Ruby Cantonese Chinese Take Away in Lichfield

Well drove from Derby tonight for a meal for Chinese new year only to find the restaurant closed. No call or email to cancel the booking. Not at all pleased 😕

Came in on a Monday night for the all you can eat, the service was quick, the food was excellent and Joe was lovely and very helpful. We will definitely be back. Thank you

We're do I start ....me and my sister and niece went there without a booking...no problem...was 6/01/25 at around 19.30 ....was all you could eat ....the food was amazing amazing and the service was amazing amazing aswell..we really enjoyed it also they let us rest between each service....fantastic xxxxxx

Recently changed hands and the food is still amazing. They were very busy and there was a little confusion in timings of our booking but overall, great time!

Never had a problem with the food, always seem good. I have been a fair amount of times over the years, and the service is always poor. Staff hardly understand your request. Always get the bill wrong, Most of the staff are young chinese girls, and they9 try and charge you for everything you have even when you're having all you can eat menu! Praise goes out to the young english man that works there, he's absolutely flat out all night, none stop with a huge smile!

Wouldn't advise eating here, 1 star was the lowest I could go. Went for a meal on Sunday and they served us prawn crackers which had been on someone else’s table. The crackers were going stale and had bits of other peoples food and sauces on them. Disgusting place! The manager could barely speak when confronted about this as I showed him bits of onion and drips of sauces on our crackers. Food is over priced and of very low quality. Waste of money and not worth the risk. Wish I’d taken pictures.

My delivery took so long to arrive and when it did it was all cold. Didn’t enjoy my food at all. Shame as I always order from the ruby. Disappointed. When I called to chase my food I was told sorry we have no driver

Late delivery and rice was luke warm - had to microwave to heat up.

Pre ordered a hour and 15 before first delivery time with an estimate delivery of 6.15, at 6.15 we received notification the driver was on the way but the order never arrived until 6.45 for a 5-10 mins max drive from take away to delivery address, when food turned up it was all stone cold so have had to heat it all up to be able to eat it.

What a lovely experience! I booked a table for 10 people on a Monday night for a family birthday celebration. We opted for the all you can eat menu in order to be able to try a few different dishes. The staff were amazing, so helpful, friendly and efficient. The owner was very attentive, checking everything was ok and laughing and joking with us. The food was delicious and plenty of it. We didn't order more as we couldn't even manage the initial food served, for this we were offered boxes to be able to take what was left home, so I now have tonight's meal sorted.....the gift that keeps giving! I would highly recommend The Ruby restaurant and we will definitely be back soon :-)

We visited this evening as a family of 10 for an all you can eat type meal. We could choose 6 starters, 5 mains and 2 sides between us all. There were so many options to choose from. The food was plentiful, delicious and piping hot. The staff were fantastic, friendly and the busy atmosphere was brilliant which surprised us for a Monday night. It was £22.50 each which was such a good deal considering how much amazing food we received. We will be back very soon.

Poped in after a show around the corner, and it was amazing. The wife use to go years back, and as good as ever.

Turned up late on a Friday night after a show at the theatre and they were amazing! Looked after us and the food was amazing, polite staff and a fun atmosphere loved it!! Will be back

1 hour 35 minutes is a long delivery time initially and then 10 minutes late

2 hrs and still no food appalling

Delivery took 2 hours, called and was told there’s nothing they can do as food has already left and they cannot track the driver. When the food arrived it was cold. Very poor service

The delivery driver had an issue I wasn't informed of , food came cold, staff were rude, very late, driver when he finally called after being so late he went to the wrong place even though I shared my location then got grumpy he had to go elsewhere to my actual location

We had a family celebration tonight buffet style the food was fantastic The service was great thankyou we will all be back

Ordered takeaway today - Sunday 1st September. My order was missing items and another item was completely incorrect. The food also arrived 40 minutes late and cold. One of the worst takeaways I have ever ordered.

When you say open till 1030 for take away … try actually doing it …. Once again, from years ago … a disappointment

Love it here. The staff are always very friendly, the service is fabulous with the food is always spot on. The menu is varied with choice for vegetarians. We will definitely be back, and if you've never been, book up. You won't be disappointed.

