Ruchetta in Wokingham

It seems an age since we were last allowed to dine indoors and we had been looking forward to dining here again.Fabulous meal, new dishes on the menu and love the fish antipasto (new) . Great ambience and as always the time goes quickly. Can highly recommend the pecorino wine (listed no 20 if memory serves) - as a red wine only drinker it was an excellent choice if unusual for me (worth the look of surprise on Angelo's face!) Thank you as always!Highly recommended. Booking probably essential.

We were missing La Ruchetta so decided to look at their dining menu for old times sake and saw that they did a take away service - wonderful! We had a wonderful meal, easy to order and very safe to collect. We had Tuna, fritto, butterfly prawns, venison, Torta Nonna and cheese and biscuits - the venison was the best I have had for a long time and all delicious. Will be returning - Thank You

My husband and I loved going to Ruchetta pre-pandemic. The food is always amazing and the service is friendly and special. Since the pandemic, we have ordered takeaway many many times now and can’t believe the quality of food for £30 per person for three courses!!! We ordered on New Years Eve and at the moment we are ordering most Saturday nights and it gives me something special to look forward to and makes my weekend after a stressful week at work. I can’t wait to visit the restaurant again but for now, I am so grateful for the takeaway service!!

Another great takeaway from Ruchetta.....spaghetti vongole reminiscent of a Burano restaurant - so good!Sea bass and steak with delicious chips although we’d have liked more vegetables. My rumbaba reminded me of a wee bakery in Naples and hubby scoffed his tiramisu.It’s always a treat to have a Ruchetta meal and this didn’t disappoint.

We received a voucher for this restaurant which we hadn’t been able to use in the restaurant due to lockdown so we thought we would instead order a special takeaway for my birthday. On collecting the takeaway, we presented the voucher, but much to our surprise it was flatly refused! We were firstly accused of having spent it already, which we most definitely had not. Then we were informed that vouchers were never emailed even though we had the email that it was attached to as proof! We have been going to Ruchetta for years and couldn’t believe how we were being treated. The owner, Angelo, was beyond rude and wouldn’t come out of the kitchen to talk to us directly but just shouted messages via the waiter. As much as we tried, the restaurant wouldn’t accept the voucher and my birthday takeaway was ruined. I have followed up twice via email to try to resolve this and forwarded the original email with voucher onto Angelo but have received no response. We are extremely disappointed with the dishonesty of this restaurant and will never use it again.

I have considered booking this restaurant in the past as their promise of well-chosen and carefully sourced ingredients appeals to me, despite prices approaching London or AA rosette regional establishments.In the event I tried their takeaway menu and ordered two 3-course meals. During ordering I was careful to enquire if the Chicken escalope had any mushrooms with it as we had to be wary of an allergy. I was assured no.Whilst waiting for pickup, the restaurant has a nice ambience about it (although it's closed) with a number of rooms in a converted townhouse. The waiter was very friendly and chatty.I like that the restaurant is exploring the takeaway market and has clearly put thought and investment into packaging, however, despite us only being two miles away, the food was decidedly cool when we got home and this took a lot away from what might have been a lovely meal in the restaurant.The starters were nice and well presented. The mains of chicken escalope (large but chewy), and the sea bream were accompanied by chunky chips and extremely oily vegetables. So, I'm starting from a four because for me there was nothing to highlight the flavours of individual ingredients (veg bunged together in an oily sauce). Both mains shared the same accompaniment. They lose a mark because it was extremely poor value at £60 for a takeaway for two people.They lose another mark because, despite mentioning the mushroom allergy, the accompanying vegetables (in one pot to be shared by both meals) contained mushrooms. Allergies have been in the press enough for restaurants to understand their importance. This was blasé and dangerous.If you are looking for a nice takeaway, try L'Ortolan. Ruchetta's efforts do not justify £60 for 2.If you have an allergy, I cannot recommend your concerns will be taken seriously.

