Ruddy’s today. On previous visits I have not been impressed with the fish and chips as it usually has a high amount of oil. Today I have gone there and waited patiently in the queue to be ignored whilst another walked in 10 minutes after me to get served before me. Whilst I was told off for saying I’m waiting. I feel this was discrimination as I’m not a native of the Gloucester area. Poor show Ruddys, maybe consider acting with some integrity and value local residents and customers in the future.

The customer service at this fish and chip shop is excellent, as is the quality of the very tasy fish and chips.

Used to be great, sadly service not great. Got home missed part of my order, tried numerous times to call , no answer. Not happy bunny

Usually good,but last nights was really,really poor. Spent £26 for fish that was soggy,and chips that were terribly dry. Their quality control can be up and down but after last night I won't be going back.

Usually enjoy food from here but tonight poor. Ordered a cod/ mini fish/large chips; mini fish order not shouted through to the fryer so put on late/ after the cod, hence only just cooked and luke warm after 3 min journey home. Chips undercooked/ all congealed together, not good for £15, half in bin.

All food is cooked to order with very good size portions. Just the right amount of batter on the fish and the chips were not too greasy, all tasted really good.

Always fresh and cooked to order. Very large portions Often a long queue but they are so organised the wait time is never too long

Couldn't believe how much they charge for such a tiny portion of food. Didn't even taste very nice. Won't be going back, would rather drive to others in the area.

Overcooked fish and tasteless, curry sauce is the worst Iv ever had says home made but it’s just disgusting. So thick and tasted vile. Very expensive too overpriced poor quality food. This was my first visit and will be my last

I'm a regular customer. Good that the food is cooked to order so its always fresh. Lovely plaice and haddock too.Staff are so friendly and know their customers. Good to see this shop still uses masks and social distancing so you feel safe.

Picked up 5 x extra large cod and chips. All freshly cooked box and bag for takeaway. Staff working really well on COVID secure service.

Quick and friendly service. Always piping hot and great quality. My favourite fish and chip shop in the area!

Very poor quality. Chips were undercooked and mushy yet the fish was over cooked. Save your money and eat at home. Over the last few visits we are yet to have a good meal, we tried again and again assuming it was a bad day, sadly not. And before anyone thinks I am being unfair during these difficult time but I have visited at busy and quiet times. I will not be back.

Visit this fish shop numerous times,absolutely brilliant fish is pure white and chips are soft well cooked. Would highly recommend

Excellent fish in lovely fresh batter and crispy , fresh chips . Haven’t had for a long time and so was pleased the standard was high. Queues outside safely and dealt with quickly , good on a busy Friday evening . We will be back .

El personal hizo todo lo posible para mantenerte a salvo. Llevaban máscaras, tenías que hacer cola afuera a 2 metros de distancia, lo que no me importaba en las circunstancias actuales. Un miembro del personal estaba afuera tomando pedidos (tomando pagos con tarjeta) y manejando la cola. Se le pidió que entrara para recoger su pedido de uno en uno para mantener el distanciamiento social.En cuanto al pescado y patatas fritas, la calidad sigue siendo muy alta, ¡el mejor pescado y patatas fritas de Gloucester!

Moved away, but always come back and get fish and chips from Ruddy’s for the whole family. Never disappointed.

Average or just below average. Chips were a mixture of undercooked, overcooked and spot on. Fish was a bit oily and the curry sauce had a weird flavour.

Aburrido, lo sé, pero después de un largo día de trabajo. . . el pescado estaba asqueroso sabía extraño desde el primer bocado. . . genial y viscosa, aunque terminé comiendo muy poco de mi comida. . . , lo triste ha estado yendo aquí desde hace años, pero recientemente la mala calidad del pescado es decepcionante.

Food ok, portion size very poor. Ordered large cod and large chips, would be amazed if the portion of chips was a standard. Lot of money for so little.

Ruddys siempre se queda en mi mente después de haber recibido constantemente lo que creo que son las papas fritas con mejor sabor. Crujiente y simplemente hermosa. Lo que sea que lo combine también es fresco y el pescado está recién cocinado y sabroso. Tienen varias ofertas durante el día y esto ayuda en un establecimiento caro, pero obtienes lo que pagas. El personal siempre se viste impecablemente y se presenta bien a los clientes. Más chefs que servidores si lo desea. Encantador. He estado yendo a ambas tiendas desde que estaba en el útero. Undercooked fishcake.. Soggy chips... overpriced and quite unpleasant. Please avoid. The fancy cardboard boxes do not justify bad food

So popped in to get dinner for my wife, kids and myself. I don't usually go to Ruddy's but on this occasion it was easier, normally I get a large chips which is plenty to feed us all but a large chips from Ruddy's was pathetic, upon getting home I found just enough to feed the kids in the box. Do yourself a favour and go up the road to oxstalls fryer.

I was in the shop when Birty22 came in shouting his head off, he thought he'd ordered a sausage but apparently hadn't. He was loud, foul mouthed and there was a child in the queue, and bullied a chap called Ryan for a refund after he had said he'd left a bad review. He said Ryan deserved the sack, over a sausage?!!! Ryan gave him a sausage and he still wasn't happy. I felt appalled at this man's behaviour, he's clearly a bully and used to getting his own way. The staff in the chip shop were just doing their jobs. Shame on you Birty22. Anyway my fish and chips were fantastic and the customer service from the staff was excellent.

Always found the service and quality to be 1st class, up till now. Just visited ordered food and took it home. When I got home I noticed an item was missing, I phoned and complained but they expected me to put myself out to return which obviously I refused. Hence I was called a tw*t by the moron on the phone. apparently his name is Ryan. Surely it’s not my place to check the order. Ask to check they’ve actually put in the box what you have paid for.