Very very disappointed. Was told 15 minutes so arrived after 15 minutes and it was 35 minutes. I was told the order wasn’t ready and when i finally got it the food was cold and very poor quality. Wont be using this place again

Chicken fried rice - perfect, metal container can tell it was cooked fresh. The chicken chow mein was very WET and clearly batch cooked and microwaved in a plastic container, with the chicken and veg thrown on top to save time - no wonder it came an hour earlier than stated. Curry sauce at £3.10 per portion was half full in the small container. Very disappointing for a £25 meal with only the chips and chicken fried rice of a good standard.

Rice was like mush ,ribs mainly bone not worth the money

First time in the Ruby for some 20 Years. Whilst we have had many great meals there, times have changed and if an authentic Chinese experience is what you are looking for, you need to look elsewhere. Service was polite but very slow and the food mediocre. Food when it eventually came, was delivered without introduction with staff members not knowing which dish was which when asked. The restaurant itself looks tired and you stick to the floor in the toilets. There are better options in Lichfield.

Cutlery had food on had to asks for napkins and had to ask for cutlery once all our starters had came out. BBQ ribs had no meat on and food was cold. Had to go bar for drinks and the service was slow and staff was moody. Won’t be going back. We paid £30 for our starters and cancelled all our mains. Tried to charge us for drinks we didn’t even drink. Manager was rude and staff wasn’t pleasant and didn’t empathise at all and didn’t seem bothered at all. Had the ‘all you can eat’ menu tonight with husband and a close friend. Fabulous food and polite and efficient service. Not been to The Ruby for years but we will be back very soon. Well done 👍

Was visiting my Grandma in Lichfield and we came here on Sunday for lunch. Really good food and even better staff; very friendly and helpful. My Grandma visits regularly with the girls, so she’ll be back very soon. Thank you for looking after her!

Disgusting, I had a takeaway and the food was revolting, I ordered shredded chilli crispy chicken and it was fatty, greasy, and nasty........ I phoned to complain and was told they won't do anything about it. Please just think twice ordering for here.

I was looking forward to soft fresh cooked Ribs, what i got was hard outer meat on my Ribs indicating that they were from the previous or maybe more days..At the price of them I definately deserved FRESH. You are a classy establishment and its a shame your standards weren't carried forward to your takeaway trade

Was really looking forward to eating here for a birthday celebration. The starters came, they were OK, but not hot. Waited 1½ hours after entering before the mains came. The rice was mushy, the noodles sparce, two of the mains were hot, the others just warm. Can't bear cold food served on cold plates, so sadly it wasn't a winner for me, although it did taste OK. The room was cold as well. The staff seemed very busy.

Delicious succulent Chinese meal for the wife and I as an after work treat. Was stuffed after the 4 starters and soup. But also Shared 3 delicious mains and rice. Much better than other places as the food is cooked fresh to order not the lukewarm gloop you get at all you can eats. Would highly recommend, service was exceptional. I prefer a prompt service and piping hot food which is what we gor. All round really good. Very full afterwards tho!

Yet again order is wrong we asked for beef curry got chicken food so greasy and un edible. £40 down the drain . A treat for my husbands 60th never again disgusting 🫣

The chips were cold and over cooked as if they had been reheated from an earlier session. The curry sauce was gravy with no curry taste at all.

Food was ready quicker than estimated which was great. It was cold when we got it home, despite living a 3 minute drive away. Had to reheat it when we got back.

Had the Buffett option. You choose 6 starters and 5 mains. Once you’ve finished one course you can order more, but this disrupt the flow of the meal. Attentive staff but felt rushed. Not a very calm eating experience. For 7 people it came to £235 including 1 beer each. Not sure it was value for money. Expected better 🫤. Lots of choice in Lichfield so will go elsewhere next time.

I ordered at 6.30pm it arrived at 8.45pm. I did call a few times and when it arrived 3 of the dishes were stone cold. I called back & I was offered more food to be delivered out to me but we’d waited so long and I asked for a refund on the cold dishes. I was told to register my complaint with Just Eat. So disappointed & I do feel like it would have been better if I ordered direct. I have ordered from this restaurant before & only had to wait 45-60 mins. I definitely won’t be ordering again via r

Fried dumplings, sweet and sour king prawns and fried rice. All great. Delivery was early by 30 mins which was very welcome.