I visit here more often than I'm allowed to make entries on TripAdvisor! This evening we especially enjoyed some new additions to to menu and the special dish orecchiette with duck ragu was superb. Angelo always has an unusual/new wine to explore in addition to an excellent wine list. This has been a difficult year and Ruchetta has delivered every time whether in house dining with the new rules or with the takeaway service. The team gel well and always have time to chat. It's just a great place on so many levels. Thank you for supplying dining happiness in the covid gloom.

This was a mid lockdown treat for us after a very busy couple of weeks. From the help to carrying the food to the car, the thoughtful packaging and the amazing food. This was a high class experience that Angelo and the team have seamlessly carried over into the takeaway lockdown market. Great food, great value and very highly recommended.

Great Takeaway meal on Saturday night. Really enjoyed the meal: ham carpaccio, followed by a marvellous steak that kept cooking in the oven whist we had the first course, ending up as a nice ‘medium’ - still pink in the middle Finished it off with a rum baba.....yes, it’s very sweet but as I don’t have it every week it’s a great bit of lindulgenceWell done Angelo and the team!

Ruchetta in Rose Street have an amazing takeaway menu. We had a delicious meal from there. Venison tagliatelle, ham carpaccio, salmon gravadlax , fritto misto. Lovely veg and huge portion of yummy garlic and rosemary chunky chips. Great for a special treat.

An absolutely amazing takeaway from a restaurant! It’s one of my favourite local restaurants, and the takeaway option lived up to their usual dine in taste! A perfect 3 course dinner to replace a birthday meal out.

We started using their take away service when it began during lock down and I'm so glad they have kept it going in parallel since the restaurant re-opened. The quality of the take away is every bit as good as the restaurant food with the menu carefully chosen for food that can travel. It's also great value too. If you're a Tiramisu fan this is the best I've ever had. Finally I'd recommend opening a good bottle of wine, that one you've always been saving, because this food deserves it. You'll then have the best take away night in ever. Enjoy, we certainly did.

An unassuming, attractive building which is a relaxing feature. Wonderful meal with great service. Tiger prawn starter was incredible, as was the calf’s liver. We felt like we we’re on holiday! A welcome oasis for supper.

My husband and I visited Ruchetta for the first time last night. We have been living in Wokingham for a few years now and have always intended to try Ruchetta. It did not disappoint. The food was absolutely incredible and cooked to perfection and the staff were friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was fab. I couldn't fault Ruchetta and will definitely be coming back!

Food, Service, Wine, it’s old school class with the family touch. You would struggle to have better food anywhere in the world. Angelo is always there to make sure that your evening is everything you want it to be and more. We have been going there for over a decade, with friends, family, celebrations, I couldn’t recommend it highly enough. I promise you will not be disappointed x

Finally got the chance to visit, after multiple recommendations and it certainly did not disappoint. The food, service and ambiance were fantastic, some of the best we’ve experienced. As many reviewers have stated, this is a hidden gem within Wokingham and certainly needs to be experienced. Personal touch from the manager/owner topped a perfect evening... we will be returning for sure.

Having walked past this place many times I decided to give it a go, and I am glad that I did! I booked a table for two to celebrate a special occasion and was thoroughly delighted with our experience. The food was fantastic and fresh, and although it was a little bit pricey, it was excellent value for the quality. (I recommend the crab pasta) I look forward to going back to this restaurant in the future, it was some of the best Italian dining that I have had outside of Italy

Ruchetta was our first restaurant of choice after the lockdown eased. They have socially distanced their tables and other measures are in place. The food was excellent as always. Juicy king prawns with black risotto and spaghetti vongole to start, both winners! My husband had the meat feast and I had the seabass, delicious. A wee bit wait between courses but all freshly cooked to order and worth the wait. We couldn’t leave without sharing the orange cake with mascarpone cream- welcome back Ruchetta! 5* from us.

After walking past Ruchetta during lockdown, we were so happy to be able to celebrate a special occasion at this restaurant! It was our first time visiting and it couldn’t have been a nicer experience - all of the staff were wonderful, in particular the owner, who was happy to chat with us and share stories. The food was wonderful, one of the best we’ve tried outside of Italy and look forward to going back and trying more. We’ve already recommended to so many of our friends and family! If you are thinking about going, you won’t regret it !