Lovely fish and chips. Fish is first class. Always too many chips but good. Great service, you have to wait for fish but then it’s always freshly done.

Been going to Ruddys for years, but a a drive but worth it, cooked fresh to order but has a good system in place, even better now they take cards

Not my closest chippie, but have going going here as they were the better than my closest one and longer opening hours. However on my last visit, I was seriously disappointed with the quality. They went front decent chips to dam right terrible. I've never had rubber or chewy chips before. It was not nice along with the curry sauce.For this chip shop this was unusual and disappointingIt would be awhile before I venture their again

The menu is good if a bit pricy but the food is excellent and the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. Sadly though no disabled access.

Very out of date... CASH ONLY Staff need to be more friendly. Felt very unwelcome on my recent visit. Glad to see they've replaced their light bulbs, last visit the place was almost in darkness.

Well popped in as needed chips on route home, against my better judgement i might add.Ive always had a bad experience - customer service great but chips usually very poor. They are always bad and have a funny taste. I also ordered a small fish lightly battered - i got something resembling fish finger in size, with fat soaked batter and a tiny bit of fish inside.All that for £5 - really not good!Its no good having a swanky shop without the quality food :-/

Brilliant experience - cracking fish and chips - the bald headed dude behind the fryer running the place is the time to go here - everything comes out good and fresh and propper - good job you guys!

On the advice of Brockworth friends, we travelled down to Hucclecote and were not disappointed.The shop is impressively modern inside, very inviting and sqeaky clean.Service was very well organised and pleasant.The wait was appropriate for food to be cooked freshly, which gave a chance to browse the menu and observe that Fishcakes are home made.With very hot food in our box we drove away to eat, the food retaining its heat well and not needing microwaving.The eating was good. We split a Haddock and small chip portion between two and still had left overs. Good value.But, the main joy was in the eating, moist not dry at all and appropriately tasty.This is a place to visit again, just wish I lived a bit nearer.

I Never had fish & chips in Gloucester for years, mainly due to the dreadful experiences I had of appalling food - so it was a rare coastal treat only. This was until someone at work commented on Ruddys being OK, so one evening we had a family get together, and tried them, everything was very good. Sadly this didn’t last for long as things went downhill, I’ve had Plaice which was Basically a tiny piece of fish in a mass of batter- in no way appropriately sized for the price. The batter varies massively from crispy & light to soggy & undercooked. About 5 weeks ago we had a family meal after a day out, and all the chips were fousty - the potatoes were off! I did ring through and got told it was the end of a batch of potatoes, no offer to replace our ruined meal though! Finally the Sucker that I am we gave them another go last week 5 weeks after the fousty chip issue. You’ve probably already guessed - horrid chips again & mediocre fish. I will never set foot in this place again. £45.00 was the total for our family meal, completely unacceptable - these chips were disgusting ! See pictures below!

Ruddy's has been in Hucclecote for many years. I believe they also have a branch in Longlevens and Lydney. Fish and chips are excellent. However this has pros and cons lovely food freshly cooked to order so usually means a wait in a very cramped space. They're not cheap either however sometimes the ups outweigh the cons. One thing I've always wondered about all fish and chip shops is how they get away without having to do here to standard weights and measures. In fairness to Ruddy's portions are usually much the same. Recommended if you are not in a rush.

Definitely not your average fish and chip shop, it’s always very busy but they have a good system for managing it all and have never messed up any of our orders despite being so busy! A great range of options and I think they do children’s portions but not 100% sure as mine are big teens now and need adult portions!

It seems that after their lovely refit & their prices uplift it has all has gone to pot. Initially it was lovely with tastings while you waited but now not even the cheerful & very polite staff make up for the poor state of the food. The actual quality of the fish is still good but smaller portions )the boxes have definitely got smaller & today the logo emblazoned ones have disappeared). HOWEVER thrice cooked chips (not in a good way), over cooked but somehow soggy batter, minuscule cod nuggets that contained little cod were what we opened our containers to see. Very disappointing, will be doing the extra drive to go elsewhere in future.

Treated Australian friends to traditional take-away English fish & chips and this is the place to get them from. Everything is cooked fresh whilst you wait. Very good quality. Good value and efficient service.

Went here on recommendation by friends.It was busy, which I normally consider to be a good sign.However, when I started eating the fish and chips the fish was oily and a bit dry. I have heard other people say the same about the fish from this place.Considering the price, I wouldn't say the food is "great".

Eaten here most of my life and so impressed with there attention to gluten allergy cooking. Food is always fresh and cooked to order which does make it more expensive than some chippies but I wouldn’t eat anywhere else

As Americans were are regularly deprived of good fish and chip options. However, as we have family in the Gloucester area, we have tried many and come back to Ruddys often. Good portions and well prepared at a reasonable cost.

This is a favourite of ours to use when we come home after a day out or back from holiday. It’s always busy which is testament to its quality of food. It’s not cheap, fish and chips will cost around £6.50 now per portion but the fish is always cooked fresh to order and they are very efficient. It’s cash only as it always has been. The menu is fairly standard for a chippie but the chip portions are generous and if ordering fish and chips twice it’s worth considering just getting a large portion of chips to split between two people as this should be enough. Meat pies are a good and much cheaper alternative, battered sausages are good quality and the choice of fish is also reliable.

This is a take-away serving freshly cooked cod and chips etc.Fish is proper cod without skin. Chip portions are generous, so we always share a large. Presented in cardboard box which is more environmentally friendly than the polystyrene containers.Does get busy, but efficient staff.Easy parking outside.
