Ruby Cantonese Chinese Take Away in Lichfield

Chicken fried rice - perfect, metal container can tell it was cooked fresh. The chicken chow mein was very WET and clearly batch cooked and microwaved in a plastic container, with the chicken and veg thrown on top to save time - no wonder it came an hour earlier than stated. Curry sauce at £3.10 per portion was half full in the small container. Very disappointing for a £25 meal with only the chips and chicken fried rice of a good standard.

Rice was like mush ,ribs mainly bone not worth the money

We got there and was waiting 15 mins for our table we was before another couple and they got seated before us and we had to ask to sit in the restaurant part as was put in bar area. We was 10 mins early for our table as well. Had to wait 20 mins to order didn’t have many options for drinks and what they did have weren’t available. Menus deals weren’t explained and menus was covered in tip ex and felt unclean and sticky. X2 pints were flat and had to be sent back. Asked for prawn crackers and they didn’t come out till after the starters and was accused of being hostile for asking for clean cutlery. Cutlery had food on had to asks for napkins and had to ask for cutlery once all our starters had came out. BBQ ribs had no meat on and food was cold. Had to go bar for drinks and the service was slow and staff was moody. Won’t be going back. We paid £30 for our starters and cancelled all our mains. Tried to charge us for drinks we didn’t even drink. Manager was rude and staff wasn’t pleasant and didn’t empathise at all and didn’t seem bothered at all. Said they was understaffed and a staff member was sat on their on phone and not doing anything to help. Not a great way to end Mother’s Day was very disappointed will not be returning. We ended up grabbing a takeaway on the way home.

First time in the Ruby for some 20 Years. Whilst we have had many great meals there, times have changed and if an authentic Chinese experience is what you are looking for, you need to look elsewhere. Service was polite but very slow and the food mediocre. Food when it eventually came, was delivered without introduction with staff members not knowing which dish was which when asked. The restaurant itself looks tired and you stick to the floor in the toilets. There are better options in Lichfield.

Went here on Saturday as a group of 6. We'd booked for as soon as it opened so we were seated quickly and ordered drinks and how to order from the set menu was explained to us One of our party doesn't eat pork so they allowed us to order half and half of the meat/veg spring rolls and the yuk sung. All the food was hot and fresh and the portions were enough for us all to try some of everything. We ordered a couple of extra starters that came out with mains and a smaller 2 round of main course dishes. Only thing I would say is you had to ask to order more food rather than them offering despite it being all you can eat. Overall great experience and would definitely go back

Disgusting, I had a takeaway and the food was revolting, I ordered shredded chilli crispy chicken and it was fatty, greasy, and nasty........ I phoned to complain and was told they won't do anything about it. Please just think twice ordering for here.

I was looking forward to soft fresh cooked Ribs, what i got was hard outer meat on my Ribs indicating that they were from the previous or maybe more days..At the price of them I definately deserved FRESH. You are a classy establishment and its a shame your standards weren't carried forward to your takeaway trade

Was really looking forward to eating here for a birthday celebration. The starters came, they were OK, but not hot. Waited 1½ hours after entering before the mains came. The rice was mushy, the noodles sparce, two of the mains were hot, the others just warm. Can't bear cold food served on cold plates, so sadly it wasn't a winner for me, although it did taste OK. The room was cold as well. The staff seemed very busy.

Delicious succulent Chinese meal for the wife and I as an after work treat. Was stuffed after the 4 starters and soup. But also Shared 3 delicious mains and rice. Much better than other places as the food is cooked fresh to order not the lukewarm gloop you get at all you can eats. Would highly recommend, service was exceptional. I prefer a prompt service and piping hot food which is what we gor. All round really good. Very full afterwards tho!

Yet again order is wrong we asked for beef curry got chicken food so greasy and un edible. £40 down the drain . A treat for my husbands 60th never again disgusting 🫣

The chips were cold and over cooked as if they had been reheated from an earlier session. The curry sauce was gravy with no curry taste at all.

Food was ready quicker than estimated which was great. It was cold when we got it home, despite living a 3 minute drive away. Had to reheat it when we got back.

Had the Buffett option. You choose 6 starters and 5 mains. Once you’ve finished one course you can order more, but this disrupt the flow of the meal. Attentive staff but felt rushed. Not a very calm eating experience. For 7 people it came to £235 including 1 beer each. Not sure it was value for money. Expected better 🫤. Lots of choice in Lichfield so will go elsewhere next time.

I ordered at 6.30pm it arrived at 8.45pm. I did call a few times and when it arrived 3 of the dishes were stone cold. I called back & I was offered more food to be delivered out to me but we’d waited so long and I asked for a refund on the cold dishes. I was told to register my complaint with Just Eat. Fried dumplings, sweet and sour king prawns and fried rice. All great. Delivery was early by 30 mins which was very welcome.