Having sampled quite a few of the local collection services, this was by far and away the best lockdown takeaway that we've had. We ordered a range from the menu and each one was delicious. Portions were almost too big!

Takeaway service available Thursday - Saturday evenings but you need to pre-order. Menu has some of the most popular dishes.I had my first one on Saturday and was extremely pleased. I love Fritto misto and my concern was that it would be soggy and cool by time I returned home. It wasn't! Loved this starter, as always. The main was also good. Mayo and dressings are in separate smalls pots. It is well packaged and is posh take away dining. Not as good as being in the restaurant of course but a welcome alternative in these strange times. You can also order wine, beers and soft drinks.

I wasn't sure how well fine Italian food would work as a takeaway but it was actually one of the best takeaways I've had. As delicious as ever. Great to enjoy even during lockdown! I did want to ask whether the packaging was degradable? Looks very high quality and that it may be compostable?

Visited with my wife and son and enjoyed great food served by friendly knowledgable staff who also know their wines. No rush no push just a great relaxing atmosphere where you can hear yourself talk with family and enjoy superb food and wine.

My partner and me recently celebrated our anniversary here on a cold February weekday evening.Wokingham, unfortunately, was practically deserted, so we were one of only two tables in use at Ruchetta.However, we still thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The staff were very attentive and most helpful with regards to the food and wine menus.We have eaten here before, so we were delighted that, again, the meal was thoroughly delicious.Definitely a delight for our taste buds - we can't wait to eat here again - hopefully sooner rather than later.

What a fabulous place for dinner. Great menu selection and waiters that know their wines. Thoroughly enjoyable evening - great food, great wine, a lovely ambience and a team of waiters who clearly enjoy what they do. We’ll be back.

I visited this restaurant for the first time with my son and daughter for dinner. The restaurant is located in a quiet area of Wokingham. The building is a nice old quaint structure and was probably used as a home many years ago. It looks rather small from the outside, but once you enter you can see that is has about twenty tables. The "olde english" style wooden beams and tables with beautiful white linen tablecloths makes for a lovely atmosphere.. We all tried different starters and main courses. The portions were adequate without being very large. The italian staff were extremly pleasant and courteous. This was one the nicest resaturants I have visited in a long time.

Rucetta is now open for lunch with a reduced, but ineteresting menu. My wife had the venison burger in a beetroot bu and salad. I had the Veniison Ragu Rigatoni, and what a good choice it was. The porcini mushrooms really made this dish.We were impressed by the waiter, pleasant, knowledgable and friendly.

We had a fabulous evening at Ruchetta. The staff were attentive, food delicious and the live music topped off a wonderful evening. Thank you so much and we will be back!

This review covers several recent December visits as I can't make more than one entry /month! The new lunch menu is varied and competitively priced. As usual the quality of the food is excellent. Staff friendly. Its a very different feel at lunch to the evening, less formal yet still relaxed with the feeling you are not simply another customer. Dinners were superb. Wine excellent. Has been and remains a favourite of ours for a good few years now.

I've visited Ruchetta many times in the last few years and it is always a fantastic experience.

We have been coming to Ruchetta for years and it is always great for a romantic, special meal. The service is faultless and the food delicious. There are various rooms so I don't feel it is crowded. We have been going to this restaurant for almost 20 years. The food used to be excellent. It is still good but a bit overpriced for what it is now. Worth trying for a romantic dinner.

I have dined here twice in the last 3 months.

New changes to the menu and being winter the venison is back. My favourite, or one of them. The duck ravioli special was excellent. Katrina created a "special request" affogato for me. Grazie!! Look forward to the lunchtime opening.

We haven’t been for a while however with 2 x 50th birthdays in the same month it was a great suggestion. Great service from start to finish, juggling our orders above the Saturday night hubbub. Everything was soo delicious! We’d also told one friend this was the best restaurant in Wokingham and he said he’d be the judge of that....didn’t take long for him to come around to our way of thinking. Perfect starters, mains and desserts.....I want the orange cake recipe! Thank you for a great night, we’ll be back.