Ordered at 18:50 … delivered at 19:50 …. Food was barely warm nowhere near hot … why such a delay on a Monday evening? The delivery man couldn’t get away fast enough; he probably knew the food was cold. My wife and I are late 70s and I’m in a wheelchair so could do little about it. Very disappointing.

Tasty takeaway - really fair price if you go in and collect. Fast preparation too - the food was ready for collection when I arrived within 20 mins.

We visited this restuarant with friends on a busy Saturday evening. We chose the all you can eat menu and had a selection of dishes to share. which was very reasonably priced for the food we received. The dishes were plentiful, fresh and tasty. We were a party of six and were in the front area of the restuarant and the table was probably designed for a party of four not six this was our ionly gripe. The seats in the main area wer circular and this probably would have been better for our party for space and have the luxury of food being placed on a Lazy Susan whisch is always great for larger parties. The drinks were reasonably priced and on par with other restuarants in the area. The waiting staff were very friendly and efficient. We had an enjoyable meal and will definately be back to sample some other food choices

Two of us made a first visit here on Sunday 20th August 2023: from the street frontage, the premises outwardly appear tiny, but do not be fooled - upon entry, you are warmly greeted and accompanied into a rather long, narrow, yet spacious and attractive dining gallery of low ceilings, muted lighting conveying an intimate atmosphere, and to a given choice of table. Insofar as Sunday dining options are concerned, first-time visitors like ourselves were initially confused by two 'Set Menu' choices running concurrently - a 'Sunday Banquet' or, for a further £4.00, an 'All you can eat' option. The subtle variance between these is: SUNDAY BANQUET: a myriad of Starter/Main/Dessert options allowing the chance to sample ten different dishes across this range, only one of which is a Dessert. ALL YOU CAN EAT: a perfect choice if you haven't eaten in two weeks and want to explore every possible taste available, have an addiction to a particular choice of dishes, or simply want to 'Pig out' - you have a two-hour limit to do so. We took the 'SUNDAY BANQUET' option - and were not disappointed in the least. Initial Side Dish of Prawn Crackers and dip aside (we tactfully avoided eating this until we could actually see the portion size of following offerings), subtly-sized portions appeared thereafter that gave us a very enjoyable and varied tour through the Chinese and Cantonese 'World of Food,' Our choice allowed us to thoroughly enjoy a new culinary experience in the company of a very personable, friendly and amusing Head Waiter/Manager - but left us sufficiently satisfied, and didn't overindulge either of us to a level of discomfort afterwards. We will certainly return again, possibly on a weeknight when things are quieter - but full marks for a great evening guys!

Absolutely loads of chicken. On the high spice side, chow mein and chicken udon, but I love spice so that was good. Hot in temperature too and can’t fault the order!

Delivery was on time but still look an hour and a half. Food was quite literally the worst Chinese I’ve ever had! Only things that were edible were noodles and chicken balls.

Ordered duck pancakes and prawn toast via Uber eats, delivery arrived, no duck ! Called and was met with a hostile response and told to shut up ! Duck arrived 20.mins later, noticed that its cost me £36 as they charged for a half duck !! Complete rip off, can't seem to get anyone to discuss a refund, wasn't that tasty either...Will definitely not use again, £36 for a meal for one, I don't think so...extremely rude staff

Delivery took a long time and, although we knew there was a fairly long wait, when it actually arrived it was luke warm so the ( miserable ) driver had obviously delivered to quite a few other addresses before reaching us. I don't mind putting food in the microwave but not chips which were disappointing. The Malaysian dish was nice / tasty but overall it was just 'OK'.

Lovely food but as I had ordered for myself and a 7 year old, the 60 minute delay getting delivered just before 9pm was just too late. 8pm was more than late enough already.

Prawns over cooked, stuffed mushrooms really greasy, chicken in sweet and sour chicken balls dry. Ended up having a bowl of cereal instead, waste of money!!

Absolutely awful curry, it was like brown water with no taste, just eat supposed to give refund but as to yet have had nothing from them, seems like you’re not allowed to complain

Food was cold, bbq ribs cat like cat meat dipped in gravy, char sui came spicy but it’s a Cantonese dish meant to be Cantonese bbq, full of sesame seeds which weren’t on menu so can’t eat!

Had a chicken curry it was awful the meat was definitely not chicken it was vile but some cats have been going missing….this place needs reporting too evirometal health the food is awful