Ordered at 18:50 … delivered at 19:50 …. Food was barely warm nowhere near hot … why such a delay on a Monday evening? The delivery man couldn’t get away fast enough; he probably knew the food was cold. My wife and I are late 70s and I’m in a wheelchair so could do little about it. Very disappointing.

Tasty takeaway - really fair price if you go in and collect. Fast preparation too - the food was ready for collection when I arrived within 20 mins.

We visited this restuarant with friends on a busy Saturday evening. We chose the all you can eat menu and had a selection of dishes to share. which was very reasonably priced for the food we received. The dishes were plentiful, fresh and tasty. We were a party of six and were in the front area of the restuarant and the table was probably designed for a party of four not six this was our ionly gripe. The seats in the main area wer circular and this probably would have been better for our party for space and have the luxury of food being placed on a Lazy Susan whisch is always great for larger parties. The drinks were reasonably priced and on par with other restuarants in the area. The waiting staff were very friendly and efficient. We had an enjoyable meal and will definately be back to sample some other food choices

Two of us made a first visit here on Sunday 20th August 2023: from the street frontage, the premises outwardly appear tiny, but do not be fooled - upon entry, you are warmly greeted and accompanied into a rather long, narrow, yet spacious and attractive dining gallery of low ceilings, muted lighting conveying an intimate atmosphere, and to a given choice of table. Insofar as Sunday dining options are concerned, first-time visitors like ourselves were initially confused by two 'Set Menu' choices running concurrently - a 'Sunday Banquet' or, for a further £4.00, an 'All you can eat' option. The subtle variance between these is: SUNDAY BANQUET: a myriad of Starter/Main/Dessert options allowing the chance to sample ten different dishes across this range, only one of which is a Dessert. ALL YOU CAN EAT: a perfect choice if you haven't eaten in two weeks and want to explore every possible taste available, have an addiction to a particular choice of dishes, or simply want to 'Pig out' - you have a two-hour limit to do so. We took the 'SUNDAY BANQUET' option - and were not disappointed in the least. Initial Side Dish of Prawn Crackers and dip aside (we tactfully avoided eating this until we could actually see the portion size of following offerings), subtly-sized portions appeared thereafter that gave us a very enjoyable and varied tour through the Chinese and Cantonese 'World of Food,' Our choice allowed us to thoroughly enjoy a new culinary experience in the company of a very personable, friendly and amusing Head Waiter/Manager - but left us sufficiently satisfied, and didn't overindulge either of us to a level of discomfort afterwards. We will certainly return again, possibly on a weeknight when things are quieter - but full marks for a great evening guys!

Absolutely loads of chicken. On the high spice side, chow mein and chicken udon, but I love spice so that was good. Hot in temperature too and can’t fault the order!

Delivery was on time but still look an hour and a half. Food was quite literally the worst Chinese I’ve ever had! Only things that were edible were noodles and chicken balls.

Ordered duck pancakes and prawn toast via Uber eats, delivery arrived, no duck ! Called and was met with a hostile response and told to shut up ! Duck arrived 20.mins later, noticed that its cost me £36 as they charged for a half duck !! Complete rip off, can't seem to get anyone to discuss a refund, wasn't that tasty either...Will definitely not use again, £36 for a meal for one, I don't think so...extremely rude staff

Delivery took a long time and, although we knew there was a fairly long wait, when it actually arrived it was luke warm so the ( miserable ) driver had obviously delivered to quite a few other addresses before reaching us. I don't mind putting food in the microwave but not chips which were disappointing. The Malaysian dish was nice / tasty but overall it was just 'OK'.

Lovely food but as I had ordered for myself and a 7 year old, the 60 minute delay getting delivered just before 9pm was just too late. 8pm was more than late enough already.

Prawns over cooked, stuffed mushrooms really greasy, chicken in sweet and sour chicken balls dry. Ended up having a bowl of cereal instead, waste of money!!

Absolutely awful curry, it was like brown water with no taste, just eat supposed to give refund but as to yet have had nothing from them, seems like you’re not allowed to complain

Food was cold, bbq ribs cat like cat meat dipped in gravy, char sui came spicy but it’s a Cantonese dish meant to be Cantonese bbq, full of sesame seeds which weren’t on menu so can’t eat!

Oops, food not like it usually is?

Ordered a takeaway from their website and chose a time slot. The ordered arrived 15 minutes late with one completely wrong and cold dish and other items cold. When I called I was met with we only have one driver and he has a lot to deliver, had no idea I’d the time slot and took no responsibility for the ordering method! No conciliatory effort whatsoever. The owner offered to send a new order at home 10pm at night! Then had to wait over 20 minutes for it to be collected! Now awaiting the refund which seems to present a challenge in itself! This used to be an excellent takeaway, sadly no more!