Our evening was extremely special from the moment we entered the restaurant,to the moment we left ! The service was excellent, the waiters very attentive and each time they came to our table, they had a little chat, as well as asking if we needed our glasses refilling. Food was delicious, the atmosphere was very cosy and welcoming and the Italian gentleman singing live made it a wonderful evening. It was our daughter's birthday and the staff had informed the singer, he then sang 'Happy birthday' to her. Definitely an unforgettable evening. If we lived in this area, we would certainly be back at the Ruchetta very frequently! Cannot recommend it highly enough !

My wife and I found this place in the rain on a family visit to Wokingham. We got a friendly welcome, and were delighted to have some great Italian cuisine - a nice surprise. We returned a few days later and confirmed our view. Good food, good service, well worth it.

We really loved the food and service of this restaurant. It is a lovely little gem right in the middle of Wokingham town centre. We ordered the carpaccio and beef tartar as a starter - delicious. We both then had the special lemon sole - absolutely amazing. The wine selection is vast. The atmosphere is romantic and the restaurant makes you feel like you are dining in Italy. 5 star service with 5 star food. Thank you for a lovely evening.

A special celebration yesterday and we were looked after so well by Angelo, Ben and Katrina (plus the all important hidden talented team in the kitchen). An excellent evening with delicious food and wine. The quality and presentation of the dishes are what keep bringing us back. The menu has changed recently with some tweaks to the "classics" and as always there is a specials board. The ravioli fritti are superb with a little kick from the n'duja; it's an unusual addition but boy are they good! The fish dishes were succulent, full of flavour. Portion size is always good. Excellent wine list but do ask Angelo for advice/suggestions. We have never been disappointed.

A lovely evening on Friday with live singing - a first for this restaurant I believe and hope to see again. The specials menu on this occasion was inspired; not for the first time have I (we) been spoiled for choice. Great, friendly service, all went well. Thank you all for yet another pleasant evening of delicious food and memorable wine.

Another wonderful dining experience at this hidden gem. There are many restaurants to choose from in Wokingham but if you are looking for something special where they serve fresh,seasonal ingredients which are cooked to perfection, Ruchetta has got to be the one to visit. The restaurant is intimate and romantic and the staff always very attentive. We ate asparagus with scallops (absolutely delicious), sea-bass with truffle and Parmesan chips (the best gastro fish and chips!) and a mouth-watering steak. The owner, Angelo, always discreetly checks in on each table to make sure they’re meeting your expectations. We honestly can’t fault Ruchetta. It’s not the cheapest Italian in town but you only get what you pay for and we will happily go back because we know it will never disappoint. Thank you for another perfect evening.

Following a lovely time last year for an anniversary meal where the service and food was first rate we booked again this year for a significant birthday meal with the family. Expectations were high having told the children that the food was exceptional- well last night it wasn't. Starters were well presented and satisfactory portion sizes. However, the main courses were very poor. I had the pink lamb which was dry and over cooked and not a sign of pinkness in a bed of peas and beans swimming in an overbearing gravy. My daughter had venison which again over cooked, with over cooked vegetables and again poorly presented. My son had monk fish which he left most of because of the odd taste combinations. My wife had the pork dish which was OK but along with the other dishes lacked any flair or imagination in its presentation which you would expect for fine dining and at the prices charged. By all accounts we would have had better choices, better food at better prices if we had gone to The Courtyard Restuarant. I don't think that we would return anytime soon based on what we had which is a pity, looking at the other reviews I guess we picked a bad night! Only two of us had desserts which was the prosecco sorbet which were ok. We spent £275 on our meal including a bottle of wine and some drinks so unfortunately the evening was overall very disappointing.

I've been here probably once or twice a year for 10 years and each time the restaurant has delivered, both in terms of food and the associated service levels one would expect. Would not hesitate to recommend if it falls within your budget.

Another good evening. There have been some lovely changes to the menu. Quality remains excellent. Attentive and friendly service. A special venue. Wine selection by Angelo complements our menu selection.

Lovely Saturday evening dining , good wine and food as always. The crab and avocado stack was superb as were the scallops. I had "adjustments" to my main course (being a fussy wotsit!), carried out to perfection by Angelo, Ben, Katrina and his team. It often feels like a house party here with guests talking to each other. We love the ambience here. Highly recommended.

I've never really liked this place. It's super expensive and the majority of the meals have been either ok or actually quite poor. I've spoken to other people who always have a great experience, so perhaps I've always been unlucky? Either way, it's too expensive to have a hit or miss (miss, miss, miss) experience.

We knew the menu was more expensive but we were genuinely shocked when the bill arrived. The level of service was OK, we had to make repeated requests for things, the quality of the food was fine although three of us thought our main was rather salty. There are better options out there.

Yet again another fabulous meal. Food as always was amazing. So tasty and fresh. Venison steak was fabulous as was the ravioli starter. Service as always top notch.

We booked the same day & were given the option of the conservatory or entrance lobby. We chose the conservatory even though there was a large party already booked in.

Have been going to Ruschetta for years as we live in Wokingham and we always go on Christmas Eve , this year our starer was amazing but sadly my main course of lamb rump was tuff and I couldn't eat it it's the first time I've had a bad meal here.

For many years i’ve used to love to come to this restaurant because of three factors: Service, Food and Atmosphere.

Fabulous Friday evening dinner. Specials menu was inspired. Warmly welcomed and well looked after for our selection of wines. Maybe, being a a fairly regular customer, they knew what we wanted as an aperitif before I even asked and this evening we had decided on something different. Vittorio was spot on. Spooky and welcome! Food was high quality very flavoursome. Angelo and his team are lovely hosts. This is a very special place. Bravo Angelo.

This was our first visit to Ruscetta, waiters were great, very friendly and always available. I had the Monkfish for mains delicious, the Affogata for desert was the best I’ve had.

I came back with a friends and again I was right to choose this place. Mr Vittorio you are wonderful at what you doing you always make evening special your service is outstanding. The food was great and definitely will be back again.

Our meals yesterday evening were delicious, particularly the scallops starter with pancetta and cauliflower purée, the service is always excellent and the restaurant has a lovely, intimate atmosphere. A visit to Ruchetta is always such a treat!

Ruchetta is our favourite restaurant in Wokingham for a special meal. The waiters are always friendly, attentive and efficient. You are welcomed by name and as you leave they know exactly which is your coat and it has been warmed up! We had aperol spritz to start which were huge and lovely but £19 seemed quite a lot of money. The sauvignon blanc was chilled and delicious. The starters of trio of mushrooms with pancetta and an egg and scallops were tasty and well cooked. The main courses of monk fish and halibut were gorgeous,- good looking and just the right amount. The desserts of tiramisu and pannacotta were great too. We enjoyed our special meal for our wedding anniversary but it is expensive. It's worth knowing that they offer a discount of 5% for a cash payment.

went on a Sunday lunchtime and was surprised to find it rather quiet. Had superb friendly service from the minute we walked in. Sat at the round table in the window so getting the afternoon sun. The food and wine was excellent - cannot fault this restaurant. Yes it is on the expensive side especially the wine mark up but you get what you pay for and I would rather have one trip to Ruchetta than several to lesser pubs/ restaurants with cheaper prices

Took my wife to celebrate her birthday. She seemed to enjoy what she had apart from the coffee that she left (she did not have dessert). The starter I had, minestrone soup was completely tasteless I had to put loads of salt and pepper in it to give taste - cost £9.50. The main course (we both had the same) was nicely cooked cod on spinach. However we were told by the waiter that there was plenty to go with it - there wasn't a few boiled potatoes and a sort of pureed splodge that was celeriac I think the waiter said. The cost of the cod was £21.50 a portion, way too much. My dessert tiramisu was fine but again over priced at £7.80. My two Peroni beers (large bottles) were charged at £7.80 each. Oh yes, the bill comes as well with a 10% service charge.

Visited this restaurant twice and had a great meal both times. Nice atmosphere, great menu that isn’t too large or over complicated, good wine list. Staff have been attentive and friendly on both visits. Looking forward to going back

Having had our first date at this restaurant over 4 1/2 years ago, and having been there many times since, we thought it only fitting to have our first wedding anniversary meal here. Upon arrival we were shown to our table which, coincidentally, was the same table we had on our first date! This was an amazing meal!