Ordered food from here tonight, ordered the chicken balls with sweet and sour sauce, however the chicken did not taste like chicken at all neither did it look like chicken. The rest of the food was cold on arrival. Contacted the store to complain, however the woman on the phone was extremely rude and wanted to waste their time and their delivery drivers times by sending them out to return the food before even considering a refund. As a fast food employee, I am appalled by the service I received from the employee who took no responsibility for the unsatisfactory order. They have now lost a previously loyal customer.

Ordered a takeaway today, not good definitely last nights left overs just recooked and heated, ribs was tuff as old boots, chips not good and rice inedible. I wouldn't fed that rubbish to my dog

Quality of the food wasn’t so great compared to similar takeouts I’ve had locally. Like the egg fried rice was not as good as some I’ve had recently. The chicken satay as well wasn’t great to look at when it arrived and wasn’t as flavoursome as we’d hoped. Maybe it was the meals we ordered but probably won’t be ordering those meals again. The delivery itself was good and ahead of schedule and they also included free prawn crackers as an accompaniment.

Absolutely AWFUL 0/10 PLEASE DONT GO I don’t know where to start. The food was shocking. No flavour at all in 9/10 dishes the quality of the poor was so bad. 2 out the 3 of us have felt very close to being sick since leaving. There was a table next to also saying how bad food was. The service was as bad as the food, the older men where rude to us when they asked us if the food was ok I politely said none of it has any flavour could we order something else to which we was told no. The shorter old man was extremely rude and defensive. What a waste of our hard earn money we treated our mum to meal out and it’s made her sick and nearly cost us £100 for 3 people. We all had the “all you can eat” option at £25 per person and we’ve literally just thrown our money down the drain.

£18 for 2 currys!!? Beef chow mein had 3 pieces of beef, what a rip off. Pork was rock hard, very disappointing overall. 😞

Hadn't booked a table but was accomodated on a Monday at about 5 30 . Shown to a table that had food over the salt and pepper pots, the chopstick rest also had food from previous customers. There was 3 of us but 1 wasn't really that hungry but when we tryed to order the set menu for the 2 of us we were told that the 3rd person is not allowed to eat our food !!!!!!!. So he ordered spare ribs. We had yuk sung as 1 starter but its was just rice onions in a lettuce leaf, no pork at all !!!! They brought out a plastic bowl spoon and plate to eat main course of , it's 2023 you shouldn't be given any plastic in a restaurant!!!!!! Food came out looked good but nothing had any flavour in it at all even the chicken curry !!!! Very poor quality, won't be returning plus food was only lukewarm

Extremely poor, the food came cold. Not only did it lacked taste and flavour but the texture was horrific. Then the delivery driver finessed 30p off me like it was gold. They must be down bad 😂

Visited last night with 5 other people. We were well looked after from the time we arrived until we left. Starters were amazing and plentiful. Main courses were superb. We all left very satisfied and have rebooked for next month. All you can eat buffet at a great price. Thankyou

Excellent service as always and great food

Food tasted lovely, mains were a good amount. However the portions for the starters was tiny. Three pieces of tiny pawn toast, three tiny ribs ect for the three of us. Then when we asked for more pawn toast they again brought us three tiny pieces which we waited for around 20 minutes for, which I actually found quite insulting. The service was so slow and I can appreciate that it was a busy night however they seemed to forget about the tables they put around the corner and left to our own devices. However they could make an effort when what seemed to be a table of regulars came in, they then kept coming every few minutes to check on them but nobody else. What I also noticed is that they had considerably larger portion sizes. Its a shame because the food they serve is lovely it’s it’s the service that let it down.

50 minute wait for collection. Another customer on the phone complaining meant our food was ready but delayed getting to us so some dishes were cold. Not sure if it was the restaurant or the app Just Eat at fault because the app told me it was ready for collection at the correct time but I then got a notification half an hour after I’d eaten my food that I should come and collect. We did get a bottle of wine as a sorry but it was only after my husband pointed out the unacceptable wait to collect (not deliver!) Shambolic!

If you want an evening chasing your food and it turning up an hour late… this is the restaurant for you. I ordered at 6:22, after a couple of calls to the restaurant, one of which was just cut off before I spoke to anyone I eventually got through and got my food at just after 9. Was told the kitchen was ‘in chaos’… Food was ok, sauce cold.

Four of us visited the Ruby and chose the menu for 4 people. The food was very good as well as the service . We were not rushed and the starters and main meals were served at a steady time and you could tell it was freshly cooked.

Went to Ruby for Chinese New Year and had an absolute blast. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was amazing and all the staff were great. There was not one thing we did not enjoy, and we can't wait to return.