We chose this restaurant to celebrate a special birthday and we had also previously visited. We were not disappointed! Lovely atmosphere, wonderful good quality food. Very happy :)

I have eaten in a lot of fine dining establishments over the years, but never in one that specialises in Italian food, so it was with some trepidation when my friends & I came to eat here.

My husband and I have been to this restaurant before and have had much better service. Tonight we were celebrating our wedding anniversary, and we were disappointed. The starter and main meal we're good, but unfortunately we were never offered pudding or after dinner drinks. The service was not good tonight, for us - others were offered drinks and desserts - we were completed abandoned for at least 45 mins before we asked for our check to go. It was a shame that their service was lacking.

Ruchetta never fails to disappoint. It was third time I have been there and everything from menu to drinks to deserts is fantastic. It’s very authentic Italian food, I felt like I was in Italy. The service is excellent with very friendly approach! I am in restaurant business myself and know very well what is the best. Would definitely recommend to anyone who loves fine dining.

Excellent food in an intimate atmosphere. It's certainly one of the best Italian restaurants I've been to - the menu will ensure that there is something for everyone. I can certainly recommend the mixed grilled fish - absolutely superb. Match that with great service and the evening was complete. It is priced on the higher side but you have pay for quality and perhaps wine prices higher that I would expect but they too were very good. All in all a wonderful evening.

A superb Italian restaurant - undoubtedly the best in Wokingham. Service is exemplary and food and wine selections are excellent. Angelo, Vitorio and their team are always welcoming. Make sure you ask what the specials are. Fine Italian dining with love. If you find it too expensive, there are basic pizza/pasta places for you not far away.

We’ve been to this restaurant a number of times, and it’s superb every time. Is it expensive? Yes. Is it worth the price? Absolutely. With the plethora of mediocre ‘Italian’ chain restaurants around at the moment, I would happily pay Ruchetta prices for exquisite, authentic Italian food. We will definitely be back!

I’ve been here three times now. Originally visited based on a recommendation from a colleague. Great selection of authentic Italian dishes. While it’s pricier then many of the other restaurants in central Wokingham it does offer better food, ambiance, and service. Lovely intimate dining rooms with friendly staff. Between myself and whomever I’ve been with we’ve had a selection of starters, pasta, meat and fish and all have been delicious

service was ok, food was average.The bill was ridiculous ! £9.50 for a bottle of moretti. !!These are Knightsbridge prices for an average provincial restaurant. will never go back

Celebrated a big birthday for my wife last week, and it never fails to disappoint.

So unless you want your pockets emptied sucking up to the waiters don't expect friendly efficient service. Fish had bones dry and awful cut. Rabbit dry. Staff so arrogant.Fish pasta horrible and stank or rotten fish.Horrible. Never return.

We went to Ruchetta's for a special birthday and as always the food and service were excellent. Lovely ambiance and we were extremely well looked after. Always a favourite of ours.

I took my partner to Ruchetta for his birthday. We had a really nice evening with excellent food and service. They offered me several vegan options as there were none on the menu. The food was simple but delicious.

Food was fantastic and the wine really good. Service was absolutely good, very kind and happy staffs!

Visited Wednesday evening for a catch up with a dear friend. As always we were well looked after, the food excellent and the service impeccable plus the extra banter! A favourite cannonau (Sardinian ) was not available however we were offered the amazing Masi Brolo Campofiorin (Oro) which is excellent. So much so I had to go into the deli to buy more . A favourite restaurant and am never disappointed.

Visited this place while staying in the area during Royal Ascot and seeing good reviews on TA.

One of the best restaurants I know. Friendly and personal service with just the right balance of repartee and good old-fashioned customer service. Privately owned Italian gem in the middle of Wokingham. I have found the service and food to be as good for a party of ten as for a small intimate dinner for two. Look out for the wine tasting evenings!

Good Italian almost family style food with large portions. Two of us had the Calves Liver which was first class. My partner had the halibut which also very good. Good service. Nice wine list. Will go again.

For me I personally enjoyed our meal on Saturday....but then again i wasn’t paying the bill!
